NHL 2022-23 - Day 70

There's eight games on this Monday, beginning with...

The Boston Bruins hosting the Florida Panthers. Spencer Knight and Linus Ullmark man the nets. Boston led off in the first period with a Connor Clifton goal, his third of the season, via Taylor Hall. The Bruins added on with a Brandon Carlo goal, fueled by Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. Boston extended the lead as Charlie Coyle scored his ninth of the year, thanks to Trent Frederic and Carlo. The Bruins padded the lead in the second period with a David Pastrnak power play goal, his twenty-first of the season, powered by Bergeron and Marchand. Florida got on the board with a Sam Reinhart goal, his twelfth of the year, courtesy of Matt Kiersted and Carter Verhaeghe. The Panthers got closer with an Eric Staal goal, his second of the season, coming off of Gustav Forsling and Brandon Montour. Florida pulled closer with a Verhaeghe goal, his seventeenth of the year, guided in by Reinhart and Eetu Luostarinen. Boston shot back with David Krejci goal, his tenth of the season, with helpers from Hampus Lindholm and Hall. The Bruins continued with a Bergeron goal in the third period, his eleventh of the year, made possible by Clifton. Boston finished it at 7-3 with a Bergeron power play goal, his twelfth of the campaign, with assists provided by Lindholm and Marchand. The three stars belonged to Bergeron, Marchand, and Carlo, while Clifton, Lindholm, Hall, Verhaeghe, and Reinhart get the honorable mentions.

Over in DC, the Washington Capitals welcome the Detroit Red Wings. Ville Husso and Charlie Lindgren are set to start in goal. Detroit began in the first period with a David Perron goal, his tenth of the season, made possible by Michael Rasmussen and Dylan Larkin. The Red Wings added on with an Oskar Sundqvist power play goal, his fifth of the year, powered by Jonatan Berggren and Joe Veleno. Washington got on the board in the second period with a Nic Dowd goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Alex Ovechkin and Erik Gustafsson. The Capitals tied it on another Dowd goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, guided in by Nick Jensen and Nicolas Aube-Kubel. Detroit retook the lead in the third period with a Lucas Raymond goal, his eighth of the season, helped along by Andrew Copp and Olli Maatta. Washington tied it again with a Gustafsson goal, his fourth of the year, via Lars Eller and Aube-Kubel. The Capitals won 4-3 in overtime with a Dmitry Orlov goal, his second of the campaign, passed from Marcus Johansson and Dowd. The three stars were Dowd, Gustafsson, and Aube-Kubel.

Next up, the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Dallas Stars. Jake Oettinger faces a lesser foe in Daniil Tarasov in goal. Dallas got going in the second period with a Wyatt Johnston goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Ryan Suter and Jamie Benn. The Stars added on in the third period with a Jason Robertson empty net goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, going in unassisted. Columbus got on the board with a Kent Johnson goal, his seventh of the campaign, helped along by Jack Roslovic and Gustav Nyquist. The final was 2-1, with the three stars going to Oettinger (27 for 28 in saves), Johnston, and Robertson.

Down in Nashville, the Predators bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Jack Campbell and Juuse Saros guard the cages. Nashville struck first in the first period with a Mattias Ekholm goal, his second of the season, via Thomas Novak. Edmonton tied it with a Jesse Puljujarvi goal, his second of the year, passed from Darnell Nurse and the goalie Campbell. The Predators retook the lead with a Jordan Gross goal, his third of the season, assisted by Yakov Trenin and Ryan Johansen in the second period. The Oilers tied it on a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins power play goal, his sixteenth of the year, powered by Connor McDavid and Tyson Barrie. Nashville took the lead with a Matt Duchene power play goal, his eighth of the season, with assists provided by Mikael Granlund and Cody Glass. Edmonton tied it again in the third period with a Nugent-Hopkins power play goal, his second of the game and seventeenth of the year, with a helper from McDavid. The Predators won 4-3 in overtime with an Alexandre Carrier goal, his second of the campaign, coming off of Class and Nino Niederreiter. The three stars were Nugent-Hopkins, McDavid, and Glass.

Out west, the Colorado Avalanche host the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin and Alexandar Georgiev tend the twines. There was no score through overtime, with Evan Rodrigues getting the lone tally for the Avalanche for a 1-0 win in the shootout. The three stars were Georgiev (26 save shutout), Sorokin (46 save "shutout"), and Rodrigues.

To Arizona, as the Coyotes welcome the Montreal Canadiens. Sam Montembeault and Karel Vejmelka are in the blue paint. Montreal dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Cole Caufield goal, his nineteenth of the season, coming off of Josh Anderson and Kaiden Guhle. Arizona tied it with a Nick Schmaltz goal, his fifth of the year, via Clayton Keller. The Canadiens retook the lead with a Christian Dvorak goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Arber Xhekaj and Evgenii Dadonov. The Coyotes tied it again on a Matias Maccelli goal, his third of the year, passed from Lawson Crouse and Jakob Chychrun. Montreal won 3-2 in overtime with a Mike Hoffman goal, his seventh of the campaign, courtesy of Kirby Dach. The three stars were Hoffman, Dvorak, and Caufield.

Up in Vegas, the Golden Knights host the Buffalo Sabres. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Adin Hill are the goalies. Buffalo cracked the scoresheet in the second period with a Jeff Skinner goal, his sixteenth of the season, passed from Alex Tuch and Lawrence Pilut. The Sabres added on with a Tage Thompson goal, his twenty-sixth of the year, courtesy of Casey Fitzgerald. Buffalo extended the lead as Pilut scored, thanks to Kyle Okposo and Peyton Krebs. Vegas got on the board in the third period with a Chandler Stephenson goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Michael Amadio and Alec Martinez. The Golden Knights got closer with a Reilly Smith goal, his seventeenth of the year, guided in by Alex Pietrangelo and William Karlsson. The final stayed at 3-2 with the three stars given to Pilut, Thompson, and Luukkonen (41 for 43 in saves).

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Spencer Martin man the nets. St. Louis drew first blood in the second period with a Jordan Kyrou goal, his fourteenth of the season, helped along by Nick Leddy and Vladimir Tarasenko. Vancouver tied it with an Ilya Mikheyev goal, his tenth of the year, courtesy of Quinn Hughes. The Blues retook the lead on a Nathan Walker goal, via Leddy and Colton Parayko. St. Louis added on with a Robert Thomas power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Ivan Barbashev and Kyrou. The Blues extended the lead in the third period as Kyrou scored his second of the game and fifteenth of the year on the power play, thanks to Tarasenko and Torey Krug. St. Louis padded the lead when Kyrou completed his hat trick on his sixteenth of the season, with the help of Thomas and Tarasenko. The final remained at 5-1, with the three stars handed to Kyrou, Tarasenko, and Thomas, while Leddy gets an honorable mention.
