NWSL 2018 Week 20

Four games fill the schedule this weekend, beginning on Friday with...

The Chicago Red Stars hosting the North Carolina Courage. Katelyn Rowland and Alyssa Naeher start in goal. North Carolina started in the twenty-second minute with a Debinha goal, set up by Jessica McDonald and Crystal Dunn. Chicago tied it in the sixty-fourth minute with a Sam Kerr goal, coming off of Vanessa DiBernardo and Danielle Colaprico. Yuki Nagasato of the Red Stars took a yellow card for a seventy-second minute foul. In the eighty-seventh minute, Kristen Hamilton of the Courage received a yellow card for a foul. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with the woman of the match being Abby Erceg. Also strong for the Courage were Samantha Mewis, Debinha, and McDonald, while the Red Stars' best were Julie Ertz, DiBernardo, Alyssa Mautz, and Kerr.

On Saturday, the Utah Royals FC welcome the Seattle Reign FC. Lydia Williams and Abby Smith protect the nets. Seattle got going in the forty-eighth minute with a Jess Fishlock goal on recycled service from Megan Oyster. Fishlock took a yellow card for the Reign in the seventy-fourth minute for a foul. Becca Moros of Utah had a yellow card for dissent in the ninetieth minute. The final remained at 1-0, with the woman of the match being Fishlock. Also good for the Reign were Williams (three-save clean sheet), Oyster, Lauren Barnes, Morgan Andrews, and Megan Rapinoe. The Royals' best were Rachel Corsie, Becky Sauerbrunn, Christen Press, and Taylor Lytle. 

Over in New Jersey, Sky Blue FC bring in the Houston Dash. Jane Campbell and Kailen Sheridan are the young keepers. Houston opened in the seventh minute with a Rachel Daly goal, set up by Kealia Ohai. Sky Blue got on the board with a Madison Tiernan goal in the sixty-fourth minute after a deflection from Savannah McCaskill's cross. The Dash retook the lead in the seventy-third minute with a Daly penalty kick goal after a handball by Domi Richardson of Sky Blue. This led to the 2-1 final score, with Daly named woman of the match. Also leading the way for the Dash were Taylor Comeau, Clare Polkinghorne, Ohai, and Sofia Huerta, while Sky Blue's best were Amanda Frisbie, Katie Johnson, McCaskill, and Tiernan.

Finally, the Orlando Pride host the Portland Thorns FC. Adrianna Franch and Ashlyn Harris are the keepers. Portland's Christine Sinclair received a yellow card for a foul in the twenty-seventh minute. The Thorns dented the scoreboard in the forty-seventh minute on a Lindsey Horan goal, made possible by Tobin Heath. Portland added on in the fifty-third minute with a Hayley Raso goal, passed from Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic. Orlando's Marta received a yellow card for a foul in the seventy-third minute. The Thorns won 2-0, with Franch's six-save clean sheet and excellent keeping making her the woman of the match. Also strong for Portland were Emily Menges, Horan, Raso, and Heath. The Pride's best efforts came from Emily van Egmond, Dani Weatherholt, and Marta.
