Leicester City started with an eleventh minute Jamie Vardy goal, coming off of Marc Albrighton. Sunderland had a yellow card for a Jack Rodwell foul in the seventeenth minute. Leicester City added on with a Riyad Mahrez goal in the eighteenth minute, set up by Albrighton. In the twenty-fifth minute, Leicester City extended the lead through a Mahrez penalty kick goal. In the forty-second minute, Billy Jones of Sunderland had a yellow card for a foul. In the forty-ninth minute, Vardy of Leicester City had a yellow card for a foul. Sunderland got on the board with a sixtieth minute Jermain Defoe goal, passed from Adam Johnson. Leicester City responded on an Albrighton goal in the sixty-sixth minute. Sunderland pulled back as Steven Fletcher scored in the seventy-first minute, thanks to Jeremain Lens. Sunderland received yellow cards for fouls by Yonues Kaboul in the seventy-third minute and Sebastian Coates in the eighty-fifth minute. Leicester City took a yellow card for a Jeffrey Schlupp foul in stoppage time.

At the eighteen minute mark, Jonjo Shelvey of Swansea City took a yellow card for a foul. Chelsea started on a twenty-third minute Oscar goal.
