KHL 2016/17 - Day 69

Three games on today, beginning with...

Salavat Yulaev Ufa hosting Sibir Novosibirsk. Alexei Krasikov and Niklas Svedberg are in the creases. Ufa led off in the first period with a Zakhar Arzamastsev goal, via Kirill Kaprizov and Denis Bodrov. Salavat Yulaev added on with an Igor Makarov goal, coming off of Enver Lisin. Ufa extended the lead in the second period as Dmitry Chernykh scored, thanks to Stepan Khripunov. Salavat Yulaev padded the lead with a Linus Omark goal, helped along by Sami Lepisto. Ufa kept going with another Arzamastsev goal, made possible by Bodrov and Maxim Mayorov. Danny Taylor replaced Krasikov. Salavat Yulaev continued in the third period on Anton Lazarev goal, courtesy of Evgeny Korotkov and Mayorov. The game ended at 6-0, with the three stars being Arzamastsev, Bodrov, and Mayorov.

Over in Chelyabinsk, Traktor welcomes Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Andrei Kareyev and Pavel Francouz are the mediocre goalies. Chelyabinsk began in the first period with a Dmitry Pestunov power play goal, powered by Paul Szczechura and Alexei Petrov. Traktor added on with a Yury Petrov goal, passed from Maxim Yakutsenya and Alexander Pankov on the power play. This held up for a 2-0 win, with the three stars given to Francouz (21 save shutout), Petunov, and Yury Petrov.

Finally, in Podolsk, Vityaz brings in Dinamo Minsk. Ben Scrivens and Harri Sateri draw the starts in goal. Podolsk struck first in the first period with an Alexei Makeyev goal, coming off of Alexander Nikulin and Maxim Afinogenov. Vityaz added on with a Makeyev power play goal, powered by Nikulin and Afinogenov. Minsk got one back with a Rob Klinkhammer power play goal, with assists provided by Alexander Materukhin and Matt Ellison. Dinamo tied it on an Andrei Stas goal, helped along by Charles Linglet and Evgeny Lisovets. Podolsk pulled back ahead with an Alexei Kopeikin goal, assisted by Jakub Jerabek on the power play. Vityaz extended the lead as Mario Kempe scored, thanks to Kopeikin and Jerabek. Minsk answered with an Ellison goal, courtesy of Klinkhammer and Sergei Kostitsyn. Podolsk replied with a Jerabek goal, with helpers from Dmitry Shitikov and Miro Aaltonen. Mikhail Karnaukhov replaced Scrivens in goal. Vityaz padded the lead with an Afinogenov goal in the third period, fueled by Alexei Semenov and Roman Horak. Dinamo countered with an Ilya Shinkevich goal, guided in by Stas and Linglet. Minsk got closer with another Shinkevich goal, made possible by Andrei Stepanov and Marc-Andre Gragnani. Podolsk pulled away on a Jerabek power play goal, passed from Aaltonen and Kopeikin. Vityaz struck again on a power play goal by Aaltonen, with a lone assist by Jerabek, who got a sock trick. Dinamo got one back on a Materukhin goal, via Lisovets. Podolsk iced it on an unassisted Yury Koksharov empty net goal, resulting in the wild 9-6 final. The three stars went to Jerabek, Afinogenov, and Aaltonen, while Kopeikin, Makeyev, Shinkevich, Ellison, Klinkhammer, Stas, Materukhin, Lisovets, and Linglet receive the honorable mentions.
