KHL Day 17 2013-2014

There are eight games on today, beginning in...

Chelyabinsk, as Traktor hosts Amur Khabarovsk. Mika Jarvinen and Michael Garnett are in the creases. Khabarovsk started in the first period with a Dmitry Tarasov goal, assisted by Dmitry Lugin. Chelyabinsk tied it in the third period with a Petri Kontiola power play goal, powered by Andrei Kostitsyn. The tie went to a shootout, where Traktor's Lauris Darzins scored three times en route to helping his team to a 2-1 victory, after Amur's Jakub Petruzalek scored twice in the skills competition. The three stars were Darzins, Petruzalek, and Garnett (25 for 26 in saves), while Jarvinen (31 for 32 in saves) gets the honorable mention.

Moving into Ufa, as Salavat Yulaev welcomes Sibir Novosibirsk. Sergei Gaiduchenko and Alexei Volkov are the masked men. Ufa was first to score in the first period on a Nikita Filatov goal, coming off of Dmitry Makarov. Novosibirsk tied it on a Jonas Enlund goal, fueled by Jori Lehtera and Vyacheslav Belov. Sibir took the lead in the second period as Belov scored, with a lone assist from Lehtera. Salavat Yulaev retied the game in the third period with an Alexander Stepanov goal, courtesy of Brent Sopel and Alexei Glukhov. Novosibirsk pulled ahead again as Enlund potted an unassisted goal. This held up for a 3-2 Sibir win, with the three stars being Enlund, Belov, and Lehtera.

Next up, Metallurg Magnitogorsk hosts Admiral Vladivostok. Evgeny Ivannikov and Vasily Koshechkin are between the pipes. Vladivostok began with a first period goal by Viktor Drugov, going in unassisted. Magnitogorsk tied it on a Jan Kovar goal, passed from Chris Lee. Metallurg added on as Kovar scored again, with helpers provided by Sergei Mozyakin and Sergei Tereshchenko. Magnitogorsk extended the lead in the second period as Denis Platonov scored, via Cal O'Reilly and Yaroslav Khabarov. Metallurg padded the lead in the third period on an Evgeny Timkin goal, with a lone assist by Mozyakin. They would win by this 4-1 margin, with the three stars being Kovar, Koshechkin (23 for 24 in saves), and Mozyakin.

To the west, Severstal Cherepovets brings in Donbass Donetsk. Michael Leighton and Jakub Stepanek are in the blue paint. Donetsk opened with a first period goal by Petr Podhradsky, coming off of Lukas Kaspar. Donbass extended the lead with a Randy Robitaille, with a lone assist from Kaspar. Donetsk added on in the third period with a power play goal by Clay Wilson, powered by Robitaille and Kaspar, the latter getting a sock trick. Donbass iced it at 4-0 with an empty net goal by Teemu Laine, set up by Pettei Wirtanen. The three stars were Leighton (27 save shutout), Robitaille, and Kaspar.

Backtracking to Nizhnekamsk, where Neftekhimik hosts Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Ilya Sorokin and Alexander Sudnitsin receive the starting nods. Nizhnekamsk struck first in the first period on a Martin Cibak goal, fueled by Oskar Osala and Yegor Milovzorov. Novokuznetsk tied it on a power play goal by Mikhail Chernov, powered by Tuukka Mantyla. Neftekhimik took the lead in the second period on a Denis Tolpeko power play goal, set up by Mikhail Anisin and Vitaly Shulakov. Metallurg tied it again on an Evgeny Lapenkov power play goal, via Mantyla and Rafael Akhmetov. Nizhnekamsk regained the lead with a Milovzorov goal, coming off of Cibak and Osala. Neftekhimik extended the lead with a third period Osala goal, with a lone helper from Milovzorov. Nizhnekamsk added on as Andrei Taratukhin scored, courtesy of Maxim Berezin and Roman Lyuduchin. Neftekhimik got another when Cibak potted a power play goal, with assists provided by Nikita Shchitov and Stanislav Romanov. Novokuznetsk took one back as Damir Zhafyarov scored a power play goal, coming off of Marko Anttila and Magomed Gimbatov. This only made it 6-3, with the three stars being Cibak, Osala, and Milovzorov, while Mantyla was an honorable mention.

West again to Yaroslavl, with Lokomotiv welcoming Medvescak Zagreb. Mark Dekanich and Vitaly Kolesnik being padded up. Yaroslavl led off in the first period with a power play goal by Jonas Holos, assisted by Yury Patrov and Staffan Kronwall. Zagreb tied it with a power play goal by Kurtis Foster, powered by Bill Thomas and Mathieu Carle. Medvescak took the lead in the third period as Thomas scored, thanks to Carle. Lokomotiv tied it with a power play goal by Alexei Vasilyev, set up by Ilya Gorokhov. Yaroslavl ended up taking the game 3-2 in the shootout with goals from Alexander Chernikov and Daniil Apalkov to topple Zagreb's lone tally by Charles Linglet. The three stars were Thomas, Carle, and Apalkov.

Into St. Petersburg, where SKA hosts Spartak Moscow. Jeff Glass and Alexander Salak tend the twines. Moscow got going with an Alexei Krutov goal, set up by Denis Bodrov. St. Petersburg tied it in the second period with a Maxim Chudinov goal, fueled by Patrick Thoresen and Tony Martensson. SKA took the lead as Ilya Kovalchuk scored, with a lone assist by Viktor Tikhonov. St. Petersburg added on with a Martensson goal, passed from Yury Alexandrov and Roman Cervenka. SKA extended the lead when Kovalchuk scored again, again helped along by Tikhonov. This proved to create the 4-1 final score, with the three stars being Kovalchuk, Martensson, and Tikhonov.

Finally, we end in Mytishchi, with Atlant bringing in Dinamo Minsk. Lars Haugen and Stanislav Galimov guard the cages. Minsk opened in the first period with an Alexei Yefimenko goal, assisted by Dmitry Meleshko and Pavel Chernook. Mytishchi tied it in the second period as Alexander Kadeikin scored an unassisted goal. Atlant took the lead as Kadeikin scored again, with the help of Rafael Batyrshin and Evgeny Artyukhin. Mytishchi added on as Igor Radulov scored a third period goal, via Batyrshin. Dinamo got one back with an unassisted goal by Evgeny Dadonov. They failed to tie the game, losing 3-2, with the three stars being Kadeikin, Batyrshin, and Radulov.

Thursday Night Football Week 3 2013

Tonight's Thursday Night game is a homecoming for Andy Reid, as his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, host his new team, the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City led off in the first quarter with a 33 yard field goal by Ryan Succop. The Chiefs added on as Eric Berry intercepted Michael Vick and returned the ball 38 yards for a touchdown, and Succop nailed the extra point. Philadelphia got on the board as Vick tossed a touchdown pass to the right guy, Jason Avant, for 22 yards, but Zach Ertz's scramble for two points went awry. Kansas City replied in the second quarter on a 31 yard field goal by Succop. The Chiefs extended the lead as Succop made a 34 yard field goal. The Eagles got some back in the third quarter as Alex Henery made a 29 yard field goal. Kansas City answered in the fourth quarter with a 3 yard touchdown run by Jamaal Charles, and Succop was true with the PAT. Philadelphia chipped back as LeSean McCoy ran 41 yards for a touchdown, and Henery nailed the extra point. The Chiefs shot back with a 38 yard Succop field goal. This was good for a 26-16 win, and the Chiefs are now 3-0 while dropping the Eagles to 1-2.

KHL Day 16 2013-2014

There are six games to go through today, beginning with...

Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg hosting Avangard Omsk. Teemu Lassila and Jakub Kovar will make the starts. Yekaterinburg got going in the second period with a Fyodor Malykhin goal, passed from Anton Lazarev. Omsk tied it with an unassisted Oleg Kvasha goal. Avtomobilist retook the lead in the third period on an unassisted goal by Malykhin. Yekaterinburg added on when Eduard Lewandowski scored an unassisted goal. Avtomobilist padded the lead with a power play goal by Tobias Viklund, powered by Evgeny Fyodorov and Alexei Simakov. This made it 4-1, the final, with the three stars being Malykhin, Kovar (26 for 27 in saves), and Lewandowski.

Over in Khanty-Mansiysk, Yugra hosts Barys Astana. Ari Ahonen and Mikhail Biryukov protect the nets. Astana was first to score in the first period as Dmitry Upper converted a penalty shot he received after being tripped by Marek Troncinsky. Barys added on with an Alexei Litvinenko goal, coming on the power play from Talgat Zhailauov. Astana extended the lead Brandon Bochenski scored a power play goal, powered by Nigel Dawes and Evgeny Blokhin. Khanty-Mansiysk got on the board with an Alexei Pepelyaev power play goal, pushed through by Mikhail Yakubov and Anton Krysanov. Barys replied with a Mikhail Rakhmanov goal, fueled by Artemy Lakiza in the second period. Astana struck again in the third period on a Dustin Boyd goal, with a lone helper from Bochenski on the power play. Barys padded the lead as Boyd put away an unassisted power play goal. Yugra got one back on a Vladimir Gorbunov goal, assisted by Kirill Dyakov and Troncinsky. This was as close as it got, with the final being 6-2 Barys, and the three stars were awarded to Boyd, Bochenski, and Upper.

Way to the west, CSKA Moscow welcomes Ak Bars Kazan. Konstantin Barulin and Rastislav Stana tend the twines. Moscow started in the second period with an Igor Grigorenko power play goal, with a lone assist provided by Alexander Radulov. CSKA added on as Ilari Filppula scored, thanks to Ilya Zubov and Roman Lyubimov. This was it for the scoring, with CSKA winning 2-0, and the three stars went to Stana (23 save shutout), Grigorenko, and Filppula.

Exiting Russia and entering Latvia, we have Dinamo Riga hosting Dynamo Moscow. Alexander Lazushin and Mikael Tellqvist are between the pipes. Moscow began in the first period with a Maxim Pestushko power play goal, powered by Leo Komarov and Filip Novak. Riga tied it as Marcel Hossa scored in the second period, thanks to Kyle Wilson. Dynamo retook the lead in the third period with another Pestushko goal, assisted by Novak and Konstantin Gorovikov. Dinamo tied it with a Paul Szczechura goal, via Sandis Ozolins and Hossa with just a second left in regulation, forcing overtime. Riga won it in the shootout with a pair of goals from Aleksandrs Nizivijs and Vojtech Polak. The three stars of the 3-2 game were Pestushko, Hossa, and Polak.

Shifting to the Czech Republic, we have Lev Praha hosting Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. Georgy Gelashvili and Petri Vehanen are called on to start. Praha opened with a first period Martin Sevc goal, coming off of Jakub Klepis. Nizhny Novgorod tied it on a Pavel Valentenko goal, assisted by Maxim Potapov and Jarkko Immonen on the power play. Torpedo took the lead in the second period as Daniil Zharkov scored, with the help of Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev and Pyotr Schastlivy. Nizhny Novgorod added on with a power play goal by Wojtek Wolski, powered by Krasnoslobodtsev and Juuso Hietanen. Lev answered in the third period as Klepis scored, thanks to Niko Kapanen and Sevc. Praha tied it with a power play goal by Martin Thornberg goal, made possible by Patrik Zackrisson and Jiri Sekac. The tie lasted into a shootout, where Michal Birner and Thornberg lifted Lev to a 4-3 victory. The three stars went to Thornberg, Klepis, and Sevc, while Krasnoslobodtsev got the honorable mention.

Finally, we end in Slovakia, with Slovan Bratislava bringing in Vityaz Podolsk. Johan Backlund and Miroslav Kopriva will occupy the creases. Podolsk struck first in the first period with an Alexander Vasilyev goal, assisted by Vladimir Malevich and Maxim Mamin. Vityaz added on as Dinar Khafizullin scored, with the help of Alexander Korolyuk and Dmitry Shitikov. Podolsk extended the lead with a second period Vyacheslav Solodukhin goal, set up by Igor Golovkov and Alexander Rybakov. Vityaz padded the lead on a goal from Logan Pyett, via Ainars Podzins. Eight games today on a slightly heavier schedule. We begin in...

Chelyabinsk, as Traktor hosts Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Niko Hovinen and Michael Garnett are given the starting nods. Chelyabinsk started with a first period goal by Maxim Kondratyev, assisted by Mikhail Mokin and Anton Glinkin. Traktor added on as Lauris Darzins scored, thanks to Petri Kontiola and Evgeny Katichev. Chelyabinsk extended the lead as Kontiola scored a power play goal, powered by Dmitry Ryabykin. Traktor padded the lead with another Darzins goal, fueled by Ryabykin and Kontiola. Chelyabinsk continued in the third period on a Stanislav Chistov goal, guided in by Konstantin Panov. Novokuznetsk avoided the shutout with a Mark Skutar goal, coming off of Damir Zhafyarov. This was it for the scoring, leaving Traktor with a 5-1 win, and the three stars were Darzins, Kontiola, and Ryabykin.

The tie lasted into a shootout, where Spartak's Andrei Sergeyev and Lokomotiv's Daniil Apalkov traded goals before Spartak won the game 2-1 on an Anderson tally. Astana, as Barys hosts Avangard Omsk. Eduard Reizvikh and Vitaly Yeremeyev are in the blue paint. Astana led off with a first period goal by Brandon Bochenski, with a lone assist from Nigel Dawes. Omsk tied it in the second period as Alexander Frolov scored a power play goal, via Dmitry Vorobyov. Barys took the lead again as Roman Starchenko scored, thanks to Dawes and Mike Lundin. Astana added on with a Talgat Zhailauov goal, passed from Alexei Litvinenko and the goalie Yeremeyev. Barys extended the lead in the third period with a power play goal by Maxim Spiridonov, powered by Zhailauov and Fyodor Polishchuk. Avangard got one back on a power play goal netted by Nikita Pivtsakin, fueled by Miroslav Blatak and Tomas Zaborsky. Astana answered as Spiridonov scored another power play goal, with helpers provided by Maxim Semyonov and Zhailauov. Monday Night Football Week 2

Our Monday night game this week comes from Cincinnati, as the Bengals host the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh started in the first quarter on a 44 yard field goal by Shaun Suisham. Cincinnati took the lead as Giovani Bernard ran 7 yards for a touchdown, and Mike Nugent made the extra point. The Bengals added on in the second quarter as Nugent handled a 41 yard field goal. The Steelers pulled even when Ben Roethlisberger tossed a 1 yard touchdown pass to Derek Moye, and Suisham had the equalizer. Cincinnati took the lead back in the third quarter as Andy Dalton threw a 27 yard touchdown pass to Bernard, and Nugent was there with the PAT. The Bengals padded the lead in the fourth quarter as Nugent kicked a 25 yard field goal. This made it 20-10, a final, with the Bengals now at 1-1 while the Steelers fall to 0-2.

Magnitogorsk got going in the second period with a Dmitry Kazionov goal, set up by Sergei Mozyakin. Magnitogorsk added on as Milan Gulas scored an unassisted goal. Novokuznetsk got on the board in the third period with a Yegor Martynov goal, coming on the power play via Marko Antilla. Magnitogorsk answered with a Mozyakin power play goal, powered by Danis Zaripov. They held on for the 3-1 win, with the three stars being Mozyakin, Koshechkin (34 for 35 in saves), and Gulas.

Moving along to Ufa, where Salavat Yulaev welcomes Amur Khabarovsk. Mika Jarvinen and Iiro Tarkki are set to start. Khabarovsk was first to score in the first period with an unassisted goal by Jakub Petruzalek. Ufa tied it with a Teemu Hartikainen goal, fueled by Dmitry Makarov and Nikita Filatov. Northwest to Cherepovets, as Severstal brings in Dinamo Minsk. Kevin Lalande and Jakub Stepanek occupy the creases. Cherepovets began with a first period goal by Gleb Klimenko, assisted by Vadim Berdnikov. Minsk tied it with a Geoff Platt goal, passed from Alexander Pavlovich. Severstal took the lead back on a power play goal by Pavel Buchnevich, powered by Alexei Medvedev and Vladimir Antipov. Cherepovets added on in the second period as Buchnevich scored another power play goal, set up by Antipov and Medvedev. Severstal extended the lead on a shorthanded goal by Nikolai Bushuyev, thanks to Linus Videll. Dinamo got one back with a power play goal by Platt, made possible by Alexei Kalyuzhny and Alexander Kitarov. They failed to get closer, dropping a 4-2 decision, with the three stars being Buchnevich, Platt, and Antipov, while Medvedev gets an honorable mention.

Into Nizhnekamsk, where Neftekhimik hosts Admiral Vladivostok. Joakim Lundstrom and Alexander Sudnitsin are the masked men. Nizhnekamsk started with a first period goal by Denis Tolpeko, fueled by Pyotr Khokhryakov and Petr Koukal. Vladivostok tied it as Niclas Bergfors put away an unassisted goal. Admiral took the lead in the second period on a Sergei Barbashev goal, guided in by Alexander Kuznetsov and Evgeny Grachyov. Vladivostok added on as Bergfors scored a power play goal, powered by Enver Lisin and Felix Schutz. Neftekhimik got one back with a Branko Radivojevic goal, courtesy of Sergei Demagin and Igor Polygalov. Nizhnekamsk tied it as Yegor Milovzorov scored, with the help of Oskar Osala and Koukal. Neftekhimik took the lead in the third period on a Bogdan Yakimov goal, coming off of Mikhail Anisin and Andrei Taratukhin. Nizhnekamsk padded the lead with a Khokhryakov goal, dished from Fyodor Belyakov and Yakimov. Admiral shot back on a Yegor Antropov goal, assisted by Lisin and Anton Poleshchuk. Vladivostok tied the game with an unassisted goal potted by Kuznetsov. The tie lasted into a shootout, where Demagin and Lisin traded goals before Anisin put the game away for good 6-5 in favor of Neftekhimik. The three stars were Anisin, Yakimov, and Khokhryakov, while Koukal, Bergfors, Lisin, Kuznetsov, and Demagin all get honorable mentions.

To the west, SKA St. Petersburg welcomes Medvescak Zagreb. Barry Brust and Alexander Salak. St. Petersburg opened with a first period power play goal by Dmitry Kalinin, powered by Evgeny Ryasensky and Patrick Thoresen. SKA added on in the second period with a second period Roman Cervenka goal, fueled by Thoresen. St. Petersburg iced it at 3-0 in the third period as Kalinin scored another power play goal, set up by Ryasensky and Tony Martensson. The three stars were Kalinin, Salak (31 save shutout), and Thoresen, while Ryasensky gets an honorable mention.

Finally, in Yaroslavl, Lokomotiv brings in Donbass Donetsk. Michael Leighton and Curtis Sanford tend the twines. Donetsk led off in the second period with an Oskars Bartulis goal, assisted by Oleg Piganovich. Donbass added on as Piganovich scored, via Bartulis and Randy Robitaille. Yaroslavl got on the board as Daniil Apalkov scored, and Emil Galimov had the lone assist. Donetsk answered with an Evgeny Dadonov goal, courtesy of Robitaille and Jan Kolar. Lokomotiv shot back on an Alexei Vasilyev goal, passed from Anton But and Ilya Gorokhov on the power play. Yaroslavl tied it with another Vasilyev power play goal, guided in by But and Gorokhov again. Donbass won 4-3 in overtime on a Gennady Razin goal, made possible by Robitaille, who got a sock trick, and Dadonov. The three stars of the game were Bartulis, Piganovich, and Robitaille, while Dadonov, Vasilyev, But, and Gorokhov all get honorable mentions.
