NWSL 2017: Week 12

For this weekend, all teams are in action just after playing midweeks games for most sides. We begin with four Saturday games, the first in...

North Carolina, as the Courage host Sky Blue FC. Kailen Sheridan and Katelyn Rowland are the goalies. Sky Blue saw a yellow card in the sixty-seventh minute for an Erica Skroski foul. North Carolina's Sam Witteman took a yellow card for her eightieth minute foul. Sky Blue got going in the eighty-fourth minute on a Sam Kerr goal, made possible by Maya Hayes. This stood for a 1-0 win with the woman of the match being Sheridan for her five-save clean sheet, including a save on a penalty kick. Also good for Sky Blue were Christie Pearce, Daphne Corboz, and Kerr, while the Courage's best came from Abby Erceg, Samantha Mewis, and Ashley Hatch.

Up in Boston, the Breakers welcome the Washington Spirit. Stephanie Labbe and Sammy Jo Prudhomme draw the starts in goal. Boston saw a sixty-second minute yellow card for a foul by Allysha Chapman. Washington's Estelle Johnson received a yellow card for her sixty-fourth minute foul. The Breakers dented the scoreboard in the seventy-second minute with a Midge Purce goal, coming off of Rosie White. This stood for a 1-0 win, with Purce the woman of the match. Brooke Elby, Megan Oyster, and Angela Salem also did well for the Breakers, while the Spirit saw good games from Labbe, Whitney Church, Tori Huster, and Francisca Ordega.

Back south, the Orlando Pride host the Chicago Red Stars after an hour-long weather delay. Alyssa Naeher and Aubrey Bledsoe play in goal. Orlando's Ali Krieger took a yellow card for a foul in the fifty-second minute. Chicago struck first in the sixty-eighth minute on a Christen Press penalty kick goal. This stood for a 1-0 win, with Press the woman of the match. Also excelling for the Red Stars were Naeher, Taylor Comeau, and Alyssa Mautz. For the Pride, Steph Catley, Kristen Edmonds, Marta, and Rachel Hill had good performances.

Saturday ends in Seattle, as the Reign FC bring in the Portland Thorns FC. Adrianna Franch and Haley Kopmeyer protect the nets. Seattle began in first half stoppage time with a Megan Rapinoe goal. Portland saw yellow cards for fouls by Christine Sinclair and Dagny Brynjarsdottir in the sixty-fourth and seventy-second minutes, respectively. Kristen McNabb of the Reign took a yellow card for a foul in the seventy-seventh minute. Seattle added on in the eighty-first minute with a Rapinoe goal, via Christine Nairn. The Thorns' Hayley Raso took a yellow card in second half stoppage time. The Reign won 2-0, with Rapinoe the woman of the match. Kopmeyer, McNabb, and Nairn also played well for the hosts, while the visitors saw good games from Meghan Klingenberg, Lindsey Horan, and Sinclair.

Finally, on Sunday, FC Kansas City hosts the Houston Dash. Jane Campbell and Nicole Barnhart are the keepers. Kansas City saw a yellow card for a thirty-fifth minute foul by Lo'eau Labonta. Kansas City led off in first half stoppage time on a Shea Groom goal, made possible by Christina Gibbons. In the fifty-second minute, Gibbons took a yellow card for her foul for Kansas City, as did the Dash's Carli Lloyd seconds later. Houston tied it in the fifty-fifth minute with a Rachel Daly goal. Kansas City went down to ten women when Labonta received a second yellow card for a foul in the sixty-second minute. The Dash took the lead with a Nichelle Prince goal in the sixty-fourth minute, via Amber Brooks. This made it 2-1, the final, with the woman of the match being Daly. Also good for the Dash were Janine van Wyk, Prince, and Lloyd, while Kansas City's best were Brittany Taylor, Desiree Scott, and Groom.
