MLS 2018 Week 27 Midweek

Four games on at midweek in MLS, beginning with...

The New York Red Bulls hosting the Houston Dynamo. Chris Seitz is mismatched with Luis Robles in goal. New York got going in the fifty-fifth minute with a Brian White goal, passed from Alex Muyl. Houston's Leonardo took a yellow card for an eighty-ninth minute foul. The final held at 1-0, with Robles (three-save clean sheet) earning man of the match honors.

Down in DC, United welcomes the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Bill Hamid are the strong goalies. Jack Elliott of Philadelphia took a yellow card for a twenty-seventh minute foul. The Union opened in the twenty-ninth minute on a C.J. Sapong goal. Philadelphia's Borek Dockal had a yellow card in the fifty-seventh minute for a foul. The Union added on in the sixty-first minute with a Fabrice-Jean Picault goal, assisted by Sapong and Dockal. Steve Birnbaum of DC received a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The Union held on for a 2-0 win, with Sapong named man of the match.

Out west, the San Jose Earthquakes bring in FC Dallas. Jimmy Maurer and Andrew Tarbell play in goal. Dallas started in the eighth minute with a Maximiliano Urruti goal. San Jose tied it in the fifteenth minute with a Valeri Qazaishvili goal. The Earthquakes took the lead with a Qazaishvili goal in the forty-second minute. Dallas retied it in the fifty-first minute with a Santiago Mosquera goal, coming off of Urruti and Michael Barrios. San Jose pulled ahead again with a Magnus Eriksson goal, helped along by Chris Wondolowski in the fifty-fourth minute. Dallas tied it again on a Dominique Badji goal, made possible by Reggie Cannon and Urruti. The Earthquakes stormed ahead in the sixty-second minute on a Wondolowski goal, passed from Qazaishvili. This made it 4-3, the eventual final, with the man of the match being Qazaishvili.

Finally, the Portland Timbers host Toronto FC. Clint Irwin and Jeff Attinella draw the starts in goal. Marco Delgado of Toronto had a yellow card for a thirty-second minute foul. Portland dented the scoreboard in the sixty-fourth minute with a Diego Chara goal, guided in by Sebastian Blanco and Zarek Valentin. The Timbers added on in the eighty-third minute with a David Guzman goal. Portland's Guzman had a yellow card for an eighty-fifth minute foul. The final remained at 2-0, with the man of the match being Chara.
