Major League Soccer 2016 - Week 33

All games this weekend and next weekend are on Sunday with Conference-based universal kickoffs as the last few playoff spots get decided. We begin with the Eastern Conference today, with the first game being...

The Chicago Fire hosting the New England Revolution. Brad Knighton and Sean Johnson are in goal. Chicago began in the ninth minute with a Michael de Leeuw goal, assisted by Brandon Vincent and David Accam. New England had a yellow card given to Kei Kamara for a twenty-ninth minute foul. The Revolution tied it on a forty-third minute Diego Fagundez goal. The Fire's Khaly Thiam took a yellow card in the forty-fourth minute. In the fifty-first minute, London Woodberry of New England took a yellow card for a foul. Chicago went down to ten men in the fifty-fourth minute when Luis Solignac took a red card for violent conduct. Things went level again as Revolution keeper Knighton took a straight red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity in the seventy-third minute. Chicago took the lead on an Accam goal in the eightieth minute, set up by Jonathan Campbell. The Fire's Matt Polster took a yellow card in stoppage time for time wasting. The game ended 2-1, with the man of the match being Accam for the winning goal.

East to DC, where United welcomes New York City FC. Josh Saunders and Bill Hamid are the goalies. DC opened in the twenty-seventh minute on a Patrick Mullins goal, assisted by Lloyd Sam and Luciano Acosta. United added on in the thirty-first minute with a Bobby Boswell goal, guided in by Sam. DC extended the lead in the forty-fifth minute as Rob Vincent scored, thanks to Mullins. New York City had a yellow card in the fifty-third minute given to Andrea Pirlo for a foul. New York City got on the board in the seventy-second minute on a David Villa penalty kick goal. United saw a seventy-fifth minute yellow card for a handball by Nick DeLeon. The game ended 3-1, with Mullins the man of the match.

Up in Canada, the Montreal Impact bring in Toronto FC. Clint Irwin and Evan Bush are the experienced keepers. Montreal led off in the nineteenth minute on an Ignacio Piatti goal, via Marco Donadel. Toronto had yellow cards for fouls by Michael Bradley in the twenty-fifth minute and Steven Beitashour in first half stoppage time. Toronto tied it in the fifty-first minute on a Jozy Altidore goal, assisted by Justin Morrow. The Impact retook the lead on an Ignacio Piatti penalty kick goal in the fifty-fifth minute. Montreal's Donadel had a yellow card for a fifty-ninth minute yellow card. Toronto saw yellow cards given to Sebastian Giovinco in the sixty-eighth minute and Drew Moor in the seventy-eighth minute, both for fouls. Toronto retied it in the eighty-sixth minute on a Tosaint Ricketts goal, passed from Altidore and Giovinco. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with Altidore earning man of the match honors.

Back stateside, the New York Red Bulls host the Columbus Crew SC. Brad Stuver is mismatched with Luis Robles in goal. New York had a yellow card for a foul by Aurelien Collin in the third minute. Columbus saw yellow cards given to Tony Tchani in the fourteenth minute, Wil Trapp in the thirty-seventh minute, and Cristian Martinez in the fortieth minute, all for fouls. New York got going in the fifty-third minute on a Mike Grella goal, set up by Sacha Kljestan and Chris Duvall. The Red Bulls added on in the fifty-eighth minute on a Bradley Wright-Phillips goal, coming off of Alex Muyl. New York extended the lead as Wright-Phillips scored again, thanks to Collin and Kljestan in the seventieth minute. Columbus got on the board in the seventy-third on an Adam Jahn goal, fueled by Justin Meram and Ethan Finlay. The Crew got closer with a Harrison Afful goal in the eighty-third minute, made possible by Michael Parkhurst. In stoppage time, Meram took a yellow card for a foul. The game ended 3-2, with Wright-Phillips the man of the match for his brace.

The East's last game has the Philadelphia Union welcoming Orlando City SC. Joe Bendik and Andre Blake are the gloved men. Philadelphia saw yellow cards assessed to Richie Marquez in the thirty-eighth minute and Fabian Herbers in the forty-fourth minute for fouls. Jose Aja of Orlando City took a yellow card for a fifty-seventh minute foul. Orlando City dented the scoreboard in the fifty-ninth minute with a Carlos Rivas goal. In the sixty-seventh minute, the Union's Tranquillo Barnetta had a yellow card for his foul. Orlando City iced it at 2-0 with a Julio Baptista goal in stoppage time. The game ended 2-0, with Bendik the man of the match for his five-save clean sheet.

To the Western Conference, with FC Dallas bringing in the Seattle Sounders FC. Stefan Frei and Chris Seitz are in the six-yard boxes. Dallas had a fortieth minute yellow card for Carlos Gruezo's foul. Seattle started in the forty-first minute on a Nico Lodeiro goal. Dallas' Maximiliano Urruti received a yellow card for his dissent in first half stoppage time. The Sounders' Tyrone Mears took a yellow card for time wasting in the fifty-seventh minute. Dallas tied it in the seventy-ninth minute on an Urruti goal. In the eighty-ninth minute, Dallas took the lead on a Carlos Ruiz goal, passed from Mauro Diaz. Michael Barrios received a yellow card in second half stoppage time for his foul. The game ended 2-1, with the man of the match being Urruti.

Staying in Texas, the Houston Dynamo host the Los Angeles Galaxy. Brian Rowe and Joe Willis protect the nets. Los Angeles was first to score in the seventy-second minute on an Alan Gordon goal. This stood for a 1-0 win, with the man of the match being Gordon.

Northwest to Portland, where the Timbers welcome the Colorado Rapids. Tim Howard and Jake Gleeson guard the woodwork. Liam Ridgewell had a twenty-first minute yellow card for a foul. Caleb Calvert of Colorado had a yellow card for his foul in the twenty-sixth minute, as did teammates Mekeil Williams in the thirty-second minute and Bobby Burling in the thirty-third minute. The Timbers struck first in the thirty-fifth minute on a Fanendo Adi penalty kick goal. Diego Chara of Portland had a fiftieth minute yellow card for a foul. The Rapids saw more disciplinary action against them as Micheal Azira in the seventy-ninth minute, Kevin Doyle in the eighty-ninth minute, and Jared Watts in stoppage time all took yellow cards for fouls. The Timbers' Vytautas Andriuskevicius had a yellow card for his stoppage time foul. The game ended at 1-0, with Adi the man of the match.

Backtracking to Salt Lake, where Real brings in Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and Nick Rimando play goal. Salt Lake had a yellow card for a foul by Luke Mulholland in the thirty-second minute. Real also saw yellow cards given to Justen Glad in the fifty-eighth minute and Kyle Beckerman in the eighty-fourth minute, both for fouls. The game ended 0-0, with the man of the match being Rimando for his five-save clean sheet.

Finally, the San Jose Earthquakes host the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Paolo Tornaghi and David Bingham are set to start in goal. San Jose's Anibal Godoy had a yellow card for dissent in the forty-fourth minute. Cristian Techera of Vancouver took a yellow card for a sixty-eighth minute foul. The game ended 0-0, with the man of the match being Bingham for a seven-save clean sheet.
