Hockey is back, at least partially, after the All-Star break. We have two games today, beginning with...
The Philadelphia Flyers welcoming the Winnipeg Jets. Laurent Brossoit and Carter Hart are the young goalies. Philadelphia got going in the second period with a Phil Varone goal, his second of the season, assisted by Michael Raffl and Christian Folin. Winnipeg tied it on a Jack Roslovic power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Jacob Trouba and Bryan Little. The Flyers retook the lead on a Travis Konecny goal, his thirteenth of the season, guided in by Andrew MacDonald. Philadelphia added on in the third period with a James van Riemsdyk goal, his thirteenth of the year, fueled by Konecny. This made it 3-1, the final, with the three stars given to Konecny, Hart (31 for 32 in saves), and van Riemsdyk.
Across Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Penguins bring in the New Jersey Devils. Keith Kinkaid and Matt Murray are the alliterative goalies. New Jersey started in the first period with a Travis Zajac goal, his twelfth of the season, coming off of Miles Wood and Steven Santini. The Devils added on with a Damon Severson goal, his seventh of the year, via Blake Coleman and Zajac. New Jersey extended the lead in the second period as Brian Boyle scored his thirteenth of the season shorthanded, set up by Pavel Zacha. Pittsburgh got on the board with a Derick Brassard goal, his ninth of the year, courtesy of Marcus Pettersson and Juuso Riikola. The Devils replied on a Coleman goal, his eighteenth of the season, passed from Zajac and Will Butcher. New Jersey padded the lead in the third period with a Kyle Palmieri power play goal, his twenty-third of the year, powered by Zajac, who got a sock trick, and Marcus Johansson. The Penguins replied with a Matt Cullen goal, his fifth of the season, a shorthanded goal going in unassisted. The Devils countered with a Zacha power play goal, his eighth of the year, with a lone assist by Andy Greene. Pittsburgh pulled back on a Bryan Rust goal, his twelfth of the campaign, helped along by Evgeni Malkin and Brian Dumoulin. This only made it 6-3, with the three stars going to Zajac, Coleman, and Zacha.
