Just three games on tonight, beginning with...

The Tampa Bay Lightning hosting the Washington Capitals. Vitek Vanecek and Andrei Vasilevskiy are the goalies. Washington led off in the first period with a Brett Leason goal, via Nick Jensen. Tampa Bay tied it in the second period with an Alex Killorn goal, his seventh of the season, made possible by Anthony Cirelli. The Lightning took the lead on a Cirelli power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Alex Barre-Boulet and Victor Hedman. Tampa Bay added on in the third period with a Brayden Point goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Taylor Raddysh and Cirelli. The Capitals got one back with a Conor Sheary power play goal, with assists provided by Evgeny Kuznetsov and John Carlson. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars going to Cirelli, Point, and Vasilevskiy (31 for 33 in saves). 

Next up, the Chicago Blackhawks welcome the Ottawa Senators. Matt Murray and Marc-Andre Fleury are between the pipes. Chicago began in the first period with a Brandon Hagel goal, his second of the season, passed from Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. The Blackhawks added on with a Kane power play goal in the second period, his second of the year, powered by Ryan Carpenter and Toews. Chicago extended the lead in the third period as Hagel scored his second of the game and third of the season, helped along by Toews and Seth Jones. The Blackhawks padded the lead as Kane scored his second of the game and third of the year, with the help of Erik Gustafsson and Dominik Kubalik. Ottawa got on the board with an Alex Formenton goal, his second of the season, guided in by Victor Mete and Tyler Ennis. Chicago shot back on a Kane goal to complete his hat trick with his fourth of the year, fueled by Kubalik. The three stars of the 5-1 game were Kane, Hagel, and Toews, while Kubalik received an honorable mention. 

Finally, the Edmonton Oilers bring in the Seattle Kraken. Joey Daccord and Mikko Koskinen are in the blue paint. Edmonton struck first in the first period with a Leon Draisaitl goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Tyson Barrie. Seattle tied it on a Jaden Schwartz goal, courtesy of Yanni Gourde and Mark Giordano. The Oilers retook the lead on a Draisaitl power play goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, powered by Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Edmonton added on in the second period with a Duncan Keith goal, assisted by Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. The Kraken got one back with a Carson Soucy goal, his second of the season, via Nathan Bastian and Jamie Oleksiak. The Oilers responded in the third period with a Kyle Turris goal, made possible by Devin Shore. Edmonton finished it at 5-2 with a Kailer Yamamoto goal, with a lone assist by Draisaitl. The three stars were Draisaitl, Keith, and Koskinen (27 for 29 in saves).

NHL 2021-22 - Day 20

Five games on for Sunday, beginning with...

The Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka is mismatched with Frederik Andersen in goal. Arizona began in the first period with a Christian Fischer goal, his second of the season, fueled by Lawson Crouse and Shayne Gostisbehere. Carolina tied it in the second period on a Martin Necas goal, via Tony DeAngelo and Jordan Martinook. The Hurricanes took the lead in the third period with a Brett Pesce power play goal, powered by Necas and Seth Jarvis. This made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars going to Necas, Andersen (22 for 23 in saves), and Pesce. 

Out west, the Los Angeles Kings welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Dustin Tokarski and Jonathan Quick man the nets. Buffalo got going in the second period with a shorthanded and unassisted Rasmus Asplund goal, his fourth of the season. The Sabres added on with a Victor Olofsson goal, his fifth of the year, coming off of Jacob Bryson. Los Angeles got on the board with a Carl Grundstrom goal, his second of the season, fueled by Anze Kopitar and Tobias Bjornfot. The Kings tied it in the third period on a Kopitar power play goal, his seventh of the year, powered by Kale Clague and Adrian Kempe. Los Angeles pulled ahead with an Alex Iafallo goal, his fourth of the campaign, passed from Bjornfot and Kempe. This held for a 3-2 win, with the three stars given to Kopitar, Bjornfot, and Kempe. 

In Anaheim, the Ducks bring in the Montreal Canadiens. Samuel Montembeault and John Gibson are in the blue paint. Anaheim led off in the first period with an Adam Henrique power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Sonny Milano and Kevin Shattenkirk. Montreal tied it on a Mike Hoffman power play goal, his fourth of the year, with assists provided by Chris Wideman and Jonathan Drouin. The Ducks retook the lead on a Vinni Lettieri power play goal, assisted by Henrique and Shattenkirk. The Canadiens tied it in the second period on a Jake Evans goal, helped along by Artturi Lehkonen and Jeff Petry. Anaheim regained the lead with a Troy Terry goal, his fifth of the season, via Ryan Getzlaf and Cam Fowler. The Ducks iced it at 4-2 with a Sam Carrick empty net goal, set up by Fowler and Isac Lundestrom. The three stars were Henrique, Shattenkirk, and Fowler. 

Back east, the New Jersey Devils host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Joonas Korpisalo and Scott Wedgewood draw the starts in goal. New Jersey opened in the first period with an Andreas Johnsson goal, his fourth of the season, guided in by Jesper Bratt and P.K. Subban. Columbus tied it on an Oliver Bjorkstrand power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Jakub Voracek and Patrik Laine. The Blue Jackets took the lead with a Laine goal, his third of the season, with a lone assist by Voracek. The Devils retied it on a Dawson Mercer goal in the second period, his third of the year, helped along by Subban. New Jersey took the lead with a Dougie Hamilton goal, his second of the season, coming off of Nico Hischier and Pavel Zacha. Columbus tied it in the third period with a Boone Jenner goal, his fifth of the year, going in unassisted. In the shootout, the Blue Jackets won 4-3 with a lone tally by Voracek. The three stars were Laine, Voracek, and Subban. 

Finally, the Seattle Kraken host the New York Rangers. Igor Shesterkin and Philipp Grubauer tend the twines. New York started in the first period with a Chris Kreider goal, his seventh of the season, via Barclay Goodrow. Seattle tied it in the second period with a Jordan Eberle goal, his second of the year, guided in by Jaden Schwartz and Adam Larsson. The Rangers retook the lead in the third period with an Adam Fox goal, his second of the season, assisted by Artemi Panarin. New York iced it at 3-1 with a Goodrow empty net goal, his third of the year, set up by Mika Zibanejad. The three stars were Shesterkin (31 for 32 in saves), Goodrow, and Fox.

The Nashville Predators hosting the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin and Juuse Saros are the masked men. New York opened in the first period with an Anthony Beauvillier power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Josh Bailey and Mathew Barzal. Nashville tied it on a Tanner Jeannot goal in the second period, his third of the year, via Dante Fabbro and Colton Sissons. The Islanders took the lead back with an Oliver Wahlstrom power play goal, his fourth of the season, with assists provided by Brock Nelson and Ryan Pulock. The Predators tied it on another Jeannot goal in the third period, his second of the game and fourth of the year, helped along by Matt Benning and Sissons. Nashville won 3-2 in the shootout on tallies from Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi. The three stars were Jeannot, Sissons, and Saros (34 for 36 in saves). 

In Los Angeles, the Kings welcome the Montreal Canadiens. Jake Allen and Calvin Petersen man the nets. Brodie and John Tavares. Detroit tied it in the second period with a Filip Zadina power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Moritz Seider and Sam Gagner. The Maple Leafs retook the lead with a Michael Bunting power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Jason Spezza and Nick Ritchie. Toronto added on in the third period with an Alexander Kerfoot goal, his second of the season, via Tavares and Muzzin. The Red Wings got one back with a Joe Veleno goal, made possible by Michael Rasmussen. The Maple Leafs replied with a Tavares goal, his third of the year, fueled by Kerfoot and Morgan Rielly. The Sharks won 2-1 in overtime with a Meier power play goal, his fifth of the campaign, powered by Brent Burns. Backtracking to St. Louis, as the Blues host the Chicago Blackhawks. Marc-Andre Fleury and Jordan Binnington guard the cages. St. Louis dented the scoreboard in the third period with a Torey Krug power play goal, powered by Vladimir Tarasenko and David Perron. The final held at 1-0, with the three stars given to Binnington (25 save shutout), Krug, and Fleury (36 for 37 in saves).

West again to Colorado, as the Avalanche welcome the Minnesota Wild. Cam Talbot and Darcy Kuemper tend the twines. Colorado kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Gabriel Landeskog goal, his third of the season, via Andre Burakovsky and Nathan MacKinnon. Minnesota tied it in the second period with a Ryan Hartman power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Marcus Foligno and Matt Dumba. The Avalanche took the lead back with an Erik Johnson goal, assisted by MacKinnon and Landeskog. Colorado added on with a Nazem Kadri power play goal in the third period, his third of the season, with assists provided by Landeskog and J.T. Compher. Calgary extended the lead as Mikael Backlund scored an empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by Tyler Pitlick and Andersson. The Flames iced it at 4-0 with a Johnny Gaudreau goal, his second of the season, coming off of Christopher Tanev. The Panthers added on with an Aleksander Barkov goal, his third of the year, coming off of Anthony Duclair. Detroit got on the board in the second period with a Sam Gagner goal, his second of the season, passed from Troy Stecher and Mitchell Stephens. The Red Wings tied it in the third period with a Pius Suter goal, helped along by Moritz Seider and Robby Fabbri. Florida won 3-2 in overtime with a Barkov goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, assisted by Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar. The Rangers padded the lead on another Kreider power play goal, his second of the game and sixth of the campaign, with assists provided by Fox and Panarin. The final held at 4-0, with the three stars being Shesterkin (31 save shutout), Kreider, and Panarin, while Fox gets an honorable mention.

Ottawa extended the lead as Norris scored his second of the game and fifth of the year, thanks to Drake Batherson and Artem Zub. Dallas got on the board with a Joe Pavelski power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Alexander Radulov and Jason Robertson. The Senators replied in the third period with a Connor Brown goal, via Victor Mete and Tim Stutzle. Further south, the Anaheim Ducks host the Buffalo Sabres. Craig Anderson and Anthony Stolarz draw the starts in goal. Buffalo was first to score in the first period with a Zemgus Girgensons goal, his third of the season, via Kyle Okposo and Mark Pysyk. The Sabres added on in the second period with a Rasmus Asplund power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Rasmus Dahlin and Victor Olofsson. Buffalo extended the lead as Arttu Ruotsalainen scored his second of the season, thanks to Vinnie Hinostroza and Pysyk. Anaheim got on the board with a Troy Terry goal, his third of the year, fueled by Ryan Getzlaf and Cam Fowler. The Ducks got closer with an Adam Henrique goal, his second of the season, assisted by Jakob Silfverberg and Isac Lundestrom. Anaheim tied it in the third period with a Simon Benoit goal, courtesy of Kevin Shattenkirk. The Sabres won 4-3 in overtime with an Asplund goal, his second of the game and third of the year, with helpers from Olofsson and Dahlin. The three stars were Asplund, Dahlin, and Olofsson.

Next up, the Los Angeles Kings welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Eric Comrie and Jonathan Quick are in the blue paint. Winnipeg drew first blood in the first period with a Pierre-Luc Dubois goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Kyle Connor and Josh Morrissey. Los Angeles tied it on a Rasmus Kupari goal, via Arthur Kaliyev. The Kings took the lead in the second period with an Adrian Kempe goal, guided in by Phillip Danault and Alex Iafallo. The Jets tied it in the third period with an Andrew Copp power play goal, his fifth of the year, powered by Connor and Neal Pionk. Winnipeg took the lead with another Dubois goal, his second of the game and sixth of the season, courtesy of Connor and Pionk. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars awarded to Dubois, Connor, and Pionk.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Montreal Canadiens. Jake Allen and Adin Hill are between the pipes. Montreal cracked the scoresheet in the first period on a Mike Hoffman goal, his third of the season, made possible by Brett Kulak and Nick Suzuki. The Canadiens added on in the second period with an Alexander Romanov goal, via Jonathan Drouin. Montreal extended the lead as Brendan Gallagher scored a power play goal, powered by Josh Anderson and Suzuki. The Canadiens iced it at 4-0 with an Anderson empty net goal, set up by Tyler Toffoli and David Savard. The three stars belonged to Allen (45 save shutout), Anderson, and Hoffman, while Suzuki gets an honorable mention.

NHL 2021-22 - Day 16

There's five games on today, beginning with...

The Washington Capitals hosting the Detroit Red Wings. Thomas Greiss and Vitek Vanecek are the goalies. Washington began in the first period with an Alex Ovechkin power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Lars Eller and Anthony Mantha. The Capitals added on in the second period with an Evgeny Kuznetsov power play goal, his fifth of the year, with helpers from Conor Sheary and T.J. Oshie. Detroit got on the board with an Adam Erne goal, his second of the season, made possible by Filip Hronek and Vladislav Namestnikov. The Red Wings tied it in the third period with a Robby Fabbri goal, his second of the year, fueled by Erne and Pius Suter. Detroit won 3-2 in overtime with a Dylan Larkin goal, his third of the campaign, assisted by Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider. The three stars were Erne, Larkin, and Fabbri.

In Florida, the Panthers welcome the Boston Bruins. Linus Ullmark and Sergei Bobrovsky start in goal. Boston led off in the first period with a Charlie Coyle goal, his second of the season, guided in by Jack Studnicka. Florida tied it with a Mason Marchement goal, via Sam Reinhart and Gustav Forsling. The Panthers took the lead in the second period with an Eetu Luostarinen goal, assisted by Reinhart and Forsling. Florida added on in the third period with an Anthony Duclair goal, his fifth of the year, coming off of Aaron Ekblad and Aleksander Barkov. The Panthers iced it at 4-1 with an Owen Tippett empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Jonathan Huberdeau and Forsling. The three stars were Bobrovsky (28 for 29 in saves), Forsling, and Reinhart.

Along to Chicago, as the Blackhawks host the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jack Campbell and Kevin Lankinen man the nets. Chicago opened in the first period on a Kirby Dach power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Philipp Kurashev and Seth Jones. The Blackhawks added on with an Alex DeBrincat goal, his third of the year, fueled by Jones. Toronto got on the board in the second period with a John Tavares goal, his second of the season, assisted by Mitchell Marner and Morgan Rielly. The Maple Leafs tied it in the third period with a David Kampf goal, helped along by Rasmus Sandin and Ondrej Kase. Toronto won 3-2 in overtime with a William Nylander goal, his third of the year, with a lone assist by Auston Matthews. The three stars went to Nylander, Jones, and Kampf.

Down in Dallas, the Stars bring in the Vegas Golden Knights. Laurent Brossoit and Anton Khudobin are in the blue paint. Dallas started in the first period with a Luke Glendening goal, his of the season, via Miro Heiskanen and Joel Kiviranta. Vegas tied it on a Shea Theodore goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. The Stars regained the lead in the second period with an Alexander Radulov goal, coming off of Jani Hakanpaa and Jamie Benn. The Golden Knights tied it on a Jonathan Marchessault goal, his second of the season, guided in by Theodore and Chandler Stephenson. Vegas won 3-2 in overtime with an Evgenii Dadonov goal, his second of the year, passed from Nicolas Roy. The three stars were Theodore, Dadonov, and Marchessault.

Finally, the Edmonton Oilers host the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Mikko Koskinen protect the nets. Philadelphia got on the board in the first period with a Claude Giroux goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Travis Konecny and Sean Couturier. The Flyers added on with a Nate Thompson goal, guided in by Nicolas Aube-Kubel. Edmonton got on the board with a Tyson Barrie goal, his second of the year, via Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers tied it on a Connor McDavid power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Barrie and Nugent-Hopkins. Philadelphia retook the lead with a Cam Atkinson goal, his fifth of the year, going in unassisted. Edmonton tied it on a Zach Hyman goal in the second period, his sixth of the season, assisted by Jesse Puljujarvi and McDavid. The Flyers reclaimed the lead in the third period with an Atkinson goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year, fueled by Derick Brassard and Justin Braun. Philadelphia iced it at 5-3 with a Couturier empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Travis Sanheim. The three stars were Atkinson, Couturier, and McDavid, while Barrie and Nugent-Hopkins get the honorable mentions.

NHL 2021-22 - Day 15

We've got seven games again this Tuesday, beginning with...

The New Jersey Devils hosting the Calgary Flames. Daniel Vladar and Nico Daws are the backups in goal. Calgary opened in the first period with a Milan Lucic goal, assisted by Erik Gudbranson and Oliver Kylington. The Flames added on with an Andrew Mangiapane goal, his sixth of the season, going in unassisted. Calgary extended the lead as Elias Lindholm scored a power play goal, his seventh of the year, powered by Rasmus Andersson and Johnny Gaudreau. Scott Wedgewood replaced Daws in goal. The Flames padded the lead as Mangiapane scored his second of the game and seventh of the season, thanks to Dillon Dube. New Jersey got on the board in the second period with a Pavel Zacha goal, his third of the year, an unassisted goal. Calgary shot back with a Matthew Tkachuk power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Sean Monahan and Lindholm. The Devils answered with a Dawson Mercer goal, his second of the year, passed from Dougie Hamilton and Andreas Johnsson. New Jersey got closer with a Zacha power play goal, his second of the game and fourth of the campaign, with helpers from Mercer and Hamilton. This only made it 5-3, with the three stars going to Mangiapane, Zacha, and Mercer, while Lindholm and Hamilton get the honorable mentions.

Up in Pittsburgh, the Penguins welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Tristan Jarry tend the twines. Tampa Bay got going in the second period with a Brayden Point goal, his third of the season, made possible by Alex Killorn and Mikhail Sergachev. The Lightning added on with an Ondrej Palat goal, his third of the year, via Alex Barre-Boulet and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare. Tampa Bay extended the lead as Ryan McDonagh scored, thanks to Steven Stamkos and Mathieu Joseph. The Lightning padded the lead in the third period on an empty net goal by Sergachev, his second of the season, going in unassisted. Pittsburgh got on the board with a Jason Zucker power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Jake Guentzel. Tampa Bay iced it at 5-1 with a Killorn empty net goal, his fourth of the campaign, set up by Palat and McDonagh. The three stars were McDonagh, Palat, and Sergachev, while Killorn gets an honorable mention.

Out west, the Colorado Avalanche bring in the Vegas Golden Knights. Robin Lehner and Darcy Kuemper guard the cages. Vegas started in the first period with a Chandler Stephenson goal, his third of the season, assisted by Brayden McNabb and Daniil Miromanov. The Golden Knights added on with a Reilly Smith shorthanded and unassisted goal. Colorado got on the board in the second period with a Cale Makar goal, coming off of Nathan MacKinnon and Bowen Byram. Vegas iced it at 3-1 with an empty net goal in the third period from Evgenii Dadonov, set up Keegan Kolesar and Stephenson. The three stars were Lehner (26 for 27 in saves), Stephenson, and Smith.

Back east, the Nashville Predators host the San Jose Sharks. James Reimer and Juuse Saros are the goalies. Nashville led off in the first period with a Matt Duchene power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Roman Josi and Ryan Johansen. The Predators added on with a Filip Forsberg goal, his third of the year, guided in by Josi and Dante Fabbro. San Jose got on the board in the third period with a Timo Meier goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Jonathan Dahlen and Logan Couture. Nashville iced it at 3-1 with a Mikael Granlund empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by Alexandre Carrier. The three stars were handed to Saros (28 for 29 in saves), Josi, and Forsberg.

To California, as the Anaheim Ducks welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and John Gibson protect the nets. Winnipeg dented the scoreboard in the second period with an Evgeny Svechnikov goal, coming off of Pierre-Luc Dubois and Kyle Connor. Anaheim tied it on a Sonny Milano goal, via Trevor Zegras. The Ducks took the lead in the third period with a Josh Manson goal, made possible by Isac Lundestrom and Troy Terry. The Jets tied it again with an Andrew Copp goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Paul Stasnty and Nikolaj Ehlers. Anaheim pulled ahead with a Zegras goal, guided in by Milano. Winnipeg tied it once more with an Ehlers goal, fueled by Copp. The Jets took the lead with a Stastny goal, his third of the year, guided in by Ehlers and Neal Pionk. This stood for a 4-3 win, with the three stars going to Ehlers, Stastny, and Copp, while Zegras and Milano get the honorable mentions.

Up in Seattle, the Kraken bring in the Montreal Canadiens. Jake Allen and Philipp Grubauer are in the blue paint. Seattle began in the first period with a Jordan Eberle goal, via Alexander Wennberg and Jamie Oleksiak. Montreal tied it on a Mike Hoffman goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Nick Suzuki and Brendan Gallagher. The Kraken took the lead with a Brandon Tanev shorthanded goal, his fourth of the year, set up by Oleksiak and Jared McCann. Seattle added on in the second period with a Yanni Gourde goal, made possible by Jaden Schwartz and Jeremy Lauzon. The Kraken extended the lead as Tanev scored his second of the game and fifth of the season, thanks to Gourde and Mark Giordano. Seattle padded the lead in the third period with a Ryan Donato goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. This stood for a 5-1 win, with the three stars going to Tanev, Gourde, and Oleksiak.

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks host the Minnesota Wild. Cam Talbot and Thatcher Demko are the masked men. Minnesota struck first in the first period with a Mats Zuccarello goal, his third of the season, coming off of Joel Eriksson Ek and Dmitry Kulikov. The Wild added on in the second period with a Jonas Brodin goal, going in unassisted. Vancouver got on the board with an Alex Chiasson power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes. Minnesota answered in the third period with a Matt Dumba goal, courtesy of Rem Pitlick and Brandon Duhaime. The Canucks got one back with a Bo Horvat goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by Tyler Myers. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars given to Dumba, Brodin, and Zuccarello.
