NHL 2021-22 - Day 32

Five games on tonight, beginning with...

The Buffalo Sabres hosting the Edmonton Oilers. Stuart Skinner and Dustin Tokarski are the lesser-known goalies. Buffalo got going in the second period with an Anders Bjork goal, his third of the season, going in unassisted. Edmonton tied it on a Leon Draisaitl power play goal, his thirteenth of the year, powered by Jesse Puljujarvi and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers took the lead on a Draisaitl power play goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the season, with assists provided by Connor McDavid and Nugent-Hopkins. The Sabres retied it on a Dylan Cozens goal, his second of the year, guided in by Drake Caggiula. Buffalo pulled ahead with another Cozens goal, his second of the game and third of the campaign, helped along by Vinnie Hinostroza and Mark Pysyk. This was it for the scoring in the 3-2 game, with the three stars being Cozens, Draisaitl, and Nugent-Hopkins.

Down in Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes welcome the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Frederik Andersen guard the cages. Carolina dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Steven Lorentz goal, his second of the season, coming off of Jesper Fast and Jordan Staal. Philadelphia tied it in the third period with a Joel Farabee goal, his fourth of the year, via Scott Laughton and Rasmus Ristolainen. The Flyers took the lead with a Zack MacEwen goal, courtesy of Justin Braun and Patrick Brown. This stood for a 2-1 win, with the three stars going to Hart (39 for 40 in saves), MacEwen, and Farabee.

Up in Toronto, the Maple Leafs host the Calgary Flames. Dan Vladar and Jack Campbell patrol the creases. Calgary drew first blood in the third period with an Oliver Kylington goal, his second of the season, helped along by Johnny Gaudreau. Toronto tied it on an Ondrej Kase goal, his third of the year, fueled by William Nylander and Alexander Kerfoot. The Maple Leafs won 2-1 in overtime with an Auston Matthews goal, his sixth of the campaign, set up by Nylander. The three stars were Nylander, Matthews, and Campbell (30 for 31 in saves).

Back stateside, the Columbus Blue Jackets bring in the Washington Capitals. Ilya Samsonov and Joonas Korpisalo man the nets. Columbus struck first in the first period with a Sean Kuraly goal, via Alexandre Texier and Eric Robinson. Washington tied it on an Alex Ovechkin goal, his twelfth of the season, assisted by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson. The Capitals took the lead in the second period with a Garnet Hathaway goal, passed from Axel Jonsson-Fjallby and Lars Eller. Washington added on with another Hathaway goal, his second of the game, made possible by Eller and Ovechkin. The Blue Jackets got one back with a Kuraly goal, his second of the game, coming off of Jakub Voracek. Columbus tied it on a Gustav Nyquist goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Oliver Bjorkstrand and Boone Jenner. The Capitals retook the lead in the third period with a Conor Sheary goal, his second of the campaign, helped along by Dmitry Orlov and Nick Jensen. This made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars going to Ovechkin, Hathaway, and Kuraly, while Eller gets an honorable mention. 

Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Arizona Coyotes. Scott Wedgewood and Marc-Andre Fleury are in the blue paint. Chicago cracked the scoresheet in the second period with an Alex DeBrincat goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Patrick Kane and Riley Stillman. Arizona tied it on an Andrew Ladd power play goal in the third period, his third of the year, powered by Kyle Capobianco and Lawson Crouse. The Blackhawks retook the lead with a Dylan Strome power play goal, with assists provided by Kane and Seth Jones. This was good for a 2-1 win, with the three stars going to Fleury (22 for 23 in saves), Strome, and DeBrincat.

NHL 2021-22 - Day 31

We'll have 11 games on the schedule today, beginning with...

The Boston Bruins hosting the Edmonton Oilers. Mikko Koskinen and Linus Ullmark man the nets. Boston began in the first period with a David Pastrnak goal, his fourth of the season, guided in by Patrice Bergeron. Edmonton tied it on an Evan Bouchard goal, his second of the year, assisted by Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Bruins took the lead back in the second period with a Brad Marchand goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Pastrnak and Matt Grzelcyk. The Oilers tied it again on a Zach Hyman goal, his eighth of the year, helped along by Connor McDavid. Boston regained the lead on a Brandon Carlo goal, passed from Grzelcyk and Bergeron. Edmonton tied it again on a Draisaitl goal, his eleventh of the season, going in unassisted. The Oilers pulled ahead with another Draisaitl goal, his second of the game and twelfth of the year, via Cody Ceci and Duncan Keith. Edmonton added on with a Ceci goal, coming off of Colton Sceviour and Ryan McLeod. This made it 5-3, the final, with the three stars being Draisaitl, Ceci, and Pastrnak, while Bergeron and Grzelcyk get the honorable mentions.

In Montreal, the Canadiens welcome the Calgary Flames. Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen are the goalies. Calgary led off in the first period with a Mikael Backlund goal, his third of the season, via Trevor Lewis and Oliver Kylington. Montreal tied it on a Ben Chiarot goal, his fourth of the year, fueled by Tyler Toffoli and Nick Suzuki. The Flames took the lead with an Andrew Mangiapane goal, his ninth of the season, assisted by Sean Monahan and Blake Coleman. The Canadiens tied it in the second period on a Brendan Gallagher power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Chris Wideman and Mike Hoffman. Montreal took the lead with a Suzuki power play goal, his fourth of the season, with a lone helper by Hoffman. The Canadiens iced it at 4-2 with a Jake Evans empty net goal, his third of the year, set up by Gallagher and Toffoli. The three stars were Suzuki, Gallagher, and Hoffman, while Toffoli gets an honorable mention.

To Ottawa, as the Senators bring in the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Filip Gustavsson are in the creases. Los Angeles got going in the second period with a power play goal by Anze Kopitar, his eighth of the season, powered by Kale Clague and Adrian Kempe. The Kings added on in the third period with an Andreas Athanasiou goal, his second of the year, passed from Alexander Edler and Phillip Danault. This made it 2-0, the final, with the three stars going to Quick (34 save shutout), Kopitar, and Athanasiou.

Stateside, the New Jersey Devils host the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin and MacKenzie Blackwood are between the pipes. New Jersey opened in the first period with a shorthanded Janne Kuokkanen goal, his third of the season, set up by Nico Hischier and P.K. Subban. The Devils added on in the second period with a Tomas Tatar power play goal, powered by Dougie Hamilton and Pavel Zacha. New Jersey extended the lead in the third period as Dawson Mercer scored his fourth of the year, thanks to Andreas Johnsson. The Devils padded the lead on a Hamilton goal, his third of the season, coming off of Ryan Graves and Jimmy Vesey. This made it 4-0, the final, with the three stars being Blackwood (42 save shutout), Hamilton, and Kuokkanen.

Along to Pittsburgh, as the Penguins welcome the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Tristan Jarry protect the nets. Pittsburgh started in the first period with a Teddy Blueger goal, his third of the season, coming off of Kris Letang and Mike Matheson. Florida tied it on a Frank Vatrano goal, his third of the year, passed from Anton Lundell and Sam Reinhart. The Penguins took the lead in the second period with an Evan Rodrigues goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by Jason Zucker and John Marino. The Panthers tied it again in the third period with an Aleksander Barkov goal, his ninth of the year, via Carter Verhaeghe and MacKenzie Weegar. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Bryan Rust and Jeff Carter lifted the Penguins 3-2 over Jonathan Huberdeau and the Panthers. The three stars were Carter, Rodrigues, and Blueger.

Next up, the Detroit Red Wings bring in the Washington Capitals. Zach Fucale and Thomas Greiss are set to start in goal. Washington struck first in the first period with a Dmitry Orlov goal, his second of the season, coming off of Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin. The Capitals added on with a Lars Eller goal, via Nick Jensen. This stuck for a 2-0 win, with the three stars awarded to Fucale (21 save shutout), Orlov, and Eller.

Down in St. Louis, the Blues host the Nashville Predators. David Rittich is mismatched with Jordan Binnington in goal. St. Louis drew first blood in the first period with a Jordan Kyrou goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Tyler Bozak and Calle Rosen. The Blues added on with another Kyrou power play goal, his second of the game and fifth of the year, powered by Colton Parayko and Robert Thomas. Nashville got on the board in the second period with a Matt Duchene goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Luke Kunin and Mikael Granlund. The Predators tied it on a Kunin goal, his second of the year, coming off of Duchene and Granlund. Nashville took the lead with a Yakov Trenin goal, via Mathieu Olivier and Granlund. St. Louis retied it on a Vladimir Tarasenko goal, his fifth of the season, helped along by Thomas and Justin Faulk. The Predators won 4-3 in overtime with a Duchene goal, his second of the game and eighth of the year, fueled by Granlund and Tanner Jeannot. The three stars were Duchene, Granlund, and Kyrou, while Kunin and Thomas get the honorable mentions.

Up in Winnipeg, the Jets welcome the San Jose Sharks. James Reimer and Connor Hellebuyck draw the starts in goal. San Jose kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Andrew Cogliano goal, his second of the season, via Brent Burns. Winnipeg tied it on a Kyle Connor goal, his tenth of the year, assisted by Pierre-Luc Dubois and Evgeny Svechnikov. The Jets took the lead in the second period with a Nate Schmidt goal, coming off of Josh Morrissey and Blake Wheeler. Winnipeg added on with a Jansen Harkins goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Adam Lowry and Andrew Copp. The Jets iced it at 4-1 with a Dubois empty net goal, his eighth of the year, set up by Copp and Nikolaj Ehlers. The three stars went to Dubois, Hellebuyck (27 for 28 in saves), and Copp.

South again to Colorado, as the Avalanche bring in the Vancouver Canucks. Thatcher Demko and Darcy Kuemper guard the cages. Colorado was first to score in the first period with a Valeri Nichushkin power play goal, powered by Nazem Kadri and Alex Newhook. The Avalanche added on with a Gabriel Landeskog goal, his fifth of the season, made possible by Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen. Colorado extended the lead as Rantanen scored his fourth of the year, going in unassisted. The Avalanche padded the lead as Logan O'Connor scored his second of the season, thanks to Samuel Girard and Devon Toews. Colorado continued with a Darren Helm shorthanded goal, his second of the year, set up by O'Connor. The Avalanche struck again with a Toews goal, with a lone assist by Girard. Jaroslav Halak took over for Demko in goal in the third period. Vancouver got on the board with a Nils Hoglander goal, his second of the season, guided in by J.T. Miller. Colorado responded with a J.T. Compher goal, his sixth of the year, with helpers from Rantanen and Makar on the power play. This made it 7-1, the final, with the three stars being Rantanen, O'Connor, and Toews, while Makar and Girard get the honorable mentions.

In Vegas, the Golden Knights host the Minnesota Wild. Cam Talbot and Laurent Brossoit are the masked men. Vegas led off in the first period with a Paul Cotter goal, assisted by Nicolas Hague and Jonas Rondbjerg. The Golden Knights added on with a Rondbjerg goal, via Brett Howden and Brayden McNabb. Vegas extended the lead in the second period as Jonathan Marchessault scored his seventh of the season, thanks to Reilly Smith. Minnesota got on the board with a Jared Spurgeon goal, his third of the year, fueled by Kirill Kaprizov and Frederick Gaudreau. The Wild got closer with a Ryan Hartman goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Jon Merrill and Dmitry Kulikov. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars given to Rondbjerg, Marchessault, and Cotter.

Finally, the Seattle Kraken host the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Philipp Grubauer tend the twines. Anaheim began in the first period with a Mason McTavish goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. The Ducks added on in the second period with a Troy Terry goal, his tenth of the year, via Jamie Drysdale. Seattle got on the board with a Jaden Schwartz goal, his third of the season, coming off of Jordan Eberle and Vince Dunn. Anaheim replied with a Josh Mahura goal, courtesy of Derek Grant. The Kraken replied with a Jared McCann goal, his fourth of the year, helped along by Ryan Donato and Riley Sheahan. The Ducks shot back on a Kevin Shattenkirk goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Terry and Ryan Getzlaf. Seattle replied with an Eberle goal, his eighth of the year, made possible by Alex Wennberg and Schwartz. Anaheim countered with a Hampus Lindholm goal, coming off of Adam Henrique. The Kraken pulled back with McCann's second goal of the game and fifth of the season, fueled by Donato. The Ducks fired back with a Sam Carrick empty net goal, his fourth of the year, set up by Getzlaf and Josh Manson. Anaheim iced it at 7-4 with a Terry empty net goal, his second of the game and eleventh of the campaign, an unassisted goal. The three stars belonged to Terry, McCann, and Getzlaf, while Eberle, Schwartz and Donato get the honorable mentions.

NHL 2021-22 - Day 30

We've got three games on today, beginning with...

The Philadelphia Flyers hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jack Campbell and Carter Hart man the nets. Toronto got going in the second period with a William Nylander goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Jake Muzzin and Auston Matthews. The Maple Leafs added on in third period with another Nylander goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, powered by Nick Ritchie and Matthews on the power play. Toronto extended the lead as Ondrej Kase scored his second of the season, thanks to Alexander Kerfoot and David Kampf. The final held at 3-0, with the three stars going to Campbell (36 save shutout), Nylander, and Matthews.

Down in Dallas, the Stars welcome the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Braden Holtby guard the cages. Nashville led off in the first period with a Ryan Johansen goal, his fifth of the season, via Tanner Jeannot and Yakov Trenin. The Predators added on in the second period with a Jeannot goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Philip Tomasino and Mattias Ekholm. Nashville extended the lead as Matt Duchene scored his sixth of the season, thanks to Thomas Novak and Matt Benning. Dallas got on the board with a Roope Hintz goal, coming off of Joe Pavelski and Jason Robertson. The Stars got closer in the third period with a Miro Heiskanen goal, his third of the year, powered by Alexander Radulov and Jamie Benn. The Predators iced it at 4-2 with a Colton Sissons empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Mikael Granlund. The three stars were Jeannot, Duchene, and Saros (25 for 27 in saves).

Finally, the Arizona Coyotes bring in the Minnesota Wild. Kaapo Kahkonen and Karel Vejmelka are the lesser-known goalies. Minnesota began in the first period with a Joel Eriksson Ek power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Jared Spurgeon and Mats Zuccarello. The Wild added on with a Marcus Foligno goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Jon Merrill and Kevin Fiala. Arizona got on the board with an Andrew Ladd goal, his second of the season, coming off of Dmitrij Jaskin and Shayne Gostisbehere. Minnesota replied in the second period with a Fiala goal, his second of the year, via Spurgeon and Alex Goligoski. The Wild extended the lead as Dmitry Kulikov scored, thanks to Rem Pitlick and Merrill. Minnesota padded the lead on a Kirill Kaprizov power play goal, his third of the season, with assists provided by Zuccarello and Fiala. Scott Wedgewood replaced Vejmelka in goal in the third period. The Coyotes got one back with a Gostisbehere goal, his second of the year, helped along by Clayton Keller and Travis Boyd. This stood for a 5-2 final, with the three stars going to Fiala, Gostisbehere, and Zuccarello, while Spurgeon and Merrill get the honorable mentions.

NHL 2021-22 - Day 29

We're ready for ten games on a Tuesday, beginning with...

The Boston Bruins hosting the Ottawa Senators. Matt Murray and Jeremy Swayman are the goalies. Ottawa began in the first period with a Zach Sanford goal, assisted by Brady Tkachuk. Boston tied it in the second period with a Brad Marchand power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy. The Bruins took the lead on a Derek Forbort goal, his second of the year, guided in by Charlie Coyle and Taylor Hall. The Senators retied it on a Nikita Zaitsev goal, coming off of Tyler Ennis and Thomas Chabot. Boston retook the lead with a Patrice Bergeron goal, his fifth of the season, helped along by Pastrnak and McAvoy. This held for a 3-2 win, with the three stars going to Pastrnak, McAvoy, and Bergeron.

Over to Montreal, as the Canadiens welcome the Los Angeles Kings. Calvin Petersen and Jake Allen man the nets. Montreal opened in the first period with a Ben Chiarot goal, his third of the season, passed from Artturi Lehkonen. The Kings took the lead in the third period with an Alex Iafallo goal, his sixth of the year, going in unassisted. The Canadiens retied it with a Jake Evans goal, his second of the season, assisted by Lehkonen and Brett Kulak. Los Angeles won 3-2 in overtime with an Adrian Kempe goal, his fifth of the year, coming off of Andreas Athanasiou and Kale Clague. The three stars were Lehkonen, Kempe, and Iafallo.

Down in Tampa Bay, the Lightning bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen and Andrei Vasilevskiy tend the twines. Tampa Bay got going in the second period with a Steven Stamkos goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Mathieu Joseph and Alex Killorn. Carolina tied it on a Teuvo Teravainen power play goal in the third period, his third of the year, powered by Vincent Trocheck and Andrei Svechnikov. The Hurricanes won 2-1 in overtime with a Martin Necas goal, his third of the campaign, coming off of Sebastian Aho and Tony DeAngelo. The three stars belonged to Necas, Teravainen, and Andersen (17 for 18 in saves).

Back north, the New Jersey Devils host the Florida Panthers. Spencer Knight and MacKenzie Blackwood are the young goalies. Florida led off in the first period with a Sam Bennett goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Owen Tippett and Carter Verhaeghe. New Jersey tied it on an Andreas Johnsson power play goal, his fifth of the year, powered by Jesper Bratt and Damon Severson. The Panthers tied it in the second period with an Aleksander Barkov goal, his eighth of the year, courtesy of Verhaeghe and Anthony Duclair. Florida pulled ahead on a Tippett goal, his third of the season, assisted by Gustav Forsling and Jonathan Huberdeau. New Jersey retied it on a Johnsson goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year, passed from Dawson Mercer and Smith. The Devils pulled ahead again with a Subban goal, helped along by Mercer and Jonas Siegenthaler. New Jersey added on in the third period with a Pavel Zacha power play goal, his sixth of the season, with helpers from Hischier and Alexander Holtz. The Devils extended the lead as Smith scored, thanks to Tomas Tatar and Jesper Boqvist. New Jersey iced it at 7-3 with a Jimmy Vesey empty net goal, his third of the year, set up by Siegenthaler. The three stars were Johnsson, Smith, and Subban, while Hischier, Mercer, Siegenthaler, Tippett and Verhaeghe get the honorable mentions.

The Oilers got closer in the third period with a Connor McDavid goal, his ninth of the season, passed from Darnell Nurse and Evan Bouchard. The Red Wings iced it at 4-2 with a Moritz Seider empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by Rasmussen and Nick Leddy. The three stars belonged to Namestnikov, Rasmussen, and Nedeljkovic (31 for 33 in saves).

North to Winnipeg, as the Jets bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Connor Hellebuyck guard the cages. Winnipeg tied it in the second period with a Neal Pionk goal, his second of the year, via Dominic Toninato and Evgeny Svechnikov. The Jets took the lead in the third period with a Kyle Connor goal, his ninth of the season, coming off of Blake Wheeler and Logan Stanley. The Blues tied it on a Kyrou goal, his third of the year, guided in by Buchnevich and Calle Rosen. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Ryan O'Reilly's lone tally lifted the Blues 3-2 over the Jets. The three stars were Kyrou, Buchnevich, and Binnington (39 for 41 in saves).

To Chicago, as the Blackhawks host the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Marc-Andre Fleury are the masked men. The Blackhawks added on with a Seth Jones goal, courtesy of Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat. Pittsburgh got on the board in the third period with a Jeff Carter goal, his second of the season, coming off of Jake Guentzel and Mark Friedman. The Penguins tied it on a Carter goal, his second of the game and third of the year, passed from Guentzel and Bryan Rust. The tie went to a shootout, where Toews and DeBrincat scored to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 win. The three stars were Carter, DeBrincat, and Toews, while Guentzel gets an honorable mention.

Moving along to Calgary, as the Flames welcome the San Jose Sharks. Adin Hill and Jacob Markstrom are in the creases. San Jose added on with a Tomas Hertl empty net goal, his sixth of the season, set up by Burns and Hill. The Sharks iced it at 4-1 with a Jonathan Dahlen empty net goal, his sixth of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars were Hill (37 for 38 in saves, two helpers), Burns, and Couture.

Finally, the Vegas Golden Knights host the Seattle Kraken. Chris Driedger and Robin Lehner draw the starts in goal. Vegas tied it on an Alex Pietrangelo goal, his third of the year, via Chandler Stephenson and William Carrier. The Kraken took the lead in the second period with a Yanni Gourde goal, his third of the season, assisted by Brandon Tanev and Joonas Donskoi. NHL 2021-22 - Day 28

Just three games on for this Monday. We begin with...

The New York Rangers hosting the Florida Panthers. Spencer Knight and Igor Shesterkin man the nets. New York began in the first period with a Chris Kreider power play goal, his ninth of the season, powered by Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin. The Rangers added on with an Adam Fox shorthanded goal, his third of the year, set up by Barclay Goodrow and Zibanejad. New York extended the lead in the second period as K'Andre Miller scored, thanks to Kreider. The Rangers padded the lead on a Ryan Strome goal, his second of the season, coming off of Panarin and Jacob Trouba. Florida got on the board in the third period with an Eetu Luostarinen goal, his fourth of the year, made possible by Patric Hornqvist and Mason Marchment. The Panthers got closer with a Sam Reinhart goal, his third of the season, courtesy of Owen Tippett and Radko Gudas. Florida chipped closer on a Hornqvist goal, his second of the year, assisted by Aleksander Barkov. This only made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars going to Kreider, Hornqvist, and Zibanejad, while Panarin gets an honorable mention. 

To DC, as the Washington Capitals welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Dustin Tokarski and Vitek Vanecek are the goalies. Washington led off in the first period with a Tom Wilson goal, his second of the season, via Alex Ovechkin and Trevor van Riemsdyk. The Capitals added on with a Connor McMichael goal, his second of the year, assisted by Justin Schultz and Carl Hagelin in the second period. Buffalo got on the board with a Cody Eakin goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. Washington replied with an Ovechkin goal, his eleventh of the year, guided in by Dmitry Orlov and Evgeny Kuznetsov. The Sabres got one back with an Anders Bjork goal in the third period, his second of the season, helped along by Arttu Ruotsalainen and Robert Hagg. The Capitals shot back on a Wilson goal, his second of the game and third of the year, coming off of Kuznetsov. Washington extended the lead as John Carlson scored a power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Kuznetsov and Ovechkin. Buffalo answered on a Colin Miller goal, with helpers from Mark Pysyk and Vinnie Hinostroza. This stood for a 5-3 final, with the three stars given to Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, and Wilson. 

Finally, the Toronto Maple Leafs bring in the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Jack Campbell are the former teammates in goal. Los Angeles struck first in the first period with a Trevor Moore goal, via Carl Grundstrom and Rasmus Kupari. The Kings added on with an Andreas Athanasiou goal, coming off of Phillip Danault and Alex Iafallo. Toronto got on the board in the second period with a John Tavares power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Mitchell Marner and William Nylander. Los Angeles countered with a Danault goal, his second of the year, made possible by Athanasiou and Iafallo. The Kings extended the lead in the third period as Danault scored again, his second of the game and third of the season going in unassisted. Los Angeles iced it at 5-1 with an Adrian Kempe empty net goal, his fourth of the year, set up by Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar. The three stars were Danault, Athanasiou, and Quick (33 for 34 in saves), while Iafallo gets an honorable mention.

NHL 2021-22 - Day 27

We've got five games on a Sunday, beginning with...

The Detroit Red Wings hosting the Vegas Golden Knights. Laurent Brossoit and Thomas Greiss are the backups in goal. Vegas started in the first period with a Nicolas Roy goal, his second of the season, via Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore. Detroit tied it on a Lucas Raymond power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Tyler Bertuzzi and Filip Zadina. The Red Wings took the lead with a Robby Fabbri power play goal, his third of the season, with assists provided by Pius Suter and Nick Leddy. Detroit added on with a Suter goal, his third of the year, guided in by Filip Hronek and Leddy. The Red Wings extended the lead in the second period as Vladislav Namestnikov scored his fifth of the season, thanks to Mitchell Stephens and Sam Gagner. The Golden Knights got one back in the third period on a Jonathan Marchessault goal, his sixth of the year, fueled by Roy. Detroit iced it at 5-2 with a Bertuzzi empty net goal, his ninth of the campaign, set up by Gagner and Hronek. The three stars were Suter, Bertuzzi, and Roy, while Hronek, Leddy, and Gagner get the honorable mentions. 

Along to Chicago, as the Blackhawks welcome the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Kevin Lankinen are the Finnish goalies. Chicago got going in the second period with a Brandon Hagel goal, his fourth of the season, helped along by Seth Jones and Jonathan Toews. Nashville tied it on an Alexandre Carrier goal, going in unassisted. The Blackhawks won 2-1 in overtime with an Alex DeBrincat goal, his seventh of the year, via Patrick Kane and the goalie Lankinen. The three stars were Lankinen (20 for 21 in saves), DeBrincat, and Hagel.

Up in Minnesota, the Wild host the New York Islanders. Semyon Varlamov and Kaapo Kahkonen are in the blue paint. New York opened in the first period with an Anders Lee goal, his third of the season, coming off of Zdeno Chara and Mathew Barzal. Minnesota tied it in the second period on a Nick Bjugstad goal, his second of the year, via Brandon Duhaime. The Islanders regained the lead on another Lee goal, his second of the game and fourth of the season, assisted by Barzal. The Wild tied it again in the third period with a Ryan Hartman goal, his sixth of the year, courtesy of Dmitry Kulikov and Nico Sturm. Minnesota pulled ahead with a Duhaime goal, his second of the season, fueled by Hartman and Matt Dumba. The Wild added on with a Jonas Brodin empty net goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. Minnesota iced it at 5-2 with an unassisted Dumba empty net goal, his second of the campaign. The three stars were Duhaime, Hartman, and Dumba, while Lee and Barzal get the honorable mentions.

Out west, the Anaheim Ducks bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and John Gibson tend the twines. St. Louis began in the first period with a Brandon Saad goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by David Perron and Colton Parayko. Anaheim tied it on a Sam Carrick goal, his third of the year, via Derek Grant and Benoit-Olivier Groulx in the second period. The Ducks took the lead with a Terry power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Sonny Milano and Cam Fowler. Anaheim added on with a Sam Steel goal, his third of the year, courtesy of Hampus Lindholm and Nicolas Deslauriers. The Ducks finished it at 4-1 with a Groulx empty net goal, set up by Terry and Lindholm.

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks host the Dallas Stars. Anton Khudobin and Thatcher Demko are the masked men. Dallas led off in the first period with a Joe Pavelski power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz. Vancouver tied it on a J.T. Miller power play goal in the second period, his fourth of the year, with assists provided by Quinn Hughes and Brock Boeser. The Canucks took the lead on an Elias Pettersson power play goal, his second of the season, made possible by Hughes and Bo Horvat. Vancouver added on with a Horvat goal, his fifth of the year, fueled by Tanner Pearson and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Stars got one back with a Luke Glendening goal, his third of the season, guided in by Robertson and Ryan Suter. The Canucks replied with a Vasily Podkolzin goal, his third of the year, helped along by Conor Garland and Horvat. Dallas got one back with a Jamie Benn power play goal, his third of the season, with helpers from Suter and Miro Heiskanen. Vancouver responded with a Miller power play goal, his second of the game and fifth of the year, coming off of Hughes and Pettersson. The Canucks iced it at 6-3 with a Boeser empty net goal, his fourth of the campaign, set up by Pettersson. NHL 2021-22 - Day 26

There's 12 games on today, with just one matinee. First up...

The Ottawa Senators host the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brian Elliott and Matt Murray are the goalies. Tampa Bay opened in the first period with a Victor Hedman power play goal, powered by Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point. Ottawa tied it in the second period with a Connor Brown goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. The Lightning retook the lead on a Jan Rutta goal, coming off of Ondrej Palat. The Senators tied it on a Brady Tkachuk goal, his third of the year, passed from Drake Batherson and Josh Norris. Tampa Bay reclaimed the lead in the third period with a Stamkos goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Alex Killorn and Mathieu Joseph. The Lightning added on with a Palat goal, his fourth of the year, guided in by Anthony Cirelli and Ryan McDonagh. Tampa Bay extended the lead on a Cirelli empty net goal, his third of the campaign, set up by Palat and Point. Ottawa got one back with a Logan Shaw goal, with helpers from Victor Mete and Parker Kelly. This only made it 5-3, the final, with the three stars going to Palat, Stamkos, and Cirelli, while Point gets an honorable mention. 

Down in Florida, the Panthers welcome the Carolina Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen and Spencer Knight man the nets. Florida started in the first period with an Anthony Duclair power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Carter Verhaeghe and Brandon Montour. The Panthers added on with a Frank Vatrano power play goal, his second of the year, with assists provided by Montour and Duclair. Florida extended the lead as Anton Lundell scored his third of the season, thanks to Owen Tippett and Radko Gudas. The Panthers padded the lead on a Patric Hornqvist power play goal, fueled by Reinhart and Anthony Duclair. Antti Raanta took over for Andersen in goal to start the second period. Carolina got on the board in the second period with a Jesper Fast goal, his fifth of the year, passed from Jaccob Slavin and Vincent Trocheck. The Hurricanes pulled closer with a Trocheck power play goal, his third of the season, with helpers from Andrei Svechnikov and Teuvo Teravainen. Florida iced it at 5-2 with a Duclair empty net goal, his second of the game and eighth of the year, set up by Verhaeghe. The three stars were Duclair, Montour, and Trocheck, while Verhaeghe gets an honorable mention.

Buffalo added on in the third period with an Arttu Ruotsalainen goal, his second of the season, made possible by Colin Miller and John Hayden. The Red Wings got one back with a Bertuzzi goal, his seventh of the year, via Danny DeKeyser and Raymond. Detroit tied it on another Bertuzzi goal, his second of the game and eighth of the season, guided in by Suter and Raymond. The Red Wings won 4-3 in overtime with a Moritz Seider goal, set up by Bertuzzi. The three stars were Bertuzzi, Raymond, and Suter, while Asplund gets an honorable mention.

Into Canada, as the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Boston Bruins. Linus Ullmark and Jack Campbell are in the blue paint. Boston kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Taylor Hall power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. Toronto tied it on a John Tavares goal, his fifth of the year, helped along by Mitchell Marner and Morgan Rielly. The Maple Leafs took the lead with an Auston Matthews power play goal, his fourth of the season, with an assist provided by Marner. Toronto added on with another Matthews power play goal, his second of the game and fifth of the year, courtesy of Rielly and Marner. The Maple Leafs extended the lead as Tavares scored his second of the game and sixth of the season, thanks to William Nylander and Rasmus Sandin. The Bruins got one back with a David Pastrnak goal, his third of the year, coming off of Marchand. Toronto iced it at 5-2 with a Marner empty net goal, his third of the season, going in unassisted. The three stars were awarded to Marner, Matthews, and Tavares, while Rielly and Marchand get the honorable mentions.

Along to Quebec, as the Montreal Canadiens welcome the Vegas Golden Knights. Robin Lehner and Jake Allen are the veteran goalies. Montreal was first to score in the first period with a Nick Suzuki power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Mike Hoffman. The Canadiens added on with a Tyler Toffoli goal, his third of the year, guided in by Brendan Gallagher and Suzuki. Vegas got on the board in the second period with an Alex Pietrangelo power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Shea Theodore and Chandler Stephenson. The Golden Knights tied it on a Jonathan Marchessault goal, his fifth of the year, made possible by Nicolas Roy and Nicolas Hague. Vegas took the lead with a Dylan Coghlan power play goal, with helpers from Pietrangelo and Reilly Smith. The Golden Knights extended the lead with a Stephenson empty net goal, his fifth of the season, going in unassisted. Back stateside, the Pittsburgh Penguins bring in the Minnesota Wild. Cam Talbot and Tristan Jarry are the masked men. Minnesota struck first in the first period with a Kirill Kaprizov goal, his second of the season, assisted by Alex Goligoski and Frederick Gaudreau. Pittsburgh tied it on a Kasperi Kapanen goal, courtesy of Jason Zucker and Evan Rodrigues. The Penguins took the lead with another Kapanen goal, his second of the game, via Rodrigues and Zucker. Pittsburgh added on in the second period with a Jake Guentzel goal, his third of the year, coming off of Bryan Rust and Mike Matheson. The Wild got one back with a Joel Eriksson Ek goal, his fourth of the season, helped along by Jared Spurgeon and Jonas Brodin. The Penguins replied with a Kapanen goal to finish a hat trick, with the help of Bryan Rust and Kris Letang. Minnesota got closer with a Spurgeon goal, his second of the year, guided in by Gaudreau and Kaprizov. The Wild tied it on a Ryan Hartman goal, his fifth of the season, made possible by Matt Dumba and Adam Beckman. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Kevin Fiala, Kaprizov, and Nick Bjugstad lifted the Wild 5-4 over Guentzel, Rust, and the Penguins. The three stars belonged to Kapanen, Spurgeon, and Kaprizov, while Gaudreau, Rust, Rodrigues, and Zucker get the honorable mentions.

Next up, the Washington Capitals host the Philadelphia Flyers. Martin Jones and Vitek Vanecek are between the pipes. Philadelphia got going in the second period with a Derick Brassard goal, his second of the season, fueled by Cam Atkinson and Justin Braun. The Flyers added on with a Sean Couturier goal, his fifth of the year, via Rasmus Ristolainen and Claude Giroux. Washington got on the board with a Brett Leason goal, his second of the season, coming off of Connor McMichael and John Carlson. This only made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars going to Jones (31 for 32 in saves), Couturier, and Brassard.

To Columbus, as the Blue Jackets welcome the Colorado Avalanche. Darcy Kuemper and Elvis Merzlikins protect the nets. Columbus drew first blood in the first period with a Gabriel Carlsson goal, via Jakub Voracek and Yegor Chinakhov. Colorado tied it on an Andre Burakovsky goal, his second of the season, assisted by Nazem Kadri and Samuel Girard. The Avalanche took the lead in the second period with another Burakovsky goal, his second of the game and third of the year, going in unassisted. The Blue Jackets tied it in the third period with an Alexandre Texier goal, his third of the season, passed from Eric Robinson and the goalie Merzlikins. Columbus took the lead with a Cole Sillinger goal, his fourth of the year, courtesy of Chinakhov and Vladislav Gavrikov. The Blue Jackets iced it at 4-2 with an Oliver Bjorkstrand goal, his fifth of the campaign, set up by Boone Jenner and Gavrikov. The three stars were Chinakhov, Burakovsky, and Gavrikov.

Up in Winnipeg, the Jets bring in the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin faces a lesser foe in Eric Comrie in goal. New York began in the first period with an Anders Lee goal, his second of the season, made possible by Josh Bailey. The Islanders added on in the third period with a Brock Nelson goal, his seventh of the year, via Kyle Palmieri and Adam Pelech. This made it 2-0, the final, with the three stars handed to Sorokin (24 save shutout), Lee, and Nelson.

Further west, the Calgary Flames host the New York Rangers. Igor Shesterkin and Jacob Markstrom tend the twines. Calgary dented the scoreboard in the first period with a Sean Monahan power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Matthew Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm. The Flames added on with a Brad Richardson goal, via Oliver Kylington and Trevor Lewis. Calgary extended the lead as Johnny Gaudreau scored his third of the year, coming off of Tkachuk and Noah Hanifin. The Flames padded the lead on another Gaudreau goal, his second of the game and fourth of the season, helped along by Tkachuk. Calgary continued with a Milan Lucic goal, his fourth of the year, passed from Dillon Dube and Andrew Mangiapane. The Flames struck again with a Tkachuk goal, his sixth of the season, set up by Gaudreau. This made it 6-0, the final, with the three stars awarded to Markstrom (22 save shutout), Tkachuk, and Gaudreau, while Lindholm gets an honorable mention.

Along to Arizona, as the Coyotes welcome the Seattle Kraken. Philipp Grubauer and Karel Vejmelka receive the starting nods in goal. Seattle cracked the scoresheet in the first period with a Jordan Eberle goal, his sixth of the season, with a lone assist by Alexander Wennberg. The Kraken added on with a Yanni Gourde goal, his second of the year, assisted by Brandon Tanev and Jamie Oleksiak. Scott Wedgewood replaced Vejmelka in goal. Arizona got on the board with an Antoine Roussel goal, guided in by Shayne Gostisbehere. Seattle replied with a Nathan Bastian goal, going in unassisted. The Coyotes fired back in the second period with a Travis Boyd goal, his second of the season, made possible by Christian Fischer and Gostisbehere. Arizona tied it in the third period on a Lawson Crouse goal, his third of the year, guided by Johan Larsson and Jakob Chychrun. The Coyotes pulled ahead with a Phil Kessel power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Clayton Keller and Gostisbehere. The Kraken tied it again with a Mark Giordano goal, his third of the year, an unassisted goal. Arizona regained the lead with a Crouse goal, his second of the game and fourth of the campaign, via Larsson. This stood for a 5-4 win, with the three stars given to Crouse, Gostisbehere, and Larsson.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the New Jersey Devils. Jonathan Bernier and James Reimer are the veterans in goal. San Jose got on the board in the second period with a Rudolfs Balcers goal, his second of the season, assisted by Mario Ferraro and Brent Burns. New Jersey tied it on a Ryan Graves goal, via Nico Hischier and Michael McLeod. The Sharks took the lead back in the third period with a Jonathan Dahlen power play goal, his fifth of the year, powered by Burns and Nick Merkley. The Devils tied it with a Janne Kuokkanen goal, his second of the season, made possible by Jimmy Vesey and Colton White. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Jesper Bratt and Damon Severson lifted the Devils 3-2 over Logan Couture and the Sharks. The three stars were Bernier (25 for 27 in saves), Kuokkanen, and Graves.
