NHL 2019-20 - Day 129

Just four games on this Friday, beginning with...

The Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Carey Price and Tristan Jarry are in goal. Pittsburgh got going in the second period with a Kris Letang power play goal, his thirteenth of the season, powered by Sidney Crosby and Patric Hornqvist. The Penguins added on with a Jason Zucker goal, his fifteenth of the year, assisted by Crosby and Dominik Simon. Montreal got on the board with a Tomas Tatar power play goal, his twenty-first of the season, with assists provided by Victor Mete and Nick Suzuki. Pittsburgh replied on a Zucker goal, his second of the game and sixteenth of the year, courtesy of Marcus Pettersson and Crosby. The Penguins iced it at 4-1 with an empty net goal by Zach Aston-Reese, his sixth of the campaign, set up by Brandon Tanev and Teddy Blueger. The three stars were Zucker, Crosby, and Jarry (34 for 35 in saves).

Over in Columbus, the Blue Jackets welcome the New York Rangers. Alexandar Georgiev and Elvis Merzlikins are the lesser-known goalies. New York opened in the first period with a Pavel Buchnevich goal, his thirteenth of the season, assisted by Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider. Columbus tied it on an Oliver Bjorkstrand goal, his nineteenth of the year, via Gustav Nyquist and Scott Harrington. The Rangers took the lead on a Kreider goal, his twenty-third of the season, fueled by Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox. New York added on with a Ryan Strome empty net goal, his fourteenth of the year, set up by Phillip Di Giuseppe and Artemi Panarin. The three stars of the 3-1 game were Kreider, Georgiev (36 for 37 in saves), and Buchnevich.

Down in Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes bring in the New Jersey Devils. Louis Domingue is mismatched with Petr Mrazek in goal. Carolina led off in the first period with a Nino Niederreiter goal, his eighth of the season, fueled by Haydn Fleury and Martin Necas. New Jersey tied it on a Mirco Mueller goal, his second of the year, via Travis Zajac and Nikita Gusev. The Hurricanes retook the lead with a Warren Foegele goal, his eleventh of the season, made possible by Brett Pesce and Jordan Staal. Carolina added on in the second period with an Andrei Svechnikov goal, his twenty-third of the year, passed from Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho. The Hurricanes extended the lead in the third period as Necas scored his fifteenth of the season, going in unassisted. Carolina padded the lead on a Joel Edmundson goal, his fifth of the year, coming off of Niederreiter and Pesce. The Devils got one back with a Joey Anderson goal, helped along by Nick Merkley. The final stood at 5-2, with the three stars being Necas, Niederreiter, and Pesce.

Finally, the Winnipeg Jets host the San Jose Sharks. Aaron Dell and Connor Hellebuyck are the masked men. San Jose began in the first period with a Marcus Sorensen goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Alexander True and Dylan Gambrell. Winnipeg tied it with a Kyle Connor power play goal, his twenty-ninth of the year, powered by Blake Wheeler and Neal Pionk in the second period. The Jets took the lead on a Wheeler goal, his eighteenth of the season, assisted by Andrew Copp and Nikolaj Ehlers. The Sharks tied it in the third period with a Melker Karlsson goal, his fourth of the year, helped along by Joel Kellman and Stefan Noesen. San Jose pulled ahead on a Timo Meier goal, his nineteenth of the season, via Kevin Labanc and Brent Burns. The final remained at 3-2, with the three stars given to Wheeler, Meier, and Karlsson.
