2015/16 KHL Day 87/NHL Day 53

Eight games on for today, beginning with...

Avangard Omsk hosting Dynamo Moscow as one of seven in the Russian league. Alexander Yeryomenko and Dominik Furch guard the cages. Omsk dented the scoreboard in the second period on a Denis Parshin goal, passed from Ilya Zubov. Moscow tied it on an Alexander Osipov goal, via Alexei Tereshchenko. Avangard retook the lead with an Alexander Perezhogin goal, guided in by Sergei Shirokov and Zubov. Dynamo retied it in the third period on an Artyom Fyodorov, courtesy of Dmitry Vishnevsky and Alexei Tsvetkov on the power play. The tie went to a shootout, where Yury Petrov got matched by Fyodorov before Zubov won it 3-2 for Avangard. The three stars were Zubov, Fyodorov, and Yeryomenko (29 for 31 in saves).

Up in Khanty-Mansiysk, Yugra welcomes Slovan Bratislava. Michael Garnett and Georgy Gelashvili are in the blue paint. Bratislava got going in the second period on a power play goal by Ladislav Nagy, powered by Lubomir Visnovsky and Ziga Jeglic. Khanty-Mansiysk tied it on a Konstantin Panov goal, made possible by Evgeny Lapenkov. Slovan took the lead on a David Skokan goal, with a lone assist by Patrik Lusnak in the third period. Bratislava added on with a Michel Miklik empty net goal, set up by Lukas Kaspar. The three stars of the 3-1 game were Garnett (26 for 27 in saves), Skokan, and Nagy.

West to Chelyabinsk, where Traktor hosts Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Niklas Svedberg and Pavel Francouz. Ufa got started in the second period on an Andreas Engqvist goal, coming off of Sami Lepisto and Alexander Loginov. Chelyabinsk tied it on an Alexei Kruchinin goal, made possible by Stanislav Chistov. Salavat Yulaev took the lead in the third period with a Loginov power play goal, powered by Engqvist and Linus Omark. Ufa iced it at 3-1 with a Maxim Mayorov empty net goal, set up by Teemu Hartikainen. The three stars were awarded to Loginov, Engqvist, and Svedberg (24 for 25 in saves).

South to Kazakhstan, where Barys Astana brings in Vityaz Podolsk. Harri Sateri and Pavel Poluektov draw the starts. Astana led off in the first period on an unassisted goal by Brandon Bochenski. Barys added on in the second period with another Bochenski goal, going in unassisted. Astana extended the lead in the third period as Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev scored a power play goal, thanks to Maxim Khudyakov and Konstantin Pushkaryov. Podolsk got on the board with a Pavel Lukin goal, coming off of Ilya Davydov and Alexei Makeyev. Barys wrapped it up at 4-1 with a Roman Starchenko goal, via Talgat Zhailauov and Kevin Dallman. The three stars belonged to Bochenski, Poluektov (25 for 26 in saves), and Krasnoslobodtsev.

Back in Russia, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg hosts Medvescak Zagreb. Danny Taylor and Jakub Kovar are the masked men. Zagreb drew first blood in the second period on a Simon Gysbers goal, assisted by Alexandre Bolduc. This held up for a 1-0 final, with the three stars handed to Taylor (34 save shutout), Gysbers, and Kovar (32 for 33 in saves).

Up in Finland, Jokerit Helsinki welcomes Ak Bars Kazan. Emil Garipov and Henrik Karlsson are between the pipes. Helsinki began in the first period with a Jere Sallinen goal, via Niko Kapanen and Pekka Jormakka. Jokerit added on in the third period with a Peter Regin goal, assisted by Jesse Joensuu and Sallinen. Kazan got on the board with a Justin Azevedo goal, guided in by Vladimir Tkachyov and Damir Musin. The final stood at 2-1, with the three stars being Sallinen, Karlsson (24 for 25 in saves), and Regin.

The last KHL game is Dinamo Riga hosting Lada Togliatti. Edgars Masalskis and Joacim Eriksson are the goalies. Riga struck first in the first period on a Mikelis Redlihs goal, courtesy of Lauris Darzins. Dinamo added on in the second period with a Darzins goal, with a lone helper by Redlihs on the power play. The final held at 2-0, with the three stars going to Redlihs, Darzins, and Eriksson (22 save shutout).

Finally, the NHL's Detroit Red Wings bring in the Florida Panthers. Roberto Luongo and Petr Mrazek are the solid goalies. Detroit was first to score in the second period on an unassisted Dylan Larkin goal, his tenth of the season, going in unassisted. Florida tied it in the third period on a Reilly Smith goal, his sixth of the year, courtesy of Aaron Ekblad. The Panthers won in overtime with a Brian Campbell goal, his second of the campaign, helped along by Jonathan Huberdeau and Jussi Jokinen. The three stars went to Luongo (28 for 29 in saves), Campbell, and Smith.
