NHL 2017-18 Day 67

Just four games tonight, beginning with...

The Chicago Blackhawks hosting the Arizona Coyotes. Scott Wedgewood and Corey Crawford are in goal. Chicago dented the scoreboard in the third period with a Tommy Wingels goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by John Hayden and Jordan Oesterle. Arizona tied it on an Anthony Duclair goal, his seventh of the year, via Alex Goligoski and Jakob Chychrun. The Blackhawks took the lead back with an Artem Anisimov goal, his thirteenth of the season, assisted by Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook. Chicago added on with a Nick Schmaltz goal, his fifth of the year, with a lone assist by Kane. The final stood at 3-1, with the three stars going to Anisimov, Crawford (31 for 32 in saves), and Kane.

Down in St. Louis, the Blues welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Robin Lehner and Jake Allen are the masked men. St. Louis opened in the first period with a Brayden Schenn goal, his sixteenth of the season, coming off of Joel Edmundson and Alexander Steen. The Blues added on in the second period with a Paul Stastny goal, his seventh of the year, guided in by Vladimir Tarasenko and Edmundson. Buffalo got on the board with an Evan Rodrigues power play goal, powered by Sam Reinhart and Evander Kane. The Sabres tied it on a Rodrigues goal, his second of the game, helped along by Ryan O'Reilly and Marco Scandella. St. Louis won 3-2 in overtime with a Tarasenko goal, his fourteenth of the campaign, with helpers from Colton Parayko and Stastny. The three stars were handed to Tarasenko, Rodrigues, and Stastny, while Edmundson gets an honorable mention.

Up in Toronto, the Maple Leafs bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Laurent Brossoit and Curtis McElhinney are the backups in goal. Toronto started in the first period with a Zach Hyman goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Jake Gardiner and William Nylander. This first minute goal stood for a 1-0 win in the end, with McElhinney (41 save shutout), Hyman, and Brossoit (22 for 23 in saves) receiving the three stars.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks host the Minnesota Wild. Alex Stalock faces his former team and Martin Jones in goal. Minnesota was first to score in the first period with a Ryan Murphy power play goal, powered by Jason Zucker and Eric Staal. The Wild added on with a Staal goal, his eleventh of the season, via Ryan Suter and Mikael Granlund. Minnesota extended the lead in the second period as Staal scored his second of the game and twelfth of the year, thanks to Murphy and Granlund. San Jose got on the board with a Brent Burns power play goal, his third of the season, fueled by Joe Thornton and Tomas Hertl. The Sharks got closer in the third period with a Burns power play goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, with a lone helper from Joe Pavelski. San Jose tied it on a Hertl goal, his seventh of the season, guided in by Dylan DeMelo and Tim Heed. The Wild won 4-3 in overtime with an unassisted Nino Niederreiter goal, his tenth of the year. The three stars went to Staal, Murphy, and Burns, while Granlund and Hertl get the honorable mentions.
