2015-16 NHL Season - Day 20

Three games to play today, beginning with...

The New York Islanders hosting the Calgary Flames. Joni Ortio and Jaroslav Halak draw the starts in goal. New York got going with a Mikhail Grabovski power play goal in the second period, his second of the season, powered by Josh Bailey and Johnny Boychuk. The Islanders added on with a Frans Nielsen goal in the third period, his second of the year, guided in by Nikolay Kulemin and Kyle Okposo. New York extended the lead as Cal Clutterbuck scored his third of the season, thanks to Casey Cizikas. The Islanders padded the lead on a Okposo goal, his fourth of the year, fueled by Kulemin. The final stood at 4-0, with Halak (29 save shutout), Okposo, and Kulemin taking the three stars.

Up in Toronto, the Maple Leafs welcome the Arizona Coyotes. Mike Smith and James Reimer are the serviceable goalies. Arizona led off in the first period on a Max Domi power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Michael Stone and Martin Hanzal. Toronto tied it on a Shawn Matthias goal, via Brad Boyes. The Coyotes retook the lead on a Shane Doan power play goal, his second of the year, coming off of Mikkel Boedker and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Arizona added on in the second period on a Klas Dahlbeck goal, his second of the season, assisted by Kyle Chipchura and Steve Downie. The Coyotes extended the lead as Chipchura scored his second of the year, with the help of Ekman-Larsson and Boedker. The Maple Leafs countered with a James van Riemsdyk goal, his fourth of the season, with a lone helper by Nazem Kadri. Toronto pulled closer on a Morgan Rielly goal, his second of the year, helped along by Dion Phaneuf and Kadri. They failed to tie it, losing 4-3, with the three stars being Chipchura, Ekman-Larsson, and Boedker, while Kadri gets an honorable mention.

The Chicago Blackhawks bring in the Anaheim Ducks for the last game today. Frederik Andersen and Corey Crawford guard the cages. Chicago won 1-0 with a Jonathan Toews overtime goal, his second of the campaign, passed from Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook. The three stars went to Toews, Crawford (39 save shutout), and Andersen (23 for 24 in saves).
