Just two games on a light day today, beginning with...
The Washington Capitals welcoming the Ottawa Senators in a battle of each nation's capital city teams. Andrew Hammond and Braden Holtby draw the starts in goal. Washington opened in the first period on a Michael Latta goal, his second of the season, coming off of Dmitry Orlov and Taylor Chorney. The Capitals added on with a John Carlson second period goal, his sixth of the year, via Justin Williams and Latta. Ottawa got on the board with a third period power play goal by Bobby Ryan, his tenth of the campaign, powered by Kyle Turris and Erik Karlsson. This final stood from here at 2-1, with the three stars going to Latta, Holtby (26 for 27 in saves), and Carlson.
Over in Boston, the Bruins bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins for the day's other game. Jeff Zatkoff is mismatched with Tuukka Rask in goal. Boston started in the first period with a Max Talbot goal, assisted by Adam McQuaid and Jimmy Hayes. The Bruins added on with a Hayes goal, his fifth of the season, fueled by Ryan Spooner and Colin Miller. Boston iced it at 3-0 on a Spooner empty net power play goal, his eighth of the year, set up by Patrice Bergeron and Loui Eriksson. The three stars were Rask (34 save shutout), Hayes, and Spooner.
