2015-16 NHL Season - Day 145

Eight games on the busiest day of the weekdays for this particular week. We begin with...

The Buffalo Sabres hosting the New York Rangers. Antti Raanta and Robin Lehner are called on to start in goal. New York began in the first period with a Derick Brassard power play goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, powered by Mats Zuccarello and Keith Yandle. The Rangers added on in the second period with a Zuccarello goal, his twenty-second of the year, passed from Derek Stepan. New York extended the lead as Jesper Fast scored his tenth of the campaign, thanks to Brassard and Kevin Klein. Chad Johnson replaced Lehner in goal. Buffalo got on the board with a Sam Reinhart goal, his nineteenth of the season, helped along by Jack Eichel and the goalie Johnson. The Sabres pulled closer with a Johan Larsson goal, his sixth of the year, coming off of Brian Gionta and Zach Bogosian. The Rangers iced it at 4-2 with a J.T. Miller empty net goal, his eighteenth of the campaign, set up by Zuccarello. The three stars went to Zuccarello, Brassard, and Raanta (34 for 36 in saves).

Down in Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes welcome the Ottawa Senators. Andrew Hammond and Cam Ward are the overrated goalies. Ottawa was first to score in the first period with a Mark Stone goal, his twenty-first of the season, coming off of Scott Gomez. The Senators added on with a Ryan Dzingel goal, his third of the year, passed from Bobby Ryan. Carolina got on the board in the second period with a Jeff Skinner goal, his twenty-fourth of the campaign, assisted by Phillip Di Giuseppe and Ryan Murphy. The Hurricanes tied it on a Jay McClement shorthanded goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. Ottawa retook the lead with a shorthanded goal by Zack Smith, his nineteenth of the year, set up by Curtis Lazar. Carolina retied it on a Skinner goal in the last second of the game, his second of the game and twenty-fifth of the campaign, helped along by Victor Rask and Murphy. In the shootout, Mika Zibanejad scored for the Senators, but got beat by Riley Nash and Jaccob Slavin of the Hurricanes, as they won 4-3. The three stars went to Skinner, Muephy, and McClement.

Back north, the New York Islanders host the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marc-Andre Fleury and Jaroslav Halak protect the nets. New York led off in the first period with a John Tavares power play goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, powered by Nick Leddy and Frans Nielsen. Pittsburgh tied it on a Kris Letang goal, his twelfth of the year, guided in by Sidney Crosby. The Islanders took the lead in the third period with an Anders Lee power play goal, his twelfth of the campaign, powered by Leddy and Nielsen. This made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars handed to Halak (31 for 32 in saves before removal for injury), Leddy, and Nielsen.

West to Columbus, with the Blue Jackets bringing in the Detroit Red Wings. Jimmy Howard and Joonas Korpisalo are in the creases. Columbus got going in the second period with a David Savard power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Alexander Wennberg and Seth Jones. Detroit tied it on a Justin Abdelkader goal, his sixteenth of the year, fueled by Gustav Nyquist and Mike Green. The Blue Jackets took the lead back with a David Clarkson goal, his second of the season, passed from Matt Calvert and William Karlsson. Columbus added on with a Boone Jenner goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, assisted by Brandon Dubinsky and Cam Atkinson in the third period. The Blue Jackets extended the lead as Atkinson scored his twenty-second of the season, a power play goal with helpers from Jones and Wennberg. The Red Wings answered with a Tomas Tatar power play goal, his eighteenth of the year, made possible by Green and Pavel Datsyuk. Detroit got closer with an Andreas Athanasiou goal, his fifth of the season, courtesy of Green, who got a sock trick. Columbus finished it at 5-3 with an Atkinson empty net goal, his second of the game and twenty-third of the year, set up by Jenner and Dubinsky. The three stars went to Atkinson, Jenner, and Green, while Dubinsky, Wennberg, and Jones receive the honorable mentions.

Up in Montreal, the Canadiens host the Dallas Stars. Kari Lehtonen and Ben Scrivens are between the pipes. Dallas opened in the first period with a Cody Eakin goal, his twelfth of the season, made possible by Jason Demers and Ales Hemsky. Montreal tied it on a Max Pacioretty goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, passed from Andrei Markov and Alex Galchenyuk. The Stars took the lead back in the second period with a Jason Spezza power play goal, his twenty-fifth of the season, powered by Kris Russell and Jamie Benn. The Canadiens tied it again on a Galchenyuk goal, his twenty-second of the year, via Sven Andrighetto and Pacioretty. Montreal took the lead with a Phillip Danault goal, his second of the season, assisted by Greg Pateryn and Lucas Lessio. Dallas tied it again with a Hemsky goal, his tenth of the year, with a lone assist by Eakin. The Canadiens won 4-3 in overtime on a Galchenyuk goal, his second of the game and twenty-third of the campaign, guided in by Markov and Andrighetto. The three stars were awarded to Galchenyuk, Pacioretty, and Hemsky, while Eakin, Markov, and Andrighetto are given the honorable mentions.

Back to the south, the Tampa Bay Lightning welcome the Boston Bruins. Jonas Gustavsson is mismatched with Ben Bishop in goal. Boston won 1-0 in overtime on a Brad Marchand goal, his thirty-fourth of the season, assisted by Patrice Bergeron and Torey Krug. The three stars were Gustavsson (42 save shutout), Marchand, and Bishop (32 for 33 in saves).

Far to the northwest, the Winnipeg Jets host the Nashville Predators. Pekka Rinne and Ondrej Pavelec are the veteran goalies. Winnipeg started in the first period with a Drew Stafford goal, his seventeenth of the season, fueled by Mark Scheifele and Dustin Byfuglien. Nashville tied it on a Craig Smith goal, his seventeenth of the year, guided in by Viktor Arvidsson and Ryan Ellis. The Predators took the lead with a Colton Sissons goal, his second of the campaign, via Colin Wilson and Shea Weber. Nashville added on in the third period with a Ryan Johansen goal, his eleventh of the season, helped along by Wilson and Sissons. The Jets pulled back with a Jacob Trouba goal, his sixth of the year, passed from Marko Dano and Alex Burmistrov. The Predators replied with Smith's second of the game and eighteenth of the campaign, made possible by Filip Forsberg and Mike Ribeiro. This resulted in a 4-2 final, with the three stars handed to Smith, Sissons, and Wilson.

Finally, the Edmonton Oilers bring in the San Jose Sharks. James Reimer and Cam Talbot are the goalies. San Jose struck first in the first period with a Logan Couture goal, his ninth of the season, helped along by Matt Nieto and Joonas Donskoi. The Sharks added on with a Couture power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski. San Jose extended the lead as Pavelski scored his thirty-first of the campaign in the second period, coming off of Paul Martin and Joe Thornton. This stood for an eventual 3-0 final, with the three stars going to Reimer (31 save shutout), Couture, and Pavelski.

2015-16 NHL Season - Day 144

Seven games on for today's schedule, beginning with...

The Philadelphia Flyers hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Steve Mason are the backups in goal. Tampa Bay began in the first period with an Ondrej Palat goal, his eleventh of the season, coming off of Slater Koekkoek and Tyler Johnson. Philadelphia tied it in the second period on a Shayne Gostisbehere goal, his thirteenth of the year, via Michael Raffl and Sean Couturier. The Flyers took the lead with another Gostisbehere goal in the third period, his second of the game and fourteenth of the campaign, a power play goal made possible by Claude Giroux and Mark Streit. Philadelphia added on with a Brayden Schenn goal, his twenty-second of the season, assisted by Giroux and Wayne Simmonds. The Lightning got one back with a Vladislav Namestnikov goal, his eleventh of the year, helped along by Johnson and Nikita Kucherov. The Flyers iced it at 4-2 with a Simmonds empty net goal, his twenty-fourth of the campaign, set up by Schenn. The three stars went to Gostisbehere, Schenn, and Giroux, while Simmonds and Johnson get the honorable mentions.

The Bruins added on with a David Pastrnak goal, his ninth of the year, guided in by Matt Beleskey and Dennis Seidenberg. Florida got on the board with an Aleksander Barkov goal, his twentieth of the season, via Jaromir Jagr and Jonathan Huberdeau. Calgary tied it in the third period with a Joe Colborne power play goal, his twelfth of the year, powered by Mark Giordano. The Sharks won 2-1 in overtime with a Joe Pavelski goal, his thirtieth of the campaign, helped along by Burns and Joe Thornton. The three stars were awarded to Burns, Jones (47 for 48 in saves), and Pavelski.

Over in Colorado, the Avalanche bring in the Arizona Coyotes. Louis Domingue and Semyon Varlamov are the masked men. Colorado started in the first period with a Shawn Matthias goal, his eighth of the season, guided in by Francois Beauchemin and Carl Soderberg. The Avalanche added on in the second period with a Matt Duchene power play goal, his twenty-eighth of the year, powered by Blake Comeau and Mikhail Grigorenko. Colorado extended the lead as Grigorenko scored his fifth of the season in the third period, thanks to Duchene and Jarome Iginla. Arizona got on the board with a Boyd Gordon goal, fueled by Sergei Plotnikov and Kevin Connauton. This only made it 3-1, with the three stars given to Duchene, Grigorenko, and Varlamov (37 for 38 in saves).

In California, the Anaheim Ducks welcome the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and John Gibson are the solid young goalies. Anaheim was first to score in the first period on a Ryan Getzlaf goal, his tenth of the season, made possible by David Perron and Simon Despres. Washington tied it in the third period with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his fourteenth of the year, via Evgeny Kuznetsov and Justin Williams. In the shootout, T.J. Oshie and Nicklas Backstrom put the Capitals at a 2-1 win over a lone tally by the Ducks' Corey Perry. The three stars went to Holtby (27 for 28 in saves), Gibson (31 for 32 in saves), and Burakovsky.

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the Vancouver Canucks. Ryan Miller and Jonathan Quick are the American goalies. Vancouver got going in the second period on a Dan Hamhuis goal, his second of the season, helped along by Linden Vey and Daniel Sedin. Los Angeles tied it with a Drew Doughty goal, his thirteenth of the year, fueled by Rob Scuderi and Anze Kopitar. The Kings took the lead with a Kopitar power play goal, his twentieth of the season, powered by Doughty and Jake Muzzin. Los Angeles added on in the third period with a Jeff Carter goal, his sixteenth of the year, courtesy of Kopitar. The Kings extended the lead as Vincent Lecavalier scored his sixth of the season, thanks to Alec Martinez. Los Angeles padded the lead with a Carter empty net goal, his second of the game and seventeenth of the year, set up by Milan Lucic. This made it 5-1, the final, with the three stars going to Kopitar, Doughty, and Carter.

Major League Soccer 2016 - Week 1

MLS is back for the 2016 season, and everything starts with Soccer Sunday. All teams are in action to kick things off this season, with eleven straight hours of games. The festivities begin with...

The New York Red Bulls hosting Toronto FC. Clint Irwin and Luis Robles are the experienced keepers. Toronto FC saw a yellow card for Daniel Lovitz in the thirty-eighth minute for his foul. New York had a yellow card given to Ronald Zubar in the forty-seventh minute for a foul. In the eighty-second minute, Toronto got going with a Sebastian Giovinco penalty kick goal. Giovinco took a yellow card for an eighty-eighth minute foul. Marco Delgado added to the Toronto lead with a stoppage time goal, set up by Giovinco. Toronto took the game 2-0, with the man of the match being Giovinco.

Over in Illinois, the Chicago Fire welcome New York City FC. Josh Saunders and Matt Lampson are set to start in goal. New York City began with a tenth minute Thomas McNamara goal, assisted by Khiry Shelton. In the fourteenth minute, Frederic Brillant of New York City took a yellow card for a foul. Chicago tied it in the nineteenth minute with a Razvan Cocis goal, passed from Arturo Alvarez. In the twenty-ninth minute, New York City retook the lead with a Tony Taylor goal. The Fire had a yellow card given to Joao Meira in the thirty-second minute for his foul. New York City added on with a thirty-sixth minute goal by Shelton, passed from Mix Diskerud. Chicago pulled back with a Kennedy Igboananike goal in the forty-ninth minute, courtesy of David Accam. New York City saw a yellow card given to Taylor for delaying the restart of play in the fifty-ninth minute. Matt Polster of the Fire had a yellow card for his foul in the sixty-second minute. New York City replied with a Diskerud goal in the sixty-third minute, via McNamara. Chicago edged closer again with a seventy-second minute penalty kick goal by Accam. This made it 4-3, which stood as the final. New York City's Diskerud took man of the match honors with the winner.

Down to Orlando City SC bringing in Real Salt Lake. Nick Rimando and Joe Bendik play goal. Salt Lake had a bit of early misfortune, as Demar Phillips took a yellow card for an eleventh minute foul and then another yellow card in the twentieth minute for another foul, putting his team at ten men. Salt Lake led off with a twenty-sixth minute penalty kick goal by Joao Plata. In the thirty-second minute, Pedro Ribeiro of Orlando City received a yellow card for his foul. Orlando City's Darwin Ceren took a straight red card for his foul in first half stoppage time, and both teams returned to even strength on ten men aside. Real added to their lead with a Plata goal in the sixty-sixth minute, coming off of Tony Beltran and Juan Manuel Martinez. Chris Wingert of Real had a yellow card for a seventy-fourth minute foul, as did Seb Hines of Orlando City in the seventy-sixth minute. Orlando City got on the board four minutes into second half stoppage time with a Cyle Larin goal, helped along by Brek Shea and Hadji Barry. Orlando City tied it a minute later with an Adrian Winter goal, fueled by Larin and Servando Carrasco. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with Larin's late heroics making him the man of the match as they salvaged a tie.

Down in Texas, FC Dallas hosts the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Jesse Gonzalez are the goalies. Dallas started with a Fabian Castillo goal in the twenty-second minute, courtesy of Mauro Diaz. Philadelphia had a yellow card for a Brian Carroll foul in the thirty-fourth minute. Dallas saw Matt Hedges take a yellow card for a foul in the seventy-first minute. Dallas added on with a Maximiliano Urruti goal in the seventy-ninth minute, via Diaz. This stood for a 2-0 win, with the man of the match named as Castillo.

Staying in the state, the Houston Dynamo welcome the New England Revolution. Bobby Shuttleworth faces a lesser foe in Joe Willis in goal. New England opened in the third minute with a Diego Fagundez goal. In the twenty-seventh minute, Teal Bunbury of the Revolution had a yellow card for his foul. Houston tied it on a Cristian Maidana goal in first half stoppage time. New England saw a yellow card for a foul by Je-Vaughn Watson in the forty-ninth minute. The Dynamo took the lead on a fiftieth minute Andrew Wenger goal, via Will Bruin and Ricardo Clark. The Revolution retied it in the fifty-second minute with a Charlie Davies goal, made possible by Fagundez. Houston's Jalil Anibaba had a yellow card for a fifty-fifth minute foul. The Dynamo gained the lead with a Giles Barnes goal in the seventy-seventh minute, helped along by Bruin. New England tied it in second half stoppage time on a Daigo Kobayashi goal, set up by Fagundez. The final held at 3-3, with the man of the match being Fagundez for having a hand in every Revolution goal.

Out in California, the San Jose Earthquakes bring in the Colorado Rapids. Zac MacMath and David Bingham are the gloved men. Colorado had a yellow card for Micheal Azira foul in the forty-third minute. San Jose dented the scoreboard with a forty-sixth minute Chris Wondolowski goal, passed from Alberto Quintero and Quincy Amarikwa. In the seventy-second minute, Anibal Godoy had a yellow card for a foul, and Quintero received a yellow card in the seventy-fifth minute for persistent infringement as the Earthquakes receive discipline. Dillon Powers of the Rapids had a yellow card in the eighty-sixth minute for a foul. San Jose claimed a 1-0 victory, with the man of the match honors given to Bingham for the five-save clean sheet.

Up in Portland, the Timbers host the Columbus Crew SC. Steve Clark and Adam Larsen Kwarasey protect the nets. Portland struck first in the twenty-third minute with a Diego Valeri goal. Columbus had a yellow card go to Gaston Sauro in the twenty-fifth minute for a foul, and another in the forty-fifth minute to Wil Trapp for the same reason. The Timbers saw Jermaine Taylor receive a yellow card for a forty-sixth minute foul. The Crew tied it in the sixty-eighth minute with a Federico Higuain goal, helped along by Ethan Finlay. Portland retook the lead with a Fanendo Adi goal in the seventy-ninth minute. The Timbers had yellow cards for fouls by Alvas Powell in the eighty-first minute and Adi in the eighty-seventh minute. The Timbers won 2-1, with the man of the match being Adi for his winner.

North to Vancouver, where the Whitecaps FC welcome Canadian rivals in the Montreal Impact. Evan Bush and David Ousted are in the six-yard boxes. Montreal was first to score in the nineteenth minute with an Ignacio Piatti goal, via Harry Shipp. The Impact added on in the forty-second minute with a Dominic Oduro goal, passed from Piatti. Vancouver got on the board with a forty-fifth minute Jordan Harvey goal, set up by Pedro Morales, while Montreal's Ambroise Oyongo took a yellow card for a foul in the same minute. Christian Bolanos of the Whitecaps took a yellow card for a sixty-second minute foul. Vancouver's Fraser Aird took a yellow card in the seventy-seventh minute for a foul. The Impact extended the lead in the eighty-eighth minute with a Piatti goal, with an assist form Oduro. The Whitecaps got one back in stoppage time with a Kendall Waston goal, helped along by Bolanos. This made it 3-2, but the Impact held on to win by that margin. The man of the match honor was awarded to Piatti for a brace and assist.

Backtracking to Seattle, the Sounders FC bring in Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and Stefan Frei guard the woodwork. Seattle went down to ten men when Oniel Fisher took a straight red card in the forty-first minute. Kansas City drew first blood with a Nuno Coelho goal in the seventy-third minute, set up by Jordi Quintilla. Graham Zusi of Sporting took a yellow card for a foul in the seventy-sixth minute, as did their Roger Espinoza in the seventy-seventh minute. The final held at 1-0 for Sporting, with Coelho's goal earning him the man of the match title.

Finally, the Los Angeles Galaxy host DC United. Andrew Dykstra and Dan Kennedy are the keepers. DC cracked the scoresheet with a fifth minute Lamar Neagle goal. At the twentieth minute, Brian Rowe had to replace an injured Kennedy in the Los Angeles goal. In the forty-eighth minute, United's Neagle had a yellow card for his foul. Los Angeles tied it with a Daniel Steres goal in the fifty-fourth minute, made possible by Mike Magee. DC had a yellow card for a fifty-ninth minute foul by Sean Franklin. The Galaxy took the lead with a Magee goal in the sixty-fourth minute, set up by Sebastian Lletget. Los Angeles added on with a Robbie Keane penalty kick goal in the eighty-third minute. United saw Nick DeLeon take a yellow card for an eighty-sixth minute foul. The Galaxy extended the lead as Magee scored in the eighty-seventh minute, thanks to Steven Gerrard. This made it a 4-1 win, with the man of the match being Magee for his brace and assist.

The Blackhawks added on with a Duncan Keith power play goal, his ninth of the year, powered by Artemi Panarin and Artem Anisimov. Jimmy Howard replaced Mrazek at this time. Detroit got on the board with a Gustav Nyquist goal, his sixteenth of the season, coming off of Danny DeKeyser. Chicago replied in the third period with an Anisimov power play goal, his nineteenth of the year, via Panarin and Brent Seabrook. The Blackhawks extended the lead as Jonathan Toews scored his twenty-fourth of the season, thanks to Andrew Desjardins and Rozsival. The Penguins added on with a Matt Cullen goal, his tenth of the year, going in unassisted. Pittsburgh extended the lead as Nick Bonino scored in the second period, his fourth of the season, thanks to Bryan Rust and Tom Kuhnhackl. New Jersey got on the board with a Kyle Palmieri goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, via Reid Boucher. The Penguins replied with Malkin's second of the game and twenty-seventh of the season, with a lone helper by Phil Kessel. Pittsburgh padded the lead with a third period Rust goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Justin Schultz and Bonino. The Islanders retook the lead with a Cal Clutterbuck goal, his twelfth of the season, passed from Casey Cizikas. The Islanders iced it at 6-4 with a Nielsen empty net goal, his nineteenth of the year, set up by Nikolay Kulemin. Up in Ottawa, the Senators host the Dallas Stars. Kari Lehtonen and Andrew Hammond are in the blue paint. Ottawa got going with a Zack Smith goal in the second period, his eighteenth of the season, helped along by Mark Stone and Jena-Gabriel Pageau. Dallas tied it with a Jason Spezza power play goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, powered by Kris Russell and Jamie Benn. The Stars took the lead in the third period with an Antoine Roussel goal, his eleventh of the campaign, assisted by Ales Hemsky and Alex Goligoski. The final held at 2-1, with the three stars being Roussel, Lehtonen (23 for 24 in saves), and Spezza.

Westward to Winnipeg, where the Jets welcome the Edmonton Oilers. Cam Talbot and Ondrej Pavelec are the unimpressive goalies. Edmonton dented the scoreboard with a second period Patrick Maroon goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Taylor Hall and Leon Draisaitl. Winnipeg tied it on a Mark Scheifele goal, his twenty-first of the year, made possible by Blake Wheeler and Tyler Myers. The Oilers retook the lead with a Lauri Korpikoski goal, his eighth of the season, passed from Andrej Sekera and Adam Clendening. The final stood at 2-1, with the three stars going to Talbot (39 for 40 in saves), Korpikoski, and Maroon.

Finally, the Minnesota Wild bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Devan Dubnyk guard the cages. St. Louis started in the first period with a Jori Lehtera goal, his eighth of the season, going in unassisted. The Blues added on with a Ryan Reaves goal, his third of the year, coming off of Kyle Brodziak and Jay Bouwmeester. St. Louis extended the lead in the second period as Patrik Berglund scored his sixth of the season, thanks to David Backes. Darcy Kuemper relieved Dubnyk in goal. Minnesota got on the board in the third period with a Ryan Suter goal, his eighth of the year, courtesy of Zach Parise. The Wild pulled closer with a Matt Dumba goal, his tenth of the season, with a lone helper by Charlie Coyle. The Blues iced it at 4-2 with a Robby Fabbri empty net goal, his sixteenth of the year, set up by Kevin Shattenkirk. The three stars went to Berglund, Allen (30 for 32 in saves), and Lehtera.

It's a full slate of games this weekend, beginning with...

Tottenham Hotspur hosting London rivals Arsenal as the first of eight games on Saturday. David Ospina and Hugo Lloris are in goal. Arsenal saw a yellow card for Hector Bellerin in the twenty-sixth minute for a foul. Tottenham Hotspur had a yellow card given to Erik Lamela for his twenty-eighth minute foul. In the twenty-ninth minute, Arsenal saw a yellow card given to Francis Coquelin for a handball. Arsenal began in the thirty-ninth minute with an Aaron Ramsey goal, made possible by Bellerin. In the fifty-fifth minute, Coquelin was caught for a foul, receiving a second yellow card and putting Arsenal down to ten men. Tottenham Hotspur tied it with a sixtieth minute Toby Alderweireld goal, passed from Lamela. Tottenham Hotspur gained the lead in the sixty-second minute with a Harry Kane goal, set up by Dele Alli. In the sixty-sixth minute, Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal received a yellow card. Eric Dier of Tottenham Hotspur took a yellow card for his seventy-third minute foul. Arsenal tied it with a seventy-sixth minute goal by Sanchez, coming off of Bellerin. This stood for a 2-2 draw.

Staying in the city, Chelsea welcomes Stoke City. Jack Butland and Thibaut Courtois draw the starts in goal. Chelsea led off with a thirty-ninth minute Bertrand Traore goal, via Nemanja Matic. Chelsea had a yellow card given to Oscar in the forty-fifth minute. Stoke City saw yellow cards for Erik Pieters in the fifty-third minute and Glenn Whelan in the seventy-third minute, both for fouls. Stoke City tied it on a Mame Biram Diouf goal in the eighty-fifth minute. This produced the 1-1 final.

Up to Everton bringing in West Ham United. Adrian and Joel Robles are the keepers. Everton struck first in the thirteenth minute on a Romelu Lukaku goal, set up by Bryan Oviedo. In the sixteenth minute, Everton's Kevin Mirallas took a yellow card for diving, and he followed that up with a yellow card for a foul in the thirty-fourth minute, with his ejection putting Everton at ten men. West Ham United saw a yellow card given to Michail Antonio in the thirty-seventh minute for a foul. Everton added on in the fifty-sixth minute with an Aaron Lennon goal, fueled by Lukaku. Robles of Everton had a yellow card for a seventy-fifth minute occurrence of time wasting. West Ham United got on the board in the seventy-eighth minute with an Antonio goal, guided in by Mark Noble. In the eightieth minute, Angelo Ogbonna of West Ham United received a yellow card for a foul. West Ham United tied it on an eighty-first minute goal by Diafra Sakho, via Dimitri Payet. West Ham United gained the lead in the ninetieth minute with a Payet goal, courtesy of Sakho. Next up, Manchester City hosts Aston Villa. Brad Guzan is mismatched with Joe Hart in goal. Aston Villa took a yellow card for a Jordan Veretout foul in the forty-fifth minute. Manchester City got going in the forty-eighth minute with a Yaya Toure goal, via David Silva. Manchester City added on with a fiftieth minute goal by Sergio Aguero. Manchester City extended the lead as Aguero scored his second of the game in the sixtieth minute, thanks to Silva. Manchester City padded the lead with a Raheem Sterling goal, fueled by Jesus Navas in the sixty-sixth minute. This was good for a 4-0 win.

Continuing along, Newcastle United welcomes Bournemouth. Artur Boruc and Robert Elliot are set to start in goal. Bournemouth was first to score as Newcastle United's Steven Taylor knocked the ball into his own net for an own goal. Steve Cook of Bournemouth received a yellow card in the forty-fifth minute. In the fifty-sixth minute, Ayoze Perez of Newcastle United had a yellow card for his foul. Bournemouth added on with a Joshua King goal in the seventieth minute, courtesy of Matt Ritchie. Dan Gosling of Bournemouth received a yellow card for a seventy-fifth minute foul. Newcastle United got on the board with an eightieth minute Perez goal, via Jonjo Shelvey. In the eighty-ninth minute, Louis Grabban of Bournemouth took a yellow card for a foul. Bournemouth replied with a stoppage time goal by Charlie Daniels, set up by Marc Pugh. The final held at 3-1 for Bournemouth.

Down to Southampton bringing in Sunderland. Vito Mannone and Fraser Forster are in the six-yard boxes. In the eighth minute, Southampton's Ryan Bertrand received a yellow card for a foul. Sunderland saw a yellow card for a Wahbi Khazri foul in the eleventh minute. Southampton took a yellow card for a Virgil van Dijk foul in the thirty-first minute. At the seventy-nine minute mark, Jose Fonte of Southampton received a red card for his foul, putting the hosts at ten men. Sunderland dented the scoreboard with an eighty-fifth minute goal by Jermain Defoe, courtesy of Lamine Kone. Southampton tied it on a van Dijk goal in stoppage time, helped along by Dusan Tadic. This preserved a 1-1 draw in a tightly played game.

Out in Wales, Swansea City hosts Norwich City. John Ruddy and Lukasz Fabianski are the gloved men. Norwich City had yellow cards given to Cameron Jerome in the thirteenth minute and Robbie Brady in the seventeenth minute, both for fouls. Swansea City took a yellow card for a thirty-fourth minute Neil Taylor foul. Norwich City had three more yellow cards in the second half, going to Ryan Bennett in the forty-sixth minute, Russell Martin in the fiftieth minute, and Gary O'Neil in the fifty-seventh minute, all for fouls. Swansea City drew first blood in the sixty-first minute on Gylfi Sigurdsson goal, via Leroy Fer. Swansea City had a yellow card for Angel Rangel in stoppage time for a foul. Swansea City took the win 1-0.

Ending Saturday, Watford welcomes Leicester City. Kasper Schmeichel and Heurelho Gomes are the reliable keepers. Nordin Amrabat of Watford had a yellow card for a twenty-ninth minute foul. Leicester City cracked the scoresheet with a Riyad Mahrez goal in the fifty-sixth minute. Watford's Nathan Ake took a yellow card for his foul in the fifty-eighth minute. In the seventy-fourth minute, Christian Fuchs of Leicester City had a yellow card for a foul, as did Wes Morgan in stoppage time. Leicester City held on for a 1-0 win.

On Sunday, Crystal Palace brings in Liverpool. Simon Mignolet faces a lesser foe in Alex McCarthy in goal. Liverpool's Jordan Henderson took a yellow card for his tenth minute foul. Crystal Palace saw a yellow card go to Scott Dann in the eleventh minute for a foul. Liverpool had a yellow card for James Milner in the fortieth minute for a foul. Crystal Palace opened in the forty-eighth minute with a Joe Ledley goal. In the sixty-second minute, Milner took a second yellow card for Liverpool, and his ejection sent the team to ten men. Liverpool tied the game with a Roberto Firmino goal in the seventy-second minute. In the eighty-sixth minute, Alberto Moreno of Liverpool received a yellow card for his foul. Liverpool took the lead with a penalty kick goal by Christian Benteke five minutes into stoppage time, and it was just in time to steal a 2-1 win for the visitors.

Finally, West Bromwich Albion hosts Manchester United. David de Gea and Ben Foster are the goalies. Juan Mata of Manchester United picked up a pair of yellow cards in the twenty-third and twenty-sixth minutes to earn his ejection for some sloppy fouling, putting Manchester United at ten men. The Buffalo Sabres hosting the Minnesota Wild. Devan Dubnyk and Robin Lehner are the goalies. Minnesota led off in the first period with a David Jones goal, his tenth of the season, helped along by Ryan Carter and Marco Scandella. Buffalo tied it on a Johan Larsson power play goal in the second period, his fifth of the year, powered by Rasmus Ristolainen and Jack Eichel. The Sabres took the lead with an Eichel power play goal, his nineteenth of the season, with assists provided by Sam Reinhart and Cal O'Reilly. The Wild tied it in the third period with a Mikko Koivu power play goal, his fifteenth of the year, with assists provided by Matt Dumba and Ryan Suter. In the shootout, Eichel was topped by Charlie Coyle and Jason Pominville as the Wild won 3-2. The three stars were Eichel, Koivu, and Dubnyk (30 for 32 in saves).

Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins welcome the Calgary Flames. Joni Ortio and Marc-Andre Fleury are set to start. The Maple Leafs took the lead in the second period on a Nikita Soshnikov power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Brendan Leipsic. The Senators tied it in the third period on a Marc Methot goal, his fourth of the season, fueled by Alex Chiasson and Ryan Dzingel. Way to the southwest, the Arizona Coyotes host the Florida Panthers. Al Montoya and Louis Domingue are the lesser-known goalies. The Coyotes added on with an Alex Tanguay goal, his fifth of the year, helped along by Antoine Vermette. Florida got on the board with an Aaron Ekblad goal, his thirteenth of the season, via Jussi Jokinen and Aleksander Barkov. Arizona replied in the third period with a Shane Doan power play goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, powered by Vermette and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Coyotes extended the lead as Tanguay scored his second of the game and sixth of the season, thanks to Vermette, who got a sock trick, and Anthony Duclair. As is standard procedure for the playoffs, this post will cover the entire series.

Game 1: Ufa Arena, Ufa, Russia. In goal: Stanislav Galimov for Kazan and Niklas Svedberg for Ufa. Ufa led off in the first period with an Igor Grigorenko goal, coming off of Andreas Engqvist and Linus Omark. Salavat Yulaev added on with a Grigorenko power play goal in the second period, his second of the game, powered by Engqvist and Omark. Ufa extended the lead as Teemu Hartikainen scored an empty net goal in the third period, set up by Zakhar Arzamastsev and Nikolai Prokhorkin. Salavat Yulaev padded the lead as Denis Khlystov scored, thanks to Stepan Khripunov. Kazan got on the board with a Dmitry Obukhov goal, made possible by Vasily Tokranov and Mikhail Varnakov. Ak Bars added on with a Dmitry Arkhipov goal in the second period, going in unassisted. Kazan extended the lead as Lukoyanov scored, thanks to Andrei Chibisov and Tkachyov. This stood for a 3-0 win, with the three stars given to Tkachyov, Lukoyanov, and Galimov (34 save shutout). Ak Bars cut their deficit to 2-1 in the series.

Game 4: TatNeft Arena, Kazan, Russia. In goal: Niklas Svedberg for Ufa and Stanislav Galimov for Kazan. Ufa started in the first period with a Linus Omark power play goal, powered by Sami Lepisto and Alexander Loginov. Salavat Yulaev added on with a Sergei Soin goal, fueled by Dmitry Makarov and Alexander Nesterov. Salavat Yulaev tied it on an Omark power play goal in the second period, with assists provided by Alexander Loginov and Sami Lepisto. Kazan took the lead again with an Azevedo power play goal, with a lone helper by Mikhail Varnakov. Ak Bars added on with a third period goal by Vladimir Tkachyov on the power play, courtesy of Oscar Moller. Ufa pulled back with an Anton Lazarev goal, fueled by Alexander Nesterov and Loginov. This only made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars going to Azevedo, Omark, and Loginov. Ak Bars has made it a closer series, but they return home trailing Salavat Yulaev 3-2 in that regard.

Game 6: TatNeft Arena, Kazan, Russia. In goal: Niklas Svedberg for Ufa and Emil Garipov for Kazan. Kazan was first to score in the first period with a Vladimir Tkachyov goal, helped along by Albert Yarullin and Nikolai Belov. Ak Bars added on in the second period with an unassisted Tkachyov goal. Kazan extended the lead as Artyom Lukoyanov scored, thanks to Yarullin. Ak Bars padded the lead with another Lukoyanov goal, with a lone assist by Tkachyov. Vladimir Sokhatsky replaced Svedberg in goal. Kazan kept going with a Ryan Wilson power play goal, powered by Denis Golubev and Dmitry Obukhov. Ak Bars continued with a Tkachyov goal in the third period, completing his hat trick on the power play, helped along by Vasily Tokranov. Kazan struck again with a Golubev goal, guided in by Dmitry Arkhipov and Alexander Svitov. Ak Bars finished it at 8-0 with a Fyodor Malykhin goal, made possible by Obukhov and Mikhail Varnakov. The three stars were awarded to Tkachyov, Lukoyanov, and Golubev, while Yarullin and Obukhov get the honorable mentions. The thrashing here earns Ak Bars a decisive game back in Ufa, with the series currently tied at 3. 

Game 7: Ufa Arena, Ufa, Russia. In goal: Emil Garipov for Kazan and Niklas Svedberg for Ufa. Kazan drew first blood in the first period with a Dmitry Arkhipov goal, assisted by Albert Yarullin. Ufa tied it on an Enver Lisin goal, passed from Denis Khlystov and Dmitry Makarov. Salavat Yulaev took the lead with a Maxim Goncharov goal, guided in by Teemu Hartikainen and Lisin. Ufa added on in the second period with a Makarov goal, made possible by Maxim Mayorov. Ak Bars got one back in the third period with a Dmitry Obukhov goal, fueled by Stepan Zakharchuk and Fyodor Malykhin. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars given to Makarov, Lisin, and Svedberg (28 for 30 in saves). Salavat Yulaev finally capped the series, winning 4-3 to advance to face Avangard Omsk in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
