2015-16 NHL Season - Day 143

Six games on for today's festivities, beginning with...

The Chicago Blackhawks hosting the Detroit Red Wings. Petr Mrazek and Corey Crawford tend the twines. Chicago led off in the first period with a Patrick Kane goal, his thirty-eighth of the season, helped along by Michal Rozsival. The Blackhawks added on with a Duncan Keith power play goal, his ninth of the year, powered by Artemi Panarin and Artem Anisimov. Jimmy Howard replaced Mrazek at this time. Detroit got on the board with a Gustav Nyquist goal, his sixteenth of the season, coming off of Danny DeKeyser. Chicago replied in the third period with an Anisimov power play goal, his nineteenth of the year, via Panarin and Brent Seabrook. The Blackhawks extended the lead as Jonathan Toews scored his twenty-fourth of the season, thanks to Andrew Desjardins and Rozsival. The final stood from here at 4-1, with the three stars being Anisimov, Crawford (33 for 34 in saves), and Panarin, while Rozsival gets an honorable mention.

East to New Jersey, where the Devils welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins. Matt Murray and Keith Kinkaid are the goalies showing off alliterative names. Pittsburgh opened in the first period with an Evgeni Malkin power play goal, his twenty-sixth of the season, powered by Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang. The Penguins added on with a Matt Cullen goal, his tenth of the year, going in unassisted. Pittsburgh extended the lead as Nick Bonino scored in the second period, his fourth of the season, thanks to Bryan Rust and Tom Kuhnhackl. New Jersey got on the board with a Kyle Palmieri goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, via Reid Boucher. The Penguins replied with Malkin's second of the game and twenty-seventh of the season, with a lone helper by Phil Kessel. Pittsburgh padded the lead with a third period Rust goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Justin Schultz and Bonino. The Penguins made it 6-1 with a Scott Wilson goal, his fifth of the campaign, made possible by Crosby and Rust. The three stars belonged to Rust, Malkin, and Bonino, while Crosby gets an honorable mention.

Nearby in Brooklyn, the New York Islanders bring in crosstown rivals in the New York Rangers. Antti Raanta and Jaroslav Halak man the nets. The Islanders began in the first period with a Johnny Boychuk goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo. The Islanders added on with a Brock Nelson goal, his twenty-second of the year, via John Tavares and Thomas Hickey. The Islanders extended the lead as Okposo scored his seventeenth of the season on the power play, powered by Nick Leddy and Frans Nielsen. The Rangers got on the board with an Oscar Lindberg goal, his twelfth of the year, helped along by Eric Staal. The Rangers got closer with a Tanner Glass goal, his third of the season, guided in by Dominic Moore and Kevin Hayes. The Islanders shot back as Boychuk scored his second of the game and seventh of the year, with the help of Anders Lee and Leddy. The Rangers pulled back on a Staal goal, his eleventh of the season, made possible by Dan Boyle and Viktor Stalberg. The Rangers tied it in the third period on a Derick Brassard power play goal, his twenty-third of the year, fueled by Keith Yandle and Derek Stepan. The Islanders retook the lead with a Cal Clutterbuck goal, his twelfth of the season, passed from Casey Cizikas. The Islanders iced it at 6-4 with a Nielsen empty net goal, his nineteenth of the year, set up by Nikolay Kulemin. The three stars went to Boychuk, Okposo, and Staal, while Nielsen and Leddy get the honorable mentions.

Up in Ottawa, the Senators host the Dallas Stars. Kari Lehtonen and Andrew Hammond are in the blue paint. Ottawa got going with a Zack Smith goal in the second period, his eighteenth of the season, helped along by Mark Stone and Jena-Gabriel Pageau. Dallas tied it with a Jason Spezza power play goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, powered by Kris Russell and Jamie Benn. The Stars took the lead in the third period with an Antoine Roussel goal, his eleventh of the campaign, assisted by Ales Hemsky and Alex Goligoski. The final held at 2-1, with the three stars being Roussel, Lehtonen (23 for 24 in saves), and Spezza.

Westward to Winnipeg, where the Jets welcome the Edmonton Oilers. Cam Talbot and Ondrej Pavelec are the unimpressive goalies. Edmonton dented the scoreboard with a second period Patrick Maroon goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Taylor Hall and Leon Draisaitl. Winnipeg tied it on a Mark Scheifele goal, his twenty-first of the year, made possible by Blake Wheeler and Tyler Myers. The Oilers retook the lead with a Lauri Korpikoski goal, his eighth of the season, passed from Andrej Sekera and Adam Clendening. The final stood at 2-1, with the three stars going to Talbot (39 for 40 in saves), Korpikoski, and Maroon.

Finally, the Minnesota Wild bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Devan Dubnyk guard the cages. St. Louis started in the first period with a Jori Lehtera goal, his eighth of the season, going in unassisted. The Blues added on with a Ryan Reaves goal, his third of the year, coming off of Kyle Brodziak and Jay Bouwmeester. St. Louis extended the lead in the second period as Patrik Berglund scored his sixth of the season, thanks to David Backes. Darcy Kuemper relieved Dubnyk in goal. Minnesota got on the board in the third period with a Ryan Suter goal, his eighth of the year, courtesy of Zach Parise. The Wild pulled closer with a Matt Dumba goal, his tenth of the season, with a lone helper by Charlie Coyle. The Blues iced it at 4-2 with a Robby Fabbri empty net goal, his sixteenth of the year, set up by Kevin Shattenkirk. The three stars went to Berglund, Allen (30 for 32 in saves), and Lehtera.
