Metallurg Mangitogorsk welcoming Dynamo Moscow. Alexander Zalivin and Ilya Samsonov receive the starting nods in goal. Magnitogorsk led off in the first period with an unassisted Viktor Antipin goal. Metallurg added on with a Danis Zaripov power play goal, powered by Sergei Mozyakin and Jan Kovar. Magnitogorsk extended the lead in the second period as Tomas Filippi scored an unassisted goal. Metallurg padded the lead on a Mozyakin power play goal, assisted by Chris Lee and Zaripov. Magnitogorsk continued in the third period with a Kovar power play goal, made possible by Lee and Mozyakin. The three stars of the 5-0 game were Mozyakin, Zaripov, and Kovar, while Lee and Samsonov (35 save shutout) get the honorable mentions.
The other games sees SKA St. Petersburg bring in CSKA Moscow. Ilya Sorokin and Igor Shestyorkin are the creases. St. Petersburg began with a Pavel Datsyuk power play goal in the first period, powered by Ilya Kovalchuk and the goalie Shestyorkin. SKA added on with a Nikita Gusev goal, with a lone assist by Vadim Shipachyov. Moscow got on the board with a Sergei Andronov goal, passed from Alexander Popov. CSKA tied it on a Greg Scott goal, coming off of Dmitry Kugryshev and Mikhail Naumenkov. Moscow took the lead on another Scott goal, via Semyon Koshelev. St. Petersburg retied it in the second period on a Maxim Chudinov power play goal, assisted by Evgeny Dadonov and Shipachyov. SKA took the lead with a Dinar Khafizullin goal, helped along by Datsyuk and Vyacheslav Voynov. St. Petersburg extended the lead as Dadonov scored, thanks to Shipachyov, who got a sock trick, and Gusev. SKA iced it at 6-3 with a Kovalchuk empty net goal, set up by Shestyorkin. The three stars went to Shipachyov, Dadonov, and Datsyuk, while Gusev, Shestyorkin (36 for 39 in saves, two assists), Scott, and Kovalchuk get the honorable mentions.
