2015/16 KHL Season - Day 61

Just four games on today, beginning with...

Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg hosting Spartak Moscow. Atte Engren and Jakub Kovar are the masked men. Moscow got going in the second period on a Casey Wellman goal, assisted by Evgeny Bodrov and Sergei Shmelyov. Yekaterinburg tied it with an Eero Elo power play goal in the third period, powered by Anatoly Golyshev and Dmitry Megalinsky. Avtomobilist took the lead on another Elo power play goal, guided in by Nikolai Timashov and Alexander Torchenyuk. Spartak retied it with a Wellman goal, his second of the game, made possible by Yaroslav Dyblenko and Shmelyov. Moscow won 3-2 in overtime on a Vyacheslav Leshchenko goal, fueled by Charles Genoway and Shmelyov, the latter getting a sock trick. The three stars were awarded to Wellman, Shmelyov, and Elo.

Up to Khanty-Mansiysk, where Yugra welcomes SKA St. Petersburg. Mikko Koskinen and Vladislav Fokin are in the creases. St. Petersburg was first to score in the first period on an Evgeny Dadonov power play goal, powered by Ilya Kovalchuk and Vadim Shipachyov. Khanty-Mansiysk tied it with a Vitaly Sitnikov goal, coming off of Ivan Yatsenko and Artyom Bulyansky. SKA regained the lead on a Jarno Koskiranta goal, helped along by Joakim Lindstrom and Alexander Barabanov. St. Petersburg added on in the second period with a Lindstrom goal, passed from Barabanov and Maxim Chudinov. SKA extended the lead as Dadonov scored his second of the game in the third period, courtesy of Kovalchuk. Yugra pulled back on an Andrei Ivanov goal, assisted by Igor Volkov and Pavel Varfolomeyev. The score held at 4-2, with the three stars going to Dadonov, Lindstrom, and Barabanov, while Kovalchuk gets an honorable mention.

Back to Ufa, where Salavat Yulaev brings in Jokerit Helsinki. Henrik Karlsson and Niklas Svedberg are the goalies with NHL experience. Ufa struck first in the first period on a Dmitry Makarov goal, guided in by Ivan Vishnevsky and Enver Lisin. Salavat Yulaev added on as Alexander Loginov scored a power play goal, powered by Makarov. Ufa extended the lead as Teemu Hartikainen scored a power play goal in the third period, with the help of Lisin and Makarov. Salavat Yulaev capped it at 4-0 with a Nikolai Prokhorkin goal, going in unassisted. The three stars went to Makarov, Svedberg (43 save shutout), and Lisin.

Finally, Metallurg Magnitogorsk hosts Dinamo Riga. Jakub Sedlacek and Vasily Koshechkin draw the starts in goal. Riga drew first blood on an unassisted Steven Seigo goal in the first period. Dinamo added on with a Seigo goal in the second period, his second of the game coming off of Lauris Darzins and Tim Sestito. Ilya Samsonov took over for Koshechkin in goal. Magnitogorsk got on the board with a Viktor Antipin goal, via Danis Zaripov and Jan Kovar on the power play. Riga shot back in the third period on a shorthanded and unassisted Andris Dzerins goal. This made it a 3-1 game, with the three stars handed to Seigo, Sedlacek (36 for 37 in saves), and Dzerins.

2015-16 NHL Season - Day 17

Six games on today, beginning with...

The Buffalo Sabres hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Mike Condon and Chad Johnson are the unknown goalies. Montreal was first to score in the first period on a Dale Weise goal, his second of the season, coming off of P.K. Subban and Tomas Fleischmann. The Canadiens added on in the second period with a Brendan Gallagher goal, his second of the year, made possible by Tomas Plekanec and Subban. Buffalo got on the board with a Matt Moulson goal, his second of the season, via Sam Reinhart and Cody Franson. The Sabres tied it on a Ryan O'Reilly power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Franson. Montreal took the lead back on a Torrey Mitchell goal, his third of the season, passed from Subban, who got a sock trick, and Andrei Markov. The Canadiens extended the lead with a Markov power play goal, helped along by Plekanec. Montreal padded the lead in the third period on a Gallagher power play goal, his third of the year and second of the game, guided in by Max Pacioretty and Markov. The Canadiens kept going on a Pacioretty goal, his sixth of the season, with assists provided by Markov and Plekanec, both of whom earned a sock trick. Montreal capped it at 7-2 with a Weise goal, his second of the game and third of the year, driven through by Markov and David Desharnais. The three stars went to Markov, Gallagher, and Weise, while Subban, Plekanec, and Pacioretty receive the honorable mentions.

Down to Brooklyn, where the New York Islanders welcome the Boston Bruins. Jonas Gustavsson and Jaroslav Halak. Boston struck first in the first period on a Brett Connolly goal, his second of the season, via Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. New York tied it on a Josh Bailey power play goal, his third of the year, powered by John Tavares and Ryan Strome. The Islanders took the lead on a Casey Cizikas goal, assisted by Johnny Boychuk and Matt Martin. The Bruins retied it on a Joonas Kemppainen goal in the second period, coming off of Ryan Spooner. Boston gained the lead with a David Pastrnak goal, his second of the season, via Loui Eriksson. The Bruins added on with a Spooner goal, his second of the year, with a lone assist by Kemppainen. Boston extended the lead with an empty net goal by David Krejci, his fifth of the season, set up by Eriksson and Adam McQuaid. New York got one back on a Thomas Hickey unassisted goal, his second of the year, creating the 5-3 final. The three stars were Spooner, Kemppainen, and Eriksson.

Northwest to Winnipeg, where the Jets bring in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ben Bishop and Ondrej Pavelec are called on to start. Tampa Bay started in the first period on a Braydon Coburn goal, with a lone assist by Tyler Johnson. Winnipeg tied it with a Nikolaj Ehlers goal, his second of the season, via Mark Scheifele and Mathieu Perreault. The Lightning retook the lead on a Cedric Paquette goal, coming off of Erik Condra and Victor Hedman. The Jets retied it on a Drew Stafford goal, his third of the year, assisted by Adam Lowry and Alex Burmistrov. Tampa Bay pulled ahead again with a Vladislav Namestnikov goal, his third of the season, courtesy of Paquette and Hedman. Winnipeg retied it in the third period as Blake Wheeler scored his fourth of the year, a shorthanded and unassisted goal. The Lightning won 4-3 in overtime on an Ondrej Palat goal, fueled by Steven Stamkos and Hedman, the latter getting a sock trick. The three stars belonged to Hedman, Paquette, and Palat.

Over in Alberta, the Calgary Flames host the Detroit Red Wings. Jimmy Howard and Jonas Hiller are between the pipes. Detroit led off in the first period on a Gustav Nyquist goal, his third of the season, coming on the power play from Henrik Zetterberg and Niklas Kronwall. Calgary tied it on a Mark Giordano goal, via Johnny Gaudreau and Jiri Hudler. The Red Wings regained the lead on a Brendan Smith power play goal, powered by Dylan Larkin and Teemu Pulkkinen. The Flames tied it in the third period as Joe Colborne scored, with the help of Giordano and Hudler. Calgary won 3-2 in overtime with a Giordano goal, his second of the game and third of the campaign, helped along by Gaudreau and Sean Monahan. The three stars were handed to Giordano, Hudler, and Gaudreau.

Staying in the province, the Edmonton Oilers welcome the Washington Capitals. Philipp Grubauer and Anders Nilsson are the backups in goal. Washington opened in the first period on an Evgeny Kuznetsov goal, assisted by T.J. Oshie and Alex Ovechkin. Edmonton tied it with a Benoit Pouliot goal, via Nail Yakupov and Connor McDavid. The Capitals retook the lead on a Nicklas Backstrom goal, his fourth of the season, coming on the power play with the help of John Carlson and Oshie. The Oilers retied it with a Rob Klinkhammer goal, guided in by Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Washington took the lead again on a Marcus Johansson goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Justin Williams and Backstrom. Edmonton tied it again on a McDavid goal, his fifth of the season, a power play goal powered by Andrej Sekera and Mark Letestu. The Capitals edged ahead with a Kuznetsov goal, his second of the game, made possible by Carlson and Brooks Orpik. Washington added on with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his second of the year, pushed through by Kuznetsov and Ovechkin. The Capitals extended the lead on a Williams goal, passed from Matt Niskanen and Kuznetsov. Nilsson was replaced by Cam Talbot in goal. The Oilers got one back on a Nugent-Hopkins goal, his third of the campaign, with a lone assist by Anton Slepyshev. Washington made it 7-4 as Kuznetsov completed his hat trick in the third period, thanks to Burakovsky and Carlson, the latter getting a sock trick. The three stars were awarded to Kuznetsov, Backstrom, and Burakovsky, while Carlson, Williams, McDavid, Nugent-Hopkins, Oshie, and Ovechkin get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Cam Ward and Jonathan Quick are the masked men. Los Angeles began in the first period on a Tyler Toffoli power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Christian Ehrhoff and Milan Lucic. The Kings added on in the third period on an Anze Kopitar goal, his second of the year, guided in by Tanner Pearson. Los Angeles iced it at 3-0 with Toffoli's second of the game and sixth of the campaign, made possible by Lucic and Brayden McNabb. The three stars were named as Toffoli, Quick (40 save shutout), and Lucic.

Eight games on today, beginning with...

Amur Khabarovsk hosting Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. Ilya Proskuryakov and Juha Metsola are set to start in goal. Nizhny Novgorod began in the first period on a Sergei Kostitsyn goal, helped along by Carl Klingberg. Khabarovsk tied it on a Danil Faizullin goal, passed from Maxim Veryovkin and Evgeny Grachyov. Torpedo retook the lead with a power play goal by Denis Shurakov, powered by Artyom Alyayev and Igor Rudenkov. Nizhny Novgorod added on with a Klingberg goal, via Linus Videll. This made it 3-1, with the three stars going to Klingberg, Shurakov, and Proskuryakov (41 for 42 in saves).

Down in Vladivostok, Admiral welcomes Dinamo Minsk. Kevin Lalande and Ivan Nalimov. Minsk struck first in the first period on a Paul Szczechura power play goal, powered by Lukas Krajicek. Vladivostok tied it in the second period on a power play goal by Konstantin Makarov, made possible by Jonathon Blum and Oskars Bartulis. Admiral took the lead with a Viktor Alexandrov goal, courtesy of Niclas Bergfors and Ivan Glazkov. Dinamo retied it on an Andrei Stepanov goal, helped along by Konstantin Koltsov and Alexei Kalyuzhny. Vladivostok retook the lead on an Artyom Podshendyalov goal in the third period, fueled by Alexander Kuznetsov. Admiral added on with a Blum goal, guided in by Alexandrov and Bergfors. Vladivostok finished it at 5-2 on a Kuznetsov goal, with a lone helper by Artyom Zemchyonok. The three stars went to Kuznetsov, Blum, and Alexandrov, while Bergfors gets an honorable mention.

Westward to Togliatti, where Lada hosts Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. Vitaly Koval and Edgars Masalskis are the masked men. Nizhnekamsk got going in the second period on a Jeff Taffe goal, passed from Mikhail Zhukov and Yegor Milovzorov. Togliatti tied it on an Anton Krysanov goal, assisted by Alexander Bolshakov and Georgy Belousov. Lada took the lead in the third period on a Belousov goal, made possible by Anton Shenfeld and Krysanov. Neftekhimik tied it again with a Dmitry Ogurtsov goal, coming off of Maxim Rybin. Togliatti retook the lead with a Mark Flood goal, via Stanislav Bocharov and Vasily Streltsov. This made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars handed to Belousov, Krysanov, and Flood.

Up in Kazan, Ak Bars brings in Traktor Chelyabinsk. Vasily Demchenko and Jussi Rynnas man the nets. Kazan led off in the first period on a Denis Golubev goal, courtesy of Dmitry Arkhipov. Ak Bars added on with a Justin Azevedo goal, guided in by Nikolai Belov. Kazan extended the lead in the second period on an unassisted goal by Marek Daloga. Ak Bars padded the lead as Azevedo scored his second of the game, with the help of Daloga and Oscar Moller. Kazan continued in the third period with a Mikhail Varnakov power play goal, powered by Moller and Azevedo. Pavel Francouz relieved Demchenko in goal. Chelyabinsk got on the board with an Artyom Borodkin goal, via Alexander Rybakov and Ilya Davydov. The final held at 5-1, with the three stars being Azevedo, Daloga, and Moller.

A little bit west, we have Vityaz Podolsk hosting the Sochi Leopards. Konstantin Barulin and Harri Sateri are the solid goalies. Podolsk was first to score in the first period with a Roman Horak goal, assisted by Maxim Afinogenov and Teemu Eronen. Sochi tied it in the second period with a Pyotr Schastlivy penalty shot goal, coming after Grigory Vashchenko tripped him. Vityaz retook the lead on a Mario Kempe goal, with a lone assist by Olli Palola. Podolsk added on with a penalty shot goal by Dmitry Shitikov in the third period, which he received after Renat Mamashev tripped him. The final held at 3-1 for Vityaz, with the three stars given to Sateri (45 for 46 in saves), Kempe, and Shitikov.

Up in the city, Dynamo Moscow welcomes Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Vitaly Kolesnik and Alexander Lazushin guard the cages. Moscow opened in the first period on a power play goal by Vladimir Bryukvin, powered by Ilya Nikulin and Alexander Osipov. Yaroslavl tied it in the second period on an Emil Galimov goal, going in unassisted. Lokomotiv took the lead on a Daniil Apalkov power play goal, assisted by Staffan Kronwall and Petri Kontiola. Yaroslavl added on with a Kronwall goal, guided in by Andrei Loktionov and Sergei Konkov. Lokomotiv extended the lead with an Artyom Ilyenko goal, passed from Patrik Hersley and Kronwall. Dynamo got one back in the third period on a Denis Kokarev goal, helped along by Alexei Tereshchenko. This only made it 4-2, the final, with the three stars given to Kronwall, Ilyenko, and Kolesnik (32 for 34 in saves).

West to Bratislava, where Slovan hosts Avangard Omsk. Denis Kostin and Michael Garnett are in the blue paint. Omsk started in the first period on an Ivan Lekomtsev goal, fueled by Martin Erat and Alexander Perezhogin. Avangard added on in the second period with a Nikolai Lemtyugov goal, passed from Pavel Valentenko and Nikolau Glukhov. Omsk extended the lead with a Denis Parshin goal, coming off of Michal Kempny and Lekomtsev. The scoring ended here at 3-0, with the three stars going to Lekomtsev, Kostin (24 save shutout), Lemtyugov.

Finally, Medvesak Zagreb brings in Barys Astana. Alexei Ivanov and Danny Taylor are all padded up. Zagreb dented the scoreboard in the first period on an Andreas Jamtin goal, courtesy of Jesse Saarinen. Medvescak added on in the second period on an unassisted goal by Mike Glumac. Zagreb extended the lead in the third period as Tomas Mertl scored, with the help of Radek Smolenak and Blake Parlett. The final held at 3-0, with the three stars going to Taylor (30 save shutout), Jamtin, and Glumac.

2015-16 NHL Season - Day 16

Eight games tonight, beginning with...

The New York Rangers hosting the Arizona Coyotes. Mike Smith and Henrik Lundqvist are the experienced goalies. Arizona started in the first period on a Klas Dahlbeck goal, assisted by Max Domi and Martin Hanzal. New York tied it in the second period on a Chris Kreider goal, passed from Mats Zuccarello and Marc Staal. The Rangers took the lead with a Kevin Hayes goal in the third period, his second of the season, via J.T. Miller. New York added on with a Keith Yandle power play goal, powered by Zuccarello and Derek Stepan. The Rangers finished it at 4-1 with an unassisted empty net goal from Rick Nash. The three stars went to Lundqvist (34 for 35 in saves), Zuccarello, and Hayes.

Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins welcome the Dallas Stars. Antti Niemi and Marc-Andre Fleury are the goalies. Dallas led off with a Johnny Oduya goal, coming off of Jason Demers and Vernon Fiddler in the first period. The Stars added on with a John Klingberg power play goal, powered by Patrick Sharp. Dallas extended the lead in the second period on a Jason Spezza goal, his fifth of the season, going in unassisted. Pittsburgh got on the board with an unassisted Nick Bonino goal. The Stars replied with a Mattias Janmark goal, his third of the year, made possible by Valeri Nichushkin and Klingberg. The final held at 4-1, with the three stars given to Klingberg, Niemi (33 for 34 in saves), and Spezza.

Up in Ottawa, the Senators host the New Jersey Devils. Cory Schneider faces a lesser foe in Andrew Hammond in goal. New Jersey began in the first period on a Travis Zajac power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Kyle Palmieri and Mike Cammalleri. Ottawa tied it on a shorthanded and unassisted Mika Zibanejad goal, his second of the year. The Devils retook the lead as Jordin Tootoo scored a power play goal, with helpers from Adam Henrique and Jacob Josefson. The Senators tied it with a second period goal by Zack Smith, helped along by Chris Neil and Shane Prince. Ottawa took the lead with a Mike Hoffman power play goal in the third period, his fourth of the season, assisted by Curtis Lazar and Zibanejad. The Senators added on with a Neil goal, via Prince and Jared Cowen. New Jersey chipped back on a Henrique goal, his fourth of the year, courtesy of Cammalleri and Lee Stempniak. The Devils tied it with a Stempniak goal, his second of the campaign, fueled by Damon Severson and Cammalleri, the latter getting a sock trick. The tie went to a shootout, where Josefson and Stempniak topped Bobby Ryan for a 5-4 New Jersey win. The three stars went to Stempniak, Cammalleri, and Henrique, while Zibanejad, Josefson, Neil, and Prince get honorable mentions.

Back south, the Nashville Predators bring in the Anaheim Ducks. Anton Khudobin is mismatched with Pekka Rinne in goal. Nashville got going in the second period on an Eric Nystrom goal, his second of the season, fueled by Austin Watson and Mattias Ekholm. The Predators added on with a Ryan Ellis goal, helped along by Mike Ribeiro and Seth Jones. Nashville extended the lead as Ribeiro scored, thanks to James Neal and Colin Wilson. The Predators padded the lead in the third period on an Ekholm goal, made possible by Ellis and Wilson. Anaheim got on the board with a Jiri Sekac power play goal, powered by Ryan Kesler and Rickard Rakell. Nashville answered with a Wilson power play goal, coming off of Ellis and Jones. This made it 5-1, the final, with the three stars being Ellis, Ekholm, and Ribeiro, while Jones and Wilson get the honorable mentions.

North to Minnesota, where the Wild host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky and Devan Dubnyk are the overrated goalies. Minnesota opened in the first period on a Zach Parise goal, his sixth of the season, via Ryan Suter. Columbus tied it on an Alexander Wennberg goal, coming off of Scott Hartnell and Cody Goloubef. The Blue Jackets took the lead with a Brandon Dubinsky power play goal, his second of the year, made possible by Cam Atkinson and Ryan Murray. The Wild retied it in the second period on a Nino Niederreiter goal, his third of the season, assisted by Jared Spurgeon and Mikko Koivu. Minneosta took the lead on a Thomas Vanek power play goal, his third of the year, with helpers from Jason Zucker and Spurgeon. The score remained at 3-2, with the three stars given to Spurgeon, Vanek, and Niederreiter.

Backtracking to Chicago, where the Blackhawks welcome the Florida Panthers. Roberto Luongo and Corey Crawford guard the cages. Chicago struck first in the first period on an Artem Anisimov goal, his third of the season, guided in by Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook. Florida tied it with a Vincent Trocheck goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. The Blackhawks retook the lead on a Seabrook power play goal in the second period, his second of the season, powered by Artemi Panarin and Kane. Chicago added on in the third period on a Kane power play goal, his fifth of the year, with assists provided by Seabrook and the goalie Crawford. The Panthers got one back on a Jaromir Jagr power play goal, his fifth of the campaign, courtesy of Nick Bjugstad and Dave Bolland. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars being Seabrook, Kane, and Anisimov.

Northwest to Vancouver, where the Canucks host the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Ryan Miller are in the blue paint. Washington was first to score in the first period on a Jason Chimera goal, his third of the season, via Jay Beagle and Andre Burakovsky. Vancouver tied it in the second period as Radim Vrbata scored, thanks to Henrik Sedin and Alexander Edler. The Canucks took the lead on a Henrik Sedin power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Daniel Sedin and Vrbata. The Capitals retied it in the third period as Beagle scored, with the help of John Carlson and Marcus Johansson. Washington gained the lead with an Alex Ovechkin goal, his fifth of the campaign, assisted by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov. This held up for a 3-2 win, with the three stars given to Beagle, Henrik Sedin, and Vrbata.

Finally, a Battle of California game with the San Jose Sharks bringing in the Los Angeles Kings. Jhonas Enroth faces former King Martin Jones in goal. Los Angeles drew first blood in the first period on a Tyler Toffoli goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by Alec Martinez and Jeff Carter. The Kings added on with a Milan Lucic power play goal, powered by Christian Ehrhoff and Carter. Los Angeles extended the lead in the second period on a Carter goal, with a lone assist by Drew Doughty. San Jose got on the board with a Joel Ward goal, his second of the year, coming off of Joe Pavelski and Brenden Dillon. The Kings answered with Carter's second of the game in the third period, an unassisted power play goal. This made it 4-1, the final, with the three stars handed to Carter, Enroth (39 for 40 in saves), and Lucic.

Khanty-Mansiysk got on the board with a second period power play goal by Igor Bortnikov, via Kirill Rasskazov and Andrei Antonov. Moscow shot back on a Radil goal, fueled by Glazachev. Spartak extended the lead as Igor Levitsky scored a power play goal in the third period, thanks to Bodrov and Shmelyov. Moscow padded the lead on an Andrei Yermakov power play goal, made possible by Dmitry Korobov and Shmelyov. Yugra got one back with a power play goal by Pavel Varfolomeyev, with a lone assist by Andrei Ivanov. This made it 5-2, the final, with the three stars being Shmelyov, Radil, and Glazachev, while Bodrov gets an honorable mention.

The tie went to a shootout, where Parenteau got matched by Tyler Ennis and topped by Matt Moulson for a 2-1 Sabres win. The three stars went to Bernier (34 for 35 in saves), Parenteau, and Johnson (23 for 24 in saves).

Down to Boston, where the Bruins welcome the Philadelphia Flyers. Michal Neuvirth and Tuukka Rask play in the blue paint. Philadelphia led off in the first period on a Pierre-Edouard Bellemare goal, courtesy of Chris VandeVelde and Ryan White. Boston tied it on a Brett Connolly goal, passed from Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. The Flyers retook the lead on a Sam Gagner goal, his second of the season, guided in by Scott Laughton and Luke Schenn. The Bruins tied it again with a Bergeron power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Loui Eriksson and David Krejci. Sporting Kansas City VS. Colorado Rapids 10/21/15

Tonight's single make-up game from earlier in the season has Sporting Kansas City hosting the Colorado Rapids. Zac MacMath and Tim Melia are the mediocre goalies. Colorado's Sam Cronin took a yellow card for his forty-second minute foul. The Rapids led off with a seventy-eighth minute goal by Dillon Powers, set up by Juan Ramirez and Kevin Doyle. Colorado's Ramirez took a yellow card for his eightieth minute simulation. In the eighty-fourth minute, Cronin had another yellow card for the Rapids for a foul, putting them at ten men, followed by a yellow card to the goalie MacMath for dissent. In the eighty-sixth minute, Colorado added on through a Marcelo Sarvas goal, passed from Ramirez. Kansas City saw a yellow card given to Kevin Ellis for an eighty-ninth minute foul. New Jersey got going in the second period with a shorthanded goal by Travis Zajac, set up by Jacob Josefson and Adam Larsson. Arizona tied it on an Anthony Duclair power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Max Domi and Martin Hanzal in the third period. The Devils retook the lead on a Mike Cammalleri goal, his second of the year, via Zajac. The Coyotes tied it with a Mikkel Boedker goal, coming off of Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Michael Stone. New Jersey won 3-2 in overtime on a Larsson goal, assisted by Zajac and Lee Stempniak. The three stars went to Zajac, Larsson, and Cammalleri.

Along to Pittsburgh, where the Penguins welcome the Florida Panthers. Roberto Luongo and Marc-Andre Fleury guard the cages. Pittsburgh began in the first period on a Sidney Crosby power play goal, powered by Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang. The Penguins added on as Phil Kessel scored his second of the season, with the help of Rob Scuderi and Crosby. Florida got on the board with a Quinton Howden goal, passed from Connor Brickley and Erik Gudbranson. The Panthers tied it on a Derek MacKenzie goal, courtesy of Brickley and Howden. Up north, the Montreal Canadiens host the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Carey Price are the masked men. The Canadiens added on with an Alexander Semin goal in the second period, guided in by Alex Galchenyuk and Lars Eller. Staying in London, Chelsea welcomes Aston Villa. Brad Guzan and Asmir Begovic are in goal. Chelsea led off in the thirty-fourth minute on a Diego Costa goal, via Willian. Jordan Ayew of Aston Villa took a yellow card for his forty-ninth minute foul. In the fifty-fourth minute, Alan Hutton of Aston Villa put the ball in his own net, giving Chelsea a larger lead. Sunday's game is Newcastle United bringing in Norwich City. John Ruddy and Robert Elliot are in goal. Cheick Tiote of Newcastle United had a yellow card for his sixth minute foul. In the fourteenth minute, Newcastle United started with a Georginio Wijnaldum goal, passed from Moussa Sissoko. Norwich City tied it in the twentieth minute with a Dieumerci Mbokani goal, courtesy of Martin Olsson. Newcastle United reclaimed the lead on a twenty-sixth minute Wijnaldum goal, again set up by Sissoko. Newcastle United added on with a thirty-third minute goal from Ayoze Perez. Norwich City got one back on a Nathan Redmond goal in the thirty-fourth minute, coming off of Olsson. In the sixty-fourth minute, Aleksandar Mitrovic scored for Newcastle United, thanks to Sissoko, who earned a sock trick for his third assist. Newcastle United extended the lead with a Wijnaldum goal in the sixty-sixth minute, completing his hat trick on a passed ball from Daryl Janmaat. Graham Dorrans of Norwich City received a yellow card for dissent in the same minute. Newcastle United padded the lead on another Wijnaldum goal in the eighty-fifth minute, his fourth of the game, with an assist from Perez. The final stood at 6-2 for Newcastle United. 

Monday saw the final game of the weekend, with Swansea City hosting Stoke City. Jack Butland and Lukasz Fabianski are the keepers. Stoke City took an early lead with a Bojan penalty kick goal in the fourth minute. In the forty-first minute, Swansea City's Ashley Williams had a yellow card for a foul. Stoke City saw a yellow card given to Erik Pieters for his forty-fifth minute foul. Swansea City's Jonjo Shelvey received a yellow card in the fifty-seventh minute for a foul. Xherdan Shaqiri of Stoke City had a yellow card in the sixty-sixth minute. The final held at 1-0, favoring Stoke City.

Eight games once again grace the schedule. The day begins in...

Khabarovsk, with Amur hosting Severstal Cherepovets. Jakub Stepanek and Juha Metsola are set to start in goal. Khabarovsk was first to score in the first period on a Denis Tolpeko goal, fueled by Nikita Cherepanov and Tom Wandell. Cherepovets tied it in the second period with an unassisted Evgeny Kovyrshin goal. Amur took the lead back on a Vladislav Ushenin goal, with a lone assist by Vyacheslav Ushenin. Severstal retied it in the third period as Evgeny Mons scored, thanks to Ondrej Nemec and Pavel Chernov. Cherepovets took the lead on a Sergei Monakhov goal, guided in by Anatoly Nikontsev and Kovyrshin. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars given to Kovyrshin, Monakhov, and Mons.

Down to Vladivostok, where Admiral welcomes CSKA Moscow. Stanislav Galimov and Ivan Nalimov are given the starting nods. Moscow dented the scoreboard in the third period on an Andrei Svetlakov goal, courtesy of Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kuzmenko. CSKA added on with a Svetlakov goal, his second of the game, passed from Radulov and Nikita Zaitsev. This made it 2-0, the final, with the three stars being Svetlakov, Galimov (26 save shutout), and Radulov.

To the west, Metallurg Novokuznetsk hosts Dinamo Minsk. Kevin Lalande and Andrei Kareyev draw the starts. Novokuznetsk struck first in the first period on a Kirill Kaprizov goal, assisted by Ryan Stoa. Minsk tied it on an Andrei Stepanov goal, via Alexei Kalyuzhny in the second period. Dinamo took the lead on a Dmitry Meleshko goal, coming off of Lukas Krajicek and Dmitry Buinitsky. Metallurg retied it on a Stoa goal, with a lone assist by Cade Fairchild. Minsk took the lead in the third period as Alexander Pavlovich scored, thanks to Paul Szczechura and Nick Bailen. Novokuznetsk tied it again with a Fairchild power play goal, going in unassisted. In the shootout, Stepanov was the only one to find twine, lifting Dinamo to a 4-3 win. The three stars went to Stepanov, Fairchild, and Stoa.

Nearby, Sibir Novosibirsk brings in Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. Mikhail Biryukov and Alexander Salak are the veteran goalies. Novosibirsk led off in the first period on a David Ullstrom power play goal, powered by Calle Ridderwall and Ivan Vereshchagin. Sibir added on in the second period with an Alexei Kopeikin power play goal, courtesy of Vitaly Menshikov and Oleg Gubin. Novosibirsk extended the lead on an unassisted goal from Sergei Shumakov. Nizhny Novgorod got on the board in the third period with a Sergei Kostitsyn shorthanded goal, set up by Maxim Osipov. Sibir iced it at 4-1 on a Ridderwall goal, helped along by Ullstrom and Tomas Vincour. The three stars went to Ullstrom, Salak (27 for 28 in saves), and Ridderwall.

Way out west, Vityaz Podolsk hosts Avangard Omsk. Dominik Furch and Harri Sateri are the masked men. Podolsk started in the first period on an Alexei Makeyev goal, assisted by Mario Kempe and Olli Palola. Omsk tied it on an unassisted Ilya Zubov goal in the second period. Vityaz retook the lead as Makeyev scored again, with the help of Denis Abdullin and Alexander Nikulin. Podolsk added on in the third period with a power play goal from Maxim Afinogenov, powered by Dmitry Shitikov and Roman Horak. Up in Moscow, Dynamo welcomes Barys Astana. Jan Laco and Alexander Lazushin are between the pipes. Moscow opened in the first period on a Mat Robinson goal, made possible by Maxim Pestushko. Astana tied it on a third period goal from Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev, via Talgat Zhailauov. Barys took the lead with a Nigel Dawes goal, fueled by Brandon Bochenski. This made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars being Dawes, Laco (33 for 34 in saves), and Krasnoslobodtsev.

Out to Slovakia, where Slovan Bratislava hosts Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. Jakub Kovar and Barry Brust tend the twines. Yekaterinburg got going in the second period on an Eero Elo goal, guided in by Alexei Simakov and Nikolai Timashov. Bratislava tied it on a Vaclav Nedorost goal, coming off of Juraj Valach. Avtomobilist took the lead in the third period with a power play goal from Alexei Vasilevsky, powered by Petr Koukal. Slovan tied it on an Andrej Stastny goal, fueled by Ziga Jeglic. Bratislava took the lead on a Milan Bartovic goal, helped along by Cam Barker and Tomas Starosta. Yekaterinburg tied it on an Anatoly Golyshev power play goal, with a lone helper from Tommi Kivisto. In the shootout, Slovan won 4-3 with tallies from Jeglic and Lukas Kaspar. The three stars went to Jeglic, Golyshev, and Bartovic.

Finally, in Croatia, Medvescak Zagreb brings in Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk. Georgy Gelashvili and Danny Taylor are in the creases. Khanty-Mansiysk began in the first period on a Konstantin Panov power play goal, powered by Kirill Rasskazov and Stanislav Kalashnikov. Zagreb tied it on a Nathan Perkovich goal, passed from Geoffrey Kinrade and Mike Glumac. Medvescak took the lead on a Tomislav Zonaski goal, helped along by Shaone Morrisonn. Yugra retied it with a Nikita Gusev goal, made possible by Mikhail Mamkin and Andrei Ivanov. Zagreb regained the lead on a Gilbert Brule goal, via Jesse Saarinen. Khanty-Mansiysk retied it again with a Panov goal, his second of the game, with a lone assist by Rasskazov. Gasper Kroselj relieved Taylor beginning in the second period. Medvescak pulled ahead on a power play goal from Marek Kvapil, courtesy of Milan Jurcina and Radek Smolenak. Yugra tied it once again as Alexei Mikhnov scored, thanks to Kalashnikov and Andrei Taratukhin. Khanty-Mansiysk took the lead with an unassisted Panov goal, completing his hat trick. Zagreb fired back, tying the game with a Kinrade goal, going in unassisted. Yugra regained the lead in the third period on a Taratukhin goal, with a lone assist by Gusev. Medvescak equalized as Smolenak scored, with the help of Kvapil. In the shootout, Khanty-Mansiysk saw a tally by Artyom Bulyansky cancelled out by Zagreb's Smolenak, but Panov proved the hero with the decisive tally for a 7-6 Yugra win. The three stars were awarded to Panov, Gusev, and Kinrade, while Rasskazov, Kalashnikov, Kvapil, Smolenak, and Taratukhin all get honorable mentions.

2015-16 NHL Season - Day 12

Five games going today, beginning with...

The New York Rangers hosting the New Jersey Devils. Cory Schneider and Henrik Lundqvist guard the cages. New York struck first in the first period on a Derek Stepan goal, his third of the season, assisted by Oscar Lindberg. New Jersey tied it in the second period on an Adam Henrique goal, his third of the year, coming off of Mike Cammalleri and Damon Severson. The Devils took the game 2-1 in overtime with a Lee Stempniak goal, passed from Henrique and Andy Greene. The three stars went to Henrique, Stempniak, and Schneider (26 for 27 in saves).

Northwest to Winnipeg, where the Jets welcome the St. Louis Blues. Brian Elliott and Ondrej Pavelec are the veteran goalies. St. Louis got going in the second period on a Vladimir Tarasenko goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Dmitrij Jaskin and Jori Lehtera. Winnipeg tied it on a Mathieu Perreault power play goal, powered by Blake Wheeler and Bryan Little. The Blues retook the lead on a Scottie Upshall goal, his second of the year, via Jaskin and Joel Edmundson. The Jets retied it as Drew Stafford scored his second of the season, a power play goal, fueled by Nikolaj Ehlers and Mark Scheifele. St. Louis pulled ahead on a third period goal by Tarasenko, his second of the game and fifth of the year, courtesy of Scott Gomez and Carl Gunnarsson. The Blues added on with a Gunnarsson power play goal, made possible by Colton Parayko and David Backes. The final stood at 4-2, with the three stars handed to Tarasenko, Gunnarsson, and Jaskin.

Out in California, the Anaheim Ducks host the Minnesota Wild. Devan Dubnyk and Anton Khudobin are the masked men. Anaheim was first to score in the first period on a Cam Fowler goal, assisted by Ryan Getzlaf and Carl Hagelin. Minnesota tied it on a Nino Niederreiter goal, his second of the season, with a lone assist from Mikko Koivu. The Ducks took the lead back with a Rickard Rakell goal, helped along by Hampus Lindholm and Corey Perry. Anaheim added on in the third period with a Mike Santorelli goal, via Shawn Horcoff and Patrick Maroon. The Ducks extended the lead with an unassisted Lindholm empty net goal. The final was 4-1, with the three stars given to Lindholm, Khudobin (34 for 35 in saves), and Rakell.

North to British Columbia, as the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Anders Nilsson is mismatched with Ryan Miller in goal. Edmonton led off in the first period on a Nail Yakupov power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Connor McDavid and Mark Letestu. Vancouver tied it on a Matt Bartkowski goal, coming off of Sven Baertschi and Dan Hamhuis. Edmonton won 2-1 in overtime on a Lauri Korpikoski goal, his second of the year, with a lone assist by Andrej Sekera. The three stars belonged to Korpikoski, Nilsson (33 for 34 in saves), and Yakupov.

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the Colorado Avalanche. Reto Berra and Jonathan Quick draw the starts in goal. Los Angeles began in the first period on a Marian Gaborik goal, assisted by Dustin Brown and Brayden McNabb. Colorado tied it on a Matt Duchene power play goal in the second period, powered by Carl Soderberg and Jarome Iginla. The Kings took the lead as Tyler Toffoli scored his third of the campaign, going in unassisted. This held up for a 2-1 win, with the three stars being Toffoli, Quick (22 for 23 in saves), and Gaborik.

Major League Soccer Week 33

This week is structured a bit differently, with nine games in an unusual distribution. We begin with...

Orlando City SC hosting New York City FC as one of two Friday games. Josh Saunders and Tally Hall protect the nets. Orlando City's Cristian Higuita took a yellow card for a foul in the thirty-sixth minute. New York City opened in first half stoppage time on a Kwame Watson-Siriboe goal. Orlando City tied it in the sixty-second minute with a Cyle Larin goal, via Corey Ashe. In the sixty-eighth minute, Carlos Rivas of Orlando City took a yellow card for dissent. Orlando City gained the lead on a seventieth minute goal by Larin, set up by Adrian Winter. This made it 2-1, the final, with the man of the match being Larin for his brace.

The other Friday game has the San Jose Earthquakes welcoming Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and David Bingham are the inexperienced goalies. San Jose was first to score in the forty-seventh minute on an Anibal Godoy goal, passed from Chris Wondolowski and Shea Salinas. In the sixty-seventh minute, Godoy took a yellow card for his foul for the Earthquakes. Kansas City took a yellow in the sixty-ninth minute for a foul by Amobi Okugo. Sporting had another yellow card for an eighty-second minute Dominic Dwyer foul. The final stood at 1-0 for San Jose, and Godoy was the man of the match for the winner.

Saturday had three games, beginning with Toronto FC bringing in the Columbus Crew SC. Steve Clark and Joe Bendik draw the starts in goal. Columbus had a yellow card go to Federico Higuain in the thirty-first minute for a foul. In the fortieth minute, the Crew started with an Ethan Finlay goal, coming off of Tony Tchani and Higuain. In the forty-second minute, Michael Bradley of Toronto had a yellow card for dissent. Kei Kamara of Columbus received a yellow card for a sixty-third minute foul. Toronto's Benoit Cheyrou took a yellow card for his seventy-third minute foul. In the eighty-fifth minute, Gaston Sauro of the Crew got booked on a yellow card for a foul. In the eighty-seventh minute, Columbus saw a yellow card assessed to Michael Parkhurst for dissent. The Crew capped the win at 2-0 on a Higuain goal in stoppage time, passed from Aaron Schoenfeld. Higuain was the man of the match with a goal and an assist.

Stateside, the New England Revolution host the Montreal Impact. Bobby Shuttleworth and Evan Bush are the gloved men. Montreal's Johan Venegas received a yellow card for an argument in the fifth minute. In the fifty-second minute, Marco Donadel of the Impact took a yellow card for his persistent infringement. Montreal got going on a fifty-fifth minute Ignacio Piatti goal. This stood for a 1-0 win, with the man of the match being Piatti for his winner.

Saturday's last game has Real Salt Lake welcoming FC Dallas. Jesse Gonzalez and Jeff Attinella are the goalies. Salt Lake saw a yellow card for a twenty-sixth minute foul by Tony Beltran. Real's Kyle Beckerman received a yellow card for his fifty-third minute foul. Dallas dented the scoreboard in the fifty-seventh minute with a David Texeira goal, coming off of Mauro Diaz. Salt Lake had a yellow card given to Elias Vazquez in the sixtieth minute for a foul. In the sixty-second minute, Juan Manuel Martinez of Real took a yellow card for a foul. Dallas had a yellow card go to Je-Vaughn Watson in the sixty-sixth minute for a foul. John Stertzer of Salt Lake had a yellow card for an eighty-fifth minute foul. Gonzalez, the Dallas keeper, received a yellow card for time wasting in stoppage time. The final held at 1-0, with the man of the match being Gonzalez for his five-save clean sheet. 

Sunday is the big day this week, with four games, including the first, DC United bringing in the Chicago Fire. Jon Busch and Bill Hamid are in the six-yard boxes. DC struck first in the thirty-ninth minute on a Chris Pontius goal. Chicago's Gilberto took a yellow card for his fiftieth minute foul. United added on in the sixty-seventh minute with a Bobby Boswell goal, assisted by Fabian Espindola. DC extended the lead Espindola scored in the seventy-first minute, with the help of Nick DeLeon. The Fire's David Accam had a yellow card for his seventy-seventh minute foul. United padded the lead on an eightieth minute goal from Alvaro Saborio. The final held at 4-0, with the man of the match being Espindola with his goal and assist.

Along to New Jersey, where the New York Red Bulls host the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Luis Robles receive the starting nods in goal. New York drew first blood early, with a Mike Grella goal in the first minute, the fastest in MLS history. The Red Bulls added on with a fourth minute goal from Bradley Wright-Phillips, assisted by Damien Perrinelle and Sacha Kljestan. New York extended the lead on Grella's second of the game in the seventeenth minute, courtesy of Dax McCarty. Philadelphia had a yellow card go to Steven Vitoria in the forty-first minute for his foul. The Red Bulls padded the lead on a Kemar Lawrence goal in the forty-fourth minute, passed from McCarty and Lloyd Sam. The Union got on the board with a fifty-fifth minute Sebastien Le Toux goal, helped along by Tranquillo Barnetta. This ended the scoring at 4-1, with the man of the match being Grella for his brace.

Down in Houston, the Dynamo welcome the Seattle Sounders FC. Stefan Frei and Tyler Deric guard the woodwork. Seattle's Gonzalo Pineda took a yellow card in the fortieth minute for dissent. Andreas Ivanschitz of the Sounders took a yellow card for his fifty-fifth minute foul. Houston had a yellow card given to Luis Garrido in the sixty-fourth minute for a foul. The Dynamo began in the sixty-fifth minute on a Ricardo Clark goal, via Brad Davis. Seattle's Chad Barrett took a yellow card for a foul in the seventy-first minute. The Sounders tied it in the eighty-second minute with an Obafemi Martins goal, set up by Ivanschitz. This stood for a 1-1 final, with Martins as the man of the match for his equalizer.

Finally, the Los Angeles Galaxy bring in the Portland Timbers. Adam Larsen Kwarasey is opposite former Timber Donovan Ricketts in goal. Los Angeles led off in the thirty-sixth minute with a Robbie Keane goal, coming off of Juninho. Portland tied it on a sixty-fifth minute goal from Fanendo Adi, passed from Lucas Melano and Diego Valeri. In the sixty-seventh minute, Dan Gargan of the Galaxy took a yellow card for his foul, and on the ensuing penalty kick, Adi scored again to give the Timbers the lead. Portland added on in the seventy-fourth minute with a Diego Chara goal, set up by Rodney Wallace and Adi. Los Angeles had a yellow card for a seventy-seventh minute foul from Leonardo. In the eighty-first minute, the Timbers had a yellow card go to Jorge Villafana for his foul. The Galaxy pulled back with an eighty-fourth minute Keane goal, coming off of Jose Villarreal. Portland replied in the eighty-fifth minute on a Darlington Nagbe goal, made possible by Maximiliano Urruti and Villafana. The Timbers extended the lead as Urruti scored in the ninetieth minute, with the help of Villafana. The score finally stopped at 5-2 for Portland, with the man of the match being Adi with his brace and assist.

Chelyabinsk got going in the second period on an Ilya Davydov goal, passed from Filip Novak and Anton Glinkin. Magnitogorsk tied it on a Sergei Mozyakin power play goal, powered by Tomas Filippi. Traktor took the lead back on an Artyom Penkovsky goal, coming off of Stanislav Chistov and Nikita Khlystov. Chelyabinsk added on with an Artyom Borodkin goal in the third period, assisted by Alexander Rybakov on the power play. Metallurg shot back with a Danis Zaripov power play goal, via Mozyakin. Magnitogorsk tied it as Mozyakin scored his second of the game, with the help of Zaripov and Bogdan Potekhin on the power play. Metallurg won 4-3 in overtime on a Zaripov goal, with helpers provided by Mozyakin and Rafael Batyrsin. The three stars went to Mozyakin, Zaripov, and Demchenko (35 for 39 in saves).

Out west, Spartak Moscow welcomes Ak Bars Kazan. Emil Garipov and Atte Engren protect the nets. Kazan struck first in the first period on an Oscar Moller power play goal, courtesy of Mattias Sjogren. Backtracking to Yaroslavl, where Lokomotiv brings in Jokerit Helsinki. Henrik Karlsson and Alexei Murygin are the masked men.
