The league is back in full force after a week off, with ten games today. We begin with...
Sibir Novosibirsk hosting Spartak Moscow. Nikita Bespalov and Alexei Krasikov are the goalies. Moscow led off in the first period with a Matthew Gilroy power play goal, powered by Konstantin Glazachev and Lukas Radil. Spartak added on with an Igor Mirnov power play goal in the third period, coming off of Yaroslav Dyblenko. This made it 2-0, the final, with the three stars going to Bespalov (29 save shutout), Gilroy, and Mirnov.
Over in Novokuznetsk, Metallurg welcomes the Sochi Leopards. Konstantin Barulin and Andrei Kareyev draw the starts, and they played well, each of them perfect into the shootout. Here, only Kirill Semyonov of Metallurg scored for a 1-0 win. The three stars went to Kareyev (42 save shutout), Semyonov, and Barulin (26 save "shutout").
Along to Omsk, where Avangard brings in Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. Ilya Proskuryakov faces a lesser foe in Oleg Shilin in goal. Avangard added on with another Burdasov goal in the third period, helped along by Pyotr Khokhryakov on the power play. Nizhny Novgorod got on the board with an Evgeny Grachyov goal, guided in by Dmitry Shulenin. The lone KHL game, as Barys Astana hosts Medvescak Zagreb. Drew MacIntyre and Henrik Karlsson man the nets. Astana got going in the second period with a Roman Savchenko power play goal, powered by Evgeny Rymarev and Roman Starchenko. Barys iced it at 2-0 with a Martin St. Pierre empty net goal in the third period on the power play, going in unassisted. The three stars went to Karlsson (30 save shutout), Savchenko, and St. Pierre.
In the NHL, the Boston Bruins welcome the Buffalo Sabres in the first of three games. Robin Lehner and Tuukka Rask play goal.
