NHL December 6th, 2014

Twelve games throughout the day, led by three matinees. We begin in...

New York, as the Islanders host the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Jaroslav Halak make the starts. New York began in the first period on a Frans Nielsen power play goal, his sixth of the season, powered by Kyle Okposo and Nick Leddy. The Islanders added on with a Ryan Strome goal, his sixth of the year, going in unassisted. New York extended the lead as Michael Grabner scored, thanks to Matt Donovan and Leddy. Martin Brodeur relieved Allen for the second period. St. Louis got on the board with a Paul Stastny power play goal, his fourth of the campaign, via Kevin Shattenkirk and David Backes. The Blues pulled closer with a Patrik Berglund goal, his third of the season, fueled by Chris Butler and Alex Pietrangelo. St. Louis tied it on a Shattenkirk power play goal, his third of the year, guided in by T.J. Oshie and Joakim Lindstrom. The Islanders retook the lead with a John Tavares goal, his eleventh of the campaign, helped along by Okposo and Nielsen on the power play. The Blues tied it again in the third period with an Oshie power play goal, his third of the season, assisted by Shattenkirk and Lindstrom. St. Louis took the lead as Stastny scored his second of the game and fifth of the year, with the help of Lindstrom, who got a sock trick, and Barret Jackman. Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins welcome the Ottawa Senators. Craig Anderson and Marc-Andre Fleury are the goalies. Pittsburgh struck first in the first period on an unassisted Evgeni Malkin goal, his thirteenth of the season. Ottawa got on the board in the second period with a David Legwand power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Milan Michalek and Erik Karlsson. The Senators took the lead on a Mika Zibanejad goal, his fifth of the campaign, guided in by Bobby Ryan and Marc Methot. The Penguins tied it on a Malkin goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the season, passed from Brandon Sutter and Olli Maatta on the power play. Pittsburgh took the lead with a Christian Ehrhoff goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Sidney Crosby and Craig Adams. This held up for a 3-2 win, with the three stars given to Malkin, Fleury (27 for 29 in saves), and Ehrhoff.

Way out in Los Angeles, the Kings bring in the Philadelphia Flyers for the last matinee. Steve Mason and Jonathan Quick are in the blue paint. Philadelphia was first to score in the first period with a Claude Giroux goal, his eighth of the season, guided in by Mark Streit and Nicklas Grossmann. The Flyers added on in the second period with a Wayne Simmonds power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Sean Couturier and Andrew MacDonald. Los Angeles got on the board in the third period with a Justin Williams goal, his sixth of the campaign, coming off of Jarret Stoll and Robyn Regehr. This made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars going to Mason (37 for 38 in saves), Simmonds, and Giroux.

Back northeast to Detroit, where the Red Wings host the New York Rangers at a normal time. Cam Talbot is mismatched with Jimmy Howard in goal. New York lead off with a Kevin Klein goal in the first period, his fifth of the season, via Kevin Hayes and Carl Hagelin. The Rangers added on with a Rick Nash goal, his seventeenth of the year, with a lone assist by Derick Brassard. Detroit got on the board in the second period as Riley Sheahan scored his sixth of the campaign, thanks to Stephen Weiss and Johan Franzen. The Red Wings tied it on a Luke Glendening goal, his third of the season, assisted by Joakim Andersson and Drew Miller. Detroit took the lead in the third period on Darren Helm's fifth of the year, fueled by Tomas Tatar and Danny DeKeyser. They went on to win 3-2, with the three stars being Helm, Glendening, and Sheahan.

Down in Dallas, the Stars welcome the Montreal Canadiens. Carey Price and Kari Lehtonen guard the cages. Dallas opened in the first period with a Cody Eakin power play goal, his sixth of the season, powered by Tyler Seguin and Alex Goligoski. The Stars added on in the second period with Seguin's twentieth of the year, a power play goal made possible by Jamie Benn and Trevor Daley. Dallas extended the lead with Seguin's second of the game and twenty-first of the season, passed from Benn. Montreal got on the board in the third period with a Sven Andrighetto goal, courtesy of Tomas Plekanec and Jiri Sekac. The Stars finished it at 4-1 with an unassisted empty net goal by Ryan Garbutt, his fifth of the year. The three stars went to Seguin, Benn, and Lehtonen (16 for 17 in saves).

Northeast to New Jersey, where the Devils bring in the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Cory Schneider are the young goalies. Washington started in the first period with a Karl Alzner goal, passed from Tom Wilson. New Jersey tied it on a Patrik Elias goal, his third of the season, fueled by Dainius Zubrus and Andy Greene. The Capitals took the lead back in the second period on a Jay Beagle goal, his fourth of the year, made possible by John Carlson and Michael Latta. Washington added on with an Evgeny Kuznetsov power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Brooks Laich and Joel Ward. The Capitals iced it at 4-1 with a Laich empty net goal in the third period, his second of the year, set up by Ward and Eric Fehr. The three stars belonged to Holtby (33 for 34 in saves), Laich, and Ward.

South to Tampa Bay, where the Lightning host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky and Ben Bishop protect the nets. Columbus struck first in the first period on a Boone Jenner goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Matt Calvert. The Blue Jackets added on with the fifth of the year by David Savard, a power play goal powered by Jack Johnson and Cam Atkinson. Columbus extended the lead in the third period on a Jack Skille goal, his fourth of the season, passed from Michael Chaput and Scott Hartnell. Tampa Bay got on the board with an Ondrej Palat goal, his eighth of the year, assisted by Nikita Kucherov and Jonathan Drouin. This only made it 3-1, the final, with the three stars going to Bobrovsky (33 for 34 in saves), Savard, and Skille.

North to Toronto, where the Maple Leafs welcome the Vancouver Canucks. Ryan Miller and Jonathan Bernier receive the starting nods. Toronto was first to score in the first period on a Jake Gardiner goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. The Maple Leafs added on with a Richard Panik goal, his fifth of the year, made possible by Trevor Smith and David Booth. Toronto extended the lead in the second period on a Peter Holland goal, his sixth of the campaign, an unassisted goal. The Maple Leafs chased Miller with a Joffrey Lupul goal, his sixth of the season, guided in by Holland and David Clarkson. Eddie Lack came on in relief. Vancouver got on the board with a Daniel Sedin goal, his seventh of the year, fueled by Henrik Sedin and Radim Vrbata. The Canucks pulled closer in the third period with a Christopher Tanev goal, with assists provided by Linden Vey and Brad Richardson. Toronto wrapped it up at 5-2 with an empty net goal by Clarkson, his eighth of the campaign, set up by Lupul. Back in Florida, the Panthers bring in the Buffalo Sabres. Michal Neuvirth and Roberto Luongo are in the creases. Florida led off in the first period with a Brad Boyes goal, his fifth of the season, guided in by Jussi Jokinen and Aaron Ekblad. Buffalo tied it with a Drew Stafford goal in the second period, his fifth of the year, made possible by Cody Hodgson and Josh Gorges. The Panthers took the lead on a Tomas Kopecky goal, assisted by Ekblad and Nick Bjugstad. The Sabres tied it on a Brian Gionta goal, his third of the season, passed from Mike Weber and Torrey Mitchell. Florida retook the lead as Bjugstad scored his eleventh of the year, thanks to Ekblad, who got a sock trick, and Tomas Fleischmann. This held up for a 3-2 win, with the three stars given to Ekblad, Bjugstad, and Kopecky.

Northwest to Nashville, where the Predators host the Chicago Blackhawks. Scott Darling and Pekka Rinne are between the pipes. Chicago opened in the first period on a Brandon Saad goal, his sixth of the season, passed from Duncan Keith. The Blackhawks added on in the second period with a Marian Hossa goal, his fourth of the year, guided in by Saad and Brent Seabrook. Nashville got on the board in the third period with a Colin Wilson goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Victor Bartley and Mike Fisher. Chicago iced it at 3-1 with a Hossa empty net goal, his second of the game and fifth of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars went to Hossa, Darling (32 for 33 in saves), and Saad.

Out west, the Arizona Coyotes welcome the Boston Bruins. Tuukka Rask faces a lesser foe in Devan Dubnyk in goal. Boston started in the first period with a Brad Marchand goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Reilly Smith and Dougie Hamilton. The Bruins added on with an unassisted goal by Kevan Miller. Arizona got one back with a Joe Vitale goal, his third of the year, passed from Shane Doan and Michael Stone. Boston replied in the second period on a Simon Gagne goal, his third of the season, made possible by Daniel Paille. The Bruins chased Dubnyk with Marchand's second of the game and eighth of the year, courtesy of Smith and Hamilton. Mike Smith came on in relief. Boston extended the lead as Loui Eriksson scored a power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Patrice Bergeron and Torey Krug. The Coyotes got one back in the third period with a Mikkel Boedker power play goal, his ninth of the year, fueled by Antoine Vermette and Keith Yandle. This made it 5-2, the final, with the three stars being Marchand, Smith, and Hamilton.

Finally, the Calgary Flames bring in the San Jose Sharks. Antti Niemi and Karri Ramo are the Finnish goalies. Calgary began in the first period with a Mark Giordano goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by David Jones and Curtis Glencross. San Jose tied it in the second period on a Justin Braun goal, via Tommy Wingels. The Sharks took the lead with a Logan Couture goal, his eleventh of the year, courtesy of John Scott and Braun. The Flames retied it on a Johnny Gaudreau goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Jiri Hudler and Matt Stajan. San Jose took the lead with a third period Patrick Marleau goal, his seventh of the year, coming off of Couture and Wingels. This stood up for a 3-2 win, with the three stars being Couture, Marleau, and Wingels.

One game today, as Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hosts CSKA Moscow. Stanislav Galimov faces a lesser foe in Vitaly Kolesnik in goal. Moscow struck first in the first period on an unassisted Igor Grigorenko goal. CSKA added on with a shorthanded and unassisted Andrei Stas goal. Moscow extended the lead in the second period with a Jan Mursak power play goal, powered by Stephane Da Costa. CSKA padded the lead in the third period on Grigorenko's second of the game, via Damir Zhafyarov. The three stars of the 4-0 game were Grigorenko, Galimov (20 save shutout), and Stas.

Winnipeg, where the Jets host the Colorado Avalanche. Semyon Varlamov and Michael Hutchinson are in the blue paint. Winnipeg led off in the first period with a Chris Thorburn goal, fueled by Paul Postma and Adam Pardy. Colorado tied it on a Jarome Iginla goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Gabriel Landeskog. The Jets took the lead on a Bryan Little goal, his ninth of the year, via Blake Wheeler. Winnipeg added on in the second period with an Andrew Ladd goal, his ninth of the season, courtesy of Ben Chiarot and Little. The Jets extended the lead on Little's second of the game and tenth of the year in the third period, assisted by Wheeler. Winnipeg padded the lead when Little finished his hat trick on his eleventh of the season, passed from Ladd and Wheeler, the latter getting a sock trick. The Avalanche got one back with an Iginla power play goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year, powered by Zach Redmond and Landeskog. The Jets finished it at 6-2 with an unassisted Dustin Byfuglien goal, his sixth of the campaign. The three stars went to Little, Iginla, and Wheeler, while Ladd and Landeskog get the honorable mentions.

Down in Minnesota, the Wild welcome the Anaheim Ducks. Frederik Andersen and Darcy Kuemper are the young goalies. Anaheim began in the first period with a Ryan Kesler goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Kyle Palmieri and Cam Fowler. The Ducks added on as Jakob Silfverberg scored his second of the year, thanks to Andrew Cogliano and Devante Smith-Pelly. Anaheim extended the lead in the second period on Kesler's second of the game and eighth of the season, passed from Hampus Lindholm and Tim Jackman. Minnesota got on the board with a Mikko Koivu power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Mikael Granlund and Marco Scandella. The Wild pulled closer with a power play goal by Zach Parise, his tenth of the season, made possible by Granlund and Jonas Brodin. Khanty-Mansiysk, as Yugra hosts Ak Bars Kazan. Anders Nilsson and Barry Brust are the goalies. Kazan struck first in the first period on an Evgeny Medvedev goal, courtesy of Fyodor Malykhin and Oscar Moller. Khanty-Mansiysk tied it in the second period as Ilari Melart scored, thanks to Vitaly Sitnikov and Dmitry Ryabykin. Yugra took the lead on an Igor Bortnikov goal, passed from Danil Romantsev and Ilya Korenev. Ak Bars tied it on a power play goal by Justin Azevedo, powered by Konstantin Korneyev. Khanty-Mansiysk took the lead back in the third period on a Nikita Gusev goal, with a lone assist by Igor Magogin. Kazan tied it with a Kirill Petrov power play goal, assisted by Korneyev and Azevedo. In the shootout, Yugra won with goals by Lukas Kasper and Gusev to top Moller's tally for a 4-3 win. Carolina tied it on a third period goal by Alexander Semin coming off of Jay Harrison and John-Michael Liles. The Capitals retook the lead on an Eric Fehr goal, his fourth of the year, going in unassisted. This made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars given to Holtby (29 for 30 in saves), Fehr, and Beagle.

Up in Pittsburgh, the Penguins welcome the Vancouver Canucks. Backups Eddie Lack and Thomas Greiss are set to start. Vancouver led off in the first period on a Brad Richardson goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Shawn Matthias. The Canucks added on in the second period as Matthias scored his sixth of the year, thanks to Richardson and Yannick Weber. Vancouver extended the lead on a shorthanded Richardson goal, his second of the game and sixth of the season, set up by Jannik Hansen. Detroit added on with a Datsyuk power play goal, his eleventh of the season, powered by Weiss and Riley Sheahan. Down to Florida again, where the Panthers host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky and Roberto Luongo receive the starting nods. Columbus started in the first period on a Nick Foligno goal, his eleventh of the season, coming off of Scott Hartnell and Dalton Prout. The Blue Jackets added on with a Cam Atkinson goal, his eighth of the year, guided in by Kerby Rychel and Prout. Columbus extended the lead in the second period as Boone Jenner scored his third of the season, thanks to Rychel and Atkinson. Florida got on the board with a Tomas Fleischmann goal, his second of the year, passed from Jonathan Huberdeau and Nick Bjugstad. The Panthers pulled closer on a Bjugstad goal, his ninth of the season, assisted by Fleischmann and Aaron Ekblad. Florida tied it with a Bjugstad power play goal, his second of the game and tenth of the year, powered by Huberdeau and Erik Gudbranson. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Ryan Johansen's tally gave the Blue Jackets a 4-3 win. Northwest to Nashville, where the Predators welcome the St. Louis Blues. Martin Brodeur and Pekka Rinne draw the starts. St. Louis began in the first period on a Vladimir Tarasenko goal, his fifteenth of the season, with a lone assist by Alexander Steen.  Nashville tied it on a Filip Forsberg goal, his eleventh of the year, guided in by Mike Ribeiro. The Predators took the lead on an Eric Nystrom goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Ribeiro and Mike Fisher. Nashville added on with a Ribeiro goal, his eighth of the year, assisted by James Neal and Forsberg. The Blues got one back with a Tarasenko goal, his second of the game and sixteenth of the season, fueled by Carl Gunnarsson and Paul Stastny. The Predators answered in the third period with a Colin Wilson goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Roman Josi and Craig Smith. Moving to Calgary, where the Flames bring in the Colorado Avalanche. Semyon Varlamov and Karri Ramo are the masked men. Calgary got going in the second period on a Dennis Wideman power play goal, his ninth of the season, powered by Johnny Gaudreau and Kris Russell. Colorado tied it with a Matt Duchene goal, his ninth of the year, assisted by Ryan O'Reilly. The Avalanche took the lead on a Nick Holden goal, his second of the season, fueled by Zach Redmond and Michael Sgarbossa. The Flames tied it in the third period with a Curtis Glencross goal, his fifth of the year, coming off of David Jones and Sean Monahan. Colorado retook the lead on an Alex Tanguay goal, his ninth of the season, made possible by O'Reilly and Tyson Barrie. Calgary tied it with Wideman's second of the game and tenth of the year, courtesy of Russell and Glencross. The Flames won 4-3 in overtime with a Monahan goal, his tenth of the campaign, set up by Mark Giordano and Russell, the latter getting a sock trick. The three stars went to Monahan, Wideman, and Russell, while Glencross and O'Reilly get the honorable mentions.

Down in Arizona, the Coyotes host the Los Angeles Kings. Martin Jones and Mike Smith are in the blue paint. Los Angeles led off in the first period with a Dustin Brown goal, his fifth of the season, going in unassisted. The Kings added on with a Brown goal in the second period, his second of the game and sixth of the year, assisted by Kyle Clifford and Jarret Stoll. Los Angeles extended the lead as Stoll scored his third of the season, a power play goal, coming off of Alec Martinez and Brown. Smith was pulled for Devan Dubnyk at this time. The Kings padded the lead in the third period on a power play goal by Martinez, his third of the year, powered by Justin Williams and Brayden McNabb. This produced the 4-0 final, with the three stars going to Brown, Jones (26 save shutout), and Martinez, while Stoll gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks host the Boston Bruins. Tuukka Rask and Antti Niemi are the Finnish goalies. Boston struck first in the first period on a Reilly Smith goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. The Bruins added on with a Gregory Campbell goal, his third of the year, guided in by Daniel Paille and Dennis Seidenberg. San Jose got on the board in the second period with a Tommy Wingels goal, his eighth of the season, passed from Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Patrick Marleau. The Sharks tied it on a Tyler Kennedy goal, his second of the year, made possible by James Sheppard and Andrew Desjardins. San Jose took the lead with a Wingels power play goal, his second of the game and ninth of the season, powered by Matt Irwin and Tomas Hertl. Boston tied it on a Smith goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year, coming off of Carl Soderberg and Milan Lucic. Avangard added on with a Vladimir Sobotka third period goal, passed from Perezhogin and Sergei Kalinin. The final stood at 2-0, with the three stars going to Barulin (28 save shutout), Perezhogin, and Sobotka.

Four games today, beginning in...

Minnesota, as the Wild host the Montreal Canadiens. Carey Price and Darcy Kuemper are the goalies. The Wild added on in the second period with a Jason Pominville goal, his fifth of the year, made possible by Christian Folin and Zach Parise. Montreal got on the board in the third period with an Alex Galchenyuk goal, his sixth of the campaign, coming off of David Desharnais and P.K. Subban. This made it a 2-1 final, with the three stars going to Kuemper (18 for 19 in saves), Pominville, and Zucker.

Down in Chicago, the Blackhawks welcome the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Antti Raanta compose the unexpected goalie matchup. Chicago led off in the first period with a Marcus Kruger goal, his fourth of the season, fueled by Brandon Saad. St. Louis tied it on an Ian Cole goal, his second of the year, passed from Patrik Berglund and Steve Ott. The Blackhawks took the lead back in the third period on a Kris Versteeg goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith. Chicago added on with a Patrick Kane goal, his eleventh of the year, coming off of Versteeg and Brad Richards. The Blackhawks extended the lead on Kane's second of the game and twelfth of the campaign, helped along by Versteeg and David Rundblad. This produced the 4-1 final, with the three stars awarded to Kane, Versteeg, and Raanta (40 for 41 in saves).

Up in Winnipeg, the Jets bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Ben Scrivens and Ondrej Pavelec are the oft-criticized goalies. Winnipeg struck first in the first period on a Jacob Trouba goal, his third of the season, guided in by Mathieu Perreault and Dustin Byfuglien. Edmonton tied it on a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins goal, his sixth of the year, with assists provided by Justin Schultz and Taylor Hall. The Oilers took the lead in the third period with a David Perron goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Boyd Gordon and Teddy Purcell. The Jets tied it on a Byfuglien goal, his fifth of the year, passed from Mark Stuart and Trouba. Winnipeg won 3-2 in overtime with a Perreault goal, his third of the campaign, assisted by Trouba and Evander Kane. The three stars went to Perreault, Trouba, and Byfuglien.

Finally, the Anaheim Ducks host the Philadelphia Flyers. Steve Mason and Frederik Andersen are in the creases. Philadelphia got going in the second period on a Michael Raffl goal, his seventh of the season, made possible by Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. Anaheim tied it on a Cam Fowler goal, his third of the year, a shorthanded goal set up by Jakob Silfverberg and the goalie Andersen. The Flyers took the lead back on a Wayne Simmonds power play goal, his ninth of the season, powered by Brayden Schenn and Mark Streit. Philadelphia added on with an R.J. Anaheim tied it on a Sami Vatanen goal, his seventh of the year, courtesy of Patrick Maroon. The Ducks gained the lead in the third period on a Maroon power play goal, his second of the season, fueled by Perry and Getzlaf. The Flyers retied it on a Simmonds goal, his second of the game and tenth of the year, driven in by Scott Laughton and Andrew MacDonald. Premier League Week 14

This week's games are in the middle of the week, with six on Tuesday and four on Wednesday. We begin with...

Burnley hosting Newcastle United. Robert Elliot and Tom Heaton are the goalies. In the tenth minute, Newcastle United's Michael Williamson took a yellow card for his foul. Burnley began in the thirty-fourth minute with a George Boyd goal, coming off of a Danny Ings headed pass. In the forty-eighth minute, Newcastle United tied it on a Papiss Demba Cisse goal, courtesy of a Daryl Janmaat cross. Burnley's Michael Keane received a yellow card in the fifty-sixth minute. In the eightieth minute, Newcastle United had a yellow card go to Cheick Tiote for a hand ball. Burnley took another yellow card for Scott Arfield's foul in stoppage time. The final score was 1-1.

Next up, Leicester City welcomes Liverpool. Simon Mignolet and Kasper Schmeichel make the starts. Mignolet's day started bad, as he surrendered an own goal in the twenty-second minute to give Leicester City the early advantage. Liverpool tied it in the twenty-sixth minute on an Adam Lallana goal, after a set piece situation. Lallana later received a yellow card in the thirty-eighth minute. Liverpool took the lead in the fifty-fourth minute on a Steven Gerrard goal. In the sixty-third minute, Leicester City went down to ten men when Wes Morgan received a straight red card. Liverpool's Gerrard was booked on a yellow card in the sixty-fifth minute. Leicester City saw a yellow card go to Jeffrey Schlupp in the seventy-fifth minute. Liverpool extended their lead in the eighty-third minute on a Jordan Henderson goal, set up by Raheem Sterling. This made it 3-1, the final.

Over in Manchester, United brings in Stoke City. Asmir Begovic and David de Gea are the gloved men. Manchester United opened in the twenty-first minute on a Marouane Fellaini header goal, coming off of an Ander Herrera cross. Stoke City tied it in the thirty-ninth minute with a Steven N'Zonzi goal. Stoke City's Phil Bardsley took a yellow card for his forty-first minute foul. In the fifty-eighth minute, Erik Pieters of Stoke City was given a yellow card, setting up Manchester United's go ahead goal on a free kick from Juan Mata. In the sixtieth minute, Herrera took a yellow card. Stoke City's Stephen Ireland was given a yellow card in the seventy-second minute for a foul. In stoppage time, Ashley Young of Manchester United took a yellow card for a foul. The final favored Manchester United 2-1.

Out to Wales, where Swansea City hosts the Queens Park Rangers. Robert Green and Lukasz Fabianski are in the six-yard boxes. Joey Barton of QPR took the first yellow card in the thirty-sixth minute for a foul. In the fifty-seventh minute, Leroy Fer of QPR had a yellow card. Swansea City had a pair of yellow cards go to Neil Taylor in the seventy-first minute and Leon Britton in the seventy-sixth minute, both for fouls. In the seventy-eighth minute, Ki Sung-Yeung put Swansea City on the board with a goal from a difficult angle, set up by Wilfried Bony. Swansea City added on in the eighty-third minute with a Wayne Routledge goal, via Nathan Dyer. They held on for a 2-0 win.

Back to London, where Crystal Palace welcomes Aston Villa. Brad Guzan and Julian Speroni guard the woodwork. Aston Villa struck first in the thirty-second minute on a Christian Benteke goal. Crystal Palace had two yellow cards in the second half, going to Frazier Campbell in the fifty-seventh minute and Yannick Bolasie in the eighty-first minute, both for fouls. Aston Villa had the next two yellow cards, going to Ciaran Clark in the eighty-second minute for a foul and Andreas Weimann in stoppage time for a hand ball. The final stood at 1-0 for Aston Villa.

Closing out Tuesday, West Bromwich Albion brings in West Ham United. Adrian and Ben Foster man the nets. West Brom struck first in the tenth minute on a Craig Dawson headed goal, set up by Graham Dorrans with a cross after a set piece. In the eighteenth minute, West Ham's James Tomkins took a yellow card. West Brom saw a yellow card go to Chris Brunt in the thirty-fourth minute for his foul. West Ham tied the game on a Kevin Nolan header from close range following a set piece in the thirty-fifth minute. In first half stoppage time, Tomkins put West Ham ahead with his close range header goal, assisted by Stewart Downing's cross after a corner kick. West Brom took a yellow card for a Stephane Sessegnon foul in the seventieth minute. West Ham held on for a 2-1 win.

On Wednesday, Arsenal hosts Southampton. Fraser Forster faces a lesser foe in Emiliano Martinez in goal. Southampton's Toby Alderweireld took the first yellow card of the game in the forty-third minute for a foul. Southampton had a yellow card go to Victor Wanyama in the seventy-sixth minute. Arsenal started the scoring with an eighty-ninth minute goal by Alexis Sanchez, passed from Aaron Ramsey. They cruised to a 1-0 win.

Close by, Chelsea welcomes Tottenham Hotspur. Hugo Lloris and Thibaut Courtois guard the nets. Chelsea began in the nineteenth minute on an Eden Hazard goal, fueled by Didier Drogba. Chelsea added on with a Drogba goal in the twenty-second minute, passed from Oscar on a through ball. The teams exchanged yellow cards in the second half, as Tottenham Hotspur took one in the forty-ninth minute for a Vlad Chiriches foul, followed by a fiftieth minute Nemanja Matic yellow card shown to Chelsea, also for a foul. Chelsea extended their lead in the seventy-third minute on a Loic Remy goal, courtesy of Cesar Azpilicueta with the through ball. Chelsea went on to win 3-0.

Continuing to Everton bringing in Hull City. Allan McGregor and Tim Howard receive the starting nods. Hull City took a yellow card in the twenty-fourth minute for a foul by Michael Dawson. Everton led off with a thirty-fourth minute Romelu Lukaku goal, passed from Kevin Mirallas. Hull City tied it in the fifty-ninth minute on a Sone Aluko goal, courtesy of Nikica Jelavic. Everton's Leighton Baines was shown a yellow card in the seventy-eighth minute for a foul. The final held at 1-1.

Finally, Sunderland hosts Manchester City. Joe Hart and Costel Pantilimon are in the six-yard boxes. Sunderland opened in the nineteenth minute on a Connor Wickham goal. Manchester City tied it twenty-first minute with a Sergio Aguero goal, guided in by Stevan Jovetic. In the thirty-ninth minute, Jovetic put Manchester City ahead, with the help of Aguero. Manchester City added on in the fifty-fifth minute on a Pablo Zabaleta goal, passed from Samir Nasri on a through ball. MLS Western Conference Finals: Seattle Sounders FC VS. Los Angeles Galaxy

This is the Western Conference Finals between the Seattle Sounders FC and the Los Angeles Galaxy. Game 1 in Los Angeles has Stefan Frei of Seattle opposing Jaime Penedo of Los Angeles in goal. Seattle's DeAndre Yedlin had the first yellow card of the game in the third minute for a foul. Los Angeles took a yellow card in the eighth minute after an A.J. DeLaGarza foul. The Galaxy had another yellow card for a thirty-fifth minute foul by Stefan Ishizaki. The Sounders took a yellow card in the thirty-seventh minute on a foul by Zach Scott. Los Angeles led off with a Marcelo Sarvas goal in the fifty-second minute, set up by DeLaGarza. They made this stand for a 1-0 win, and the man of the match was Sarvas himself for the goal.

The same goalies took the field in Seattle. Seattle began with a Brad Evans goal in the twenty-sixth minute. In the thirty-second minute, the Sounders added on with a Clint Dempsey goal. Los Angeles took a yellow card in the thirty-fifth minute for a Marcelo Sarvas foul. The Galaxy got one back with a fifty-fourth minute Juninho goal, guided in by Omar Gonzalez and Landon Donovan. Los Angeles took another yellow card in stoppage time for time wasting by Jaime Penedo. The final favored the Sounders 2-1, with the man of the match being Dempsey. The Galaxy took the series 2-2 on road goals and play the New England Revolution in MLS Cup.

Premier League Week 13

The Premier League season is heating up. There are ten games this weekend, and then another ten in the middle of the week. We begin with...

West Bromwich Albion hosting Arsenal. Damian Martinez and Ben Foster are in goal. In the fifty-third minute, Graham Dorrans of West Brom took a yellow card for his foul. Arsenal opened in the sixtieth minute on a Danny Welbeck goal, assisted by Santiago Cazorla. West Brom had another yellow card in the eighty-fourth minute on a foul by Cristian Gamboa. Arsenal saw a booking on a yellow card for a stoppage time foul by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The final favored Arsenal 1-0.

Next up, Burnley welcomes Aston Villa. Brad Guzan and Tom Heaton protect the nets. At the twenty-eight minute mark, Burnley had a yellow card for a Michael Kightly foul. Burnley had another yellow card in the thirty-eighth minute for a foul by Dean Marney. Aston Villa got going later that minute with a Joe Cole goal, passed from Andreas Weimann. Aston Villa's Tom Cleverley took a yellow card for his forty-first minute foul. Burnley saw a yellow card go to Alan Hutton in the forty-fifth minute for a foul. Aston Villa had a pair of yellow cards in the second half, going in the eighty-fifth and eighty-sixth minutes to Jores Okore and Ciaran Clark, leading to an eighty-sixth minute penalty kick goal by Danny Ings to tie the game for Burnley. The final was 1-1.

Over to Liverpool bringing in Stoke City. Asmir Begovic and Simon Mignolet are the keepers. In the thirty-eighth minute, Marc Wilson of Stoke City took a yellow card for his foul. Stoke City took two more yellow cards in the second half, going to Geoff Cameron in the fifty-third minute and Ryan Shawcross in the fifty-eighth minute. Liverpool struck first with an eighty-fifth minute Glen Johnson close-range header goal. This held for a 1-0 win.

In Manchester, United hosts Hull City. Allan McGregor and David de Gea are in the six-yard boxes. Chris Smalling put Manchester United on the board in the sixteenth minute with his goal after a corner kick. Manchester United added on in the forty-second minute with a Wayne Rooney goal, passed from Robin van Persie. In the forty-seventh minute Marouane Fellaini took a yellow card for Manchester City for his foul. Hull City took yellow cards in the fifty-fourth minute for a James Chester foul and the sixty-fifth minute for a foul by Michael Dawson. Manchester United extended their lead with a van Persie goal in the sixty-sixth minute, made possible by Ander Herrera. Manchester United had a yellow card given to Marcos Rojo in the eighty-ninth minute for a foul. The final was 3-0 for Manchester United.

Down in London, the Queens Park Rangers welcome Leicester City. Kasper Schmeichel and Robert Green are the goalies. Leicester City started in the fourth minute on an Esteban Cambiasso goal, passed from Leonardo Ulloa. QPR tied it with an own goal in the thirty-seventh minute by Wes Morgan. QPR took a yellow card in the forty-fourth minute on a Yun Suk-Young foul. QPR took the lead on a forty-fifth minute goal by Leroy Fer from close range. Leicester City tied it in the sixty-seventh minute on a Jeffrey Schlupp goal. QPR took the lead back in the seventy-third minute on a close range header goal by Charlie Austin. Austin received a yellow card in the seventy-seventh minute for a foul for QPR. Leicester City had a yellow card in stoppage time for David Nugent's foul. QPR took another yellow card for time wasting by Green in stoppage time. Leicester City took another booking on a yellow card for Marc Albrighton's offense. QPR held on for a 3-2 win.

Out in Wales, Swansea City brings in Crystal Palace. Julian Speroni and Lukasz Fabianski are given the starting nods. Swansea City began in the fifteenth minute on a Wilfried Bony goal, assisted by Gylfi Sigurdsson. Crystal Palace tied it in the twenty-fifth minute on a Mile Jedinak penalty kick goal. Crystal Palace had a yellow card in the fortieth minute for a Marouane Chamakh foul. In the sixty-ninth minute, Crystal Palace's James McArthur was given a yellow card for his foul. The final was 1-1.

Back in England, West Ham United hosts Newcastle United. Robert Elliott and Adrian guard the woodwork. Newcastle United took a yellow card in the nineteenth minute for a Michael
Williamson foul. In the fifty-fourth minute, Newcastle United's Jack Colback received a yellow card for his foul. West Ham United got on the board in the fifty-sixth minute with an Aaron Cresswell goal, set up by Cheikhou Kouyate. In the sixty-sixth minute, Mark Noble of West Ham United took a yellow card for his foul. In the seventy-fifth minute, Newcastle United's Moussa Sissoko received a yellow card for his foul, and a minute later Sissoko committed another yellow card-worthy foul to be sent off. In the eighty-seventh minute, Mauro Zarate of West Ham United was given a yellow card for a foul. West Ham United held on for a 1-0 win.

Finally, Saturday's games close out with Sunderland welcoming Chelsea. Thibaut Courtois and Costel Pantilimon are the gloved men. In the fifty-fifth minute, Diego Costa took a yellow card for his foul for Chelsea. At the seventy-five minute mark, John O'Shea of Sunderland was given a yellow card for a foul. Nemanja Matic of Chelsea had a yellow card in the eighty-sixth minute. Sunderland ended with a pair of yellow cards, going to Santiago Vergini in the eighty-ninth minute and Jordi Gomez in stoppage time. The game ended in a scoreless draw.

On Sunday, Southampton brings in Manchester City. Joe Hart and Fraser Forster are in the six-yard boxes. Southampton took a yellow card in the seventh minute for a Victor Wanyama foul. In the ninth minute, Sergio Aguero of Manchester City was given a yellow card for his foul, followed by another yellow card in the twenty-second minute to Eliaquim Mangala. Manchester City opened the scoring in the fifty-first minute with a Yaya Toure goal, set up by Aguero. In the seventy-fourth minute, Mangala received another yellow card and was ejected from the game, putting Manchester City down a man. Manchester City added on in the eightieth minute with a Frank Lampard goal, passed from James Milner on a fast break. In the eighty-first minute, Vincent Kompany took a yellow card for Manchester City. Manchester City extended the lead in the eighty-eighth minute on a Gael Clichy goal, via Aguero on a fast break. Manchester City cruised to a 3-0 victory despite the manpower disadvantage.

Closing out the week, Tottenham Hotspur hosts Everton. Tim Howard and Hugo Lloris are the keepers. Everton began in the fifteenth minute on a Kevin Mirallas goal. Tottenham Hotspur tied it in the twenty-first minute with a Christian Eriksen goal. In the forty-third minute, Mirallas was given a yellow card for Everton. In first half stoppage time, Tottenham Hotspur took the lead on a Roberto Soldado goal, passed from Aaron Lennon. Tottenham Hotspur took a fifty-sixth minute yellow card for a foul by Vlad Chiriches. Tottenham Hotspur had three late yellow cards assessed to Erik Lamela in the eighty-seventh minute, Ben Davies in the eighty-ninth minute, and Nabil Bentalib in the ninetieth minute, all for fouls. The final favored Tottenham Hotspur 2-1.

Twelve games on today, beginning in...

New York, as the Rangers host the Philadelphia Flyers. Ray Emery and Henrik Lundqvist draw the starts. New York began in the first period with Derick Brassard's seventh of the season, a power play goal powered by Rick Nash and Derek Stepan. Philadelphia tied it with a Nicklas Grossmann goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Jakub Voracek and Brayden Schenn. The Flyers took the lead with a second period goal by Voracek, his ninth of the season, coming on the power play from Schenn and Claude Giroux. The Rangers retied it on a Jesper Fast goal, assisted by Kevin Klein and J.T Miller. New York took the lead in the third period on a Brassard goal, his second of the game and eighth of the year, via Kevin Hayes and Klein. The Rangers added on with a Miller goal, guided in by Fast and Matt Hunwick. New York iced it at 5-2 with an empty net goal by Lee Stempniak, his fifth of the campaign, set up by Ryan McDonagh. The three stars went to Brassard, Fast, and Miller, while Voracek, Schenn, and Klein get the honorable mentions.

Down in Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins. Thomas Greiss and Anton Khudobin are the backups making spot starts. Carolina led off in the first period with a Justin Faulk power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Victor Rask and Nathan Gerbe. Pittsburgh tied it on a Chris Kunitz goal, his ninth of the year, via Evgeni Malkin and Blake Comeau. The Penguins took the lead on a Robert Bortuzzo goal, his second of the season, guided in by Paul Martin and Andrew Ebbett. Pittsburgh added on in the third period with a Christian Ehrhoff goal, passed from Olli Maatta. The Hurricanes got one back on an Elias Lindholm goal, his seventh of the year, coming on the power play from Rask and Eric Staal. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars given to Ehrhoff, Rask, and Bortuzzo.

North to Montreal, where the Canadiens bring in the Buffalo Sabres. Jhonas Enroth and Dustin Tokarski are the little-known goalies. Buffalo struck first in the first period on a Zemgus Girgensons goal, his seventh of the season, courtesy of Tyler Ennis and Nicolas Deslauriers. Montreal tied it with a Brendan Gallagher goal in the second period, his sixth of the year, guided in by Alex Galchenyuk and Bryan Allen. The Sabres took the lead back in the third period on a Chris Stewart goal, his third of the season, via Marcus Foligno. The Canadiens pulled even on a Lars Eller goal, his seventh of the year, assisted by Brandon Prust and Alexei Emelin. Montreal took the lead as Max Pacioretty scored his eleventh of the season, thanks to Dale Weise and P.K. Subban. Buffalo retied it on a Brian Flynn goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Brian Gionta and Torrey Mitchell. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Flynn scored to give the Sabres a 4-3 win. The three stars went to Flynn, Stewart, and Girgensons.

Back stateside, the New York Islanders host the New Jersey Devils. Jaroslav Halak and Cory Schneider guard the cages. New York was first to score in the first period on a Nikolay Kulemin goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Kyle Okposo and John Tavares. New Jersey tied it on a Damien Brunner goal, his second of the year, coming off of Adam Larsson and Michael Ryder. The Islanders retook the lead in the second period on a Cal Clutterbuck goal, his third of the season, fueled by Calvin de Haan and Casey Cizikas. New York iced it at 3-1 with a shorthanded empty net goal by Cizikas, his third of the year, set up by Frans Nielsen and Thomas Hickey. The three stars went to Halak (34 for 35 in saves), Cizikas, and Clutterbuck.

South to Tampa Bay, where the Lightning welcome the Ottawa Senators. Robin Lehner and Ben Bishop are the masked men. Ottawa opened in the first period on a David Legwand goal, his third of the season, a power play goal powered by Erik Karlsson and Kyle Turris. Tampa Bay tied it in the second period on a Ryan Callahan goal, his eleventh of the year, fueled by Steven Stamkos and Alex Killorn. The Lightning took the lead in the third period with a Killorn goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Anton Stralman and Callahan. Tampa Bay added on with a Brenden Morrow goal, courtesy of Cedric Paquette. The Lightning extended the lead on a Nikita Kucherov power play goal, his ninth of the year, made possible by Tyler Johnson and Jason Garrison. This produced the 4-1 final, with the three stars being Callahan, Killorn, and Bishop (26 for 27 in saves).

Into Canada again, as the Toronto Maple Leafs bring in the Washington Capitals. Justin Peters is mismatched with Jonathan Bernier in goal. Toronto started in the first period on an unassisted goal by Morgan Rielly, his third of the season. The Maple Leafs added on with a Cody Franson power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Joffrey Lupul and Mike Santorelli. Toronto extended the lead in the second period with a Tyler Bozak goal, his tenth of the season, via James van Riemsdyk and Phil Kessel. Washington got on the board with a Troy Brouwer power play goal, his sixth of the year, assisted by Nicklas Backstrom and John Carlson. The Maple Leafs shot back on a David Clarkson goal, his seventh of the season, made possible by Nazem Kadri and Jake Gardiner. Toronto padded the lead with a Bozak power play goal, his second of the game and eleventh of the year, with assists provided by Kessel and van Riemsdyk. The Capitals got one back in the third period with a Tom Wilson goal, his second of the season, helped along by Backstrom and Carlson. The Maple Leafs answered on a Lupul power play goal, his third of the year, driven in by Gardiner and Rielly. Back south to Nashville, where the Predators host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Curtis McElhinney and Pekka Rinne are the goalies. Nashville got going in the second period on a Mike Ribeiro goal, his sixth of the season, fueled by Roman Josi and Shea Weber. Columbus tied it in the third period on a Ryan Johansen power play goal, his ninth of the year, powered by Nick Foligno and Jack Johnson. The Predators regained the lead with a Colin Wilson goal, his fourth of the campaign, assisted by Craig Smith and Calle Jarnkrok. This held up for a 2-1 win, with the three stars awarded to Rinne (21 for 22 in saves), Wilson, and Ribeiro.

Up in Minnesota, the Wild welcome the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Niklas Backstrom receive the starting nods. St. Louis dented the scoreboard in the second period on a Vladimir Tarasenko goal, his fourteenth of the season, going in unassisted. Minnesota tied it on a Mikko Koivu goal, his third of the year, passed from Jason Zucker and Charlie Coyle. The Wild took the lead with a power play goal by Zach Parise, his ninth of the season, powered by Ryan Suter and Jason Pominville. The Blues tied it in the third period as David Backes scored his seventh of the year, with the help of Patrik Berglund. St. Louis won 3-2 in the shootout on a lone tally by Tarasenko. The three stars went to Tarasenko, Allen (36 for 38 in saves), and Backes.

Southwest to Colorado, where the Avalanche bring in the Dallas Stars. Anders Lindback and Calvin Pickard are the unknown goalies. Dallas led off in the first period on a Cody Eakin goal, his fifth of the season, fueled by Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. Colorado tied it on a Daniel Briere goal, his fifth of the year, passed from John Mitchell and Nate Guenin. The Avalanche took the lead with a Jarome Iginla goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Gabriel Landeskog and Tyson Barrie. The Stars tied it with an unassisted goal by Patrick Eaves, his third of the year. Colorado retook the lead in the second period on an Alex Tanguay goal, his eighth of the season, guided in by Matt Duchene and Barrie. The Avalanche added on in the third period with a Duchene power play goal, his eighth of the year, powered by Barrie, who got a sock trick, and Tanguay. Colorado finished it at 5-2 with a Landeskog power play goal, his seventh of the campaign, with assists provided by Tanguay and Nathan MacKinnon. The three stars went to Tanguay, Barrie, and Duchene, while Landeskog gets an honorable mention.

Out in Los Angeles, the Kings host the Chicago Blackhawks. Corey Crawford and Jonathan Quick are in the creases. Chicago began in the first period with a Dan Carcillo goal, his third of the season, assisted by Bryan Bickell. The Blackhawks added on with a Brad Richards goal, his fifth of the year, coming off of Kris Versteeg. Los Angeles got on the board in the second period with a Jordan Nolan goal, passed from Jake Muzzin. Chicago shot back on another Richards goal, his second of the game and sixth of the season, fueled by Michal Rozsival and Versteeg. The Blackhawks iced it at 4-1 with a Brandon Saad empty net goal, his fourth of the year, set up by Marian Hossa. The three stars went to Richards, Versteeg, and Carcillo.

Back east to Arizona, where the Coyotes welcome the Calgary Flames. Karri Ramo and Devan Dubnyk are the backups in goal. Calgary got going in the second period on a T.J. Brodie goal, his sixth of the season, via Jiri Hudler and Johnny Gaudreau. The Flames added on in the third period with a Gaudreau goal, his fourth of the year, guided in by Hudler and Mark Giordano. Calgary extended the lead with a Hudler power play goal, his eleventh of the season, powered by Sean Monahan and Dennis Wideman. This produced the 3-0 final, with the three stars going to Hudler, Gaudreau, and Ramo (26 save shutout).

Finally, in San Jose, the Sharks bring in the Anaheim Ducks. Frederik Andersen and Antti Niemi protect the nets. San Jose struck first in the first period on a Logan Couture goal, his ninth of the season, fueled by Tommy Wingels and Patrick Marleau. Anaheim tied it on a Matt Beleskey goal, his eleventh of the year, coming off of Hampus Lindholm and Devante Smith-Pelly. The Sharks took the lead back on another Couture goal, his second of the game and tenth of the season, coming shorthanded and unassisted. San Jose added on with a Joe Pavelski power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Joe Thornton and Wingels. The Sharks extended the lead in the second period with a Wingels goal, his seventh of the season, passed from Marleau and Justin Braun. San Jose padded the lead on a Tomas Hertl goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of James Sheppard. The Ducks got one back with a Corey Perry goal, his thirteenth of the season, pushed through by Ryan Getzlaf and Sami Vatanen. Anaheim chipped closer in the third period with another Perry goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the year, via Getzlaf and Cam Fowler. The Ducks pulled closer on a Getzlaf goal, his seventh of the season, with a lone assist by Perry. The Sharks finished it at 6-4 with a power play empty net goal by Matthew Nieto, his second of the year, set up by Wingels. The three stars went to Wingels, Couture, and Perry, while Marleau and Getzlaf get honorable mentions.
