2015-16 NHL Season - Day 66

Ten games on today, led by a single matinee from...

Boston, as the Bruins host the Florida Panthers. Roberto Luongo and Tuukka Rask guard the cages. Boston was first to score in the first period on a Ryan Spooner goal, his sixth of the season, via Torey Krug. The Bruins added on with another Spooner goal in the second period, his second of the game and seventh of the year, a power play goal powered by Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. Florida got on the board with a Reilly Smith goal in the third period, his eighth of the season, courtesy of Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Pirri. Boston iced it at 3-1 with a Brad Marchand empty net goal, his fourteenth of the year, set up by Bergeron. The three stars went to Spooner, Rask (26 for 27 in saves), and Bergeron.

At the usual time, the Buffalo Sabres welcome the Los Angeles Kings. Jhonas Enroth faces his former team and Linus Ullmark in goal. Los Angeles began in the first period on a Marian Gaborik goal, his sixth of the season, courtesy of Anze Kopitar and Tanner Pearson. Buffalo tied it on a Jamie McGinn power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Ryan O'Reilly and Rasmus Ristolainen. The Sabres won 2-1 in overtime on an O'Reilly goal, his tenth of the campaign, with a lone assist by Jake McCabe. The three stars were handed to O'Reilly, Ullmark (20 for 21 in saves), and McGinn.

In Canada, the Montreal Canadiens bring in the Ottawa Senators. Craig Anderson and Dustin Tokarski draw the starts. Montreal led off in the first period on a Brian Flynn goal, his fourth of the season, passed from Nathan Beaulieu and Charles Hudon. The Canadiens added on with a Max Pacioretty goal, his fourteenth of the year, assisted by Tomas Plekanec and Dale Weise. Montreal extended the lead in the second period as Jeff Petry scored his fourth of the season, thanks to Weise and Alex Galchenyuk. Chris Driedger replaced Anderson midway through the period. Ottawa got on the board with a Jean-Gabriel Pageau goal, his eighth of the year, made possible by Alex Chiasson and Dave Dzuirzynski. This only made it 3-1, the eventual final, with the three stars going to Pacioretty, Tokarski (25 for 26 in saves), and Weise.

Down in Tampa Bay, the Lightning host the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Ben Bishop protect the nets. Washington opened in the first period on a Jay Beagle goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Stanislav Galiev. The Capitals added on with a second period goal by Evgeny Kuznetsov, his ninth of the year, via John Carlson. Tampa Bay got on the board in the third period as Nikita Kucherov scored his eleventh of the season, a power play goal helped along by Anton Stralman and Steven Stamkos. This only made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars belonging to Holtby (35 for 36 in saves), Kuznetsov, and Beagle.

Back north to Columbus, with the Blue Jackets welcoming the New York Islanders. Jaroslav Halak faces a lesser foe in Curtis McElhinney in goal. New York struck first in the first period with a Kyle Okposo goal, his seventh of the season, going in unassisted. Columbus tied it on a Brandon Saad goal, his tenth of the year, via Boone Jenner and Brandon Dubinsky in the second period. The Islanders took the lead back on a Frans Nielsen power play goal, his twelfth of the season, powered by Okposo and Nick Leddy. The Blue Jackets tied it in the third period on a Cam Atkinson goal, his ninth of the year, assisted by David Savard and Scott Hartnell. New York won 3-2 in overtime on an Okposo goal, his second of the game and eighth of the campaign, helped along by Josh Bailey. The three stars went to Okposo, Nielsen, and Halak (28 for 30 in saves).

Over in St. Louis, the Blues bring in the Dallas Stars. Antti Niemi and Jake Allen are the reliable goalies. St. Louis started in the first period on an David Backes power play goal, his ninth of the season, powered by Alexander Steen and Kevin Shattenkirk. The Blues added on with a third period goal by Vladimir Tarasenko, his seventeenth of the year, with a lone assist by Backes. St. Louis extended the lead as Ryan Reaves scored, thanks to Scottie Upshall. The final stood at 3-0, with the three stars being Allen (26 save shutout), Backes, and Tarasenko.

Back east, the Nashville Predators host the Colorado Avalanche. Semyon Varlamov and Pekka Rinne are the veteran goalies. Colorado struck first in the first period on a Francois Beauchemin power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Duchene. The Avalanche added on with a Nick Holden goal, his second of the year, fueled by Alex Tanguay and John Mitchell. Nashville got on the board with a Miikka Salomaki goal, his second of the season, coming off of Ryan Ellis and Colton Sissons. The Predators tied it in the third period on a Craig Smith goal, his seventh of the year, via Ellis and Mattias Ekholm. Colorado retook the lead on an Andreas Martinsen goal, his second of the season, made possible by Carl Soderberg and Beauchemin. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars going to Beauchemin, Ellis, and Martinsen.

Southwest to Arizona, with the Coyotes welcoming the Carolina Hurricanes. Eddie Lack and Anders Lindback are given the starting nods. Carolina led off in the first period on a Kris Versteeg goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Justin Faulk and Elias Lindholm. The Hurricanes added on with an Andrej Nestrasil power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Jordan Staal and Brett Pesce. Carolina extended the lead in the second period as Phillip Di Giuseppe scored his second of the season, thanks to Jeff Skinner and Jaccob Slavin. Arizona got on the board with an Anthony Duclair goal, his ninth of the year, with a lone assist by Max Domi. The Hurricanes shot back in the third period on a Faulk power play goal, his twelfth of the season, passed from Lindholm and Victor Rask. The Coyotes pulled back on a Duclair goal, his second of the game and tenth of the year, assisted by Viktor Tikhonov and Domi. Arizona got closer on a Kyle Chipchura goal, his fourth of the season, with a lone helper from Nicklas Grossmann. The Coyotes tied it on a Connor Murphy goal, his second of the year, driven in by Duclair. Carolina won on a Rask goal in overtime, his ninth of the campaign, set up by the goalie Lack and Lindholm, the latter getting a sock trick. The three stars went to Duclair, Lindholm, and Rask, while Faulk and Domi get the honorable mentions.

Up in Alberta, the Calgary Flames bring in the New York Rangers. Antti Raanta and Jonas Hiller are in the blue paint. New York opened in the first period on a J.T. Miller goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Viktor Stalberg and Kevin Hayes. Calgary tied it on an unassisted Johnny Gaudreau goal, his eleventh of the year. The Flames took the lead on a Mason Raymond goal, his second of the season, with a lone assist by Michael Frolik. Calgary added on with another Gaudreau goal, his second of the game and twelfth of the year, assisted by David Jones and Sean Monahan. The Flames extended the lead as Joe Colborne scored his fourth of the season, thanks to Matt Stajan and Kris Russell. The Rangers got one back on a Tanner Glass goal, via Dominic Moore. New York pulled closer on a Dan Boyle goal, his second of the year, made possible by Chris Kreider and Miller. The Rangers tied it on a Mats Zuccarello power play goal, his thirteenth of the season, powered by Boyle and Derick Brassard. Calgary won 5-4 in overtime on a T.J. Brodie goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Russell and Gaudreau. The three stars went to Gaudreau, Boyle, and Miller, while Russell gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks host the Minnesota Wild. Darcy Kuemper and Martin Jones are the inconsistent goalies. Minnesota got going in the third period on a Zach Parise goal, his ninth of the season, fueled by Mikael Granlund and Jason Pominville. The Wild iced it at 2-0 with an empty net goal by Mikko Koivu, his fifth of the year, set up by Parise and Jared Spurgeon. The three stars went to Parise, Kuemper (25 save shutout), and Jones (28 for 29 in saves).

Seven games again tonight, beginning with...

The New Jersey Devils hosting the Detroit Red Wings. Jimmy Howard and Cory Schneider guard the cages. Detroit got going in the second period on a Gustav Nyquist power play goal, his eleventh of the season, powered by Henrik Zetterberg and Niklas Kronwall. The Red Wings added on with a Tomas Tatar power play goal, his eleventh of the year, courtesy of Brad Richards and Mike Green. New Jersey got on the board with a Damon Severson goal in the third period, coming off of Jordin Tootoo and Stephen Gionta. The Devils tied it on a Sergey Kalinin power play goal, his third of the season, assisted by Kyle Palmieri and Tootoo. New Jersey won 3-2 in overtime with a Palmieri goal, his thirteenth of the year, passed from Lee Stempniak. The three stars went to Palmieri, Kalinin, and Tootoo.

West to Pittsburgh, as the Penguins welcome the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Marc-Andre Fleury tend the twines. Los Angeles led off in the first period on a Tanner Pearson goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Alec Martinez and Jake Muzzin. Pittsburgh tied it in the second period on an Eric Fehr shorthanded goal, his third of the year, set up by Matt Cullen and Brian Dumoulin. The Kings took the lead on a third period Muzzin goal, his third of the season, via Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar. The Penguins tied it on an Evgeni Malkin goal, his thirteenth of the year, assisted by Chris Kunitz and David Perron. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Perron was topped by Kopitar and Marian Gaborik as the Kings won 3-2. The three stars went to Muzzin, Kopitar, and Perron.

Over in Chicago, the Blackhawks bring in the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Corey Crawford are the masked men. Chicago was first to score in the first period on a Jonathan Toews power play goal, his ninth of the season, powered by Marian Hossa and Andrew Shaw. The Blackhawks added on with a Patrick Kane power play goal in the second period, his nineteenth of the year, assisted by Teuvo Teravainen and David Rundblad. This made it 2-0, the final, with the three stars going to Crawford (25 save shutout), Kane, and Toews.

Down in Dallas, the Stars host the Philadelphia Flyers. Michal Neuvirth and Antti Niemi draw the starts in goal. Philadelphia dented the scoreboard in the second period on a Shayne Gostisbehere power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. Dallas tied it on a Mattias Janmark goal, his sixth of the year, fueled by Jason Spezza and Johnny Oduya. Arizona tied it on a Mikkel Boedker goal, his tenth of the year, via Tobias Rieder. The Coyotes won 2-1 in overtime on a Boedker power play goal, his second of the game and eleventh of the campaign, set up by Antoine Vermette and Michael Stone. The three stars belonged to Boedker, Lindback (27 for 28 in saves), and Spurgeon.

North to Edmonton, where the Oilers welcome the New York Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist and Anders Nilsson are the Scandinavian goalies. Edmonton struck first in the first period on a Lauri Korpikoski power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Iiro Pakarinen and Mark Letestu. New York tied it on a Mats Zuccarello goal, his twelfth of the year, courtesy of Chris Kreider and Dylan McIlrath. The Oilers took the lead back on Korpikoski's second of the game and fifth of the campaign, made possible by Matt Hendricks and Justin Schultz. The Oilers retook the lead in the third period on a Hall goal, his thirteenth of the season, helped along by Purcell and Draisaitl. Edmonton extended the lead as Darnell Nurse scored his second of the year, thanks to Hall and Draisaitl, the latter getting a sock trick. Antti Raanta replaced Lundqvist at this time. The Rangers edged back on a Brassard goal, his eleventh of the campaign and second of the game, guided in by Nash and Keith Yandle. Finally, the Anaheim Ducks host the Carolina Hurricanes. Eddie Lack and John Gibson are the young goalies. The Hurricanes added on in the second period with a Skinner goal, his second of the game and tenth of the year, coming off of Victor Rask and Phillip Di Giuseppe. Carolina extended the lead as Elias Lindholm scored his fourth of the campaign, a power play goal powered by Eric Staal and Justin Faulk. Frederik Andersen replaced Gibson in goal for the third period. Anaheim got on the board with a Jakob Silfverberg goal, his third of the season, passed from Sami Vatanen and Rickard Rakell. 2015/16 KHL Season - Day 99

This is the last big day before the break. There is a single game on each of Sunday and Monday before the league takes a week off. We begin today's ten game slate in...

Vladivostok, with Admiral hosting Barys Astana. Pavel Poluektov and Ivan Nalimov make the starts. Vladivostok was first to score in the first period on an Alexander Gorshkov goal, passed from Dmitry Lugin. Admiral added on with a Jonathon Blum goal, via Konstantin Makarov and Artyom Podshendyalov on the power play. Vladivostok extended the lead in the second period as Lugin scored, thanks to Kirill Voronin and Nikita Lisov. Astana got on the board with a Brandon Bochenski goal, coming off of Dustin Boyd. Admiral shot back with a Yegor Dugin goal, with a lone assist by David Booth. Vladivostok padded the lead on a Booth power play goal, powered by Blum and Rushan Rafikov. Barys got one back in the third period on a Martin St. Pierre goal, courtesy of Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev and Vyacheslav Tryasunov. Astana pulled closer on a Roman Starchenko goal, fueled by Maxim Khudyakov. Admiral finished it at 6-3 with a Dugin goal, going in unassisted. Up in Khabarovsk, Amur welcomes Avangard Omsk. Dominik Furch and Juha Metsola protect the nets. Omsk got going in the second period on an Alexander Popov goal, passed from Ilya Mikheyev. Avangard added on with a shorthanded Valentin Pyanov goal, set up by Evgeny Kulik and Ivan Lekomtsev. Omsk extended the lead as Popov scored again, with the help of Denis Kulyash and Martin Erat. Avangard padded the lead in the third period on an Ilya Zubov power play goal, powered by Alexander Perezhogin. Khabarovsk got on the board with a Vladislav Ushenin goal, assisted by Vyacheslav Ushenin and Oleg Li. Amur pulled closer on a Vitaly Shulakov goal, made possible by Denis Tolpeko. This made it 4-2, the final, with the three stars going to Popov, Pyanov, and Zubov.

West to Nizhny Novgorod, where Torpedo brings in CSKA Moscow. Ilya Sorokin and Ilya Proskuryakov are in goal. Moscow struck first in the first period on a Grigory Panin goal, via Jan Mursak. CSKA added on with an Igor Ozhiganov power play goal in the third period, powered by Geoff Platt and Gennady Stolyarov. Moscow extended the lead on a Platt empty net goal, set up by Mursak and Alexander Radulov. The three stars of the 3-0 game were Platt, Sorokin (15 save shutout), and Mursak.

Out in St. Petersburg, SKA hosts Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Vasily Koshechkin and Igor Shestyorkin man the nets. St. Petersburg led off in the first period with an Andrei Kuteikin power play goal, powered by Vadim Shipachyov and Nikita Gusev. Magnitogorsk tied it in the second period with a Bogdan Potekhin goal, coming off of Tomas Filippi and Danis Zaripov. SKA took the lead back with an Evgeny Dadonov goal, assisted by Shipachyov and Gusev. Metallurg tied it again with a Sergei Mozyakin power play goal, with a lone helper by Zaripov. St. Petersburg regained the lead on a Steve Moses penalty shot, received after he was tripped by Zaripov. Magnitogorsk tied it again in the third period on a Mozyakin goal, his second of the game, via Chris Lee and Jan Kovar. SKA took the lead once more with a Kuteikin power play goal, passed from Moses and Anton Burdasov. St. Petersburg iced it at 5-3 on an Ilya Kovalchuk empty net goal, set up by Andrei Zubarev and Burdasov. The three stars went to Kuteikin, Mozyakin, and Shipachyov, while Gusev, Zaripov, and Burdasov get the honorable mentions.

Into Moscow, where Spartak welcomes Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Niklas Svedberg and Evgeny Ivannikov are between the pipes. Ufa dented the scoreboard in the second period on a Maxim Goncharov goal, coming off of Enver Lisin and Stepan Khripunov. Moscow tied it with an Alexander Mereskin goal in the third period, helped along by Konstantin Glazachev and Lukas Radil. Spartak took the lead on a Vyacheslav Leshchenko goal, assisted by Evgeny Bodrov and Alexander Vasilyev. Moscow added on with another Leshchenko goal, with a lone assist by Vasilyev. The final held at 3-1, with the three stars going to Leshchenko, Ivannikov (15 for 16 in saves), and Vasilyev.

Staying in the city, Dynamo Moscow brings in Lada Togliatti. Edgars Masalskis and Alexander Lazushin are the masked men. Moscow began in the first period on an Alexei Tereshchenko power play goal, powered by Maxim Pestushko and Mat Robinson. Togliatti tied it on a Denis Guryanov goal, assisted by Yefim Gurkin and Andrei Nikitenko. Lada won 2-1 in the shootout with a lone tally by Nikitenko. Back to Cherepovets, where Severstal hosts Dinamo Minsk. Jeff Glass and Jakub Stepanek are the veterans in goal. Dinamo padded the lead in the second period on another Cheechoo goal, passed from Vesce and Lukas Krajicek. Roman Smiryagin replaced Stepanek in goal. Minsk finished it at 5-0 with a Matt Ellison power play goal in the third period, powered by Cheechoo and Vesce, the latter getting a sock trick. Southwest to Podolsk, with Vityaz welcoming Ak Bars Kazan. Emil Garipov and Harri Sateri tend the twines. Podolsk opened in the first period on a Mario Kempe goal, passed from Teemu Eronen and Alexei Makeyev. Kazan tied it on an Oscar Moller power play goal in the second period, powered by Justin Azevedo and Mikhail Varnakov. Ak Bars took the lead on a Mikhail Glukhov goal, via Stepan Zakharchuk and Azevedo. Vityaz tied it on a shorthanded Makeyev goal in the third period, set up by Nikita Vyglazov. Podolsk took the lead as Vyacheslav Solodukhin scored, thanks to Ilya Davydov and Pavel Lukin on the power play. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars going to Makeyev, Solodukhin, and Azevedo.

Out in Croatia, Medvescak Zagreb brings in the Sochi Leopards. Konstantin Barulin and Danny Taylor are in the creases. Sochi got started in the second period on a Vladimir Malevich power play goal, powered by Ilya Krikunov and Andrei Kostitsyn. The Leopards added on with a Pyotr Schastlivy goal in the third period, coming off of Mikhail Anisin. Zagreb got on the board with an Edwin Hedberg goal, assisted by Marek Kvapil and Patrick Bjorkstrand. Medvescak tied it on a Bjorkstrand goal, passed from Colby Genoway and Kvapil. In the shootout, Kvapil and Genoway took the game with tallies to give Zagreb the 3-2 win. The three stars went to Bjorkstrand, Kvapil, and Genoway.

Finally, Slovan Bratislava hosts Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Alexei Murygin and Barry Brust are all padded up. Yaroslavl drew first blood in the first period on an Ilya Gorokhov goal, assisted by Jonas Enlund and Jiri Novotny. This was the only goal in the game, with the final at 1-0. The three stars were awarded to Murygin (38 save shutout), Gorokhov, and Brust (28 for 29 in saves).

2015-16 NHL Season - Day 64

Seven games for the day, beginning with...

The Detroit Red Wings hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Dustin Tokarski and Petr Mrazek are the young goalies. Detroit got going with a Darren Helm goal in the second period, his second of the season, fueled by Luke Glendening and Joakim Andersson. Montreal tied it on a Sven Andrighetto goal, his fourth of the year, passed from Charles Hudon and Andrei Markov. The Canadiens took the lead on a Tomas Fleischmann goal in the third period, his eighth of the season, assisted by David Desharnais and Daniel Carr. The Red Wings tied it on a Justin Abdelkader power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Henrik Zetterberg and Niklas Kronwall. Detroit took the lead on a Helm goal, his second of the game and third of the campaign, set up by Pavel Datsyuk. The final was 3-2, with the three stars given to Helm, Abdelkader, and Fleischmann.

Down in Tampa Bay, the Lightning welcome the Ottawa Senators. Craig Anderson and Ben Bishop are the underrated goalies. Tampa Bay extended the lead as Kucherov scored his second of the game and tenth of the season, an unassisted goal. Ottawa got on the board with a Cody Ceci goal, his third of the year, via Bobby Ryan and Mark Stone. The Lightning iced it at 4-1 with a Brown empty net goal, his third of the campaign, set up by Callahan. The three stars went to Kucherov, Brown, and Bishop (30 for 31 in saves), while Callahan gets an honorable mention.

Staying in the state, the Florida Panthers bring in the Washington Capitals. Philipp Grubauer and Al Montoya are the backups in goal. The start of the game was delayed due to the absence of paramedics at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. Once things got going, Florida led off with a Jaromir Jagr goal in the first period, his ninth of the season, assisted by Dmitry Kulikov and Jonathan Huberdeau. The Panthers added on with a Brandon Pirri power play goal in the second period, his sixth of the year, powered by Brian Campbell and Vincent Trocheck. Florida extended the lead on an Aaron Ekblad goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Huberdeau and Willie Mitchell. Washington got on the board with an Alex Ovechkin goal, his fourteenth of the year, passed from John Carlson and Nicklas Backstrom. Vladivostok extended the lead as Alexei Ugarov scored a power play goal, via Rushan Rafikov and Jonathon Blum. Astana got on the board in the third period with a Dustin Boyd power play goal, assisted by Brandon Bochenski and Nigel Dawes. Barys got closer with a Dawes power play goal, helped along by Kevin Dallman and Mike Lundin. Admiral iced it at 4-2 on a Yegor Dugin empty net goal, set up by Ugarov and Blum. The three stars went to Ugarov, Dawes, and Blum.

Up in Khabarovsk, Amur welcomes Avangard Omsk. Dominik Furch and Alexander Pechursky are set to start in goal. Four games tonight, beginning with...

The Montreal Canadiens hosting the Boston Bruins. Tuukka Rask faces a lesser foe in Mike Condon in goal. Montreal was first to score in the first period on a Paul Byron goal, his fourth of the season, with a lone helper by Tomas Plekanec. Boston tied it in the third period on a Loui Eriksson shorthanded goal, his eleventh of the year, set up by Zdeno Chara. The Bruins took the lead on a Landon Ferraro goal, his third of the season, via Ryan Spooner and Torey Krug. Boston added on with a Patrice Bergeron goal, his ninth of the year, coming off of Brad Marchand and Matt Beleskey. Eight games on today as the schedule picks up some steam approaching an international break starting next Tuesday. The first game today is...

Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod hosting Severstal Cherepovets. Jakub Stepanek and Ilya Proskuryakov get the starting nods. Nizhny Novgorod started with an unassisted Sergei Kostitsyn power play goal in the first period. Torpedo added on with an Artyom Alyayev power play goal, powered by Dmitry Semin and Kaspars Daugavins. Nizhny Novgorod extended the lead as Daugavins scored a power play goal, with the help of Semin and Alyayev. Cherepovets got on the board with a Daniil Vovchenko power play goal in the third period, helped along by Yury Trubachyov and Pavel Buchnevich. This only made it 3-1, the final, with the three stars being Alyayev, Daugavins, and Semin.

The Stars padded the lead on a Seguin power play goal, his fifteenth of the season, powered by Klingberg and Benn. Eddie Lack replaced Ward at the start of the second period. Carolina got on the board with a Jaccob Slavin goal, via Riley Nash and Eric Staal. Dallas replied on a Nichushkin goal, his fourth of the year, assisted by Benn and Seguin, the former getting a sock trick. The Hurricanes shot back with a Justin Faulk power play goal in the third period, his tenth of the season, made possible by Victor Rask and Elias Lindholm. Carolina pulled closer with a Phillip Di Giuseppe goal, coming off of Noah Hanifin and Rask. The Hurricanes edged closer on Faulk's second of the game and eleventh of the year, a power play goal with assists from Hanifin and Rask, the latter getting a sock trick. Carolina tied it with a Jeff Skinner goal, his eighth of the season, guided in by Andrej Nestrasil and Ron Hainsey. The Stars took a late lead with a Patrick Sharp power play goal, his tenth of the year, fueled by Klingberg and Seguin, both of whom got sock tricks. The final held at 6-5, with the three stars given to Seguin, Benn, and Klingberg, while Faulk, Nichushkin, Rask, Oduya, and Hanifin get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Calgary Flames bring in the San Jose Sharks. Martin Jones and Karri Ramo occupy the creases. Calgary drew first blood in the first period on a Markus Granlund goal, his second of the season, fueled by Jiri Hudler and Dennis Wideman. San Jose tied it with a Chris Tierney goal, his third of the year, passed from Joonas Donskoi and Dainius Zubrus. The Flames retook the lead on a Sean Monahan power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Mark Giordano and Wideman. The Sharks retied it on a Joe Thornton power play goal, his fourth of the year, assisted by Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture. Calgary took the lead back on a second period goal by Michael Frolik, his seventh of the season, made possible by Mikael Backlund and Dougie Hamilton. The Flames added on with a Backlund goal, his fourth of the year, coming off of Giordano and T.J. Brodie. This held up for a 4-2 win, with the three stars being Backlund, Giordano, and Wideman.

Vladivostok, as Admiral hosts Avangard Omsk. Dominik Furch and Igor Bobkov are in the creases. Omsk got going in the second period on a Michal Kempny goal, via Denis Parshin and Ilya Zubov. This stood for a 1-0 win, with the three stars going to Furch (27 save shutout), Kempny, and Bobkov (20 for 21 in saves).

Up in Khabarovsk, Amur welcomes Barys Astana. Pavel Poluektov and Juha Metsola protect the nets. Khabarovsk was first to score in the first period on a Denis Tolpeko power play goal, powered by Jan Kolar and Akim Aliu. Astana tied it in the second period with a Brandon Bochenski power play goal, guided in by Nigel Dawes and Kevin Dallman. Amur retook the lead on a Vyacheslav Litovchenko goal, via Evgeny Grachyov. Khabarovsk added on in the third period with a Vyacheslav Ushenin goal, courtesy of Rinat Ibragimov. Barys pulled back with a Dawes goal, fueled by Mike Lundin and Dustin Boyd. 2015-16 NHL Season - Day 61

Three games tonight, beginning with...

The Boston Bruins hosting the Nashville Predators. Carter Hutton and Jonas Gustavsson are the backups in goal. Boston started in the first period on a Kevan Miller goal, his second of the season, fueled by David Krejci and Matt Beleskey. Nashville tied it on a Roman Josi power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Mike Ribeiro and Shea Weber. The Bruins took the lead back on a second period Loui Eriksson power play goal, his tenth of the season, courtesy of Ryan Spooner and Patrice Bergeron. The Predators tied it again with a Josi power play goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, going in unassisted. Nashville took the lead on a Viktor Arvidsson goal in the third period, his third of the season, helped along by Cody Hodgson and Weber. The three stars of the 3-2 game went to Josi, Weber, and Arvidsson.

West to Colorado, where the Avalanche welcome the Minnesota Wild. Darcy Kuemper and Semyon Varlamov are the middling goalies. Colorado dented the scoreboard on a Tyson Barrie goal, his third of the season, coming off of Carl Soderberg and Blake Comeau. Minnesota tied it on a Zach Parise goal, his eighth of the year, via Mikael Granlund and Jason Pominville in the third period. The Avalanche won 2-1 with a John Mitchell goal, his sixth of the campaign in overtime assisted by Matt Duchene and Barrie. The three stars were Barrie, Mitchell, and Varlamov (19 for 20 in saves).

Up in Vancouver, the Canucks bring in the Buffalo Sabres for the last game of the day. Linus Ullmark faces former Sabres legend Ryan Miller in goal. Buffalo opened in the first period on a Brian Gionta goal, his third of the season, with a lone assist by Jamie McGinn. Vancouver tied it on a Radim Vrbata goal, his seventh of the year, courtesy of Chris Higgins and Ben Hutton. The Canucks took the lead on Vrbata's second of the game and eighth of the season, passed from Dam Hamhuis and Daniel Sedin. Vancouver added on in the second period as Brandon Prust scored, with the help of Derek Dorsett and Adam Cracknell. The Canucks extended the lead on a Henrik Sedin power play goal, his ninth of the year, powered by Alexander Edler and Daniel Sedin. The Sabres answered with a Sam Reinhart goal in the third period, his eighth of the season, helped along by Ryan O'Reilly. Vancouver answered on a Vrbata goal, completing his hat trick on his ninth of the year, made possible by Cracknell and Prust. Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hosting Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Niklas Svedberg and Alexei Murygin are in goal. Ufa got going in the second period on an Alexander Loginov goal, passed from Alexander Nesterov and Anton Lazarev. Yaroslavl tied it on a Daniil Apalkov goal in the third period, via Staffan Kronwall and Yegor Averin. Salavat Yulaev took the lead back with an Igor Grigorenko goal, courtesy of Loginov and Linus Omark on the power play. Down in Kazan, Ak Bars welcomes Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. Ilya Proskuryakov and Jussi Rynnas get the starting nods. Kazan began in the first period on a Mikhail Varnakov shorthanded goal, set up by Justin Azevedo. Ak Bars added on in the second period on a Vladimir Tkachyov goal, courtesy of Albert Yarullin. 2015/16 Premier League Week 15

Another full slate of games this weekend, with a big eight on Saturday to lead it off. The first is...

Stoke City hosting Manchester City. Joe Hart and Jack Butland make the starts in goal. Stoke City began in the seventh minute with a Marko Arnautovic goal, passed from Xherdan Shaqiri. In the fifteenth minute, Arnautovic scored again for Stoke City, via Shaqiri. Manchester City had a yellow card given to Nicolas Otamendi in the fifty-first minute for a foul. The final held at 2-0 for Stoke City.

In London, Arsenal welcomes Sunderland. Costel Pantilimon and Petr Cech are in goal. Arsenal led off in the thirty-third minute with a Joel Campbell goal, via Mesut Ozil. Laurent Koscielny of Arsenal took a yellow card for his foul in the forty-fourth minute. Sunderland tied it on a forty-fifth minute own goal by Olivier Giroud. Arsenal's Giroud made up for the mistake by scoring in the sixty-third minute, thanks to Aaron Ramsey. In the eightieth minute, DeAndre Yedlin of Sunderland had a yellow card for his foul. Arsenal iced it at 3-1 with a Ramsey goal in stoppage time.

Next up, West Bromwich Albion brings in Tottenham Hotspur. Hugo Lloris and Boaz Myhill are the goalies. Tottenham Hotspur struck first in the fifteenth minute on a Dele Alli goal, assisted by Toby Alderweireld. West Bromwich Albion tied it on a thirty-ninth minute goal by James McClean, via Darren Fletcher. West Bromwich Albion had yellow cards for James Morrison in the fifty-seventh minute and Craig Gardner in the seventy-third minute. Out in Wales, Swansea City welcomes Leicester City. Kasper Schmeichel and Lukasz Fabianski protect the nets. Leicester City was first to score with a Riyad Mahrez goal in the fifth minute, courtesy of Marc Albrighton. Leicester City added on with a twenty-second minute Mahrez goal, via N'Golo Kante. At the twenty-three minute mark, Kante received a yellow card for his foul. Leon Britton of Swansea City took a yellow card for his foul in the forty-seventh minute. Leicester City extended the lead as Mahrez finished his hat trick in the sixty-seventh minute, helped along by Jamie Vardy. Danny Simpson of Leicester City had a yellow card for a seventieth minute foul. Swansea City's Ki Sung-Yueng picked up a yellow card for a seventy-fourth minute foul. Leicester City's Albrighton took a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final held at 3-0 Leicester City.

Back in England, Southampton brings in Aston Villa. Brad Guzan and Maarten Stekelenburg are in the six-yard boxes. In the thirtieth minute, James Ward-Prowse of Southampton took a yellow card. Aston Villa dented the scoreboard in the forty-fourth minute with a Joleon Lescott goal, made possible by Jordan Veretout. Southampton tied it in the seventy-third minute with an Oriol Romeu goal, passed from Ward-Prowse. Aston Villa's Alan Hutton took a yellow card for an eighty-ninth minute foul, as Guzan for time wasting in the ninetieth minute. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Up north, Manchester United hosts West Ham United. Adrian and David de Gea are the keepers. Michael Carrick of Manchester United had the only yellow card of the game in the eighty-fifth minute for a foul. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Saturday ends with Chelsea welcoming Bournemouth. Artur Boruc and Thibaut Courtois are set to start in goal. Chelsea's Pedro took a twenty-first minute yellow card for his foul. Bournemouth had a yellow card for an Andrew Surman foul in the twenty-third minute. In the sixty-third minute, Diego Costa of Chelsea took a yellow card for a foul. Bournemouth got going in the eighty-second minute on a Glenn Murray goal. This stood for a 1-0 Bournemouth win.

On Sunday, Newcastle United brings in Liverpool. Simon Mignolet and Robert Elliot are in goal. Newcastle United had a yellow card given to Jack Colback in the thirty-fourth minute for his foul. Lucas Leiva of Liverpool had a yellow card for his forty-fifth minute foul. Newcastle United saw yellow cards for Vurnon Anita in the sixtieth minute and Papiss Demba Cisse in the sixty-third minute, both for fouls. Newcastle United drew first blood in the sixty-ninth minute as Martin Skrtel put the ball in his own new for an own goal. Newcastle United added with a Georginio Wijnaldum goal in stoppage time, via Moussa Sissoko. This made it 2-0, the final. 

Finally, on Monday, Everton hosts Crystal Palace. Wayne Hennessey and Tim Howard are the goalies. Crystal Palace's Connor Wickham had a yellow card for his fifty-third minute foul. Winnipeg tied it in the second period on a Chris Thorburn goal, his fourth of the year, via Toby Enstrom. The Blackhawks took the lead in the third period on a Teuvo Teravainen goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Duncan Keith and Hossa. Chicago made it 3-1, the final, with an empty net goal by Artemi Panarin, his ninth of the year, set up by Patrick Kane and Niklas Hjalmarsson. Hossa, Crawford (30 for 31 in saves), and Teravainen get the three stars.

Back east, the Carolina Hurricanes welcome the Arizona Coyotes. Anders Lindback and Cam Ward are the weak goalies. New Jersey fired back on a Henrique goal, his thirteenth of the year, made possible by Adam Larsson. The Rangers added on with a Derick Brassard power play goal, his eighth of the year, coming off of McDonagh and Rick Nash. Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Jonathan Quick are in the blue paint. Los Angeles drew first blood in the first period on an Andy Andreoff goal, his second of the season, via Nick Shore and Drew Doughty. Tampa Bay tied it on a Brian Boyle goal, his seventh of the year, fueled by Ryan Callahan. The Kings took the lead back on a Brayden McNabb goal, passed from Anze Kopitar. Ben Bishop came on for Vasilevskiy at this time. Los Angeles added on with a Milan Lucic goal, his tenth of the season, courtesy of Jeff Carter and McNabb. The final stayed at 3-1, with the three stars going to McNabb, Quick (24 for 25 in saves), and Lucic.

MLS Cup 2015

Here's the one game to decide it all, with the Columbus Crew SC hosting the Portland Timbers for all the marbles. Adam Larsen Kwarasey and Steve Clark man the nets. Portland got off to a brilliant started with a first minute goal from Fanendo Adi. In the seventh minute, the Timbers added on with a Rodney Wallace goal, set up by Lucas Melano and Darlington Nagbe. Columbus got on the board with an eighteenth minute goal by Kei Kamara, helped along by Federico Higuain. The Crew's Harrison Afful took a yellow card for his foul in the thirty-fourth minute. In the sixty-fifth minute, Alvas Powell of Portland had a yellow card for his foul. In stoppage time, Valeri of the Timbers took a yellow card for time wasting. Mohammed Saeid of Columbus took a yellow card in the same minute for dissent. The game ended with the Timbers winning 2-1, lifting MLS Cup as playoff champions.

2015/16 KHL Season - Day 94

Four games on a light schedule today, beginning with...

Amur Khabarovsk hosting Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk. Vladislav Fokin and Juha Metsola are given the starting nods. Khabarovsk got going in the second period on an Akim Aliu power play goal, powered by the goalie Metsola. Amur added on with an unassisted Niclas Bergfors goal in the third period. Khanty-Mansiysk got on the board with a Pavel Medvedev goal, with a lone assist by Artyom Bulyansky. Yugra tied it on a Konstantin Panov power play goal, helped along by Igor Bortnikov. Khabarovsk won 3-2 in overtime on another Bergfors goal, his second of the game, assisted by Jan Kolar and Aliu. The three stars went to Bergfors, Aliu, and Fokin (44 for 47 in saves).

Down in Vladivostok, Admiral welcomes Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. Jakub Kovar and Ivan Nalimov protect the nets. Vladivostok opened in the first period on a power play goal by Dmitry Lugin, powered by Jonathon Blum and Alexander Kuznetsov. Admiral added on with an unassisted shorthanded goal from Kirill Voronin. Vladivostok extended the lead in the second period as Alexander Gorshkov scored a goal, going in unassisted. Igor Ustinsky replaced Kovar at this time. Yekaterinburg got on the board in the third period with a Petr Koukal goal, passed from Artyom Gareyev. Avtomobilist pulled closer on an Eero Elo power play goal, assisted by Alexei Simakov and Anatoly Golyshev. The final stayed at 3-2, with the three stars going to Gorshkov, Voronin, and Lugin.

Way out west, Spartak Moscow brings in Traktor Chelyabinsk. Vasily Demchenko and Evgeny Ivannikov are in the blue paint. Moscow started in the first period on a Charles Genoway power play goal, powered by Vyacheslav Belov. Chelyabinsk tied it on a Maxim Yakutsenya goal, coming off of Alexander Rybakov and Anton Glinkin in the second period. Spartak retook the lead on an unassisted Konstantin Glazachev goal. Moscow added on with a Yaroslav Dyblenko goal, passed from Glazachev and Lukas Radil. Spartak extended the lead in the third period as Vyacheslav Leshchenko scored, thanks to Casey Wellman and Alexander Vasilyev. Moscow chased Demchenko on a shorthanded Dyblenko goal, set up by Vasilyev. Pavel Francouz finished the game, a 5-1 loss for Traktor. The three stars were Dyblenko, Glazachev, and Vasilyev.

Finally, SKA St. Petersburg hosts Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. Ivan Lisutin and Mikko Koskinen are the goalies. Nizhnekamsk dented the scoreboard in the second period on a Dan Sexton goal, via Alexander Yevseyenkov on the power play. St. Petersburg tied it on a Nikita Gusev goal, courtesy of Evgeny Dadonov and Dmitry Yudin. SKA won 2-1 in overtime with an Ilya Kovalchuk power play goal, powered by Vadim Shipachyov. Ten games today, beginning with...

The Winnipeg Jets hosting the Washington Capitals in the first of two matinees. Braden Holtby and Connor Hellebuyck draw the starts. Winnipeg led off in the first period on an Andrew Ladd power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Bryan Little and Dustin Byfuglien. Washington tied it in the second period on a Nicklas Backstrom power play goal, his ninth of the year, via John Carlson and Andre Burakovsky. The Jets won 2-1 with a Mark Scheifele goal in overtime, his tenth of the campaign, helped along by Jacob Trouba and Blake Wheeler. The three stars were given to Hellebuyck (36 for 37 in saves), Scheifele, and Holtby (34 for 36 in saves).

Out in Los Angeles, the Kings welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marc-Andre Fleury and Jonathan Quick guard the cages. Los Angeles dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Drew Doughty goal, his fourth of the season, coming on the power play from Jake Muzzin and Jeff Carter. The Kings added on with a Christian Ehrhoff goal, via Marian Gaborik. Los Angeles extended the lead as Milan Lucic scored his eighth of the year, thanks to Muzzin. Pittsburgh got on the board with a Chris Kunitz goal, his fourth of the season, passed from Sidney Crosby and Brian Dumoulin. The Kings answered on a Muzzin goal, his second of the year, coming off of Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar. The Penguins shot back on an Olli Maatta goal, his third of the season, assisted by Kunitz and Beau Bennett. Pittsburgh got closer in the third period on a Crosby goal, his sixth of the year, helped along by Domoulin and Kunitz. Los Angeles wrapped it up at 5-3 with a Lucic empty net goal, his second of the game and ninth of the campaign, set up by Doughty. The three stars went to Lucic, Muzzin, and Doughty, while Crosby, Kunitz, and Dumoulin get the honorable mentions.

At the regular times, the Detroit Red Wings bring in the Nashville Predators. Pekka Rinne and Petr Mrazek are the solid goalies. Detroit opened in the first period on a Brad Richards goal, made possible by Tomas Tatar and Dylan Larkin. Nashville tied it in the second period with a Shea Weber power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Roman Josi and Filip Forsberg. The Predators took the lead on a Viktor Arvidsson goal, his second of the year, via Ryan Ellis and Calle Jarnkrok. Nashville added on with another Weber goal, his second of the game and eighth of the season, going in unassisted on the power play. The Red Wings got one back on a Tatar power play goal, his tenth of the year, guided in by Mike Green and Pavel Datsyuk. The Predators responded with a Weber goal, completing his hat trick with his ninth of the season, a power play goal passed from Josi and Forsberg. Detroit pulled back with a Larkin goal, his eleventh of the year, with a lone helper by Jonathan Ericsson. The Red Wings tied it on a Justin Abdelkader power play goal, his ninth of the season, fueled by Gustav Nyquist and Henrik Zetterberg. Detroit won 5-4 with a Nyquist goal in overtime, his tenth of the year, set up by Niklas Kronwall. The three stars went to Weber, Nyquist, and Larkin, while Tatar, Josi, and Forsberg get the honorable mentions.

South to Raleigh, with the Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Mike Condon and Cam Ward are the sub-par goalies. Montreal began in the first period with a David Carr goal, assisted by Christian Thomas and Brian Flynn. Carolina tied it on a Jeff Skinner goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Jordan Staal and Andrej Nestrasil. The Canadiens took the lead back in the second period with a Sven Andrighetto goal, his third of the year, passed from Jeff Petry and Alex Galchenyuk. The Hurricanes tied it again on a Joakim Nordstrom goal, guided in by Nestrasil and Ron Hainsey. Carolina took the lead in the third period with a Skinner power play goal, his second of the game and seventh of the campaign, powered by Brett Pesce and John-Michael Liles. The final held at 3-2, with the three stars going to Skinner, Nestrasil, and Ward (36 for 38 in saves).

North to Ottawa, as the Senators welcome the New York Islanders. Jaroslav Halak and Craig Anderson are the veteran goalies. New York struck first in the first period on a Matt Martin goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. The Islanders added on with a Josh Bailey power play goal in the third period, his sixth of the year, powered by Mikhail Grabovski and Anders Lee. Ottawa got on the board with a Mark Stone goal, his seventh of the season, passed from Erik Karlsson. The Senators tied it on a Mike Hoffman goal, his fourteenth of the year, courtesy of Mika Zibanejad and Karlsson. Ottawa won 3-2 in overtime on a Karlsson goal, his sixth of the campaign, made possible by Bobby Ryan. The three stars belonged to Karlsson, Hoffman, and Stone.

Back stateside, the St. Louis Blues bring in the Toronto Maple Leafs. Garret Sparks and Jake Allen are set to start in goal. St. Louis started in the first period on a Vladimir Tarasenko goal, his fifteenth of the season, passed from Paul Stastny and Alexander Steen. Toronto tied it on a Nazem Kadri goal, his fourth of the year, assisted by Leo Komarov and Roman Polak. The Maple Leafs took the lead in the second period as Brad Boyes scored his second of the season, thanks to Polak and Shawn Matthias. Toronto added on with a P.A. Parenteau goal, his seventh of the year, made possible by Tyler Bozak and Peter Holland. The Maple Leafs extended the lead in the third period on a Kadri goal, his second of the game and fifth of the campaign, via Morgan Rielly and Komarov. This made it 4-1, the final, with the three stars going to Kadri, Komarov, and Sparks (27 for 28 in saves), while Polak gets an honorable mention.

Back east, the Philadelphia Flyers host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky and Steve Mason are the goalie who used to play for each other's team. Columbus was first to score in the first period on a Nick Foligno goal, his third of the season, assisted by Alexander Wennberg and Scott Hartnell. The Blue Jackets added on with an unassisted Jack Johnson goal, his third of the year. Philadelphia got on the board with a Michael Raffl goal in the second period, his second of the season, coming off of Brayden Schenn and Shayne Gostisbehere. Columbus responded on a Foligno goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, fueled by Hartnell and the goalie Bobrovsky. The Blue Jackets extended the lead as Hartnell scored a power play goal, his tenth of the campaign, powered by Wennberg and Foligno. This produced the eventual 4-1 final, with the three stars going to Foligno, Hartnell, and Bobrovsky (27 for 28 in saves), while Wennberg gets an honorable mention.

Westward to Minnesota, with the Wild welcoming the Colorado Avalanche. Semyon Varlamov and Devan Dubnyk are the goalies, but an injury to Dubnyk midway through the game sent Darcy Kuemper to the Wild crease. Minnesota got going in the second period on a Matt Dumba goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Mikael Granlund and Zach Parise. The Wild added on in the third period on a Justin Fontaine goal, his second of the year, via Marco Scandella. Minnesota iced it at 3-0 with a Jason Pominville empty net goal, his third of the campaign, set up by Nino Niederreiter and Jonas Brodin. The three stars went to Dumba, Fontaine, and Varlamov (41 for 43 in saves).

Further to the west, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Boston Bruins. Tuukka Rask faces a lesser foe in Jacob Markstrom in goal. Boston got started in the first period on a Brad Marchand goal, his thirteenth of the season, assisted by Patrice Bergeron and Joe Morrow. The Bruins added on with a Torey Krug goal, his third of the year, via Kevan Miller and David Krejci. Boston extended the lead as Landon Ferraro scored his second of the season in the second period, thanks to Zdeno Chara. The Bruins padded the lead in the third period on a Tyler Randell goal, his fourth of the year, courtesy of Ferrardo and Zac Rinaldo. The three stars went to Ferraro, Marchand, and Rask (17 save shutout).

Finally, the San Jose Sharks host the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ben Bishop and Alex Stalock are the young goalies. Tampa Bay drew first blood in the first period on a Nikita Kucherov goal, his seventh of the season, passed from Victor Hedman. The Lightning added on with an Erik Condra goal, his third of the year, courtesy of Andrej Sustr and J.T. Brown. San Jose got on the board in the second period with a Matt Tennyson power play goal, powered by Justin Braun and Tomas Hertl. Tampa Bay replied on a Kucherov power play goal, his second of the game and eighth of the season, assisted by Steven Stamkos. The Lightning extended the lead in the third period as Brian Boyle scored his sixth of the year, with the help of Brown. The Sharks got one back on a Joel Ward power play goal, his tenth of the season, coming off of Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski. Bishop got hurt about three minutes later, and was replaced by Andrei Vasilevskiy. San Jose got closer on a Burns goal, his tenth of the year, going in unassisted on the power play. This only made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars handed to Kucherov, Burns, and Brown.
