Only two games on tonight. On the east coast...
The Boston Bruins host the New York Islanders. Evgeni Nabokov and Tuukka Rask earned the starts, although Nabokov was soon subbed out in favor of Al Montoya. Boston led off with a Benoit Pouliot goal, assisted by Jordan Caron. New York replied with Matt Moulson putting his third of the season away, courtesy of Steve Staios and Michael Grabner. The Bruins regained the lead on a power play goal by Nathan Horton, his third of the year, powered by Zdeno Chara and David Krejci. Boston extended the lead and chased Nabokov away on Tyler Seguin's eighth of the season, with helpers provided by Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. The Islanders got one back before the first period ended with Grabner notching his fourth of the year, via John Tavares and Moulson. The Bruins made it 4-2 in the third period with Milan Lucic potting his seventh of the season, thanks to Horton and Krejci. Horton kept Boston going with his second of the game and fourth of the year, guided in by Joe Corvo and Dennis Seidenberg. The Bruins put it away on a Krejci goal, his third of the campaign going into the empty net with assistance from Chara and Lucic. The final was 6-2, with Horton, Seguin, and Krejci being the three stars. Chara, Grabner, and Lucic earn honorable mentions.
The other game is a battle of California edition game, with the San Jose Sharks hosting the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Antti Niemi are between the pipes. Los Angeles broke open the scoring in the second period with the fourth of the season by Jack Johnson, a power play goal from Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar (his tenth assist). San Jose tied it on a Joe Thornton goal, his fourth of the year, made possible by Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski. The Sharks gained the lead on Marleau's fourth of the campaign, courtesy of Dan Boyle and Ryane Clowe. San Jose extended the lead with a Boyle power play goal, powered by Pavelski and Marleau. In the third period, the Sharks extended the lead again with the sixth of the season for Logan Couture, coming on passes by Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Thornton. The Kings got to 4-2, but no farther, as Kopitar put away his eighth of the year, a power play goal set up by Doughty and the goalie Quick. The three stars were Marleau, Thornton, and Boyle, while the other good performances came from Pavelski, Doughty, and Kopitar.
