Buffalo, as the Sabres host the Boston Bruins. Anton Khudobin and Ryan Miller are in goal. Buffalo struck first with a Drew Stafford goal in the first period, assisted by Tyler Ennis and Marcus Foligno. Boston tied it on a Dougie Hamilton power play goal, powered by David Krejci and Tyler Seguin. The Bruins took the lead in the second period on a Rich Peverley goal, his second of the season, fueled by Hamilton and Dennis Seidenberg. The Sabres tied it in the third period with a Tyler Myers goal, his second of the year, coming off of Jochen Hecht and Nathan Gerbe. Buffalo took the lead on a Christian Ehrhoff goal, his second of the season, set up by Stafford and Ennis. The Sabres added on when Cody Hodgson scored his sixth of the year, thanks to Myers and Ehrhoff. This produced a 4-2 final, with Miller (30 for 32 in saves), Stafford, and Hamilton getting the three stars while Myers, Ehrhoff, and Ennis get the honorable mentions.
Northwest to Winnipeg, as the Jets host the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marc-Andre Fleury and Ondrej Pavelec receive the starting nods. Pittsburgh was first to score in the first period as Craig Adams scored, with the help of Joe Vitale and Kris Letang. The Penguins padded the lead in the third period as James Neal scored his eleventh of the season, a power play goal powered by Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby. Winnipeg got one back as Andrew Ladd potted his seventh of the year, with assists provided by Bryan Little and Blake Wheeler. Pittsburgh won 3-1 when Adams put his second of the game into the empty net, thanks to Chris Kunitz and Brooks Orpik. Fleury (25 for 26 in saves), Pavelec (25 for 27 in saves), and Adams got the three stars.
Back in the states, the New Jersey Devils welcome the Philadelphia Flyers. Ilya Bryzgalov and Martin Brodeur are in the blue paint. New Jersey started in the first period with a Travis Zajac goal, his third of the season, coming off of Ilya Kovalchuk and Mark Fayne. Philadelphia tied it with a Wayne Simmonds power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Brayden Schenn and Claude Giroux. The Flyers took the lead as Mike Knuble scored his second of the season, via Ruslan Fedotenko and Kurtis Foster. Philadelphia added on with a Matt Read goal, his sixth of the year, passed from Giroux. The Devils got one back in the second period with an Alexei Ponikarovsky goal, his third of the season, fueled by Kovalchuk and the goalie Brodeur. New Jersey tied it as Patrik Elias notched his fourth of the year, courtesy of Kovalchuk, who got a sock trick, and Zajac. The Devils took the lead in the third period on a David Clarkson goal, his tenth of the season, set up by Adam Larsson and Elias. New Jersey iced it at 5-3 with a Steve Bernier empty net goal, his fourth of the year, guided in by Elias and Stephen Gionta. The three stars were given to Kovalchuk, Clarkson, and Elias, while Zajac and Giroux get the honorable mentions.
West to Detroit, where the Red Wings host the Anaheim Ducks. Viktor Fasth and Jimmy Howard are the masked men. Detroit got going in the second period as Joakim Andersson scored, with the help of Jakub Kindl and Tomas Tatar. Anaheim quickly tied it on the second of the season by Matt Beleskey, via Ryan Getlzaf. The Red Wings took the lead back as Tatar scored his second of the year, a power play goal powered by Damien Brunner and Andersson. The Ducks retied it as Corey Perry recorded his second of the season, with a lone assist by Beleskey. Anaheim took the lead in the third period as Andrew Cogliano notched his third of the year, thanks to Saku Koivu. The Ducks extended the lead with a Bobby Ryan goal, his fifth of the season, made possible by Teemu Selanne. Anaheim iced it at 5-2 with the second of the game and fourth of the year by Cogliano, an empty net goal set up by Getzlaf and Perry. The three stars belonged to Ryan, Selanne, and Tatar, while Cogliano, Perry, Beleskey, Andersson, and Getzlaf get the honorable mentions.
Down in Chicago, the Blackhawks host the San Jose Sharks. Antti Niemi and Ray Emery will be between the pipes. Chicago began in the first period on a Dave Bolland goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith. The Blackhawks added on in the second period as Marcus Kruger scored his third of the year, with the help of Jamal Mayers Niklas Hjalmarsson. San Jose got on the board with a Tim Kennedy goal, fueled by Logan Couture and Brad Stuart. Chicago padded the lead with an Andrew Shaw power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Keith and Brent Seabrook. The Blackhawks struck again in the third period with a Hjalmarsson goal, coming off of Kruger and Mayers. This made it 4-1, the final, with the three stars going to Kruger, Jonathan Toews, and Emery (27 for 28 in saves), while Mayers, Keith, and Hjalmarsson all have better cases for the second star slot.
Back in Canada, the Calgary Flames bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Leland Irving are the young goalies. St. Louis led off in the first period as Jaden Schwartz scored, with a lone helper from Alex Steen. The Blues chased Irving on a Patrik Berglund's seventh of the season, set up by Schwartz. Joey MacDonald replaced Irving in goal. St. Louis extended the lead on a Steen goal, his fourth of the year, via Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk. The Blues added on with a David Perron power play goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by David Backes and T.J. Oshie. Calgary got on the board with a power play goal by Dennis Wideman in the second period, his third of the year, powered by Michael Cammalleri. The Flames pulled back in the third period as Curtis Glencross stashed away his sixth of the season, with the help of Jarome Iginla and Anton Babchuk. St. Louis shot back as Perron scored his second of the night and fifth of the year, a power play goal coming off of Oshie and Steen. This produced a 5-2 final score, with the three stars being Steen, Perron, and Jay Bouwmeester, while Schwartz or Oshie is more deserving of the third spot.
Out west, the Vancouver Canucks host the Dallas Stars. Kari Lehtonen and Cory Schneider man the creases. Richard Bachman relieved an injured Lehtonen midway through the first period. Dallas opened in the first period as Reilly Smith scored, thanks to Loui Eriksson and Derek Roy. Vancouver tied it in the second period on a Daniel Sedin goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Henrik Sedin. The Canucks took the lead with a Chris Higgins goal, his third of the year, passed from Dale Weise and Ryan Kesler. Vancouver padded the lead as Alexandre Burrows scored his fourth of the season, courtesy of Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin. The Stars pulled back with a Cody Eakin goal, his second of the year, fueled by Trevor Daley and Michael Ryder. Dallas tied it in the third period on an Antoine Roussel goal, his second of the season, coming off of Ryder and Eakin. The Stars took the lead as Brenden Dillon scored his third of the year, guided in by Jamie Benn and Stephane Robidas. This was good for a 4-3 win, with the three stars being Henrik Sedin, Dillon, and Jaromir Jagr, while Eakin, Ryder, and Daniel Sedin are all more deserving of the third star.
Finally, down in Los Angeles, the Kings welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky and Jonathan Bernier are given the green light to start. Los Angeles got going in the second period as Kyle Clifford scored his second of the season, an unassisted goal. The Kings added on in the third period with a Mike Richards power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Anze Kopitar and the goalie Bernier. Columbus got on the board in the third period as Nick Foligno scored his second of the campaign, passed from Jack Johnson and Brandon Dubinsky. Clifford, Rob Scuderi, and Bernier (12 for 13 in saves and an assist) got the three stars, while Richards deserves the second star.
