Calgary started in the first period with a Dillon Dube goal, his fourteenth of the season, made possible by Noah Hanifin and Blake Coleman. The Flames added on with a Johnny Gaudreau goal, his thirty-seventh of the year, assisted by Matthew Tkachuk and Nikita Zadorov. Chicago got on the board with a Tyler Johnson goal, his second of the season, via Jonathan Toews and Dominik Kubalik. The Flames shot back with a Coleman goal, his sixteenth of the year, guided in by Oliver Kylington. The Blackhawks got one back in the second period on an Alec Regula goal, with helpers from Jake McCabe and Alex DeBrincat. The Flames replied in the third period with a Gaudreau empty net goal, his second of the game and thirty-eighth of the season, set up by Tkachuk. Florida extended the lead as Anton Lundell scored his seventeenth of the season, thanks to Reinhart. The Panthers padded the lead on a Maxim Mamin goal, his seventh of the year, passed from Eetu Luostarinen and Patric Hornqvist. Florida continued in the third period with a Lundell shorthanded goal, his second of the game and eighteenth of the season, set up by Barkov. The Blackhawks added on in the third period with a Strome goal, his twenty-first of the year, helped along by Jones and DeBrincat. San Jose pulled back with a Rudolfs Balcers goal, his ninth of the season, fueled by Logan Couture and Erik Karlsson. The Sharks tied it with a Jaycob Megna goal, his second of the year, assisted by Meier and Hertl. The tie lasted to a shootout, where DeBrincat's lone tally lifted the Blackhawks to a 5-4 win. The three stars were DeBrincat, Kane, and Strome, while Meier, Hertl, and Jones get the honorable mentions.

Out west, the Colorado Avalanche host the New Jersey Devils. Andrew Hammond and Pavel Francouz are the backups in goal. Colorado dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Logan O'Connor goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Darren Helm and Josh Manson. The Avalanche added on with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his twenty-second of the year, via Artturi Lehkonen and Valeri Nichushkin. Colorado extended the lead as Lehkonen scored his fifteenth of the season on the power play, powered by Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar. New Jersey got on the board in the third period with a Jesper Bratt goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, fueled by Pavel Zacha. The final stayed at 3-1, with the three stars going to Lehkonen, Francouz (26 for 27 in saves), and Burakovsky. 

North to Calgary, where the Flames welcome the Vegas Golden Knights. Logan Thompson is mismatched with Jacob Markstrom in goal. Calgary drew first blood in the first period with a Dillon Dube power play goal, his eleventh of the season, powered by Tyler Toffoli and Mikael Backlund. Vegas tied it on a Jack Eichel goal, his twelfth of the year, assisted by Jonathan Marchessault and Mattias Janmark. The Golden Knights took the lead with an Evgenii Dadonov goal, his nineteenth of the season, with assists provided by Nicolas Roy and William Karlsson. Vegas added on with a Michael Amadio goal, his tenth of the year, coming off of Karlsson. The Golden Knights extended the lead as Marchessault scored his twenty-ninth of the season, thanks to Janmark and Ben Hutton. Dan Vladar replaced Markstrom in goal. Vegas padded the lead on a Roy power play goal, his fourteenth of the year, helped along by Shea Theodore and Marchessault. The Golden Knights continued in the third period with a Karlsson shorthanded goal, his tenth of the campaign, set up by Dadonov. This made it 6-1, the final, with the three stars handed to Marchessault, Karlsson, and Dadonov, while Roy and Janmark get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka and Thatcher Demko man the creases. Vancouver got the first goal in the first period with an Alex Chiasson goal, his eleventh of the season, via J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes. The Canucks added on with a Sheldon Dries power play goal, powered by Brad Hunt and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Vancouver extended the lead in the second period as Elias Pettersson scored his twenty-seventh of the year on the power play, with the help of Hughes and Miller. Arizona got on the board with an Andrew Ladd goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Phil Kessel and Janis Moser. The Canucks answered with a Vasily Podkolzin power play goal, his twelfth of the year, with assists provided by Miller and Hughes. Vancouver padded the lead on a Conor Garland goal, his sixteenth of the season, helped along by Podkolzin. The Canucks continued with a Podkolzin goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the year, made possible by Miller. Vancouver struck again in the third period with a Chiasson goal, his second of the game and twelfth of the season, with helpers from Miller and Tyler Myers. The final was 7-1, with the three stars going to Miller, Podkolzin, and Hughes, while Chiasson gets an honorable mention.

NHL 2021-22 - Day 172

There's three games on today after a weather postponement wiped out the Jets' game versus the Kraken. First up...

The Philadelphia Flyers host the New York Rangers. Alexandar Georgiev and Felix Sandstrom are the backups in goal. New York began in the first period with a Kaapo Kakko goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Barclay Goodrow and K'Andre Miller. The Rangers added on in the second period with a Kakko goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, via Filip Chytil. New York extended the lead as Artemi Panarin scored his twenty-second of the season, thanks to Jacob Trouba. The Rangers iced it at 4-0 with an Andrew Copp empty net shorthanded goal, his eighteenth of the year, set up by Goodrow and Trouba. The three stars belonged to Georgiev (28 save shutout), Kakko, and Goodrow, while Trouba gets an honorable mention.

In Columbus, the Blue Jackets welcome the Montreal Canadiens. Sam Montembeualt and Elvis Merzlikins are the goalies. Columbus led off in the first period with a Jack Roslovic goal, his sixteenth of the season, via Patrik Laine and Vladislav Gavrikov. The Blue Jackets added on in the second period with a Roslovic goal, his second of the game and seventeenth of the year, passed from Laine and Gustav Nyquist. Columbus extended the lead as Laine scored his twenty-sixth of the season on the power play, powered by Nyquist and Jakub Voracek. Montreal got on the board with a Ryan Poehling power play goal, his sixth of the year, with assists provided by Nick Suzuki and Mike Hoffman. The Blue Jackets replied in the third period with a Cole Sillinger goal, his thirteenth of the season, coming off of Emil Bemstrom and Nick Blankenburg. The Blue Jackets padded the lead on a Bemstrom goal, his sixth of the year, with helpers from Voracek and Sillinger. The final was 5-1, with the three stars going to Roslovic, Laine, and Bemstrom, while Sillinger, Nyquist, and Voracek get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Colorado Avalanche bring in the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Darcy Kuemper are the veteran goalies. Colorado struck first in the first period with a Nicolas Aube-Kubel goal, his tenth of the season, assisted by Erik Johnson and Bowen Byram. The Avalanche added on with a Valeri Nichushkin goal, his twentieth of the year, via Byram and Artturi Lehkonen. Colorado extended the lead on a power play goal by Nathan MacKinnon, his twenty-seventh of the season, powered by Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen. The Avalanche padded the lead on another Aube-Kubel goal, his second of the game and eleventh of the year, helped along by Alex Newhook and Devon Toews. Los Angeles got on the board with an Adrian Kempe goal in the second period, his thirty-third of the season, courtesy of Arthur Kaliyev and Troy Stecher. The Kings got closer with an Alex Iafallo goal, his sixteenth of the year, with helpers from Jordan Spence and Blake Lizotte. Colorado replied with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his twenty-first of the season, made possible by MacKinnon. The Avalanche continued with a Makar power play goal, his twenty-sixth of the year, with assists provided by MacKinnon and Lehkonen. Colorado struck again in the third period with a MacKinnon goal, his second of the game and twenty-eighth of the season, fueled by Makar. The Avalanche kept going with a Nichushkin goal, his second of the game and twenty-first of the year, passed from Makar. Colorado piled on with a MacKinnon goal to complete his hat trick on his twenty-ninth of the season, guided in by Burakovsky. Los Angeles got one back with a Phillip Danault goal, his twenty-third of the year, dished from Spence and Trevor Moore. The final was 9-3, with the three stars being MacKinnon, Makar, and Aube-Kubel, while Burakovsky, Nichushkin, Lehkonen, Byram, and Spence get the honorable mentions.
