NHL 2022-23 - Day 69

Five games on this Sunday, beginning with...

The Minnesota Wild hosting the Ottawa Senators. Anton Forsberg and Filip Gustavsson are the goalies. Minnesota began in the first period with a Kirill Kaprizov goal, his nineteenth of the season, coming off of Mats Zuccarello and Sam Steel. The Wild added on in the second period with a Zuccarello goal, his fourteenth of the year, guided in by Steel and Kaprizov. Minnesota extended the lead as Jared Spurgeon scored his third of the season, thanks to Kaprizov and Marcus Foligno. Ottawa got on the board in the third period with a Mark Kastelic goal, his third of the year, made possible by Travis Hamonic and Parker Kelly. The Senators got closer with a Claude Giroux goal, his fourteenth of the season, helped along by Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson. The Wild iced it at 4-2 with a Frederick Gaudreau empty net goal, his eighth of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars were Kaprizov, Zuccarello, and Steel. 

Back east, the Carolina Hurricanes welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins. Casey DeSmith and Pyotr Kochetkov are between the pipes. Carolina got going in the second period with a Derek Stepan goal, his second of the season, via Stefan Noesen. Pittsburgh tied it with a Rickard Rakell power play goal, his thirteenth of the year, powered by Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang. The Penguins took the lead in the third period with a Brock McGinn goal, his ninth of the season, passed from Kasperi Kapanen. The Hurricanes tied it again with a Brady Skjei goal, his sixth of the year, courtesy of Stepan and Jordan Staal. Carolina took the lead with a Staal goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by Jesper Fast and Skjei. The final held at 3-2, with the three stars going to Staal, Skjei, and Stepan. 

West again to Chicago, as the Blackhawks host the New York Rangers. Igor Shesterkin and Arvid Soderblom are set to start in goal. New York led off in the first period with a Filip Chytil goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Alexis Lafreniere and Adam Fox. The Rangers added on with an Artemi Panarin goal, his eighth of the year, passed from Fox and Vincent Trocheck. New York extended the lead as Kaapo Kakko scored his eighth of the season, thanks to Chytil and Lafreniere. Chicago got on the board in the second period with an unassisted Philipp Kurashev goal, his fourth of the year. The Rangers fired back on a Jacob Trouba goal, his second of the season, made possible by Mika Zibanejad and Panarin. New York padded the lead on a Trocheck power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Fox and Zibanejad. The Rangers continued in the third period with a Vitali Kravtsov goal, his second of the campaign, helped along by Panarin and Ryan Lindgren. New York finished it at 7-1 with a Jonny Brodzinski goal, via Braden Schneider and Kakko. The three stars were Panarin, Fox, and Trocheck, while Kakko, Lafreniere, and Zibanejad get the honorable mentions. 

Out in Seattle, the Kraken bring in the Winnipeg Jets. David Rittich and Philipp Grubauer are the masked men. Winnipeg opened in the first period with a Mark Scheifele power play goal, his nineteenth of the season, powered by Josh Morrissey and Pierre-Luc Dubois. Seattle tied it in the second period with a Jordan Eberle goal, his eighth of the year, courtesy of Adam Larsson and Vince Dunn. The Jets retook the lead on a Dubois power play goal, his fifteenth of the season, with assists provided by Kyle Connor and Morrissey. The Kraken tied it on a Ryan Donato goal in the third period, his sixth of the year, guided in by Yanni Gourde and Andre Burakovsky. Seattle pulled ahead on a Jared McCann goal, his fourteenth of the campaign, fueled by Matty Beniers and Justin Schultz. The final held at 3-2, with the three stars given to Dubois, McCann, and Morrissey. 

Finally, the San Jose Sharks host the Calgary Flames. Jacob Markstrom and Kaapo Kahkonen are in the blue paint. Calgary started in the first period with an unassisted Tyler Toffoli goal, his eleventh of the season. San Jose tied it on a Timo Meier power play goal, his sixteenth of the year, powered by Erik Karlsson and Tomas Hertl. The Flames retook the lead with a Milan Lucic goal, coming off of Elias Lindholm and Trevor Lewis in the second period. Calgary added on in the third period with a Lindholm power play goal, his tenth of the season, with assists provided by Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri. The Flames extended the lead as Lindholm scored his second of the game and eleventh of the year, thanks to Rasmus Andersson and Noah Hanifin. Calgary padded the lead on a Dillon Dube goal, his sixth of the season, with helpers from Kadri and Toffoli. The Sharks got one back with a Hertl power play goal, his eleventh of the year, assisted by Logan Couture and Karlsson. The final stood at 5-2, with the three stars being Lindholm, Toffoli, and Hertl, while Kadri and Karlsson get the honorable mentions.
