NWSL 2017: Week 17

We're back for a full weekend of games, with three on Saturday and two more on Sunday (and publication expected to be finished on Monday). We begin with...

The Washington Spirit hosting the Boston Breakers. Abby Smith faces a lesser foe in Didi Haracic in goal. Washington led off in the sixth minute with an Estelle Johnson goal, following her own rebound to score. Boston tied it on an Adriana Leon goal in the forty-fourth minute. The Spirit took the lead back in the sixty-fourth minute with a Cheyna Williams goal, heading it in after a previous cross was punched lightly away by Smith. The Breakers tied it again in the seventy-ninth minute on a Leon goal, her second of the game, assisted by Ifeoma Onumonu. Boston's Angela Salem took a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time on Washington's Tori Huster. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with Leon named woman of the match. Other good Breakers were Smith (9 for 11 in saves), Salem, and Rosie White, while the Spirit's best were Johnson, Mallory Pugh, and Estefania Banini.

Down in Florida, the Orlando Pride welcome Sky Blue FC. Kailen Sheridan opposed a returning Ashlyn Harris in goal. Orlando began in the fourth minute with an Alex Morgan goal, via Marta. The Pride added on in the forty-third minute with a Dani Weatherholt goal, coming off of Camila. Orlando extended the lead in the forty-seventh minute as Morgan scored again, thanks to Jasmyne Spencer. The Pride padded the lead in the fifty-third minute on a Marta goal. Orlando made it 5-0 with a Marta goal in the fifty-eighth minute, courtesy of Morgan. This stood for a final, with Morgan the woman of the match. Marta, Camila, Spencer, Weatherholt, Monica, and Harris (three-save clean sheet) all excelled for the Pride, while Mandy Freeman, Taylor Lytle, and McKenzie Meehan led the way for Sky Blue.

To Chicago, where the Red Stars host the Portland Thorns FC. Adrianna Franch and Alyssa Naeher protect the nets. Portland opened in the third minute with a Hayley Raso goal, via Lindsey Horan. Portland reclaimed the lead as Emily Sonnett scored on a free kick by Meghan Klingenberg in the fifty-fifth minute. This stood for a 3-2 win, with Sonnett the woman of the match. Other starring Thorns were Amandine Henry, Horan, Raso, and Sinclair, while the Red Stars' best were Gilliland, Ertz, Alyssa Mautz, Press, and Huerta.
