NHL 2022-23 - Day 151

There's four games on this Friday, beginning with...

The Toronto Maple Leafs hosting the Carolina Hurricanes. Pyotr Kochetkov and Ilya Samsonov man the nets. Toronto led off in the first period with a Zach Aston-Reese goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Erik Gustafsson and Calle Jarnkrok. The Maple Leafs added on with a Mitch Marner goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, courtesy of Michael Bunting and John Tavares. Carolina got on the board with a Brady Skjei goal, his fourteenth of the season, via Jordan Martinook and Brett Pesce. Toronto replied with an Auston Matthews power play goal, his thirty-second of the year, powered by Tavares and Morgan Rielly. The Hurricanes got one back in the second period with a Martin Necas goal, his twenty-sixth of the season, coming off of Teuvo Teravainen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. The Maple Leafs answered with an Aston-Reese goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, with a lone helper by Sam Lafferty. Toronto finished it at 5-2 with a Rielly goal in the third period, his fourth of the campaign, fueled by Jarnkrok and T.J. Brodie. The three stars were Aston-Reese, Rielly, and Tavares, while Jarnkrok gets an honorable mention. 

Stateside, the Philadelphia Flyers welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Craig Anderson and Carter Hart are the goalies. Philadelphia began in the first period with an Owen Tippett power play goal, his nineteenth of the season, powered by Cam York and Tony DeAngelo. The Flyers added on with a Joel Farabee goal, his tenth of the year, guided in by Tyson Foerster and Kevin Hayes in the second period. Philadelphia extended the lead as Tippett scored his second of the game and twentieth of the season, thanks to Hayes and Ivan Provorov. The Flyers padded the lead on a James van Riemsdyk goal, his tenth of the year, coming off of Scott Laughton. Buffalo got on the board in the third period with a Victor Olofsson power play goal, his twenty-fifth of the season, with assists provided by Owen Power and Casey Mittelstadt. Philadelphia answered on a Tippett goal, completing his hat trick with his twenty-first of the year, fueled by DeAngelo and Nick Seeler. The Sabres responded with another Olofsson power play goal, his second of the game and twenty-sixth of the campaign, with helpers from Zemgus Girgensons and Mittelstadt. This only made it 5-2, the final, with the three stars going to Tippett, Olofsson, and Hayes, while DeAngelo and Mittelstadt get the honorable mentions. 

Along to DC, as the Washington Capitals bring in the St. Louis Blues. Joel Hofer and Darcy Kuemper are in the blue paint. St. Louis started in the first period with a Sammy Blais goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Brandon Saad and Brayden Schenn. The Blues added on in the second period with a Jordan Kyrou goal, his thirty-first of the year, coming off of Jakub Vrana and Colton Parayko. St. Louis extended the lead as Kasperi Kapanen scored his tenth of the season, thanks to Pavel Buchnevich and Nick Leddy. The Blues padded the lead on another Blais goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year, courtesy of Torey Krug and Saad. Washington got on the board with a Martin Fehervary goal, his sixth of the season, passed from Alexander Alexeyev and Sonny Milano in the third period. The Capitals got closer with a Nicklas Backstrom power play goal, his fifth of the year, powered by Alex Ovechkin and Rasmus Sandin. St. Louis iced it at 5-2 with a Schenn empty net goal, his eighteenth of the campaign, set up by Leddy. The three stars were Blais, Schenn, and Saad, while Leddy gets an honorable mention. 

Finally, the Anaheim Ducks host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Michael Hutchinson and Lukas Dostal are the backups in goal. Anaheim opened in the first period with a Trevor Zegras goal, his twenty-second of the season, via Ryan Strome and Brock McGinn. Columbus tied it on a Nick Blankenburg goal, his fourth of the year, courtesy of Liam Foudy. The Ducks retook the lead with a Scott Harrington goal, his second of the season, assisted by Troy Terry and Simon Benoit. The Blue Jackets retied it on a Boone Jenner goal, his twenty-third of the year, passed from Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine. Anaheim regained the lead in the second period with a Max Comtois goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Derek Grant and Benoit. Columbus tied it again with a Cole Sillinger power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Kent Johnson and Emil Bemstrom. The Ducks pulled ahead in the third period with a Terry goal, his twentieth of the season, made possible by Colton White and Mason McTavish. The Blue Jackets evened the score on a Laine power play goal, his twenty-second of the year, with assists provided by Adam Boqvist and the goalie Hutchinson. Anaheim pulled ahead on a Max Jones goal, his seventh of the season, going in unassisted. The Ducks added on with a Harrington empty net goal, his second of the game and third of the year, an unassisted goal. Anaheim iced it at 7-4 with a Strome empty net goal, his twelfth of the campaign, going in unassisted. The three stars were Terry, Strome, and Harrington, while Laine and Benoit get the honorable mentions.
