NHL 2022-23 - Day 6

A light four-game Friday is up, beginning with...

The Detroit Red Wings hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Jake Allen and Ville Husso are the goalies. Detroit dented the scoreboard in the third period with an Elmer Soderblom goal, assisted by Michael Rasmussen and Oskar Sundqvist. The Red Wings added on with a Rasmussen empty net goal, set up by Andrew Copp and Dylan Larkin. Detroit finished it at 3-0 with an Olli Maatta empty net goal, courtesy of Rasmussen and Sundqvist. The three stars were Husso (29 save shutout), Rasmussen, and Sundqvist.

Along to Columbus, as the Blue Jackets welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Daniil Tarasov start in goal. Columbus led off in the first period with a Johnny Gaudreau goal, assisted by Justin Danforth and Boone Jenner. Tampa Bay tied it on a Corey Perry power play goal, powered by Vladislav Namestnikov and Mikhail Sergachev. The Lightning took the lead with a Steven Stamkos goal, his second of the season, via Alex Killorn and Haydn Fleury. The Blue Jackets tied it again on a Gustav Nyquist goal, courtesy of Kent Johnson and Erik Gudbranson. Tampa Bay retook the lead with a Ross Colton goal, fueled by Perry and Victor Hedman. The Lightning added on with a Cal Foote goal in the second period, made possible by Colton and Namestnikov. Tampa Bay extended the lead in the third period as Stamkos scored his second of the game and third of the year, with helpers from Sergachev and Killorn. This stood for a 5-2 win, with the three stars being Stamkos, Perry, and Colton, while Sergachev, Killorn, and Namestnikov get the honorable mentions. 

Northwest to Winnipeg, where the Jets bring in the New York Rangers. Jaroslav Halak and Connor Hellebuyck man the nets. Winnipeg began in the first period with a Mark Scheifele goal, assisted by Nikolaj Ehlers and Josh Morrissey. New York tied it in the third period with a Dryden Hunt goal, fueled by Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin. The Jets took the lead with a Sam Gagner goal, coming off of Saku Maenalanen and David Gustafsson. Winnipeg added on with a Scheifele power play goal, his second of the game, powered by Pierre-Luc Dubois and Ehlers. The Jets iced it at 4-1 with a Kyle Connor empty net goal, set up by Blake Wheeler. The three stars were Scheifele, Hellebuyck (40 for 41 in saves), and Ehlers. 

Finally, the San Jose Sharks host the Carolina Hurricanes. Antti Raanta and James Reimer are in the creases. San Jose kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Evgeny Svechnikov goal, assisted by Jaycob Megna and Erik Karlsson. Carolina tied it in the second period with a Martin Necas goal, his second of the season, fueled by Andrei Svechnikov. The Hurricanes took the lead in the third period with a Sebastian Aho goal, guided in by Brett Pesce and Teuvo Teravainen. This stood for a 2-1 win, with the three stars going to Aho, Raanta (18 for 19 in saves), and Necas.
