KHL 2016/17 - Day 144

Nine games on for the KHL today, beginning with...

Lada Togliatti hosting Sibir Novosibirsk. Danny Taylor and Ilya Ezhov man the nets. Novosibirsk got going in the second period with a Maxim Shalunov goal, passed from Joonas Kemppainen and Stepan Sannikov. Sibir added on with an Maxim Ignatovich goal, assisted by Yegor Milovzorov on the power play. Togliatti got on the board with an Anton Shenfeld power play goal, powered by Andrei Ivanov. Novosibirsk iced it at 3-1 with a Milovzorov empty net goal, set up by Zach Boychuk. The three stars went to Milovzorov, Taylor (25 for 26 in saves), and Ignatovich.

Down in Nizhnekamsk, Neftekhimik welcomes Avangard Omsk. Dominik Furch and Andrei Kareyev are the goalies. Nizhnekamsk opened in the first period with a Dmitry Ogurtsov goal, assisted by Bogdan Yakimov and Gennady Stolyarov. Neftekhimik added on with an Igor Polygalov power play goal, powered by Kirill Lyamin. Nizhnekamsk extended the lead as Nikita Kvartalnov scored, thanks to Marat Khairullin. Neftekhimik padded the lead with a second period goal by Ildar Shiksatdarov, courtesy of Yakimov and Pavel Zdunov. The final held at 4-0, with the three stars going to Kareyev (28 save shutout), Yakimov, and Ogurtsov.

In Moscow, Dynamo brings in Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Vasily Koshechkin and Alexander Lazushin play goal. Moscow started in the first period with an Artyom Podshendyalov goal, coming off of Denis Kokarev and Konstantin Gorovikov. Magnitogorsk tied it on a Sergei Mozyakin goal, guided in by Denis Kazionov and Jan Kovar. Metallurg took the lead in the third period with a Mozyakin goal, via Chris Lee and Alexei Bereglazov. This made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars given to Mozyakin, Koshechkin (35 for 36 in saves), and Lazushin (39 for 41 in saves).

South to Sochi, where the Leopards host CSKA Moscow. Viktor Fasth and Konstantin Barulin protect the nets. Moscow began in the first period with a Geoff Platt power play goal, powered by Greg Scott and Igor Ozhiganov. CSKA iced it at 2-0 in the third period with a Platt goal, with a lone assist by Mikhail Naumenkov. The three stars were awarded to Platt, Fasth (23 save shutout), and Barulin (41 for 43 in saves).

Back north, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl welcomes Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Niklas Svedberg and Alexei Murygin are the masked men. Yaroslavl struck first in the first period with an Alexander Kadeikin goal, passed from Dmitry Lugin and the goalie Murygin. Ufa tied it on an Anton Lazarev goal, fueled by Alexander Nesterov and Evgeny Korotkov. Lokomotiv took the lead back in the second period with a Maxime Talbot power play goal, powered by Brandon Kozun and Denis Osipov. Salavat Yulaev retied it on a Linus Omark power play goal, with assists provided by Sami Lepisto and Alexander Loginov. Yaroslavl took the lead again with an Ilya Lyubushkin goal, assisted by Pavel Kraskovsky and Alexander Polunin. Lokomotiv added on with a Pavel Koledov power play goal, helped along by Talbot and Osipov. Ufa replied with a Zakhar Arzamastsev goal, made possible by Lazarev and Korotkov. Yaroslavl iced it at 5-3 with an Andrei Loktionov goal, via Lugin and Kadeikin. The three stars went to Talbot, Kadeikin, and Lazarev, while Lugin, Korotkov, and Osipov get the honorable mentions.

Back in Moscow, Spartak brings in Severstal Cherepovets. Jakub Kovar and Markus Svensson are set to start in goal. Moscow led off in the first period with a Tim Stapleton goal, via Ilya Klyauzov and Ilya Pavlyukov. Cherepovets tied it on a Sergei Monakhov goal in the second period, made possible by the goalie Kovar and Alexei Ugarov. Spartak took the lead in the third period with a power play goal by Lukas Radil, powered by Konstantin Glazachev and Matthew Gilroy. Severstal tied it again with a Yury Trubachyov goal, helped along by Dmitry Kagarlitsky and Daniil Vovchenko. Moscow won 3-2 in overtime with an Igor Mirnov goal, coming off of Gilroy. The three stars were Gilroy, Mirnov, and Radil.

Down in Podolsk, Vityaz hosts Traktor Chelyabinsk. Pavel Francouz and Igor Saprykin are in the blue paint. Podolsk dented the scoreboard in the second period with an Alexei Kopeikin power play goal, going in unassisted. Vityaz added on in the third period with an Alexei Makeyev goal, assisted by Artyom Chernov and Roman Horak. Chelyabinsk got on the board with an unassisted Yury Petrov goal. Podolsk iced it at 3-1 with an empty net goal by Maxim Afinogenov, set up by Horak and Makeyev. The three stars belonged to Makeyev, Horak, and Saprykin (38 for 39 in saves).

Backtracking to Nizhny Novgorod, where Torpedo welcomes SKA St. Petersburg. Mikko Koskinen and Mikhail Biryukov are between the pipes. St. Petersburg was first to score in the first period with an Ilya Kovalchuk goal, passed from Dinar Khafizullin. Nizhny Novgorod tied it on a Nikolai Zherdev goal in the second period, assisted by Carter Ashton and Evgeny Grachyov. SKA took the lead with an Ilya Kablukov goal, coming off of Yegor Rykov and Sergei Shirokov. Torpedo tied it on a Vladimir Galuzin goal, courtesy of Kirill Urakov and Maxim Osipov in the third period. Nizhny Novgorod took the lead with a John Norman goal, made possible by Urakov. Torpedo iced it at 4-2 with a Vyacheslav Kulyomin empty net goal, set up by Grigory Zheldakov. The three stars went to Urakov, Norman, and Biryukov (26 for 28 in saves).

Finally, Ak Bars Kazan brings in Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Vladislav Podyapolsky and Stanislav Galimov receive the starting nods in goal. Kazan drew first blood in the first period with an Artyom Lukoyanov goal, guided in by Vladimir Tkachyov. Ak Bars added on in the second period with a Stepan Zakharchuk goal, passed from Alexander Svitov. Kazan extended the lead as Jiri Sekac scored a power play goal, thanks to Michal Jordan and Tkachyov. Ak Bars padded the lead with a Jordan goal, with a lone assist by Svitov. Kazan continued in the third period with an Anton Glinkin goal, helped along by Damir Musin. Ak Bars struck again with a Dmitry Arkhipov goal, made possible by Vasily Tokranov. Novokuznetsk got on the board with a Konstantin Parkhomenko goal, via Ignat Zemchenko. The final stood at 6-1, with the three stars going to Jordan, Svitov, and Tkachyov.
