KHL February 17th 2013

The KHL regular season ends today, with all teams in action to close the season. We begin in...

Omsk, as Avangard hosts Dynamo Moscow. Alexander Yeryomenko and Karri Ramo are given the starting nods. Moscow got going in the second period with an Alexei Tsvetkov goal, assisted by Denis Kokarev. Dynamo added on in the third period when Ilya Gorokhov scored, with a lone assist by Konstantin Gorovikov. Moscow iced it at 3-0 with an empty net goal by Janne Jalasvaara, set up by Tsvetkov and Dmitry Pestunov. The three stars were handed to Tsvetkov, Yeryomenko (32 save shutout), and Gorokhov.

North to Khanty-Mansiysk, as Yugra hosts Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. Evgeny Lobanov and Edgars Masalskis play in the blue paint. Khanty-Mansiysk was first on the board in the second period as Vitaly Sitnikov scored, courtesy of Mikhail Zhukov, a shorthanded goal. Yugra added on in the third period as Konstantin Glazachev scored a power play goal, powered by Anton But. Khanty-Mansiysk padded the lead with an unassisted goal from Sitnikov. Yugra finished the scoring at 4-0 with an Alexander Rybakov goal, fueled by Glazachev. The three stars belonged to Masalskis (30 save shutout), Sitnikov, and Glazachev.

Southwest to Magnitogorsk, as Metallurg brings in Traktor Chelyabinsk. Michael Garnett and Ari Ahonen guard the cages. Chelyabinsk opened in the first period as Yegor Dugin scored, thanks to Maxim Karpov. Traktor extended the lead as Valery Nichushkin scored an unassisted goal. Chelaybinsk padded the lead with an Evgeny Kuznetsov goal, set up by Evgeny Katichev and Maxim Yakutsenya. Traktor kept going as Dugin scored again, with the help of Nikita Nesterov and Anton Glinkin. Magnitogorsk got on the board with a power play goal by Denis Platonov, powered by Cal O'Reilly and Mats Zuccarello. Georgy Gelashvili relieved Ahonen for the third period. The scoring ended at 4-1, with the three stars being Dugin, Garnett (19 for 20 in saves), and Nichushkin.

Down in Astana, Barys hosts SKA St. Petersburg. Ivan Kisutin and Vitaly Yeremeyev will man the creases. St. Petersburg struck first in the first period on a Tony Martensson goal, assisted by Kevin Dallman and Patrick Thoresen. SKA added on with an Alexander Osipov goal, going down unassisted. Astana got on the board in the second period when Dustin Boyd scored, with the help of Andrew Hutchinson and Brandon Bochenski. Barys tied it with a Nigel Dawes goal, coming off of Bochenski and Boyd. Astana took the lead on a power play goal by Konstantin Pushkaryov, powered by Talgat Zhailauov and Alexei Troshchinsky. St. Petersburg retied it as Thoresen scored an unassisted goal. Barys regained the lead in the third period on a Dmitry Upper goal, passed from Konstantin Rudenko and Roman Starchenko. Astana padded the lead as Maxim Spiridonov scored a goal, guided in by Mikhail Rakhmanov. SKA got one back as Martensson scored, with a lone helper provided by Maxim Chudinov. They failed to tie the game, losing 5-4, with the three stars belonging to Boyd, Martensson, and Bochenski, while Thoresen gets an honorable mention.

Northwest to Mytishchi, as Atlant welcomes Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Ilya Sorokin and Stanislav Galimov are all padded up. Mytishchi led off in the first period as Maxim Mayorov scored a goal, assisted by Ivan Vishnevsky and Alexander Shevchenko. Atlant added on as Andreas Engqvist scored a power play goal, powered by Mayorov. Yury Klyuchnikov relieved Sorokin at this time. Mytishchi padded the lead in the second period as Vishnevsky put away a power play goal, passed from Engqvist and Ilya Kablukov. Atlant extended the lead when Gleb Klimenko scored a power play goal, made possible by Yaroslav Dyblenko and Nikita Tochitsky. Mytishchi wrapped it up at 5-0 in the third period with a Mikhail Glukhov goal, with a lone assist by Vishnevsky. The three stars were awarded to Vishnevsky, Engqvist, and Mayorov.

Down in Moscow, Spartak hosts their cross-town rivals, CSKA Moscow. Ilya Proskuryakov and Jan Lasak are between the pipes. Spartak started in the second period with a Vyacheslav Kozlov goal, going in unassisted. CSKA tied it on a Viktor Kozlov goal, passed from Patrick Davis and Oleg Kvasha. CSKA took the lead on a Janis Sprukts goal, courtesy of Igor Ozhiganov. Spartak tied it again with a Jaroslav Obsut goal, made possible by Vyacheslav Kozlov. Spartak took the lead on a Yegor Mikhailov goal, guided in by Andrei Shefer. Spartak extended the lead in the third period as Andrei Ankudinov scored, thanks to Anatoly Nikontsev and Nikolai Bushuyev. This stood for a 4-2 win, with the three stars being Vyacheslav Kozlov, Mikhailov, and Lasak (25 for 27 in saves).

Further south in Chekhov, Vityaz brings in Ak Bars Kazan. Jani Nieminen and Ivan Lisutin will attempt to block the puck. Chekhov began in the second period as Georgy Belousov scored a power play goal, courtesy of Evgeny Timkin and Alexei Badyukov. Kazan tied it with a power play goal by Stepan Zakharchuk, with a lone assist provided by Nikolai Zherdev. Ak Bars took the lead in the third period as Alexei Tereshchenko scored a power play goal, powered by Zakharchuk and Zherdev. Kazan added on as Janne Pesonen scored an unassisted power play goal. Vityaz replied on a Vladimir Malevich power play goal, coming off of Badyukov. They failed to tie the game, losing 3-2, with the three stars being Zakharchuk, Zherdev, and Badyukov.

Up in Cherepovets, Severstal hosts Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. Maxim Sokolov and Vasily Koshechkin are the goalies. Nizhnekamsk was first to score in the first period on a shorthanded and unassisted goal by Yegor Milovzorov. Cherepovets tied it when Linus Videll scored a power play goal, powered by Alexander Ryazantsev and Mikhail Anisin. Neftekhimik took the lead again in the second period with an unassisted power play goal by Yaroslav Alshevsky. Severstal tied it again on a third period penalty shot goal by Pavel Buchnevich, which came to fruition after he was hooked on a breakaway by Anton Yefremov. Nizhnekamsk replied with a penalty shot conversion of their own, scored by Andrei Subbotin, after he was hooked on a breakaway by Ryazantsev. Cherepovets retied it on a Stanislav Yegorshev goal, coming shorthanded via Vadim Shipachyov and Anisin. Neftekhimik won 4-3 in overtime on a power play goal by Vitaly Shulakov, with a lone assist provided by Milovzorov. The three stars were Milovzorov, Shulakov, and Anisin.

Over to Yaroslavl, where Lokomotiv hosts Sibir Novosibirsk. Sergei Gaiduchenko and Curtis Sanford earn the starts. Yaroslavl opened with an unassisted Sergei Plotnikov goal. Novosibirsk tied it in the second period as Sergei Shumakov scored a goal, guided in by Alexander Romanov and Alexander Kutuzov. Sibir took the lead as Jonas Enlund scored a shorthanded and unassisted goal. Novosibirsk added on in the third period when Stepan Sannikov scored, via Enlund. Sibir padded the lead as Enlund put the puck in the empty net, with the help of Kutuzov. Lokomotiv got one back late as Vladislav Kartayev scored a shorthanded goal, with an assist provided by Vitaly Vishnevsky. This made it 4-2, the final, with Enlund, Kutuzov, and Gaiduchenko (26 for 28 in saves) getting the three stars.

East to Nizhny Novgorod, where Torpedo hosts Amur Khabarovsk. Alexei Kuznetsov and Vitaly Koval protect the nets. Nizhny Novgorod struck first in the first period with a Vladimir Galuzin goal, fueled by Alexander Yevseyenkov. Torpedo extended the lead in the second period as Jonas Andersson scored, courtesy of Juuso Hietanen and Dmitry Makarov. Khabarovsk got on the board with a Nikita Gusev goal, coming off of Vladimir Loginov and Timofei Shishkanov. Nizhny Novgorod replied with a third period goal by Pyotr Schastlivy, assisted by Ilya Davydov and Alexei Vasilyev. Amur pulled back as Evgeny Orlov scored, with the help of Vyacheslav Litovchenko. They failed to pull even, losing 3-2, with the three stars belonging to Schastlivy, Andersson, and Galuzin.

Out in Belarus, Dinamo Minsk welcomes Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Andrei Vasilyevsky and Lars Haugen are the masked men. Ufa got going in the second period as Miroslav Blatak scored a power play goal, powered by Stefan Ruzicka and Sergei Zinovyev. Salavat Yulaev added on in the third period when Alexander Pankov scored a power play goal, made possible by Alexander Svitov and Anton Slepyshev. Minsk got on the board with a Cory Murphy goal, fueled by Janne Niskala and Tim Stapleton. Dinamo tied it as Niskala scored, with the help of Murphy and Kim Hirschovits. Ufa took the lead back on another Pankov goal, courtesy of Vitaly Atyushov and Alexei Kaigorodov. This made it 3-2, a final, with the three stars being Pankov, Murphy, and Niskala.

Into Latvia, where Dinamo Riga brings in Slovan Bratislava. Jaroslav Janus and Maris Jucers are set to start. Bratislava started in the first period with a Michal Sersen power play goal, powered by Juraj Mikus and Michel Miklik. Riga tied it with a Roberts Bukarts goal, fueled by Krisjanis Redlihs. Dinamo took the lead in the second period as Martins Karsums scored a power play goal, assisted by Redlihs and Krisjaps Sotnieks. Riga padded the lead in the third period with a Jamie Johnson goal, made possible by Vitalijs Pavlovs and Rodrigo Lavins. This held up for a 3-1 win, with the three stars being Redlihs, Karsums, and Jucers (23 for 24 in saves).

Finally, we end in Ukraine, with Donbass Donetsk hosting Lev Praha. Jakub Stepanek and Christopher Holt are in front of the cages. Praha led off in the second period with an Aleksandrs Nizivijs goal, passed from Tomas Surovy and Martins Cipulis. Donetsk tied it in the third period as Evgeny Dadonov scored a shorthanded goal, guided in by Pasi Puistola. Donbass won 2-1 in the shootout on a lone tally by Tuomas Kiiskinen. The three stars were Kiiskinen, Holt (35 for 36 in saves), and Stepanek (33 for 34 in saves).
