NHL 2022-23 - Day 13

A lucky 13 games on today, including four matinees. First up...

The Boston Bruins host the Minnesota Wild. Marc-Andre Fleury and Linus Ullmark are the masked men. Minnesota led off in the first period with a Brandon Duhaime shorthanded goal, set up by Jared Spurgeon and Connor Dewar. Boston tied it on a Nick Foligno goal, his third of the season, assisted by Taylor Hall and Pavel Zacha. The Bruins took the lead with a David Pastrnak goal, his fourth of the year, coming off of Hall and David Krejci. Boston added on in the second period with a Hampus Lindholm goal, his second of the season, guided in by Matt Grzelcyk and Craig Smith. The Wild got one back with a Matt Boldy power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Mats Zuccarello and Marcus Foligno. Minnesota tied it in the third period with a Spurgeon goal, helped along by Zuccarello and Jonas Brodin. The Bruins won 4-3 in overtime with a Hall power play goal, his third of the campaign, with assists provided by Krejci and Pastrnak. The three stars were Hall, Spurgeon, and Pastrnak, while Krejci and Zuccarello get the honorable mentions. 

Along to New Jersey, as the Devils welcome the San Jose Sharks. Kaapo Kahkonen and MacKenzie Blackwood man the nets. New Jersey got going in the second period with a Yegor Sharangovich goal, going in unassisted. The Devils added on with a Dawson Mercer power play goal, his second of the campaign, powered by Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt. San Jose got on the board with a Kevin Labanc goal, via Scott Harrington and Oskar Lindblom. This only made it 2-1, the eventual final, with the three stars being Blackwood (21 for 22 in saves), Mercer, and Sharangovich. 

Up in Ottawa, the Senators bring in the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka and Anton Forsberg draw the starts in goal. Ottawa began in the first period with a Shane Pinto goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Tyler Motte and Artem Zub. The Senators added on with a Josh Norris goal, via Jake Sanderson and Alex DeBrincat. Arizona got on the board in the second period with a Dylan Guenther power play goal, powered by Matias Maccelli and Juuso Valimaki. Ottawa fired back with a Brady Tkachuk power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Drake Batherson and Tim Stutzle. The Coyotes got one back with a Clayton Keller goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Travis Boyd. The Senators replied in the third period with an unassisted Mark Kastelic goal, his second of the year. Ottawa extended the lead as Tyler Motte scored his second of the season, thanks to Batherson and Pinto. The Senators padded the lead on a Tkachuk goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, fueled by Sanderson and Stutzle. The final held at 6-2, with the three stars going to Tkachuk, Pinto, and Motte, while Stutzle, Batherson, and Sanderson get the honorable mentions.

Westward to Edmonton, as the Oilers host the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Jack Campbell protect the nets. St. Louis opened in the first period with a Torey Krug power play goal, powered by Vladimir Tarasenko and Brayden Schenn. The Blues iced it at 2-0 with a Justin Faulk empty net goal, his third of the campaign, set up by Robert Thomas in the third period. The three stars belonged to Binnington (24 save shutout), Krug, and Faulk. 

Back east, the Montreal Canadiens welcome the Dallas Stars. Jake Oettinger and Jake Allen are in the creases. Dallas started in the first period with a Joe Pavelski power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Jamie Benn and Jason Robertson. Montreal tied it on a Mike Hoffman goal, assisted by Jake Evans and Arber Xhekaj. The Stars retook the lead in the second period with another Pavelski goal, his second of the game and third of the year, courtesy of Roope Hintz. Dallas added on with a Robertson power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Benn and Pavelski. The Canadiens got one back with a Xhekaj goal, helped along by Sean Monahan and Nick Suzuki. The Stars responded with an Esa Lindell goal, guided in by Ty Dellandrea. Dallas extended the lead as Pavelski finished his hat trick in the third period with his fourth goal of the year, with helpers from Hintz and Nils Lundkvist. This stood for a 5-2 win, with the three stars being Pavelski, Robertson, and Xhekaj while Hintz and Benn get the honorable mentions.

Way down south, the Tampa Bay Lightning bring in the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin and Brian Elliott are in goal. Tampa Bay struck first in the first period with a Brayden Point goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Nikita Kucherov and Brandon Hagel. New York tied it on an unassisted Matt Martin goal. The Lightning retook the lead with a Hagel goal, via Point and Victor Hedman. Tampa Bay added on in the second period with a Corey Perry goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Pat Maroon. The Islanders pulled one back with an Anthony Beauvillier goal, his second of the season, assisted by Brock Nelson. The Lightning fired back with a Nick Paul goal, with a lone assist by Ross Colton. New York got one back in the third period with a Ryan Pulock goal, going in unassisted. Tampa Bay finished it at 5-3 with an Alex Killorn goal, made possible by Paul and Mikhail Sergachev. The three stars were Point, Hagel, and Paul.

Back north, the Washington Capitals host the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Darcy Kuemper guard the cages. Los Angeles dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Sean Durzi goal, passed from Viktor Arvidsson. The Kings added on with a Phillip Danault goal, his third of the season, coming off of Arvidsson and Trevor Moore. Washington got on the board in the third period with a Nic Dowd goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Nick Jensen. The Capitals tied it with a John Carlson goal, his second of the season, guided in by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov. Washington took the lead with a Lars Eller goal, his second of the year, via Orlov and Carlson. Los Angeles retied it on an Arvidsson goal, with a lone assist by Moore. The Capitals regained the lead with a Marcus Johansson goal, his second of the campaign, assisted by Orlov and T.J. Oshie. The three stars of the 4-3 game were Arvidsson, Orlov, and Carlson, while Moore gets an honorable mention.

In Canada again, the Winnipeg Jets welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ilya Samsonov and Connor Hellebuyck are between the pipes. Winnipeg kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Pierre-Luc Dubois goal, his second of the season, made possible by Cole Perfetti and Blake Wheeler. Toronto tied it on a John Tavares power play goal, his second of the year, powered by William Nylander and Auston Matthews. The Maple Leafs pulled ahead in the second period with a David Kampf goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Wayne Simmonds and Kyle Clifford. Toronto added on with a Tavares power play goal, his second of the game and third of the year, with assists provided by Matthews and Rasmus Sandin. The Maple Leafs iced it at 4-1 in the third period with a Michael Bunting empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Mitchell Marner and Matthews. The three stars belonged to Tavares, Matthews, and Samsonov (30 for 31 in saves).

Stateside, the Columbus Blue Jackets bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Elvis Merzlikins are in the blue paint. Columbus drew first blood in the first period with a Boone Jenner goal, guided in by Johnny Gaudreau. The Blue Jackets added on with a Jack Roslovic shorthanded goal, going in unassisted. Pittsburgh got on the board in the second period with a Josh Archibald goal, made possible by Ryan Poehling. Columbus answered with a Kent Johnson goal, via Roslovic. The Penguins got one back with a Jan Rutta goal, his second of the season, helped along by Kasperi Kapanen. Pittsburgh tied it on a Danton Heinen goal, his second of the year, coming off of Sidney Crosby and Marcus Pettersson. The Penguins took the lead in the third period with a Crosby goal, his third of the season, guided in by Brian Dumoulin. Pittsburgh extended the lead as Heinen scored his second of the game and third of the year, with the help of Pierre-Olivier Joseph and Crosby. The Penguins padded the lead on a Brock McGinn goal, fueled by Kapanen and Rutta. This made it 6-3, the final, with the three stars going to Heinen, Crosby, and Rutta, while Roslovic and Kapanen get the honorable mentions.

Down in Nashville, the Predators host the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Juuse Saros patrol the creases. Philadelphia was first to score in the first period with a Kevin Hayes goal, fueled by Joel Farabee. The Flyers added on with a Zack MacEwen goal, via Egor Zamula and Farabee. Philadelphia extended the lead in the third period as Farabee scored, thanks to Hayes and Ivan Provorov. Nashville got on the board with a Matt Duchene power play goal, his second of the campaign, powered by Filip Forsberg and Mikael Granlund. This only made it 3-1, the final, with the three stars going to Farabee, Hayes, and Hart (31 for 32 in saves). 

Out west, the Vegas Golden Knights welcome the Colorado Avalanche. Alexandar Georgiev and Logan Thompson tend the twines. Colorado cracked the scoresheet in the first period with a Nathan MacKinnon power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Cale Makar and Arturri Lehkonen. Vegas tied it on a Jonathan Marchessault power play goal, his fifth of the year, with assists provided by Mark Stone and Jack Eichel. The Avalanche retook the lead in the second period with an Evan Rodrigues power play goal, his second of the season, made possible by Samuel Girard and Bowen Byram. Colorado added on in the third period with a Valeri Nichushkin goal, his sixth of the year, via Erik Johnson. The Golden Knights got one back with a Chandler Stephenson goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Stone and Eichel. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars going to Stone, Eichel, and Nichushkin.

Up in Calgary, the Flames bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Antti Raanta and Jacob Markstrom receive the starting nods in goal. Carolina led off in the first period with a Sebastian Aho goal, his third of the season, via Teuvo Teravainen. The Hurricanes added on with a Calvin de Haan goal, guided in by Paul Stastny and Stefan Noesen. Calgary got on the board with a Nazem Kadri power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Tyler Toffoli and Rasmus Andersson. The Flames tied it in the second period with a Brett Ritchie goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. Calgary won 3-2 in overtime with a Toffoli goal, his third of the year, helped along by Andersson. The three stars were Toffoli, Andersson, and Markstrom (25 for 27 in saves).

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks host the Buffalo Sabres. Craig Anderson and Thatcher Demko start in goal. Buffalo began in the first period with a Rasmus Dahlin power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Casey Mittelstadt and Tage Thompson. The Sabres added on with an Alex Tuch goal, his sixth of the year, via Jeff Skinner. Vancouver got on the board in the second period with a Conor Garland power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Tanner Pearson and Ilya Mikheyev. Buffalo replied in the third period with a Victor Olofsson goal, his third of the year, passed from Mittelstadt. The Sabres extended the lead as Zemgus Girgensons scored his second of the season into an empty net, thanks to Oloffson. Buffalo capped it at 5-1 with an Olofsson goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, set up by Dahlin and Rasmus Asplund. The three stars went to Olofsson, Dahlin, and Mittelstadt.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 12

Three games on for Friday night, beginning with...

The Florida Panthers hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Sergei Bobrovsky guard the cages. Tampa Bay led off in the first period with a Steven Stamkos power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman. Florida tied it on a Matthew Tkachuk goal, his third of the year, guided in by Brandon Montour and Gustav Forsling. The Panthers took the lead in the second period with a Rudolfs Balcers goal, his second of the season, made possible by Tkachuk and Montour. The Lightning tied it in the third period with a Brayden Point goal, his second of the year, via Kucherov and Mikhail Sergachev. Tampa Bay won 3-2 in overtime with a Point goal, his second of the game and third of the campaign coming on the power play with assists provided by Stamkos and Corey Perry. The three stars were Point, Stamkos, and Tkachuk, while Kucherov and Montour get the honorable mentions. 

Up in Chicago, the Blackhawks welcome the Detroit Red Wings. Alex Nedeljkovic and Petr Mrazek make the starts in goal. Detroit began in the first period with a Pius Suter goal, made possible by Robert Hagg and Gustav Lindstrom. The Red Wings added on with a Dylan Larkin power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Dominik Kubalik and Filip Hronek. Chicago got on the board in the second period with an Andreas Athanasiou penalty shot goal. Detroit replied with a Kubalik goal, his second of the year, helped along by Olli Maatta. Alex Stalock replaced Mrazek in goal. The Blackhawks got one back in the third period with a Philipp Kurashev goal, assisted by Sam Lafferty and Jack Johnson. Chicago tied it on a Connor Murphy shorthanded goal, set up by Lafferty. The Blackhawks won 4-3 in overtime with a Max Domi goal, his second of the campaign, going in unassisted. The three stars were Domi, Lafferty, and Kubalik. 

Finally, the Colorado Avalanche bring in the Seattle Kraken. Philipp Grubauer and Pavel Francouz are set to start in goal. Seattle got going in the second period with a Jaden Schwartz power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Jordan Eberle and Jared McCann. The Kraken added on with a McCann goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Carson Soucy. Colorado got on the board with an Evan Rodrigues goal, fueled by Valeri Nichushkin and Bowen Byram. The Avalanche tied it in the third period with a shorthanded Byram goal, his second of the season, set up by Nichushkin and Logan O'Connor. Seattle retook the lead with a Karson Kuhlman goal, assisted by Schwartz and Jamie Oleksiak. This held for a 3-2 win, with the three stars going to Schwartz, McCann, and Byram, while Nichushkin gets an honorable mention.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 11

There's 12 games on for today's schedule, beginning with...

The Boston Bruins hosting the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Linus Ullmark man the nets. Boston got going in the second period with a Taylor Hall goal, his second of the season, assisted by Hampus Lindholm and Matt Grzelcyk. Anaheim tied it on a Frank Vatrano goal, his third of the year, via Mason McTavish and Ryan Strome. The tie went to a shootout, where Hall had the lone tally to give the Bruins a 2-1 win. The three stars were Hall, Ullmark (30 for 31 in saves), and Gibson (35 for 36 in saves).

Along to Toronto, as the Maple Leafs welcome the Dallas Stars. Scott Wedgewood and Ilya Samsonov make the starts in goal. Dallas kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Luke Glendening goal, coming off of Nils Lundkvist and Joel Kiviranta. Toronto tied it on an Alexander Kerfoot power play goal in the second period, powered by Michael Bunting and Rasmus Sandin. The Maple Leafs took the lead in the third period with a Nicholas Robertson goal, via Bunting and William Nylander. The Stars tied it on a Tyler Seguin power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Mason Marchment and Wyatt Johnston. Toronto won 3-2 in overtime with a Robertson goal, his second of the game, made possible by Auston Matthews and Morgan Rielly. . The three stars were Robertson, Bunting, and Kerfoot.

The Canadiens padded the lead in the second period on a Juraj Slafkovsky unassisted goal. Montreal continued with a Nick Suzuki penalty shot goal, his third of the season. Arizona got on the board in the third period with a J.J. Moser goal, helped along by Travis Boyd and Lawson Crouse. The Coyotes got closer with a Boyd goal, with helpers from Crouse and Clayton Keller. The Canadiens iced it at 6-2 with a Sean Monahan empty net goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. Buffalo added on with a Casey Mittelstadt shorthanded goal, set up by Hinostroza and Owen Power. Dan Vladar replaced Markstrom in goal for the second period. The Sabres extended the lead in the second period as Alex Tuch scored his third of the season, thanks to Power and Bryson. Finally, the Vegas Golden Knights bring in the Winnipeg Jets. David Rittich and Adin Hill are the backups in goal. Vegas got on the board first in the first period with a Jack Eichel goal, his second of the season, assisted by Reilly Smith and Alex Pietrangelo. The Golden Knights added on with a William Karlsson goal, his second of the year, via Michael Amadio and Jonathan Marchessault. Vegas extended the lead as Chandler Stephenson scored, thanks to Shea Theodore. The Golden Knights padded the lead on another Eichel goal, his second of the game and third of the season, going in unassisted. Winnipeg got on the board in the second period with a Pierre-Luc Dubois goal, passed from Neal Pionk and Cole Perfetti. The Jets got closer in the third period with a Pionk goal, his third of the year, with helpers from Josh Morrissey and Adam Lowry. Vegas capped it at 5-2 with an empty net goal by Marchessault, his fourth of the campaign, set up by Karlsson and Pietrangelo. NHL 2022-23 - Day 10

There's just three games on for this Wednesday, beginning with...

The Florida Panthers hosting the Philadelphia Flyers. Felix Sandstrom and Sergei Bobrovsky are the goalies. Florida opened in the first period with a Carter Verhaeghe goal, via Aleksander Barkov and Radko Gudas. The Panthers added on with another Verhaeghe goal, assisted by Gustav Forsling and Barkov. Philadelphia got on the board with a Nick Seeler goal, passed from Kevin Hayes and Zach MacEwen.  The Flyers tied it in the second period with a James van Riemsdyk power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov. Florida took the lead with a Rudolfs Balcers goal, courtesy of Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk. The Panthers extended the lead as Josh Mahura scored, thanks to Bennett and Tkachuk. Philadelphia got one back with a power play goal by Konecny, his fourth of the year, guided in by Tony DeAngelo and Hayes. This only made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars going to Verhaeghe, Bennett, and Tkachuk, while Konecny, Hayes, and Barkov get the honorable mentions.

Out west, the Colorado Avalanche welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Alexandar Georgiev guard the cages. Winnipeg started in the first period with a Sam Gagner power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Adam Lowry and Cole Perfetti. The Jets added on with a Neal Pionk goal, guided in by Mason Appleton and Josh Morrissey. Colorado got on the board with a Mikko Rantanen goal, his second of the year, via Nathan MacKinnon and Devon Toews. Winnipeg fired back with a Perfetti goal, made possible by Blake Wheeler and Pierre-Luc Dubois. The Avalanche got one back with a Rantanen goal, his second of the game and third of the season, coming off of Bowen Byram and Valeri Nichushkin. Colorado tied it with a Nichushkin power play goal, his fifth of the year, with assists provided by Rantanen and Cale Makar. The Jets won 4-3 in overtime with another Pionk goal, helped along by Appleton. The three stars were Pionk, Rantanen, and Appleton, while Perfetti and Nichushkin get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Seattle Kraken bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Martin Jones are in the creases. St. Louis struck first in the first period with a Jordan Kyrou goal, assisted by Colton Parayko and Nick Leddy. Seattle tied it on a Will Borgen goal, via Alex Wennberg and Oliver Bjorkstrand. The Blues retook the lead with a Brayden Schenn goal, coming off of Vladimir Tarasenko and Robert Thomas. St. Louis added on with a Justin Faulk goal, passed from Schenn and Tarasenko. The Kraken got one back with a Ryan Donato goal, fueled by Brandon Tanev and Shane Wright. Seattle tied it on an Adam Larsson goal, helped along by Wennberg and Bjorkstrand. The Blues won 4-3 in overtime with a Faulk goal, his second of the game, courtesy of Tarasenko and Thomas. The three stars were Faulk, Tarasenko, and Schenn, while Thomas, Bjorkstrand, and Wennberg get the honorable mentions.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 9

Another fairly full day with eight games on is set to begin with...

The Columbus Blue Jackets hosting the Vancouver Canucks. Spencer Martin and Elvis Merzlikins are the goalies. Vancouver started in the first period with a Bo Horvat shorthanded goal, his second of the season, set up by Elias Pettersson and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Canucks added on with a Pettersson goal, his third of the year, coming off of Vasily Podkolzin and Nils Hoglander. Columbus got on the board with a Justin Danforth goal, via Vladislav Gavrikov and Yegor Chinakhov. The Blue Jackets tied it in the third period with a Zach Werenski goal, fueled by Boone Jenner and Johnny Gaudreau. Vancouver reclaimed the lead with a Horvat goal, his second of the game and third of the season, assisted by Brock Boeser and Tucker Poolman. Columbus tied it again with a Gaudreau goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. The Blue Jackets won 4-3 in overtime with a Gavrikov goal, made possible by Chinakhov and Jakub Voracek. The three stars went to Gavrikov, Gaudreau, and Horvat, while Pettersson and Chinakhov get the honorable mentions.

Along to New Jersey, as the Devils welcome the Anaheim Ducks. Anthony Stolarz and Mackenzie Blackwood man the nets. Anaheim led off in the first period with a Jakob Silfverberg goal, coming off of Isac Lundestrom. The Ducks added on with another Silfverberg goal, passed from Mason McTavish and Cam Fowler. New Jersey got on the board in the second period with an Ondrej Palat goal, fueled by Ryan Graves and Jack Hughes. The Devils tied it on a Nico Hischier goal, helped along by Jesper Bratt and Jonas Siegenthaler. New Jersey took the lead with a Dougie Hamilton goal, his second of the season, assisted by Bratt and Hischier. The Devils extended the lead as Dawson Mercer scored, thanks to Yegor Sharangovich and Hughes. This stood for a 4-2 win, with the three stars going to Silfverberg, Hischier, and Hughes, while Bratt gets an honorable mention.

Up in Ottawa, the Senators host the Boston Bruins. Jeremy Swayman and Anton Forsberg protect the nets. Ottawa opened in the first period with a Claude Giroux goal, his second of the season, assisted by Alex DeBrincat and Josh Norris. The Senators added on with a Brady Tkachuk goal, his second of the year, via Tim Stutzle and Artem Zub. Ottawa extended the lead as Drake Batherson scored, thanks to Tkachuk and Stutzle. Boston got on the board with a Patrice Bergeron goal, his third of the season, courtesy of David Pastrnak and Jake DeBrusk. The Bruins got closer in the second period with a David Krejci power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Bergeron and Pastrnak. Boston tied it as A.J. Greer scored his third of the season, with the help of Charlie Coyle. The Senators regained the lead with a Shane Pinto goal, his second of the year, with helpers from Mathieu Joseph and Tyler Motte. Ottawa padded the lead on a Stutzle goal, made possible by Batherson and Tkachuk. The Senators continued with a Mark Kastelic goal, fueled by Austin Watson. The Bruins fired back with a Nick Foligno goal, his second of the season, guided in by Jakub Lauko. Boston got closer on a Pastrnak goal, his third of the year, passed from DeBrusk and Bergeron. Linus Ullmark replaced Swayman in goal. Ottawa struck again in the third period with a Zub goal, with assists provided by Batherson and Erik Brannstrom. This stood for a 7-5 win, with the three stars belonging to Tkachuk, Stutzle, and Batherson, while Bergeron, Pastrnak, Zub, and DeBrusk receive the honorable mentions.

Down in Tampa Bay, the Lightning bring in the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Andrei Vasilevskiy are the masked men. Tampa Bay got going in the second period with a Steven Stamkos power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Vladislav Namestnikov and Nikita Kucherov. The Lightning added on with another Stamkos goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year, guided in by Kucherov and Victor Hedman on the power play. Philadelphia got on the board with a Scott Laughton goal, his second of the season, helped along by Egor Zamula and Morgan Frost. The Flyers tied it in the third period with a James van Riemsdyk power play goal, assisted by Kevin Hayes and Tony DeAngelo. Philadelphia pulled ahead on a Noah Cates goal, going in unassisted. The Flyers held on for a 3-2 win, with the three stars being Stamkos, Kucherov, and Cates.

Back north, the New York Islanders host the San Jose Sharks. James Reimer and Semyon Varlamov are the veterans in goal. San Jose began in the first period with a Nico Sturm goal, his second of the season, helped along by Evgeny Svechnikov and Jaycob Megna. New York tied it on an Anders Lee goal in the second period, via Adam Pelech and Brock Nelson. The Islanders took the lead with a Zach Parise goal, coming off of Noah Dobson and Jean-Gabriel Pageau. The Sharks retied it on an Svechnikov goal, his second of the year, passed from Matt Benning. New York retook the lead with an Oliver Wahlstrom goal, his second of the season, assisted by Nelson. The Islanders added on with another Wahlstrom goal in the third period, his second of the game and third of the year, guided in by Dobson. New York finished it at 5-2 with a Cal Clutterbuck empty net goal, set up by Matt Martin and Pelech. The three stars went to Wahlstrom, Svechnikov, and Nelson, while Dobson and Pelech get the honorable mentions.

Out west, the Calgary Flames welcome the Vegas Golden Knights. Logan Thompson and Jacob Markstrom tend the twines. Vegas struck first in the first period with a William Carrier goal, via Zach Whitecloud and Nicolas Roy. The Golden Knights added on with a Brett Howden goal, assisted by Brayden McNabb and Mark Stone. Calgary got on the board in the second period with an Elias Lindholm power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri. The Flames tied it on a Tyler Toffoli power play goal, his second of the year, with assists provided by Rasmus Andersson and Huberdeau. Calgary pulled ahead in the third period with a Mikael Backlund goal, his second of the season, coming off of Blake Coleman and MacKenzie Weegar. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars going to Huberdeau, Backlund, and Toffoli.

Also in Alberta, the Edmonton Oilers bring in the Buffalo Sabres. Eric Comrie and Stuart Skinner are the backups in goal. Buffalo kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Rasmus Dahlin power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Casey Mittelstadt. Edmonton tied it on a Darnell Nurse goal, his second of the year, via Leon Draisaitl and Cody Ceci. The Sabres pulled ahead with a Tage Thompson goal in the second period, assisted by Jeff Skinner. Buffalo added on with a J.J. Peterka goal, his second of the season, fueled by Vinnie Hinostroza. The Oilers got one back in third period with a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins goal, passed from Connor McDavid. The Sabres iced it at 4-2 with an Alex Tuch empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by Dylan Cozens and Thompson. The three stars were Peterka, Thompson, and Dahlin.

Finally, the Nashville Predators host the Los Angeles Kings. Cal Petersen and Juuse Saros are between the pipes. Nashville drew first blood in the first period with a Cody Glass goal, assisted by Mikael Granlund and Ryan McDonagh. Los Angeles tied it on a Gabriel Vilardi power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Arthur Kaliyev and Sean Durzi. The Predators retook the lead with a Filip Forsberg goal, his second of the year, via Granlund and Matt Duchene. Nashville added on with a Tanner Jeannot goal, made possible by Colton Sissons. The Kings got one back with a Matt Roy goal in the third period, his second of the season, courtesy of Brendan Lemieux. Los Angeles tied it on another Roy goal, his second of the game and third of the year, with helpers from Vilardi and Quinton Byfield. The Kings won 4-3 in the shootout with a lone tally by Vilardi. The three stars were Roy, Vilardi, and Granlund.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 8

We're back after a one-day break with nine games on this Monday. First up...

The Boston Bruins host the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Linus Ullmark man the nets. Boston opened in the first period with an unassisted Jake DeBrusk goal. Florida tied it in the second period with a Sam Bennett goal, guided in by Matthew Tkachuk and Rudolfs Balcers. The Bruins retook the lead on a Patrice Bergeron goal, his second of the season, assisted by DeBrusk. Boston added on in the third period with a David Pastrnak goal, his second of the year, helped along by Bergeron and Connor Clifton. The Bruins extended the lead as Trent Frederic scored, thanks to A.J. Greer and Clifton. The Panthers got one back with a Gustav Forsling goal, coming off of Colin White and Eetu Luostarinen. Florida got closer with a White goal, his second of the season, passed from Forsling and Carter Verhaeghe. Boston iced it at 5-3 with an empty net goal by DeBrusk, his second of the game, an unassisted goal. The three stars were DeBrusk, Bergeron, and Forsling, while Clifton and White get the honorable mentions.

Along to Detroit, as the Red Wings welcome the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Ville Husso are the masked men. Detroit started in the first period with an Adam Erne goal, via Pius Suter and Olli Maatta. Los Angeles tied it on a Gabriel Vilardi goal, his third of the season, coming off of Alex Iafallo and Drew Doughty. The Kings pulled ahead with an Adrian Kempe goal, his fourth of the year, passed from Kevin Fiala and Anze Kopitar. The Red Wings tied it on a David Perron goal, his second of the season, assisted by Dominik Kubalik and Maatta. Los Angeles regained the lead with a Phillip Danault goal, courtesy of Trevor Moore and Sean Durzi. Detroit tied it in the third period with a Perron power play goal, his second of the game and third of the year, powered by Filip Hronek and Oskar Sundqvist. The Kings retook the lead with a Kopitar goal, made possible by Kempe and Fiala. The Red Wings evened the score with a Sundqvist goal, with helpers from Perron and Kubalik. Los Angeles won 5-4 in overtime with a Danault goal, his second of the game, with a lone assist by Moore. The three stars were Danault, Kempe, and Kopitar, while Perron, Sundqvist, Fiala, Moore, Kubalik and Maatta get the honorable mentions.

Next up, the Montreal Canadiens bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Casey DeSmith and Sam Montembeault are the backups in goal. Pittsburgh led off in the first period with an Evgeni Malkin goal, his second of the season, assisted by Marcus Pettersson and Bryan Rust. The Penguins added on with another Malkin goal, his second of the game and third of the year, with helpers from Rust and Pierre-Olivier Joseph. Montreal got on the board in the third period with a Nick Suzuki goal, his second of the year, via Kaiden Guhle and Mike Hoffman. The Canadiens tied it with a Cole Caufield goal, his third of the season, coming off of Jonathan Drouin and Guhle. Montreal won 3-2 in overtime with a Kirby Dach power play goal, powered by Sean Monahan and Suzuki. The three stars were Suzuki, Malkin, and Guhle, while Rust gets an honorable mention.

Back stateside, the New York Rangers host the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Igor Shesterkin guard the cages. The Rangers added on with a Zibanejad power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Trocheck and Panarin. Anaheim got on the board with a Frank Vatrano goal, his second of the season, coming off of Pavol Regenda and Isac Lundestrom. The Ducks tied it in the second period with a Trevor Zegras goal, his second of the year, via Troy Terry and Dmitry Kulikov. New York regained the lead on a Kaapo Kakko goal, his second of the season, passed from Zibanejad and Adam Fox. The Rangers extended the lead as Alexis Lafreniere scored, thanks to Filip Chytil and Jacob Trouba. New York padded the lead on a Panarin goal, his second of the year, helped along by Fox and Ryan Lindgren. Anthony Stolarz replaced Gibson in goal. Anaheim got one back with a Max Comtois goal in the third period, guided in by Kevin Shattenkirk and Terry. The Rangers fired back with Zibanejad goal, his second of the game and fourth of the season, made possible by Panarin and Fox. The Ducks pulled one back on a Derek Grant goal, made possible by Max Jones and Regenda. The final held at 6-4, with the three stars going to Zibanejad, Panarin, and Fox, while Trocheck, Terry, and Regenda get the honorable mentions.

In Canada again, the Toronto Maple Leafs welcome the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka and Erik Kallgren receive the starts in goal. Arizona struck first in the first period with a Nick Ritchie power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Shayne Gostisbehere and J.J. Moser. The Coyotes added on in the second period with a Christian Fischer goal, via Nick Bjugstad. Toronto got on the board in the third period with a William Nylander power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by John Tavares and Morgan Rielly. The Maple Leafs tied it on a Mitchell Marner goal, going in unassisted. Arizona regained the lead with a Gostisbehere power play goal, his second of the season, helped along by Clayton Keller and Ritchie. The Coyotes iced it at 4-2 with an empty net goal by Lawson Crouse, set up by Fischer. The three stars were Gostisbehere, Ritchie, and Fischer.

South again to DC, as the Washington Capitals bring in the Vancouver Canucks. Darcy Kuemper and Thatcher Demko tend the twines. Washington kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Alex Ovechkin power play goal, powered by Marcus Johansson and Dylan Strome. Vancouver tied it on an Elias Pettersson goal, his second of the season, coming off of Quinn Hughes and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Capitals retook the lead with a Lars Eller goal, via Martin Fehervary in the second period. The Canucks retied it on a Bo Horvat goal, courtesy of Tanner Pearson and Brock Boeser. Vancouver pulled ahead with a Curtis Lazar goal, helped along by Andrei Kuzmenko and Pettersson. The Canucks added on with a J.T. Miller power play goal, his second of the year, with assists provided by Hughes and Pettersson. Washington got one back with a Strome power play goal, fueled by John Carlson and Johansson in the third period. The Capitals tied it with a Carlson goal, guided in by Ovechkin and Evgent Kuznetsov. Washington gained the lead with a Conor Sheary goal, his third of the season, assisted by Ovechkin and Kuznetsov. The Capitals extended the lead as Ovechkin scored his second of the game, with the help of Kuznetsov and Nick Jensen. This stood for a 4-1 win, with the three stars handed to Oettinger (23 for 24 in saves), Marchment, and Hakanpaa.

Finally, the Seattle Kraken bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen and Philipp Grubauer are between the pipes. Carolina cracked the scoresheet in the first period with a Seth Jarvis goal, his second of the season, via Sebastian Aho and Brady Skjei. The Hurricanes added on with an Aho power play goal in the second period, his second of the year, powered by Andrei Svechnikov and Brent Burns. Seattle got on the board with an Andre Burakovsky power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Jordan Eberle and Jared McCann. Carolina replied with a Svechnikov power play goal, his second of the year, helped along by Aho and Stefan Noesen. The Hurricanes extended the lead as Svechnikov scored his second of the game and third of the season, thanks to Martin Necas. Carolina finished it at 5-1 with a Jordan Martinook goal, with helpers from Noesen and Jaccob Slavin in the third period. The three stars were Svechnikov, Aho, and Noesen.
