NHL 2019-20 - Day 2

Today, we've got twice as much action as yesterday with eight games on. Leading off...

The Carolina Hurricanes host the Montreal Canadiens. Carey Price and Petr Mrazek draw the starts in goal. Carolina opened in the first period with a Lucas Wallmark goal, via Brett Pesce. The Hurricanes added on with a Martin Necas power play goal in the second period, powered by Dougie Hamilton and Teuvo Teravainen. Montreal got on the board with an unassisted Tomas Tatar power play goal. The Canadiens tied it on a Jesperi Kotkaniemi goal, passed from Artturi Lehkonen and Jonathan Drouin. Montreal pulled ahead with a Jordan Weal goal, guided in by Paul Byron and Nate Thompson. Carolina retied it in the third period with an Erik Haula goal, fueled by Hamilton and Ryan Dzingel. The tie went to a shootout, where Hamilton's lone tally gave the Hurricanes a 4-3 win. The three stars were Hamilton, Haula, and Price (40 for 43 in saves).

Up in New York, the Rangers welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Henrik Lundqvist patrol the creases. New York led off in the first period with a Marc Staal goal, assisted by Mika Zibanejad and Tony DeAngelo. Winnipeg tied it on a Mark Scheifele goal, with a lone assist by Nikolaj Ehlers. The Rangers took the lead with an Artemi Panarin power play goal in the second period, powered by Zibanejad and Jacob Trouba. The Jets tied it again with a Blake Wheeler goal, helped along by Ehlers and Ville Heinola. New York regained the lead with a Trouba goal, passed from Chris Kreider and Panarin. Winnipeg evened it again on Wheeler's second of the game, via Ehlers, who earned a sock trick, and Dmitry Kulikov. The Jets pulled ahead in the third period with a Kyle Connor power play goal, with assists provided by Josh Morrissey and Patrik Laine. The Rangers evened it on a Zibanejad goal, courtesy of Trouba and Libor Hajek. New York went ahead on a Brett Howden goal, guided in by Jesper Fast and Brady Skjei. The Rangers iced it at 6-4 with a Brendan Smith shorthanded empty net goal, set up by Zibanejad, who earned a sock trick. The three stars were handed to Zibanejad, Wheeler, and Ehlers, while Trouba and Panarin get the honorable mentions.

Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins host the Buffalo Sabres. Carter Hutton and Matt Murray protect the nets. Buffalo began in the first period with a Conor Sheary goal, via Casey Mittelstadt. Pittsburgh tied it on an Evgeni Malkin power play goal, powered by Kris Letang and Sidney Crosby. The Sabres took the lead back on a Sheary power play goal, his second of the game, with assists provided by Mittelstadt and Colin Miller. Buffalo added on with a Rasmus Dahlin goal, fueled by Sam Reinhart and Victor Olofsson. This stood for the 3-1 final score, with Sheary, Hutton (28 for 29 in saves), and Mittelstadt earning the three stars.

Way south to Florida, as the Tampa Bay Lightning bring in the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Andrei Vasilevskiy are the Russian goalies. Tampa Bay started in the first period with a Nikita Kucherov goal, made possible by Mikhail Sergachev and Mathieu Joseph. Florida tied it in the second period with a Mike Hoffman goal, passed from Vincent Trocheck and Brett Connolly. The Lightning retook the lead with a Kevin Shattenkirk goal, courtesy of Sergachev and Alex Killorn. The Panthers tied it again in the third period with a shorthanded Trocheck goal, set up by Aaron Ekblad. Tampa Bay regained the lead with an Ondrej Palat power play goal, powered by Killorn and Sergachev. The Lightning added on with a Pat Maroon goal, fueled by Victor Hedman and Kucherov. Tampa Bay iced it at 5-2 with an Erik Cernak empty net goal, with a lone helper from Anthony Cirelli. The three stars went to Sergachev, Kucherov, and Trocheck, while Killorn earned an honorable mention.

Northwest to Nashville, where the Predators host the Minnesota Wild. Devan Dubnyk and Pekka Rinne are the masked men. Nashville got going in the second period with a Ryan Ellis goal, assisted by Filip Forsberg and Matt Duchene. Minnesota tied it on a Jason Zucker power play goal, powered by Brad Hunt and Mikko Koivu. The Wild took the lead with a Matt Dumba goal, coming off of Marcus Foligno and Ryan Suter. The Predators retied it in the third period on a Mikael Granlund goal, passed from Roman Josi and Duchene. Nashville pulled ahead with an Austin Watson goal, via Ellis and Nick Bonino. The Predators added on with a Viktor Arvidsson goal, with a lone helper from Craig Smith. Nashville iced it at 5-2 with a Forsberg empty net goal, set up by Mattias Ekholm and Duchene, the latter earning a sock trick. The three stars were Ellis, Duchene, and Forsberg.

Southwest to Dallas, with the Stars welcoming the Boston Bruins. Tuukka Rask and Ben Bishop are between the pipes. Boston struck first in the first period with a Brett Ritchie goal, coming off of Charlie Coyle. The Bruins added on with a Danton Heinen power play goal, powered by Matt Grzelcyk and Charlie McAvoy. Dallas got on the board with a Roope Hintz goal, passed from Mattias Janmark and Joe Pavelski in the second period. This only made it 2-1, the eventual final, with the three stars given to Rask (28 for 29 in saves), Heinen, and Ritchie.

Up to Colorado, as the Avalanche host the Calgary Flames. David Rittich and Philipp Grubauer draw the starts in goal. Colorado was first to score in the first period with a Joonas Donskoi power play goal, powered by Samuel Girard and Andre Burakovsky. Calgary tied it on a Sean Monahan power play goal, with assists provided by Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm. The Avalanche regained the lead on a Mikko Rantanen goal, helped along by Gabriel Landeskog. The Flames tied it again in the second period with a Gaudreau goal, via Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk. Colorado pulled ahead on a J.T. Compher goal, with helpers from Matt Calvert and Nikita Zadorov. The Avalanche added on with a Rantanen power play goal, his second of the game, fueled by Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. Calgary got one back with a Mark Giordano goal, passed from Sam Bennett and Derek Ryan. Colorado capped it at 5-3 with a Donskoi empty net goal, his second of the game, set up by Matt Nieto and Ryan Graves. The three stars belonged to Rantanen, Gaudreau, and Monahan, while Donskoi gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the Anaheim Ducks bring in the Arizona Coyotes. John Gibson and Darcy Kuemper are in the blue paint. Anaheim kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Derek Grant goal, via Devin Shore and Hampus Lindholm. Arizona tied it in the second period on a Derek Stepan goal, guided in by Phil Kessel and Clayton Keller. The Ducks took the lead back with a Cam Fowler goal, fueled by Carter Rowney and Max Jones. The final stood from here at 2-1, with the three stars being Gibson (32 for 33 in saves), Fowler, and Grant.

NHL 2019-20 - Day 1

It's the beginning of a new hockey league. With that comes the news that I am now a contributor with Rotowire, a fantasy sports site. I have worked in baseball but I'm beginning my first full season with the hockey department. As such, I may have to prioritize my contributions with Rotowire versus what I post here. With that in mind, that is a concern for another day. Here's your scoring recaps from Opening Night.

First up, the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Ottawa Senators. Craig Anderson and Frederik Andersen are the similarly-named goalies. Ottawa began in the first period with a Brady Tkachuk goal, via Connor Brown and Colin White. Toronto tied it on a Frederik Gauthier goal in the second period, coming off of Tyson Barrie and Dmytro Timashov. The Maple Leafs took the lead on a Trevor Moore goal, passed from Ilya Mikheyev and Rasmus Sandin. The Senators retied it with a Scott Sabourin goal, assisted by Filip Chlapik and Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Toronto regained the lead with an Auston Matthews goal, guided in by William Nylander and Morgan Rielly. The Maple Leafs added on with a Matthews power play goal, powered by Mitchell Marner and John Tavares. Toronto extended the lead in the third period as Mikheyev scored, thanks to Barrie. Ottawa got one back with a Bobby Ryan goal, helped along by Chris Tierney and Mark Borowiecki. This only made it 5-3, the final, with the three stars being Matthews, Barrie, and Mikheyev.

Southwest to St. Louis, as the Blues welcome the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Jordan Binnington guard the cages. St. Louis led off in the first period with a Sammy Blais goal, passed from David Perron and Ryan O'Reilly. The Blues added on with an Alex Pietrangelo power play goal, powered by Justin Faulk and O'Reilly. Washington got on the board with an Alex Ovechkin goal, assisted by John Carlson and Lars Eller. The Capitals tied it in the second period with a Dmitry Orlov power play goal, with helpers from Nick Jensen and Eller. Washington won 3-2 in overtime on a Jakub Vrana goal, courtesy of Carlson and T.J. Oshie. The three stars belonged to Carlson, Eller, and O'Reilly.

Northwest again to Edmonton, where the Oilers bring in the Vancouver Canucks. Jacob Markstrom and Mike Smith are the goalies. Edmonton started in the first period with a Leon Draisaitl goal, assisted by Zack Kassian and Matt Benning. Vancouver tied it in the second period with an Alexander Edler goal, courtesy of Brock Boeser and J.T. Miller. The Canucks took the lead in the third period with a Tanner Pearson goal, fueled by Tyler Myers and Quinn Hughes. The Oilers retied it on a Kassian goal, made possible by Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse. Edmonton pulled ahead with a Connor McDavid goal, via Draisaitl and Benning. This stood for a 3-2 win, with Draisaitl, Kassian, and Benning earning the three stars.

Down in Nevada, the Vegas Golden Knights host the San Jose Sharks. Martin Jones and Marc-Andre Fleury are the masked men. Vegas opened with an unassisted Mark Stone power play goal. The Golden Knights added on with a Reilly Smith goal, made possible by William Karlsson. San Jose got on the board with a Marcus Sorensen goal, helped along by Logan Couture and Brent Burns. Vegas replied in the second period with a Cody Glass courtesy of Max Pacioretty and Stone. The Golden Knights extended the lead in the third period on another Smith goal, his second of the game, set up by Karlsson while shorthanded. The final held at 4-1, with the three stars handed to Smith, Karlsson, and Stone.

MLS 2019 - Week 30

A full slate of games goes on Sunday, beginning with...

The Chicago Fire hosting Toronto FC. Quentin Westberg and Kenneth Kronholm man the nets. Toronto got going in the 59th minute with a Jozy Altidore goal, set up by Marco Delgado. Chicago tied it in the 68th minute with an Aleksander Katai goal, passed from Przemyslaw Frankowski. Delgado of the Reds took a yellow card for dissent in the 69th minute. Alex Bono had to replace Westberg in the 75th minute. The Fire took the lead with a Fabian Herbers goal in the 77th minute, courtesy of Nicolas Gaitan. Toronto retied it with an Omar Gonzalez goal in the 80th minute, made possible by Alejandro Pozuelo. Gaitan of Chicago received a yellow card for a foul in the 85th minute. The final was 2-2, with the man of the match being Gonzalez.

Along to Ohio, where FC Cincinnati welcomes Orlando City SC. Brian Rowe and Przemyslaw Tyton are in goal. Cincinnati began in the 40th minute with an Allan Cruz goal, passed from Emmanuel Ledesma and Joseph-Claude Gyau. Jhegson Mendez of Orlando City saw a yellow card for persistent infringement in the 45th minute. The Orange and Blue's Cruz took a yellow card for a dive in first half stoppage time. The Lions picked up yellow cards for fouls by Robin Jansson and Kyle Smith in the 61st and 89th minutes, respectively. Orlando City tied it on a Benji Michel goal in second half stoppage time. This produced the 1-1 final score, with Rowe earning man of the match honors for going six for seven in saves.

Staying in the state, the Columbus Crew SC bring in the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Eloy Room protect the nets. Jamiro Monteiro of Philadelphia had a yellow card for his 13th minute foul. Columbus saw a yellow card for a 55th minute Wil Trapp foul. The Crew dented the scoreboard in the 69th minute on a Youness Mokhtar goal, via Pedro Santos and Luis Diaz. Columbus added on with a 73rd minute Santos goal. Mokhtar of the Crew took a yellow card for time wasting in the 80th minute. Kacper Przybylko of the Union picked up a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final remained at 2-0, with Santos named man of the match.

In Canada, the Montreal Impact host Atlanta United FC. Brad Guzan and Clement Diop are set to start in goal. Atlanta cracked the scoresheet in the 53rd minute with a Julian Gressel goal, via Emerson Hyndman. Montreal tied it on a Bojan goal, coming off of Orji Okwonkwo in the 81st minute. The final stood at 1-1, with Bojan picked as man of the match.

Back stateside, the New England Revolution welcome New York City FC. Sean Johnson and Matt Turner are the gloved men. Brandon Bye of New England took a yellow card for a 61st minute foul. The Revolution drew first blood in the 66th minute with a Teal Bunbury goal, passed from Cristian Penilla and Gustavo Bou. Alexander Callens of New York City had a yellow card for an 82nd minute foul. New England added on in the 89th minute with a Bou goal, set up by Wilfried Zahibo. This sealed their win at 2-0, with Bou as man of the match.

Wrapping up the east, the New York Red Bulls bring in DC United. Bill Hamid and Luis Robles tend the twines. Cristian Casseres, Jr. of New York took a yellow card for a 33rd minute foul. DC saw a yellow card for a Wayne Rooney foul in the 77th minute. The final remained as it started, 0-0, with Hamid's two-save clean sheet enough for the man of the match title.

Out west, the Colorado Rapids host FC Dallas. Jesse Gonzalez and Tim Howard are between the sticks. Colorado led off in the 10th minute with a Jack Price goal, set up by Andre Shinyashiki. The Rapids added on in first half stoppage time with a Diego Rubio goal. Colorado extended the lead as Kei Kamara scored in the 72nd minute, thanks to Nicolas Mezquida. The final was 3-0, with Kamara taking man of the match honors.

Further to the west, the Los Angeles Galaxy welcome the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Maxime Crepeau and Matt Lampson are in the six-yard boxes. Vancouver opened in the 20th minute with a Doneil Henry goal, via Hwang In-Beom. Los Angeles retied it with a 23rd minute Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal, passed from Cristian Pavon. Sebastian Lletget of the Galaxy took a yellow card for a 34th minute foul. The Whitecaps retook the lead on a Theo Bair goal in the 41st minute. Los Angeles evened it again in the 58th minute on an Uriel Antuna goal, set up by Jonathan dos Santos. Vancouver pulled ahead with a 64th minute Tosaint Ricketts goal, fueled by Erik Godoy and Hwang. The Galaxy retied it on an 86th minute Chris Pontius goal, courtesy of Ibrahimovic and Diego Polenta. The Whitecaps took the lead in stoppage time with a Michaell Chirinos goal, coming off of Hwang and Fredy Montero. This held for a 4-3 win, with Hwang selected as man of the match.

Back northeast, Minnesota United FC brings in Los Angeles FC. Pablo Sisniega and Vito Mannone guard the woodwork. Mason Toye of Minnesota had a yellow card for a 43rd minute foul. Los Angeles kicked off the scoring in the 70th minute with a Carlos Vela goal, courtesy of Diego Rossi. The Loons tied it on a Michael Boxall goal in the 75th minute, helped along by Jan Gregus. The final remained 1-1, with Boxall being the man of the match.

West again to Utah, as Real Salt Lake hosts the Houston Dynamo. Tyler Deric and Nick Rimando draw the starts in goal. Salt Lake started in the 1st minute with a Corey Baird goal. Jefferson Savarino of Real took a yellow card for a 29th minute foul. Houston tied it in the 32nd minute on a Tomas Martinez goal. Salt Lake regained the lead with a Savarino goal in the 75th minute, made possible by Sebastian Saucedo. Tommy McNamara of the Dynamo had a yellow card for 87th minute foul. The final stuck at 2-1, with Savarino earning the man of the match title.

Returning to California, the San Jose Earthquakes welcome the Seattle Sounders FC. Stefan Frei and Daniel Vega are the keepers. San Jose went down to ten men in the 56th minute when Tommy Thompson received a straight red card for violent conduct. Seattle would drop to ten men as well with yellow cards for fouls by Xavier Arreaga in the 60th and 71st minutes. Nouhou of the Sounders received a yellow card for time wasting in the 87th minute. Seattle struck late with a Jordan Morris goal in stoppage time, enough to take the win. Frei was awarded the man of the match honors for his ten-save clean sheet.

Finally, Sporting Kansas City brings in the Portland Timbers. Steve Clark and Tim Melia are the veterans in goal. Portland was first to score in the 29th minute with a Sebastian Blanco goal. Kansas City tied it on a 30th minute Krisztian Nemeth goal, via Johnny Russell and Roger Espinoza. In the 35th thru 38th minutes, Felipe Gutierrez of Sporting and the Timbers' Brian Fernandez received yellow cards for fouls, and Portland's Fernandez and Kansas City's Roger Espinoza each received straight red cards for violent conduct. Sporting took the lead in the 46th minute with a Daniel Salloi goal. The Timbers saw yellow cards for fouls by Renzo Zambrano in the 60th minute, Blanco in the 65th minute, and Zarek Valentin in the 72nd minute. Kansas City picked up yellow cards for Botond Barath's 75th minute foul and Melia's time wasting in the 81st minute. Sporting went down to nine men in the 84th minute when Ilie Sanchez denied a goal scoring opportunity. Portland tied it with a Dairon Asprilla penalty kick goal in the 85th minute, producing the 2-2 final score. Blanco was the man of the match.

NWSL 2019 - Week 23

A full slate of weekend action goes with...

The Washington Spirit hosting the North Carolina Courage. Stephanie Labbe faces her former team and Aubrey Bledsoe in goal. North Carolina began in first half stoppage time with a Lynn Williams goal, via Jessica McDonald and Crystal Dunn. Washington saw yellow cards for fouls by Tori Huster in the 56th minute and Cheyna Matthews in the 59th minute. The Spirit tied it in the 75th minute with a Mallory Pugh goal, assisted by Bayley Feist. Washington took the lead in the 84th minute with a Rose Lavelle goal, coming off of Arielle Ship. The Courage's Abby Erceg received a yellow card for a foul in the 86th minute. The final stayed at 2-1, with the woman of the match being Bledsoe, who went seven for eight in saves.

Also on Saturday, the Chicago Red Stars welcome the Utah Royals FC. Nicole Barnhart and Alyssa Naeher are the veterans in goal. Chicago led off in the 40th minute with a Vanessa DiBernardo goal in the 40th minute after a failed clearance by Utah. The Royals tied it in the 42nd minute with a Christen Press goal, set up by Gunny Jonsdottir. The Red Stars' Casey Short took a yellow card for a foul in the 67th minute. Chicago pulled ahead with a Yuki Nagasato goal on a rebound in the 85th minute. The final was 2-1, with Nagasato named woman of the match.

Sunday starts early with Sky Blue FC bringing in the Orlando Pride. Ashlyn Harris and Kailen Sheridan protect the nets. Orlando started in the 18th minute with a Shelina Zadorsky goal. In the 42nd minute, the Pride's Kristen Edmonds took a yellow card for a foul. Sky Blue's Paige Monaghan received a yellow card for a 56th minute foul. Sky Blue tied it in the 88th minute with a Carli Lloyd goal, set up by Sarah Killion. The final was 1-1, with the woman of the match being Lloyd for her late equalizer. 

Finally, Reign FC hosts the Portland Thorns FC. Adrianna Franch and Casey Murphy patrol the penalty areas. Reign opened in the 27th minute with a Jodie Taylor goal, set up by Theresa Nielsen. Caitlin Foord of Portland took a yellow card for a 34th minute foul. Reign's Nielsen had a yellow card in the 36th minute for her foul. New York City FC hosts Atlanta United FC. Brad Guzan and Sean Johnson man the nets. New York City led off in the 14th minute with an Alexandru Mitrita goal, assisted by Ismael Tajouri-Shradi. The Pigeons added on with another Mitrita goal in the 23rd minute, set up by Maximiliano Moralez. Florentin Pogba of Atlanta had a yellow card for a 27th minute foul. New York City's Alexander Ring saw a yellow card for his 33rd minute foul. The Pigeons extended the lead as Mitrita completed his hat trick in the 34th minute. Tony Rocha of New York City took a yellow card for a 36th minute foul. The Five Stripes' Leandro Gonzalez Pirez picked up a yellow card for a foul in first half stoppage time. Maxime Chanot of the Pigeons received a yellow card for a 52nd minute foul. Atlanta got on the board with a Gonzalo Martinez penalty kick goal in the 53rd minute. Eric Remedi of the Five Stripes was issued a yellow card for a 56th minute foul. In the 71st minute, Valentin Castellanos of New York City earned a yellow card for a foul. The Pigeons replied with a Heber goal in the 87th minute. Mohammed Adams of Atlanta saw a yellow card for an 89th minute foul. A minute later, the Loons went down to ten men as Gasper received a second yellow card for a foul. Kansas City's Krisztian Nemeth had a yellow card for dissent a couple minutes later. The final stayed at 2-1, with Gregus as the man of the match.

The Galaxy added on with Ibrahimovic's 80th minute goal, via Pavon. Salt Lake's Albert Rusnak had a yellow card for a foul in the 82nd minute. Real got on the board with an 89th minute Nedum Onuoha goal, courtesy of Sebastian Saucedo. This only made it 2-1, the final, with the man of the match being Ibrahimovic.

The Black and Gold added on with an Atuesta goal in the 82nd minute. The final remained at 3-1, with Rossi as the man of the match.

Up in Portland, the Timbers welcome the New England Revolution. Brad Knighton and Steve Clark draw the starts in goal. Portland dented the scoreboard in the 49th minute with a Jeremy Ebobisse goal, assisted by Jorge Villafana. New England saw yellow cards for fouls by Michael Mancienne in the 67th minute and Diego Fagundez in the 68th minute. The Revolution got on the board in the 87th minute with a Gustavo Bou goal, passed from Teal Bunbury and Cristian Penilla. Larrys Mabiala of Portland had a yellow card for an 88th minute foul. New England tied it in stoppage time on a Carles Gil penalty kick goal. The final was a 2-2 draw, with Ebobisse named man of the match.

Finally, the San Jose Earthquakes bring in the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Daniel Vega patrol the penalty areas. Kai Wagner of Philadelphia had a yellow card for a 7th minute foul. San Jose saw a yellow card for a Judson foul in the 23rd minute. The Earthquakes started in the 35th minute on a Jackson Yueill goal, set up by Danny Hoesen and Magnus Eriksson. The Union's Haris Medunjanin received a yellow card for dissent in first half stoppage time. Philadelphia's Kacper Przybylko picked up a yellow card for his 57th minute foul. The Union tied it in the 70th minute with an Alejandro Bedoya goal, fueled by Raymon Gaddis. Philadelphia took the lead with a Przybylko goal in the 76th minute, made possible by Jamiro Monteiro. The final held at 2-1, with Przybylko as man of the match.

NWSL Midweek - September 25, 2019

Two games on this Wednesday for the last midweek action of the season. First up...

The Houston Dash welcome the Washington Spirit. Aubrey Bledsoe and Jane Campbell protect the nets. Washington saw a yellow card for a 12th minute foul by Sam Staab. Houston's Allysha Chapman took a yellow card for a 45th minute foul. In the 66th minute, Paige Nielsen of the Spirit had a yellow card for a foul. The final was 0-0, with Dash center back Amber Brooks earning woman of the match honors.

Also, Reign FC brings in the Utah Royals FC. Nicole Barnhart faces a younger foe in Casey Murphy in goal. Reign led off in the 40th minute with a Bethany Balcer goal, assisted by Jodie Taylor and Beverly Yanez. Utah tied it in the 67th minute with a Katie Stengel goal set up by Vero Boquete after chaos in the box. Reign's Kristen McNabb was assessed a yellow card in the 77th minute for a foul. Reign took the lead back with a Taylor goal, courtesy of Darian Jenkins in the 86th minute. The final held at 2-1, with Taylor selected as woman of the match.

MLS 2019 - Week 29

A full weekend of games awaits, beginning with...

Atlanta United FC hosting the San Jose Earthquakes. Daniel Vega and Brad Guzan protect the nets. Atlanta began in the 4th minute with a Justin Meram goal. Emerson Hyndman of the Five Stripes took a yellow card for a 14th minute foul. Cristian Espinoza of San Jose had a yellow card for not retreating in the 16th minute. Atlanta's Meram received a yellow card for a 24th minute foul. The Earthquakes got on the board in the 27th minute with a Guzan own goal. San Jose went down to ten men in the 34th minute when Espinoza took a second yellow card for a foul. The Earthquakes drew yellow cards for Vega's time wasting in the 48th minute and persistent infringement by Judson in the 62nd minute. The Five Stripes pulled ahead in the 90th minute on a Hyndman goal, passed from Darlington Nagbe. In stoppage time, Chris Wondolowski of San Jose took a straight red card for language. Atlanta iced it at 3-1 with a Gonzalo Martinez goal a minute later, set up by Brandon Vazquez and Hector Villalba. The man of the match was Hyndman.

Way northwest to Vancouver, as the Whitecaps FC welcome the Columbus Crew SC. Eloy Room and Zac MacMath are the goalies. Vancouver's MacMath took a yellow card for a 17th minute foul. Columbus led off in the 18th minute with a Gyasi Zardes penalty kick goal. The Whitecaps saw yellow cards for fouls by Tosaint Ricketts in the 35th minute and Ali Adnan in first half stoppage time. Vancouver tied it on a Fredy Montero goal in second half stoppage time, assisted by Adnan. The final was 1-1, with MacMath's seven-for-eight save performance good enough for man of the match.

Back east, FC Cincinnati brings in the Chicago Fire. Kenneth Kronholm and Przemyslaw Tyton get the starts in goal. Cincinnati's Kendall Waston took a yellow card for a 20th minute foul. Chicago saw yellow cards for fouls by C.J. Sapong and Dax McCarty in the 25th and 30th minutes, respectively. The final remained at 0-0, with the man of the match being Kronholm for his three-save clean sheet.

Further east, the New England Revolution host Real Salt Lake. Andrew Putna is mismatched with Matt Turner in goal. New England saw a yellow card for a foul by Antonio Mlinar Delamea in the 46th minute. Salt Lake's keeper Putna took a yellow card for time wasting in the 87th minute. It didn't prevent Putna from taking the man of the match honors in his three-save clean sheet.

Southwest to Houston, as the Dynamo welcome Orlando City SC. Brian Rowe and Joe Willis are between the sticks. Orlando City opened in the 6th minute with a Dom Dwyer goal, via Mauricio Pereyra. Cristian Higuita took a yellow card for the Lions in the 59th minute. Houston tied it in the 70th minute with an Alberth Elis goal, passed from Christian Ramirez and Memo Rodriguez. The Dynamo took the lead with a Ramirez goal in the 73rd minute, assisted by Mauro Manotas. The final held at 2-1, with the man of the match being Ramirez.

Up to Sporting Kansas City bringing in the Colorado Rapids. Clint Irwin and Tim Melia are set to start in goal. Kansas City started in the 3rd minute with a Gerso goal. Matt Besler of Sporting had a yellow card for an 8th minute foul. In the 14th minute, Kansas City added on as Colorado's Tommy Smith committed an own goal. The Rapids' Sam Nicholson took a yellow card for an 18th minute foul. Sporting went down to ten men in the 20th minute when Besler took a second yellow card for a foul. Kansas City's Luis Martins had a yellow card for dissent in the 30th minute. Colorado got on the board with a Kei Kamara goal in the 42nd minute, made possible by Jack Price. Keegan Rosenberrry of the Rapids received a yellow card for his 43rd minute foul. Colorado tied it in the 76th minute with a Diego Rubio goal, guided in by Smith. The Rapids' Rubio had a yellow card for an 83rd minute foul. Colorado took the lead in the 85th minute on a Smith goal, helped along by Price. Lalas Abubakar of the Rapids took a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final was 3-2, with the man of the match being Price.

In California, the Los Angeles Galaxy host the Montreal Impact. Evan Bush and David Bingham are the veteran keepers. Los Angeles saw a yellow card for a Jonathan dos Santos foul in the 29th minute. The Galaxy struck first in the 31st minute with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal, via Uriel Antuna. Montreal tied it in the 48th minute with a Lassi Lappalainen goal, set up by Saphir Taider. Los Angeles retook the lead with an Antuna goal, made possible by Ibrahimovic and Cristian Pavon. The final was 2-1, and Antuna was honored as man of the match.

Saturday ends with Los Angeles FC welcoming Toronto FC. Quentin Westberg and Tyler Miller man the nets. Toronto was first to score in the 19th minute with a Tsubasa Endoh goal, fueled by Jozy Altidore. Los Angeles' Steven Beitashour took a yellow card for a 43rd minute foul. The Reds' Richie Laryea saw a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The Black and Gold tied it with a Carlos Vela penalty kick goal five minutes later. The final was 1-1, with Westberg (four-for-five in saves) getting the nod as man of the match.

On Sunday, the Portland Timbers bring in Minnesota United FC. Vito Mannone and Steve Clark are in goal. Portland's Zarek Valentin had a yellow card for a 78th minute foul. The final remained as it started at 0-0, with Mannone posting a 12-save shutout for man of the match honors.

Southeast to Texas, where FC Dallas hosts New York City FC. Sean Johnson and Jesse Gonzalez are between the pipes. New York City drew first blood in the 1st minute with a Valentin Castellanos goal, via Anton Tinnerholm and Maximiliano Moralez. Keaton Parks of the Pigeons had a yellow card for a 13th minute foul. Dallas saw a yellow card for persistent infringement by Zdenek Ondrasek in first half stoppage time. The Toros' Bryan Acosta took a yellow card for a foul in the 61st minute. Dallas tied it in the 66th minute with an Ondrasek goal. New York City received yellow cards for a Moralez foul in the 68th minute and time wasting by Maxime Chanot in second half stoppage time. The final remained at 1-1, with Ondrasek as the man of the match.

Next up, the New York Red Bulls welcome the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Luis Robles are the keepers. New York dented the scoreboard in the 32nd minute with a Tom Barlow goal. The Red Bulls saw a yellow card for a Marc Rzatkowski foul in the 60th minute. New York added on in stoppage time with a Daniel Royer goal, via Bradley Wright-Phillips and Alejandro Romero Gamarra. The final was 2-0, with the man of the match being Royer.

Finally, DC United brings in the Seattle Sounders FC. Stefan Frei and Bill Hamid are the strong keepers. DC got going in the 14th minute with a Lucas Rodriguez goal. Seattle's Kelvin Leerdam took a yellow card for a 53rd minute foul. The Black and Red added on with a Frederic Brillant goal in the 54th minute, set up by Wayne Rooney. The final stood at 2-0, with the man of the match being Rodriguez.
