MLS Midweek - September 11, 2019

There's a handful of midweek games this week, beginning with...

New York City FC hosting Toronto FC. Quentin Westberg and Sean Johnson play in goal. New York City led off in the 6th minute with an Alexandru Mitrita goal. The Pigeons saw yellow cards for an Alexander Ring foul in the 23rd minute and dissent by Anton Tinnerholm in the 40th minute. Toronto tied it in the 40th minute with an Alejandro Pozuelo penalty kick goal. New York City took yellow cards for dissent by the keeper Johnson in the 77th minute and a foul by Valentin Castellanos in the 84th minute. The Reds picked up yellow cards for fouls by Nicolas Benezet in the 85th minute and Chris Mavinga in stoppage time. The final was 1-1, with the man of the match being Mitrita.

Westward to Colorado, where the Rapids welcome the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bingham and Clint Irwin are the veterans in goal. Jorgen Skjelvik of Los Angeles took a yellow card for a 38th minute foul. Daniel Steres of the Galaxy had a yellow card for a 79th minute foul. Colorado got going in the 79th minute on a Cole Bassett goal, set up by Jack Price. Los Angeles retied it in the 82nd minute with a Giancarlo Gonzalez goal, passed from Cristian Pavon. The Rapids regained the lead in the 85th minute with a Nicolas Mezquida penalty kick goal. In the 89th minute, Colorado's Price saw a yellow card for time wasting. In stoppage time, the Galaxy's Pavon and the Rapids' Andre Shinyashiki each received yellow cards for fouls. The final was 2-1, and in a losing effort, Bingham's 10-for-12 save performance was worthy of man of the match honors.

Backtracking to Houston, where the Dynamo bring in Minnesota United FC. Vito Mannone and Joe Willis protect the nets. Chase Gasper of Minnesota took a yellow card for a 26th minute foul. Houston began in the 37th minute with a Mauro Manotas goal, assisted by DaMarcus Beasley. The Dynamo added on with a Christian Ramirez goal in the 44th minute, helped along by Manotas. Houston's Memo Rodriguez received a yellow card for an 82nd minute foul. The final held at 2-0, with Ramirez selected as man of the match.

Finally, Real Salt Lake hosts the San Jose Earthquakes. Daniel Vega is mismatched with Nick Rimando in goal. Judson of San Jose had a yellow card for a 28th minute foul. Salt Lake's Kyle Beckerman picked up a yellow card for a 31st minute foul. Real saw a yellow card for a Brooks Lennon foul in the 60th minute. Salt Lake dented the scoreboard in the 75th minute, coming off of Lennon. The Earthquakes took yellow cards for fouls by Florian Jungwirth and Anibal Godoy in stoppage time. The final was 1-0, with Kreilach as the man of the match.
