KHL Day 68/NHL Day 25 2015/16

We're going to smash the hockey posts together for a few days as the KHL takes on a light schedule. We'll begin with the KHL each day, and today that takes us to...

Helsinki, with Jokerit hosting Dinamo Riga. Joacim Eriksson and Riku Helenius get the starting nods. Helsinki got going in the second period on a Philip Larsen goal, assisted by Tommi Huhtala and Petteri Wirtanen. Jokerit added on with a power play goal by Jesse Joensuu, powered by Pekka Jormakka and Peter Regin. Helsinki extended the lead as Niklas Hagman scored a power play goal, thanks to Mathis Olimb and Topi Jaakola. Jokerit padded the lead on a Niko Kapanen goal, made possible by Hagman and Jormakka. Helsinki continued with a Joensuu goal, his second of the game, courtesy of Brandon Kozun and Regin. Riga got on the board in the third period on a Mikelis Redlihs goal, via Guntis Galvins and Lauris Darzins. Dinamo pulled closer with another Mikelis Redlihs goal, passed from Andris Dzerins and Darzins on the power play. Riga chipped away at the deficit with a Steven Seigo goal, with assists provided by Tomas Kundratek and Gunars Skvorcovs. Dinamo edged closer on a Tim Sestito goal, with a lone helper by Miks Indrasis. Riga tied it on a Krisjanis Redlihs goal, fueled by Mikelis Redlihs and Darzins on the power play, the latter getting a sock trick. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Kozun couldn't hold up against Mikelis Redlihs and Darzins, with Dinamo completing the comeback for a 6-5 win. The three stars went to Mikelis Redlihs, Darzins, and Joensuu, while Jormakka, Regin, Hagman, and Kozun get the honorable mentions.

In the NHL, the New Jersey Devils welcome the New York Islanders. Jaroslav Halak and Cory Schneider guard the cages. New Jersey was first to score in the first period on a John Moore goal, fueled by Lee Stempniak and Bobby Farnham. The Devils added on with a Farnham goal, passed from Stephen Gionta and Damon Severson. New York got on the board in the second period on an Anders Lee power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Marek Zidlicky and Nick Leddy. The Islanders tied it on a Frans Nielsen shorthanded goal, his fifth of the year, set up by Brian Strait. The tie went to a shootout, where Nielsen got topped by Jacob Josefson and Mike Cammalleri in a 3-2 Devils win. The three stars went to Farnham, Schneider (24 for 26 in saves), and Nielsen.

Down in Dallas, the second of three matinees goes with the Stars bringing in the San Jose Sharks. Alex Stalock faces former mentor Antti Niemi in goal. Dallas struck first in the first period on a Patrick Sharp goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Jason Demers and Tyler Seguin. The Stars added on with a Demers shorthanded goal in the second period, his third of the year, set up by Antoine Roussel and Vernon Fiddler. San Jose got on the board with a Joe Pavelski power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Brent Burns and Joel Ward. The Sharks tied it with a Matt Nieto shorthanded goal, his second of the year, coming off of Tommy Wingels. Dallas regained the lead on a Fiddler goal, via Roussel. San Jose tied it again as Ward scored his sixth of the season on the power play, helped along by Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton. The Stars took the lead back on a Roussel goal, in the third period, his second of the year, passed from John Klingberg and Fiddler. Dallas finished it at 5-3 with a Seguin power play goal into the empty net, his fifth of the campaign, with assists provided by Sharp and Klingberg. The three stars were handed to Fiddler, Demers, and Roussel, while Sharp, Seguin, Klingberg, and Ward get the honorable mentions.

Westward to Los Angeles, with the Kings hosting the Nashville Predators. Pekka Rinne and Jonathan Quick protect the nets. Los Angeles dented the scoreboard in the second period on a Tyler Toffoli power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Christian Ehrhoff and Milan Lucic. Nashville tied it on a James Neal power play goal, his seventh of the year, via Mike Fisher and Filip Forsberg. The Predators took the lead on a Shea Weber power play goal, his second of the season, assisted by Roman Josi and Forsberg. The Kings retied it in the third period on a Toffoli goal, his second of the game and ninth of the year, coming off of Trevor Lewis and Jake Muzzin. Los Angeles took the lead on an Andy Andreoff goal, guided in by Muzzin and Jamie McBain. Nashville retied it as Ryan Ellis scored his second of the season, thanks to Josi. The Kings won with a Jeff Carter overtime goal, his sixth of the year, with a lone helper by Drew Doughty. The three stars of the 4-3 game were Toffoli, Muzzin, and Josi, while Forsberg gets an honorable mention.

At the normal times, the Ottawa Senators welcome the Detroit Red Wings. Petr Mrazek and Craig Anderson are in goal. Detroit opened in the first period on a Tomas Tatar power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Niklas Kronwall and Henrik Zetterberg. The Red Wings added on in the second period with a Gustav Nyquist power play goal, his fifth of the year, assisted by Zetterberg and Tatar. Ottawa got on the board with a Kyle Turris goal, his seventh of the season, fueled by Erik Karlsson and Mark Stone. Detroit replied on a Jonathan Ericsson goal, via Danny DeKeyser and Darren Helm. The Red Wings extended the lead as Dylan Larkin scored his third of the year in the third period, courtesy of Kronwall and Luke Glendening. Detroit padded the lead with a DeKeyser goal, with assists provided by Nyquist and Riley Sheahan. The Senators pulled back with Stone's third of the season, going in unassisted. Ottawa chipped closer on a Bobby Ryan goal, his fourth of the year, passed from Shane Prince and Mika Zibanejad. The final stood at 5-3, with the three stars being Tatar, DeKeyser, and Stone, while Kronwall, Nyquist, and Zetterberg get the honorable mentions.

Down in Florida, the Tampa Bay Lightning bring in the Boston Bruins. Jonas Gustavsson is mismatched with Ben Bishop. Tampa Bay started in the first period on a Nikita Kucherov power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Vladislav Namestnikov and Ondrej Palat. Boston tied it on a Matt Beleskey goal, his second of the year, via Colin Miller and Jimmy Hayes. The Bruins took the lead in the third period on a Brett Connolly power play goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Brad Marchand and Zdeno Chara. Boston iced it at 3-1 with a Marchand empty net goal, his fifth of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars went to Marchand, Gustavsson (21 for 22 in saves), and Connolly.

Back in Canada, the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marc-Andre Fleury and Jonathan Bernier are set to start in goal. Pittsburgh led off in the first period on a Chris Kunitz power play goal, his second of the season, powered by David Perron and Beau Bennett. The Penguins added on in the second period with an Eric Fehr goal, a shorthanded goal set up by Matt Cullen. Pittsburgh extended the lead as Cullen scored, with the help of Fehr and Rob Scuderi. The Penguins padded the lead on a Patric Hornqvist goal in the third period, his second of the year, assisted by Brian Domoulin and the goalie Fleury. The final was 4-0, with the three stars being Fleury (21 save shutout), Fehr, and Cullen.

Returning to the south, the Florida Panthers welcome the Washington Capitals. Philipp Grubauer and Al Montoya are the backups in goal. Florida began in the first period with a Jussi Jokinen goal, his third of the season, helped along by Dave Bolland and Alex Petrovic. Washington tied it in the third period with a Jay Beagle goal, his second of the year, passed from Alex Ovechkin and Justin Williams. The Capitals won 2-1 in overtime with an Evgeny Kuznetsov goal, his fifth of the campaign, coming off of Dmitry Orlov and Ovechkin. The three stars were Grubauer (26 for 27 in saves), Ovechkin, and Kuznetsov.

North again to Columbus, where the Blue Jackets bring in the Winnipeg Jets. Ondrej Pavelec and Sergei Bobrovsky are the shaky goalies. Winnipeg drew first blood in the first period on a Bryan Little goal, his fifth of the season, courtesy of Blake Wheeler and Andrew Ladd. The Jets added on with an Andrew Copp goal, coming off of Tyler Myers and Anthony Peluso. Columbus got on the board with a Brandon Saad goal, his fourth of the year, via Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Murray. Winnipeg answered on a Wheeler goal, his sixth of the season, passed from Little and Dustin Byfuglien. Curtis McElhinney relieved Bobrovsky at this time. The Blue Jackets got one back on a Scott Hartnell goal, his fourth of the year, assisted by Cam Atkinson and David Savard in the third period. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars being Wheeler, Little, and Copp.

Backtracking to St. Louis, where the Blues welcome the Minnesota Wild. Devan Dubnyk and Jake Allen are the young goalies. St. Louis was first to score in the first period on a David Backes goal, guided in by Jay Bouwmeester and Alex Pietrangelo. The Blues added on with an Alexander Steen goal, his fifth of the season, going in unassisted. Minnesota got on the board with a Jason Zucker goal, his third of the year, coming off of Ryan Suter. The Wild tied it on an Erik Haula goal, with a lone helper by Thomas Vanek. St. Louis won 3-2 in overtime on a Backes goal, his second of the game, made possible by Ty Rattie. The three stars were Backes, Steen, and Allen (29 for 31 in saves).

Finally, there's a Battle of Alberta, with the Edmonton Oilers bringing in the Calgary Flames. Karri Ramo and Cam Talbot will occupy the creases. Calgary struck first in the first period on a Brandon Bollig goal, fueled by T.J. Brodie and Mason Raymond. The Flames added on with a Michael Frolik goal, guided in by Matt Stajan. Edmonton got on the board with a Taylor Hall goal, his fifth of the season, via Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl. Calgary replied with Frolik's second of the game, coming off of Kris Russell and Josh Jooris. The Oilers got one back in the second period on a power play goal by Brandon Davidson, his second of the year, powered by Teddy Purcell and Hall. The Flames answered on a Brodie power play goal, with helpers from Sam Bennett and Dougie Hamilton. Edmonton pulled back on a Purcell power play goal, his second of the season, helped along by Nugent-Hopkins and Draisaitl. The Oilers tied it with a Draisaitl goal, his third of the year, assisted by Hall. Calgary won 5-4 with a late Frolik goal, completing his hat trick, with the help of Stajan and Jooris. The three stars were awarded to Frolik, Draisaitl, and Brodie, while Stajan, Nugent-Hopkins, Hall, Jooris, and Purcell all get honorable mentions.

2015-16 NHL Season Day 24

Nine games on a busy Friday, but that will keep tomorrow in check. We begin with...

The Buffalo Sabres hosting the Philadelphia Flyers. Michal Neuvirth and Linus Ullmark are the backups in goal. Buffalo began in the first period on a Jack Eichel goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Ryan O'Reilly and Johan Larsson. The Sabres added on in the second period as O'Reilly scored a power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Brian Gionta and Cody Franson. Buffalo extended the lead in the third period on a Nicolas Deslauriers goal, his third of the season, via O'Reilly and Marcus Foligno. Philadelphia got on the board with a Mark Streit goal, his third of the year, coming off of R.J. Umberger and Sam Gagner. This made it 3-1, the final, with the three stars going to O'Reilly, Ullmark (27 for 28 in saves), and Deslauriers.

Down in Carolina, the Hurricanes welcome the Colorado Avalanche. Semyon Varlamov and Cam Ward are the inconsistent goalies. Colorado got going in the second period on an Alex Tanguay goal, his second of the season, fueled by Mikhail Grigorenko and Nathan MacKinnon. Carolina tied it on a Victor Rask goal, his fourth of the year, guided in by Kris Versteeg and Ryan Murphy. The Hurricanes took the lead with a Justin Faulk power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Murphy and Versteeg. Carolina added on with a Jeff Skinner goal in the third period, his second of the year, assisted by Riley Nash and Brett Pesce. The Avalanche countered on a Carl Soderberg goal, helped along by Gabriel Landeskog and Blake Comeau. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars given to Murphy, Versteeg, and Skinner.

Back north, the New York Rangers bring in the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jonathan Bernier and Henrik Lundqvist draw the starts. New York led off in the first period on a Mats Zuccarello goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Derick Brassard and Rick Nash. The Rangers added on with Zuccarello's second of the game and sixth of the year in the third period, coming off of Brassard and Nash. Toronto got on the board with a Joffrey Lupul goal, his third of the season, made possible by Dion Phaneuf and Morgan Rielly. New York iced it at 3-1 with Zuccarello completing his hat trick on an empty net goal, his seventh of the year, set up by Brassard and Nash, who both got sock tricks. The three stars were awarded to Zuccarello, Brassard, and Nash.

Over to DC, as the Washington Capitals host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky and Braden Holtby protect the nets. Washington dented the scoreboard in the second period on a Justin Williams goal, his second of the season, passed from Marcus Johansson and Karl Alzner. The Capitals added on with a third period goal by T.J. Oshie, his fourth of the year, via Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin. Columbus got on the board with a Matt Calvert goal, with assists provided by Boone Jenner and Kevin Connauton. They failed to tie it, losing 2-1, with the three stars going to Holtby (29 for 30 in saves), Oshie, and Williams.

West to Detroit, with the Red Wings welcoming the Ottawa Senators. Andrew Hammond and Jimmy Howard are in the blue paint. Ottawa struck first in the first period on a Kyle Turris goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Mark Stone. The Senators added on with a Matt Puempel goal in the second period, made possible by Bobby Ryan and Erik Karlsson. Detroit got on the board with a Henrik Zetterberg power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Teemu Pulkkinen and Gustav Nyquist. Ottawa iced it at 3-1 on a Ryan empty net goal in the third period, his third of the campaign, set up by Milan Michalek. The three stars were handed to Puempel, Ryan, and Hammond (29 for 30 in saves).

Calgary tied it in the second period as Jiri Hudler scored his fourth of the year, thanks to Sean Monahan and Mark Giordano. The Canadiens retook the lead on a Nathan Beaulieu power play goal, powered by Jeff Petry and Tomas Plekanec. The Flames tied it again on a Josh Jooris goal, via Johnny Gaudreau and Sam Bennett. Montreal pulled ahead with a Weise goal, his second of the game and fifth of the season, going in unassisted. The Canadiens added on with a Devante Smith-Pelly goal, passed from Paul Byron and Torrey Mitchell. Montreal extended the lead as Byron scored a shorthanded goal in the third period, set up by Mitchell and Petry. The Canadiens padded the lead with a Weise goal, completing his hat trick on his sixth of the year, with assists provided by Fleischmann and Desharnais. This produced the 6-2 final, with the three stars going to Weise, Byron, and Fleischmann, while Desharnais, Petry, and Mitchell get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Arizona Coyotes bring in the Vancouver Canucks. Richard Bachman is mismatched with Mike Smith in goal. Vancouver drew first blood in the first period on a Jared McCann goal, his fifth of the season, fueled by Adam Cracknell and Luca Sbisa. The Canucks added on with an Alexandre Burrows goal, his third of the year, via Jake Virtanen and Sbisa. Smith was replaced by Anders Lindback in goal. Vancouver extended the lead on a Brendan Gaunce goal, courtesy of Christopher Tanev and Alexander Edler. Arizona got on the board in the second period as Max Domi scored his fifth of the season, with the help of Mikkel Boedker and Antoine Vermette. The Coyotes pulled closer with a Steve Downie goal, helped along by Tyler Gaudet and Nicklas Grossmann. The Canucks shot back on a Daniel Sedin power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Radim Vrbata and Henrik Sedin. Arizona replied in the third period on a Tobias Rieder goal, his fourth of the season, passed from Vermette and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The three stars of the 4-3 game were Sbisa, Vermette, and Daniel Sedin.

2015/16 KHL Season - Day 67

Seven games today before the schedule slows down this weekend ahead of an international break. We start in...

Novokuznetsk, as Metallurg hosts Admiral Vladivostok. Ivan Nalimov and Andrei Kareyev are in goal. Novokuznetsk was first to score in the first period on a Maxim Kazakov goal, assisted by Kirill Kaprizov and Roman Manukhov. Vladivostok tied it on an Oskars Bartulis power play goal, powered by Niclas Bergfors and Jonathon Blum. Metallurg took the lead back in the second period with a Cade Fairchild goal, via Kaprizov and Kazakov on the power play. Novokuznetsk added on in the third period on a Ryan Stoa goal, with a lone assist by Kaprizov, who got a sock trick. Admiral pulled back with a Dmitry Sayustov goal, passed from Artyom Podshendyalov. Vladivostok tied it on an Alexander Gorshkov goal, fueled by Sayustov and Kirill Voronin. In the shootout, Gorshkov's lone tally won it 4-3 for Admiral. The three stars belonged to Kaprizov, Gorshkov, and Sayustov, while Kazakov gets an honorable mention.

Nearby, Sibir Novosibirsk welcomes Amur Khabarovsk. Juha Metsola and Alexander Salak protect the nets. Khabarovsk struck first in the first period on an Oleg Li goal, coming off of Vitaly Atyushov and Vyacheslav Ushenin. Novosibirsk tied it on a David Ullstrom goal in the third period, made possible by Sergei Gimayev and Maxim Ignatovich. Sibir took the lead as Ullstrom scored again, thanks to Gimayev and Calle Ridderwall. The final held at 2-1, with the three stars awarded to Ullstrom, Salak (22 for 23 in saves), and Gimayev.

Westward to Nizhny Novgorod, where Torpedo brings in Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Vasily Koshechkin and Ilya Proskuryakov are in the blue paint. Magnitogorsk opened in the first period on an Evgeny Timkin goal, via Denis Platonov. Nizhny Novgorod tied it on a Kaspars Daugavins goal, guided in by Dmitry Semin and Alexei Sopin. Metallurg retook the lead on a Sergei Mozyakin goal in the second period, assisted by Tomas Filippi and Bogdan Potekhin. Magnitogorsk added on in the third period with a Filippi goal, courtesy of Oskar Osala. Torpedo shot back on a Semin goal, coming off of Sopin and Daugavins. Metallurg iced it at 4-2 with a shorthanded empty net goal by Chris Lee, set up by Jan Kovar. The three stars went to Filippi, Semin, and Daugavins, while Sopin gets an honorable mention.

Out in Belarus, Dinamo Minsk hosts Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Niklas Svedberg and Jeff Glass are in the creases. Ufa led off in the first period on a Denis Khlystov goal, fueled by Sergei Soin and Alexander Nesterov. Salavat Yulaev added on with an Andreas Engqvist power play goal, powered by Sami Lepisto and Igor Grigorenko. Minsk got on the board with a Matt Ellison goal in the second period, courtesy of Nick Bailen and Ryan Gunderson. Ufa replied on a Linus Omark goal, coming off of Lepisto and Dmitry Makarov. Salavat Yulaev extended the lead as Omark scored in the third period, with the help of Engqvist and Grigorenko. Ufa padded the lead with a shorthanded goal by Makarov, set up by Teemu Hartikainen and Zakhar Arzamastsev. Back in Russia, Severstal Cherepovets brings in Dynamo Moscow. Alexander Yeryomenko and Sergei Magarilov are the goalies. Severstal added on with a Daniil Vovchenko goal in the third period, helped along by Pavel Buchnevich and Ilya Khokhlov. Cherepovets extended the lead on a Vovchenko power play goal, with a lone assist by Ondrej Nemec. Moscow got on the board with a Denis Barantsev power play goal, powered by Juuso Hietanen. Dynamo got closer with a Denis Kokarev power play goal, with an assist from Martins Karsums. Severstal finished it at 4-2 with an Igor Skorokhodov empty net goal, set up by Sergei Monakhov and Evgeny Kovyrshin. The three stars went to Vovchenko, Kagarlitsky, and Kokarev.

Back out west, Medvescak Zagreb welcomes Lada Togliatti. Edgars Masalskis and Gasper Kroselj receive the starting nods. Togliatti began in the first period on a Dmitry Vorobyov power play goal, powered by Alexander Bolshakov and Georgy Belousov. Lada added on with a power play goal by Martin Zatovic in the second period, with a lone helper by Yefim Gurkin. Danny Taylor relieved Kroselj in goal. Zagreb got on the board with an Andreas Jamtin goal, via Patrick Bjorkstrand. Togliatti shot back with an Anton Krysanov goal, courtesy of Belousov on the power play. Lada won 4-1 on an empty net goal by Anton Shenfeld in the third period, going in unassisted. The three stars went to Belousov, Masalskis (24 for 25 in saves), and Zatovic.

Finally, Slovan Bratislava hosts Ak Bars Kazan. Emil Garipov and Barry Brust are between the pipes. Kazan drew first blood in the first period on a Vladimir Tkachyov goal, assisted by Mikhail Glukhov and Yakov Rylov. Bratislava tied it with a Cam Barker goal in the second period, coming off of Lukas Kaspar on the power play. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Tkachyov and Fyodor Malykhin lifted Ak Bars to a 2-1 win over a lone tally by Slovan's Ziga Jeglic. The three stars went to Tkachyov, Garipov (31 for 32 in saves), and Brust (19 for 20 in saves).

MLS Playoff Knockout Round 2015

Four games in this year's knockout round, beginning with...

DC United hosting the New England Revolution on Wednesday night. Bobby Shuttleworth and Bill Hamid are in goal. New England was first to score in the fifteenth minute on a Juan Agudelo goal, via Kevin Alston. In the forty-fourth minute, Andrew Farrell of the Revolution had a yellow card for a foul. Westward, the Seattle Sounders FC welcome the Los Angeles Galaxy. Donovan Ricketts and Stefan Frei are the veteran keepers. Seattle led off with a fifth minute Clint Dempsey goal. Los Angeles tied it in the sixth minute on a Sebastian Lletget goal, set up by Gyasi Zardes and Giovani dos Santos. The Sounders took the lead with a Nelson Valdez goal in the twelfth minute, passed from Andreas Ivanschitz. The Galaxy tied it in the twenty-second minute on a Zardes goal, courtesy of Juninho. Omar Gonzalez of Los Angeles took a yellow card for a forty-fourth minute foul. Seattle took another lead on a seventy-third minute Erik Friberg goal. The Galaxy had a yellow card given to Baggio Husidic for a foul in the seventy-eighth minute. In stoppage time, the Sounders' keeper Frei received a yellow card for time wasting. The final held at 3-2, with the man of the match being Friberg for his winner.

On Thursday, the Canadian battle with the Montreal Impact bringing in Toronto FC led off the slate. Chris Konopka and Evan Bush are the keepers. In the eighteenth minute, Montreal struck first with a Patrice Bernier goal, set up by Ignacio Piatti. The Impact added on with Piatti's goal in the thirty-third minute. Montreal extended the lead as Didier Drogba scored in the thirty-ninth minute, via Bernier. In the eighty-seventh minute, Toronto had a yellow card go to Marco Delgado for a foul. The final stayed at 3-0, with the man of the match being Bernier for a goal and assist.

The final knockout round game has the Portland Timbers hosting Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and Adam Larsen Kwarasey are in the six-yard boxes. Kansas City took a yellow card for an eleventh minute foul by Kevin Ellis. Dominic Dwyer of Sporting had a yellow card for his persistent infringement in the thirty-fifth minute. Portland's Liam Ridgewell took a yellow card for a foul in the thirty-eighth minute. In the fifty-seventh minute, the Timbers began with a Rodney Wallace goal, set up by Diego Valeri. Wallace took a yellow card for his foul in the sixty-ninth minute for Portland. Kansas City saw yellow cards in the seventy-sixth minute for a foul by Krisztian Nemeth and dissent by Amadou Dia. Melia came out in the eighty-fourth minute, and Sporting's Jon Kempin came on in goal. In the eighty-seventh minute, Kansas City equalized with an Ellis goal, via Graham Zusi. The tie went into overtime. Saad Abdul-Salaam of Sporting had a yellow card for his ninety-third minute foul. Kansas City took the lead on a Nemeth goal in the ninety-sixth minute, assisted by Dia. The Timbers saw a yellow card for George Fochive in the 107th minute. Portland's Valeri had a yellow card for his foul in the 115th minute. The Timbers tied it in the 118th minute on a Maximiliano Urruti goal, coming off of Dairon Asprilla. In the shootouts, the goals came from Benny Feilhaber, Zusi, Paulo Nagamura, Soni Mustivar, Jacob Peterson, and Dia for Sporting, while the Timbers saw Nat Borchers, Ridgewell, Urruti, Asprilla, Darlington Nagbe, Fochive, and the keeper Kwarasey score to win 3-2, with the score of 7-6 on penalty kicks. The man of the match can only be Kwarasey, for stopping enough shots to get this far and then burying the decisive one for the Timbers to advance.

The Islanders took the lead in the second period as Frans Nielsen scored his fourth of the year, a power play goal powered by Leddy and the goalie Greiss. The Hurricanes tied it in the third period on a Chris Terry goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Jordan Staal and Eric Staal. Carolina won 3-2 in overtime on a Ron Hainsey goal, his second of the year, with a lone assist by Jordan Staal. The three stars went to Jordan Staal, Hainsey, and Leddy.

Over in Philadelphia, the Flyers welcome the New Jersey Devils. Cory Schneider and Steve Mason protect the nets. Philadelphia got going in the second period on a Luke Schenn goal, made possible by Vincent Lecavalier and Brayden Schenn. New Jersey tied it on a Travis Zajac power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Kyle Palmieri and Jacob Josefson. The Devils took the lead in the third period on a Palmieri goal, his third of the year, going in unassisted. New Jersey added on with another Zajac power play goal, his second of the game and fourth of the campaign, assisted by Palmieri and Eric Gelinas. Across Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Penguins host the Buffalo Sabres. Chad Johnson and Jeff Zatkoff are the mediocre goalies. Northwest to St. Louis, where the Blues host the Anaheim Ducks. Frederik Andersen and Jake Allen receive the starting nods in goal. Anaheim dented the scoreboard in the second period on a Hampus Lindholm power play goal, his second of the season, via Corey Perry and Kevin Bieksa. St. Louis tied it on a Vladimir Tarasenko goal, his sixth of the year, fueled by Jori Lehtera and Steve Ott. The Blues took the lead in the third period on a Colton Parayko goal, his fourth of the campaign, guided in by Ty Rattie and Scott Gomez. This stood for a 2-1 win, with the three stars being Allen (22 for 23 in saves), Parayko, and Tarasenko.

Up in Canada, the Winnipeg Jets welcome the Chicago Blackhawks. Corey Crawford and Michael Hutchinson are in the blue paint. Finally, the Edmonton Oilers bring in the Montreal Canadiens. Carey Price and Cam Talbot man the nets. Montreal started in the first period on a Brendan Gallagher goal, his fifth of the season, a power play goal powered by P.K. Subban and Tomas Plekanec. The Canadiens added on with a Torrey Mitchell goal, his fifth of the year, via Devante Smith-Pelly. Sochi got on the board with an unassisted Roman Lyuduchin goal in the second period. The Leopards pulled closer with an Andrei Kostitsyn goal, coming off of Ilya Krikunov. Calgary got going in the second period on a Dougie Hamilton goal, his second of the season, assisted by Jiri Hudler and Deryk Engelland. Ottawa tied it on a Zack Smith goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. The Senators took the lead on a Bobby Ryan goal, his second of the season, via Kyle Turris and Marc Methot. The Flames retied it in the third period as Joe Colborne scored his second of the year, with the help of Sean Monahan and Hudler. Calgary took the lead on a Kris Russell goal, courtesy of Sam Bennett and Michael Frolik. Ottawa evened the score on a Turris goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Mark Stone and Erik Karlsson. The Senators pulled ahead as Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored his third of the year, thanks to Milan Michalek and Alex Chiasson. Novokuznetsk tied it in the second period as Robert Kousal scored, thanks to Andrei Karavayev. Amur retook the lead in the third period on an unassisted goal by Maxim Veryovkin. Metallurg tied it again with a Maxim Kazakov goal, passed from Roman Manukhov and Alexander Romanov. The tie went to a shootout, where Vyacheslav Ushenin's two tallies beat the one from Alexander Komaristy, lifting Khabarovsk to a 3-2 win. Ten games going today, beginning in...

Boston, with the Bruins hosting the Arizona Coyotes. Mike Smith and Tuukka Rask man the nets. Boston started in the first period on a David Krejci goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Loui Eriksson and Torey Krug. The Bruins added on with a Jimmy Hayes goal in the second period, his third of the year, assisted by Matt Beleskey and Ryan Spooner. Boston extended the lead as Joe Morrow scored, thanks to Beleskey. The Bruins padded the lead on a third period goal by Brett Connolly, his third of the season, made possible by Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. Boston kept going with a Marchand power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Colin Miller and Hayes. The Bruins finished it at 6-0 with a Krejci goal, his second of the game and seventh of the campaign, set up by Hayes and Eriksson. The Hurricanes took the lead back on an unassisted Ron Hainsey goal in the third period. South to Florida, with the Panthers welcoming the Colorado Avalanche. Reto Berra and Roberto Luongo are between the pipes. Florida led off in the first period on a Vincent Trocheck power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Brian Campbell and the goalie Luongo. The Panthers added on with Trocheck's second power play goal of the game and fourth of the year in the third period, assisted by Dmitry Kulikov and Brian Campbell. Winnipeg drew first blood in the second period on an unassisted Nikolaj Ehlers goal, his fourth of the season. Los Angeles tied it on a Jake Muzzin goal, courtesy of Dustin Brown and Drew Doughty. The Kings took the lead in the third period on a Milan Lucic goal, his second of the year, passed from Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Carter. Los Angeles added on with a Toffoli empty net goal, his seventh of the campaign, set up by Marian Gaborik. The Kings iced it at 4-1 with a Trevor Lewis empty net goal, with a lone assist by Carter. The Islanders added on with a Frans Nielsen goal in the third period, his second of the year, guided in by Nikolay Kulemin and Kyle Okposo. New York extended the lead as Cal Clutterbuck scored his third of the season, thanks to Casey Cizikas. The Islanders padded the lead on a Okposo goal, his fourth of the year, fueled by Kulemin. As is standard in soccer, we have all ten games on the same day so that competition remains high. We begin with the Eastern Conference, where four games went simultaneously. First on the list...

The Columbus Crew host DC United. Bill Hamid and Steve Clark are the veteran goalies. Columbus was first to score with a twenty-fifth minute goal by Jack McInerney, set up by Mohammed Saeid. The Crew added on with a Justin Meram goal in the fifty-fourth minute, via Michael Parkhurst. DC had a yellow card go to Taylor Kemp for his fifty-eighth minute foul. Columbus' McInerney received a yellow card for his fifty-ninth minute foul. The Crew extended the lead as Ethan Finlay scored in the sixty-sixth minute, thanks to McInerney and Wil Trapp. In the sixty-seventh minute, Columbus got another goal from Finlay, with an assist by Tony Tchani. The Crew padded the lead in the eightieth minute on an Aaron Schoenfeld goal, helped along by Waylon Francis. The final stood at 5-0, with the man of the match being Finlay for a brace.

Back east, New York City FC welcomes the New England Revolution. Bobby Shuttleworth and Josh Saunders are in goal. New England struck first in the second minute on a Lee Nguyen goal, assisted by Charlie Davies. The Revolution added on with a Davies goal in the thirty-eighth minute, coming off of Jose Goncalves. New England extended the lead as Kelyn Rowe scored in the fifty-fifth minute, thanks to Chris Tierney. New York City had yellow cards go to Kwame Watson-Siriboe in the seventy-seventh minute and Thomas McNamara in the eighty-sixth minute, both for fouls. The Revolution's Diego Fagundez had a yellow card for his eighty-eighth minute foul. In stoppage time, New York City escaped a shutout on a David Villa penalty kick goal. The final stood at 3-1, with Davies named man of the match.

Along to Philadelphia, where the Union bring in Orlando City SC. Josh Ford and Andre Blake are set to start in goal. Richie Marquez of Philadelphia had a yellow card for his foul in the fifteenth minute. Orlando City saw yellow cards given to Brek Shea in the twentieth minute and Darwin Ceren in the thirty-eighth minute, both for fouls. The Union capitalized on a penalty kick goal by Sebastien Le Toux in the forty-first minute to take the initial lead. Luke Boden of Orlando City picked up a yellow card for a forty-second minute foul. Orlando City's Adrian Winter took a yellow card for a fiftieth minute foul. Philadelphia saw a yellow card go to Raymon Gaddis in the fifty-ninth minute. Orlando City saw three more yellow cards, assessed to Rafael Ramos in the sixty-ninth minute for a foul and twice to Cristian Higuita for his fouls in the seventy-second and eighty-sixth minutes. The Union's Vincent Nogueira had a yellow card for his eighty-eighth minute foul. Philadelphia took the game 1-0, and Blake is the man of the match for a five-save clean sheet.

Into Canada, where the Montreal Impact host Toronto FC. Chris Konopka and Evan Bush man the nets. Toronto's Jackson had a yellow card for his twenty-seventh minute foul. Toronto led off in the forty-fifth minute with a Jozy Altidore goal, passed from Sebastian Giovinco. Montreal tied it on a fifty-fourth minute Didier Drogba goal, courtesy of Ignacio Piatti. The Impact took the lead in the fifty-fifth minute on another Drogba goal, assisted by Marco Donadel and Piatti. Montreal's Victor Cabrera had a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final held at 2-1 for the Impact, and Drogba's brace made him the man of the match.

At the Western Conference's time, the Portland Timbers welcome the Colorado Rapids. Zac MacMath and Adam Larsen Kwarasey are the goalies. Portland began in the fifth minute with a Darlington Nagbe goal. Colorado tied it on a Dominique Badji goal in the thirteenth minute. Alvas Powell of the Timbers had a yellow card for his foul in the twenty-fourth minute. Portland retook the lead in the thirty-third minute on a Nagbe goal, coming off of Lucas Melano. The Rapids took yellow cards for fouls by Dillon Powers in the fortieth minute and Lucas Pittinari in the forty-fourth minute. In the fifty-third minute, the Timbers had a yellow card given to Melano for a foul. Portland added on in the sixty-third minute as Jorge Villafana goal, passed from Nagbe and Rodney Wallace. The Timbers extended the lead with a Fanendo Adi goal in the eighty-eighth minute, via Dairon Asprilla and George Fochive. The final stood at 4-1, with the man of the match being Nagbe for his brace and assist.

Up in Vancouver, the Whitecaps FC bring in the Houston Dynamo. Joe Willis and David Ousted are in the six-yard boxes. Houston's Luis Garrido picked up a yellow card for a fifty-second minute foul. Vancouver got going in the fifty-ninth minute on a Kekuta Manneh goal, via Gershon Koffie and Matias Laba. In the seventy-second minute, the Whitecaps added on with a Kendall Waston goal, made possible by Cristian Techera. Vancouver had a yellow card for an eighty-fourth minute Manneh foul. The Whitecaps iced it at 3-0 on a Robert Earnshaw stoppage time goal, coming off of Mauro Rosales. The man of the match was Manneh for his winner.

Southeast to Kansas City, where Sporting hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy. Donovan Ricketts and Tim Melia receive the starting nods in goal. Kansas City had a yellow card go to Dominic Dwyer for a seventeenth minute argument. Los Angeles saw A.J. DeLaGarza take a yellow card for his foul in the twenty-fourth minute. Sporting opened in the thirty-eighth minute on a Kevin Ellis goal. The Galaxy tied it on a first half stoppage time goal by Robbie Keane, assisted by Giovani dos Santos. Chance Myers of Kansas City took a yellow card for a fifty-eighth minute foul. Sporting took the lead on a Dwyer goal in the sixty-fifth minute, courtesy of Benny Feilhaber. Kansas City's Paulo Nagamura took a yellow card for his foul in the sixty-sixth minute. Sporting had another yellow card in second half stoppage time as Feilhaber was caught time wasting. Kansas City claimed a 2-1 win, with Dwyer as the man of the match.

The east gets one last look, with the Chicago Fire welcoming the New York Red Bulls. Luis Robles faces a lesser foe in Alec Kann in goal. New York started in the eighth minute on a Bradley Wright-Phillips goal, assisted by Sal Zizzo and Sacha Kljestan. The Red Bulls added on with a thirty-fifth minute penalty kick goal by Kljestan. Chicago saw yellow cards given to Matt Polster in the seventy-first minute and Jeff Larentowicz in the seventy-fourth minute, both for fouls. The Fire got on the board with a Gilberto goal in the seventy-eighth minute, set up by Patrick Nyarko and Patrick Doody. The final rested at 2-1, with the man of the match being Kljestan for his goal and assist.

Back in the northwest, the Seattle Sounders FC brings in Real Salt Lake. Jeff Attinella and Stefan Frei are the gloved men. Seattle drew first blood with a Clint Dempsey goal in the fifth minute, via Obafemi Martins and Leonardo Gonzalez. The Sounders added on with a tenth minute Marco Pappa goal, set up by Dempsey. Seattle extended the lead as Dempsey scored again in the twentieth minute. Salt Lake had a yellow card for a forty-third minute foul by Juan Manuel Martinez. Real had another yellow card in the fifty-fifth minute on a John Stertzer foul. Salt Lake got on the board in the seventy-seventh minute with a Luis Gil goal, assisted by Tony Beltran and Javier Morales. In the eighty-ninth minute, Sebastian Jaime took a yellow card for his foul for Real. The Sounders won 3-1, with Dempsey's brace and assist putting him as the man of the match.

Finally, the regular season closes with FC Dallas hosting the San Jose Earthquakes. David Bingham and Jesse Gonzalez draw the starts in goal. San Jose dented the scoreboard in the thirteenth minute on a Quincy Amarikwa goal, courtesy of Chris Wondolowski and Fatai Alashe. The Earthquakes had a yellow card for a twenty-seventh minute foul by Victor Bernardez. In the thirty-eighth minute, Dallas tied it on a Mauro Diaz goal. In the sixty-seventh minute, Dallas' Diaz went in the book for his foul, drawing a yellow card, but San Jose watched their season die when Matias Perez Garcia's violent conduct earned him a red card as the visitors go to ten men. The Earthquakes had yellow cards for Marc Pelosi in the seventy-first minute and Clarence Goodson in the seventy-fourth minute, both for fouls. Dallas took the lead on a seventy-ninth minute goal from Victor Ulloa, with an assist from Fabian Castillo. The final remained at 2-1, with Ulloa the man of the match for his winner.

All teams are in action this weekend, beginning with six Saturday games. We start with...

Aston Villa hosting Swansea City. Lukasz Fabianski and Brad Guzan are in the six-yard boxes. Swansea City saw a twenty-ninth minute yellow card go to Kyle Naughton for a foul. Aston Villa had a yellow card for a thirty-first minute foul from Ashley Williams. In the sixty-second minute, Aston Villa got going with a Jordan Ayew goal, made possible by Gabriel Agbonlahor. Swansea City tied it on a sixty-eighth minute Gylfi Sigurdsson goal. Swansea City took a yellow card for a seventy-third minute Sigurdsson foul. Aston Villa had a yellow card go to Kieran Richardson in the seventy-seventh minute for his foul. Swansea City took the lead as Andre Ayew scored in the eighty-seventh minute, thanks to Naughton. The final held at 2-1 for Swansea City.

Up north a bit, Leicester City welcomes Crystal Palace. Wayne Hennessey and Kasper Schmeichel are in goal. In the fifty-ninth minute, Leicester City dented the scoreboard on a Jamie Vardy goal, passed from Riyad Mahrez. Leicester City had yellow cards given to Danny Simpson in the sixty-fifth minute and Jeffrey Schlupp in the sixty-seventh minute, both for fouls. Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace had a yellow card for his eighty-seventh minute offense. In the ninetieth minute, Vardy received a yellow card for his foul. Leicester City held on for a 1-0 win.

Along to Norwich City bringing in West Bromwich Albion. Boaz Myhill and John Ruddy are between the posts. Norwich City took a yellow card for a twenty-second minute foul by Jonny Howson. West Bromwich Albion struck first in the forty-sixth minute on a goal by Salomon Rondon, set up by James McClean. West Bromwich Albion had yellow cards go to Chris Brunt in the seventy-second minute and McClean in the seventy-eighth minute, both for fouls. West Bromwich Albion held on for a 1-0 win.

Next up, Stoke City hosts Watford. Heurelho Gomes and Jack Butland are the goalies. Watford was first to score in the forty-third minute on a Troy Deeney goal, coming off of Odion Ighalo. In the sixty-ninth minute, Almen Abdi scored for Watford, adding onto their lead with the help of Ighalo. Stoke City had a yellow card go to Glenn Whelan in the seventy-seventh minute for a foul. In the eighty-ninth minute, Watford's Ighalo and Stoke City's Erik Pieters received yellow cards for arguing. Charlie Adam of Stoke City received a yellow card for his ninetieth minute foul. Watford took the game 2-0.

Back to West Ham United welcoming Chelsea. Asmir Begovic and Adrian are the gloved men. West Ham United led off in the seventeenth minute on a Mauro Zarate goal. Chelsea had yellow cards for Cesar Azpilicueta in the twenty-fourth minute, Nemanja Matic in the thirty-fifth minute, Matic again in the forty-fourth minute, and Diego Costa in the forty-fifth minute, all for fouls. In the fifty-sixth minute, Gary Cahill tied it for Chelsea, with the help of Kurt Zouma. Cheikhou Kouyate of West Ham United took a yellow card for his seventy-fourth minute foul. West Ham United retook the lead in the seventy-ninth minute on an Andy Carroll goal, courtesy of Aaron Cresswell. At the eighty-one minute mark, Chelsea's Willian took a yellow card for a foul. Chelsea had another yellow card in stoppage time for John Obi Mikel's foul. West Ham United claimed the win 2-1.

Saturday ends in London, with Arsenal bringing in Everton. Tim Howard and Petr Cech are the keepers. In the twenty-fifth minute, Francis Coquelin of Arsenal received a yellow card for his foul. Arsenal began in the thirty-sixth minute on an Olivier Giroud goal, via Mesut Ozil. Arsenal added on with a Laurent Koscielny goal, passed from Santiago Cazorla. Everton got on the board with a forty-fourth minute goal by Ross Barkley, coming off of Gerard Deulofeu. In the sixty-seventh minute, Gareth Barry received a yellow card for his foul for Everton. Arsenal had a yellow card go to Giroud for a sixty-ninth minute foul. In stoppage time, Everton went down to ten men when Barry took another yellow card for a foul. Arsenal sealed the win at 2-1.

Sunday's four games begin with Sunderland hosting Newcastle United. Robert Elliot and Costel Pantilimon are set to start in goal. In the fourteenth minute, Newcastle United had a yellow card go to Cheick Tiote for a foul. Newcastle United went down to ten men in first half stoppage time as Fabricio Coloccini took a straight red card for a foul in the box. Sunderland capitalized with a penalty kick goal by Adam Johnson. Sunderland added on in the sixty-fifth minute with a Billy Jones goal, passed from Yann M'Vila. Sunderland extended the lead with a Steven Fletcher goal in the eighty-sixth minute, made possible by Younes Kaboul. The final stood at 3-0 for Sunderland.

Next up, Bournemouth welcomes Tottenham Hotspur. Hugo Lloris and Artur Boruc man the nets. Bournemouth opened with a Matt Ritchie goal in the first minute, made possible by Charlie Daniels. Tottenham Hotspur tied it on a ninth minute penalty kick goal by Harry Kane. Tottenham Hotspur added on with a Mousa Dembele goal in the seventeenth minute. At the twenty-nine minute mark, Tottenham Hotspur extended the lead on an Erik Lamela goal. In the thirty-first minute, Danny Rose of Tottenham Hotspur took a yellow card for his foul. In the fifty-sixth minute, Tottenham Hotspur padded the lead as Kane scored, with the help of Christian Eriksen. Kane completed his hat trick for Tottenham Hotspur in the sixty-third minute, making it 5-0, the eventual final.

Up in Manchester, United brings in City for the cross-town derby. Joe Hart and David de Gea are the reliable keepers. In the fifteenth minute, Manchester City had a yellow card go to Fernandinho for a foul. Juan Mata of Manchester United had a yellow card for his foul in the thirty-ninth minute. In the forty-fifth minute, Vincent Kompany received a yellow card for his foul for Manchester City. Manchester United's Morgan Schneiderlin had a yellow card for an eighty-ninth minute foul.

Finally, Liverpool hosts Southampton. Maarten Stekelenburg and Simon Mignolet are the gloved men. Liverpool started in the seventy-seventh minute with a Christian Benteke goal, assisted by James Milner. In the eighty-fifth minute, Milner took a yellow card for his foul for Liverpool. In the eighty-sixth minute, Sadio Mane leveled for Southampton, via Gaston Ramirez. In stoppage time, Mane had two separate yellow cards for Southampton, putting them at ten men for a few seconds before the game went final at 1-1.

Togliatti, with Lada hosting Traktor Chelyabinsk. Vasily Demchenko and Edgars Masalskis get the starts in goal. Togliatti opened in the first period on a Denis Guryanov goal, passed from Martin Zatovic and Tobias Viklund. Lada added on with an Anton Krysanov goal, assisted by Anton Shenfeld and Georgy Belousov. Chelyabinsk got on the board with a second period power play goal by Andrei Popov, powered by Dmitry Pestunov and Yegor Martynov. Traktor tied it with a Filip Novak goal, coming off of Anton Glinkin and Popov. Togliatti regained the lead in the third period as Dmitry Vorobyov scored, thanks to Belousov. Lada iced it at 4-2 with a Viklund empty net goal, set up by Zatovic and Belousov, the latter getting a sock trick. The three stars went to Belousov, Viklund, and Popov, while Zatovic gets an honorable mention.

Over to Moscow, Dynamo welcomes the Sochi Leopards. Konstantin Barulin faces a lesser foe in Alexander Sharychenkov in goal. Sochi started with a Ben Maxwell goal, via Evgeny Skachkov. The Leopards added on with a Renat Mamashev goal, passed from Mikhail Anisin and Vladimir Malevich on the power play. Moscow got on the board with a Mat Robinson goal, courtesy of Konstantin Gorovikov and Ansel Galimov. Dynamo tied it on a Dmitry Vishnevsky shorthanded goal in the second period, set up by Martins Karsums and Ilya Nikulin. Sochi retook the lead on an Andrei Kostitsyn goal, guided in by Igor Ignatushkin and Ilya Krikunov. The Leopards won 4-2 with an Anisin empty net goal, with a lone helper by Pyotr Schastlivy. The three stars went to Anisin, Kostitsyn, and Barulin (25 for 27 in saves).

Over to Kazan, with Ak Bars bringing in Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. Alexander Sudnitsin and Jussi Rynnas receive the starting nods. Nizhnekamsk got going in the second period on a Maxim Rybin power play goal, powered by Andrei Stas. Kazan tied it with a Vladimir Tkachyov goal, passed from Andrei Chibisov and Vasily Tokranov. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Oscar Moller and Tkachyov tallying to give Ak Bars the 2-1 win. The three stars belonged to Tkachyov, Rynnas (29 for 30 in saves), and Sudnitsin (40 for 41 in saves).

Finally, Vityaz Podolsk hosts Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Vitaly Kolesnik and Harri Sateri are the masked men. Yaroslavl drew first blood with a first period power play goal by Jonas Enlund, powered by Daniil Apalkov and Vladislav Kartayev. Podolsk tied it on a second period goal by Maxim Afinogenov, courtesy of Roman Horak and Teemu Eronen. Lokomotiv took the lead back on a power play goal by Enlund, his second of the game, via Petri Kontiola and Apalkov. Vityaz retied it again on an unassisted Mario Kempe goal, coming shorthanded. Twelve games to play on the biggest day of the week, starting with a slightly early game in...

Minnesota, where the Wild host the Anaheim Ducks. Frederik Andersen and Devan Dubnyk draw the starts in goal. Minnesota led off in the first period on a Matt Dumba goal, via Jason Zucker and Mikko Koivu. The Wild added on in the second period as Thomas Vanek scored his fourth of the season, with the help of Nino Niederreiter and Jared Spurgeon. Minnesota extended the lead on a Ryan Carter shorthanded goal, set up by Justin Fontaine and Spurgeon. This made it 3-0, the final, with the three stars going to Spurgeon, Dubnyk (15 save shutout), and Dumba. 

Back east, the Buffalo Sabres welcome the New Jersey Devils. Cory Schneider faces a lesser foe in Linus Ullmark in goal. Buffalo struck first in the first period on a Tyler Ennis power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Cody Franson and Ryan O'Reilly. New Jersey tied it on an Adam Henrique goal, his fifth of the year, via Mike Cammalleri and Lee Stempniak. The Sabres retook the lead in the second period with an O'Reilly goal, his third of the season, guided in by Sam Reinhart and Ennis. The Devils tied it again on a Cammalleri goal, his third of the year, with a lone assist by Sergey Kalinin. New Jersey took the lead on a David Schlemko goal, passed from Cammalleri and Henrique. The Devils added on in the third period with a shorthanded and unassisted Henrique goal, his second of the game and sixth of the season. Buffalo got one back with a Jack Eichel power play goal, his third of the year, helped along by O'Reilly. The three stars of the 4-3 game went to Henrique, Cammalleri, and O'Reilly, while Ennis and Franson take the honorable mentions.

Along to Quebec, where the Montreal Canadiens bring in the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jonathan Bernier and Carey Price are the masked men. Montreal was first to score in the first period on a P.K. Subban power play goal, powered by Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec. The Canadiens added on in the second period on a Lars Eller goal, his third of the season, with a lone helper by Alex Galchenyuk. Toronto got on the board with a Leo Komarov goal, his fourth of the year, fueled by James van Riemsdyk and Scott Harrington. Montreal countered with a David Desharnais goal, his second of the season, coming off of Tomas Fleischmann and Dale Weise. The Maple Leafs replied with a van Riemsdyk goal, his third of the year, passed from Dion Phaneuf and Komarov. The Canadiens responded on a Pacioretty shorthanded goal, his seventh of the season, going in unassisted. Montreal extended the lead as Brendan Gallagher scored his fourth of the year, a power play goal guided in by Subban and Andrei Markov. Toronto fired back in the third period on a Morgan Rielly goal, via Brad Boyes. This only made it 5-3, the final, with the three stars going to Subban, Pacioretty, and Komarov, while van Riemsdyk gets an honorable mention.

In Ontario, the Ottawa Senators host the Arizona Coyotes. Anders Lindback and Craig Anderson will man the creases. Arizona opened in the first period on a Mikkel Boedker goal, his second of the season, with a lone assist by Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Ottawa tied it in the second period on a Cody Ceci goal, passed from Bobby Ryan and Mark Stone. The Coyotes retook the lead in the third period on a Brad Richardson goal, courtesy of Jordan Martinook and Klas Dahlbeck. Arizona added on with a Boedker goal, his second of the game and third of the year, going in unassisted. The Coyotes extended the lead on a Boedker empty net goal to complete his hat trick on his fourth of the campaign, set up by Max Domi and Kyle Chipchura. The three stars went to Boedker, Lindback (35 for 36 in saves), and Richardson.

Back stateside, the Philadelphia Flyers welcome the New York Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist and Steve Mason receive the starting nods in goal. Philadelphia began in the first period on a Mark Streit goal, his second of the season, assisted by Wayne Simmonds and Sam Gagner. New York tied it with a J.T. Miller goal, coming off of Oscar Lindberg and Keith Yandle. The Flyers retook the lead on a Scott Laughton goal in the second period, going in unassisted. The Rangers retied it on a Derick Brassard power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Kevin Hayes and Chris Kreider. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Gagner and Claude Giroux pulled Philadelphia to a 3-2 win over a lone tally from New York's Derek Stepan. The three stars went to Gagner, Mason (37 for 39 in saves), and Lundqvist (46 for 48 in saves).

South to Dallas, where the Stars bring in the Florida Panthers. Al Montoya and Kari Lehtonen are in the creases. Dallas started in the first period on a Jamie Benn power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Tyler Seguin and John Klingberg. Florida tied it on a Jaromir Jagr goal, his sixth of the year, guided in by Jonathan Huberdeau and Willie Mitchell. The Panthers took the lead on a Nick Bjugstad goal, his third of the season, with a lone assist by Huberdeau. Florida added on with an Aaron Ekblad goal, passed from Bjugstad and Jagr. Antti Niemi took over for Lehtonen in goal. The Panthers extended the lead as Dave Bolland scored, thanks to Dmitry Kulikov and Jussi Jokinen. The Stars got one back on a Benn goal, his second of the game and eighth of the year, assisted by Seguin and Alex Goligoski. Back up in St. Louis, the Blues host the New York Islanders. Thomas Greiss is 200 feet away from Brian Elliott. New York led off in the first period on a Kyle Okposo power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Nick Leddy and Frans Nielsen. The Islanders added on with a second period goal from John Tavares, his fifth of the year, guided in by Nikolay Kulemin and Josh Bailey. St. Louis got on the board in the third period on a Colton Parayko goal, his third of the season, courtesy of Steve Ott. The Blues tied it on an Alexander Steen goal, his fourth of the year, with assists provided by Parayko and Jori Lehtera. New York won 3-2 in overtime with a Mikhail Grabovski goal, helped along by Nielsen. The three stars went to Parayko, Nielsen, and Grabovski.

Over to Nashville, with the Predators welcoming the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marc-Andre Fleury and Pekka Rinne tend the twines. Pittsburgh got going in the second period on a Chris Kunitz goal, assisted by Evgeni Malkin and Matt Cullen. Nashville tied it in the third period with a James Neal goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Mike Ribeiro and Barret Jackman. The Penguins won 2-1 in overtime on a Phil Kessel goal, his third of the year, with a lone assist by Malkin. The three stars were handed to Fleury (38 for 39 in saves), Kessel, and Malkin.

Along to Chicago, with the Blackhawks bringing in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kristers Gudlevskis and Corey Crawford have the green light to play goal. Chicago dented the scoreboard for a 1-0 overtime win on a Jonathan Toews goal, assisted by Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook. The three stars were awarded to Toews, Crawford (21 save shutout), and Gudlevskis (31 for 32 in saves).

Out to Colorado, where the Avalanche host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky and Semyon Varlamov are the Russian goalies. Colorado began in the first period with a Jack Skille goal, his second of the season, made possible by Nick Holden. Columbus tied it on a Boone Jenner goal, his fourth of the year, going in unassisted. The Blue Jackets took the lead as Jenner scored his second of the game and fifth of the season, a power play goal powered by David Savard and Ryan Murray. The Avalanche retied it in the second period on a Jarome Iginla goal, his third of the year, via Blake Comeau and Matt Duchene. Colorado took the lead on a Nathan MacKinnon power play goal, his third of the season, assisted by Iginla and Francois Beauchemin. Columbus retied it in the third period with a Murray goal, passed from Rene Bourque and Cam Atkinson. The Blue Jackets took the lead on a Brandon Dubinsky goal, his third of the year, guided in by Savard and Nick Foligno. The final held at 4-3, with the three stars awarded to Jenner, Murray, and Iginla, while Savard gets an honorable mention.

Northwest to Vancouver, with the Canucks welcoming the Detroit Red Wings. Petr Mrazek and Ryan Miller guard the cages. Vancouver opened in the first period on a Christopher Tanev power play goal, powered by Alexandre Burrows and Ben Hutton. The Canucks added on in the second period with a Brandon Sutter power play goal, his third of the season, fueled by Burrows and Bo Horvat. Detroit got on the board in the third period with a Teemu Pulkkinen goal, his fourth of the year, guided in by Tomas Tatar and Brendan Smith. The Red Wings tied it on a Tatar power play goal, his second of the season, coming off of Niklas Kronwall and Henrik Zetterberg. Detroit won 3-2 in overtime with a Gustav Nyquist goal, his fourth of the year, with a lone assist from the goalie Mrazek. The three stars belonged to Tatar, Burrows, and Nyquist.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Eddie Lack and Martin Jones are the young goalies. San Jose started in the first period on a Joel Ward goal, his third of the season, courtesy of Patrick Marleau and Tomas Hertl. The Sharks added on with Ward's second of the game and fourth of the year, with a lone helper by Brent Burns. Carolina got on the board in the second period with a Justin Faulk power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Nathan Gerbe and Victor Rask. San Jose shot back with a Joe Pavelski goal, his third of the year, guided in by Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Joe Thornton. The Sharks extended the lead as Tommy Wingels scored, with the help of Chris Tierney and Paul Martin. Cam Ward replaced Lack in goal. The Hurricanes got one back with a Riley Nash goal, via Noah Hanifin and Kris Versteeg. San Jose finished it at 5-2 on a Ward empty net goal, his fifth of the campaign completing a hat trick, set up by Burns. The three stars went to Ward, Burns, and Jones (32 for 34 in saves).
