Three games on tonight in the second day back from the break. We begin with...
The Boston Bruins hosting the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Jaroslav Halak are the masked men. Boston started in the first period with a Patrice Bergeron goal, his fifteenth of the season, guided in by Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak. Winnipeg tied it on a Josh Morrissey power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Mark Scheifele. The Bruins retook the lead on a Pastrnak power play goal, his twenty-eighth of the season, with assists provided by Marchand and Torey Krug. The Jets retied it in the third period with a Kyle Connor goal, his twentieth of the year, passed from Tyler Myers and Ben Chiarot. Winnipeg pulled ahead on a Connor goal, his second of the game and twenty-first of the season, made possible by Scheifele and Blake Wheeler. Boston tied it again with a Bergeron goal, his second of the game and sixteenth of the year, fueled by Marchand, who got a sock trick, and Pastrnak. The tie went to a shootout, where Connor's lone tally gave the Jets a 4-3 win. The three stars were Connor, Bergeron, and Pastrnak, while Marchand and Scheifele get the honorable mentions.
In Columbus, the Blue Jackets welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Carter Hutton and Sergei Bobrovsky receive the starts nods in goal. Buffalo opened in the first period with an Evan Rodrigues goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Casey Mittelstadt and Conor Sheary. Columbus tied it on a Pierre-Luc Dubois goal, his eighteenth of the year, via Ryan Murray and Cam Atkinson. The Sabres retook the lead with a Sam Reinhart goal, his twelfth of the season, courtesy of Rasmus Ristolainen and Jake McCabe. Buffalo added on with a Tage Thompson goal, his seventh of the year, passed from Rasmus Dahlin and Zach Bogosian. The Blue Jackets got one back in the second period with a Nick Foligno power play goal, his thirteenth of the season, powered by Artemi Panarin and Dubois. The Sabres responded with a Jeff Skinner goal, his thirty-first of the year, fueled by Jack Eichel and Dahlin. Columbus answered on a Brandon Dubinsky goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Scott Harrington and Josh Anderson. The Blue Jackets tied it as Atkinson scored his twenty-eighth of the year, thanks to Murray and Panarin. Buffalo restored a lead in the third period with a Sheary goal, his eighth of the season, with helpers from Rodrigues and Bogosian. This stood for a 5-4 win, with the three stars given to Sheary, Rodrigues, and Dubois, while Atkinson, Panarin, Murray, Bogosian, and Dahlin get the honorable mentions.
Finally, the New York Rangers bring in the Philadelphia Flyers. Anthony Stolarz and Alexandar Georgiev are the poor backups in goal. Philadelphia struck first in the first period with an Oskar Lindblom goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek. This was the only goal of a 1-0 Flyers win, with the three stars awarded to Stolarz (38 save shutout), Lindblom, and Georgiev (18 for 19 in saves).
