NHL 2022-23 - Day 8

We're back after a one-day break with nine games on this Monday. First up...

The Boston Bruins host the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Linus Ullmark man the nets. Boston opened in the first period with an unassisted Jake DeBrusk goal. Florida tied it in the second period with a Sam Bennett goal, guided in by Matthew Tkachuk and Rudolfs Balcers. The Bruins retook the lead on a Patrice Bergeron goal, his second of the season, assisted by DeBrusk. Boston added on in the third period with a David Pastrnak goal, his second of the year, helped along by Bergeron and Connor Clifton. The Bruins extended the lead as Trent Frederic scored, thanks to A.J. Greer and Clifton. The Panthers got one back with a Gustav Forsling goal, coming off of Colin White and Eetu Luostarinen. Florida got closer with a White goal, his second of the season, passed from Forsling and Carter Verhaeghe. Boston iced it at 5-3 with an empty net goal by DeBrusk, his second of the game, an unassisted goal. The three stars were DeBrusk, Bergeron, and Forsling, while Clifton and White get the honorable mentions.

Along to Detroit, as the Red Wings welcome the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Ville Husso are the masked men. Detroit started in the first period with an Adam Erne goal, via Pius Suter and Olli Maatta. Los Angeles tied it on a Gabriel Vilardi goal, his third of the season, coming off of Alex Iafallo and Drew Doughty. The Kings pulled ahead with an Adrian Kempe goal, his fourth of the year, passed from Kevin Fiala and Anze Kopitar. The Red Wings tied it on a David Perron goal, his second of the season, assisted by Dominik Kubalik and Maatta. Los Angeles regained the lead with a Phillip Danault goal, courtesy of Trevor Moore and Sean Durzi. Detroit tied it in the third period with a Perron power play goal, his second of the game and third of the year, powered by Filip Hronek and Oskar Sundqvist. The Kings retook the lead with a Kopitar goal, made possible by Kempe and Fiala. The Red Wings evened the score with a Sundqvist goal, with helpers from Perron and Kubalik. Los Angeles won 5-4 in overtime with a Danault goal, his second of the game, with a lone assist by Moore. The three stars were Danault, Kempe, and Kopitar, while Perron, Sundqvist, Fiala, Moore, Kubalik and Maatta get the honorable mentions.

Next up, the Montreal Canadiens bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Casey DeSmith and Sam Montembeault are the backups in goal. Pittsburgh led off in the first period with an Evgeni Malkin goal, his second of the season, assisted by Marcus Pettersson and Bryan Rust. The Penguins added on with another Malkin goal, his second of the game and third of the year, with helpers from Rust and Pierre-Olivier Joseph. Montreal got on the board in the third period with a Nick Suzuki goal, his second of the year, via Kaiden Guhle and Mike Hoffman. The Canadiens tied it with a Cole Caufield goal, his third of the season, coming off of Jonathan Drouin and Guhle. Montreal won 3-2 in overtime with a Kirby Dach power play goal, powered by Sean Monahan and Suzuki. The three stars were Suzuki, Malkin, and Guhle, while Rust gets an honorable mention.

Back stateside, the New York Rangers host the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Igor Shesterkin guard the cages. New York began in the first period with a Vincent Trocheck power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin. The Rangers added on with a Zibanejad power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Trocheck and Panarin. Anaheim got on the board with a Frank Vatrano goal, his second of the season, coming off of Pavol Regenda and Isac Lundestrom. The Ducks tied it in the second period with a Trevor Zegras goal, his second of the year, via Troy Terry and Dmitry Kulikov. New York regained the lead on a Kaapo Kakko goal, his second of the season, passed from Zibanejad and Adam Fox. The Rangers extended the lead as Alexis Lafreniere scored, thanks to Filip Chytil and Jacob Trouba. New York padded the lead on a Panarin goal, his second of the year, helped along by Fox and Ryan Lindgren. Anthony Stolarz replaced Gibson in goal. Anaheim got one back with a Max Comtois goal in the third period, guided in by Kevin Shattenkirk and Terry. The Rangers fired back with Zibanejad goal, his second of the game and fourth of the season, made possible by Panarin and Fox. The Ducks pulled one back on a Derek Grant goal, made possible by Max Jones and Regenda. The final held at 6-4, with the three stars going to Zibanejad, Panarin, and Fox, while Trocheck, Terry, and Regenda get the honorable mentions.

In Canada again, the Toronto Maple Leafs welcome the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka and Erik Kallgren receive the starts in goal. Arizona struck first in the first period with a Nick Ritchie power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Shayne Gostisbehere and J.J. Moser. The Coyotes added on in the second period with a Christian Fischer goal, via Nick Bjugstad. Toronto got on the board in the third period with a William Nylander power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by John Tavares and Morgan Rielly. The Maple Leafs tied it on a Mitchell Marner goal, going in unassisted. Arizona regained the lead with a Gostisbehere power play goal, his second of the season, helped along by Clayton Keller and Ritchie. The Coyotes iced it at 4-2 with an empty net goal by Lawson Crouse, set up by Fischer. The three stars were Gostisbehere, Ritchie, and Fischer.

South again to DC, as the Washington Capitals bring in the Vancouver Canucks. Darcy Kuemper and Thatcher Demko tend the twines. Washington kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Alex Ovechkin power play goal, powered by Marcus Johansson and Dylan Strome. Vancouver tied it on an Elias Pettersson goal, his second of the season, coming off of Quinn Hughes and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Capitals retook the lead with a Lars Eller goal, via Martin Fehervary in the second period. The Canucks retied it on a Bo Horvat goal, courtesy of Tanner Pearson and Brock Boeser. Vancouver pulled ahead with a Curtis Lazar goal, helped along by Andrei Kuzmenko and Pettersson. The Canucks added on with a J.T. Miller power play goal, his second of the year, with assists provided by Hughes and Pettersson. Washington got one back with a Strome power play goal, fueled by John Carlson and Johansson in the third period. The Capitals tied it with a Carlson goal, guided in by Ovechkin and Evgent Kuznetsov. Washington gained the lead with a Conor Sheary goal, his third of the season, assisted by Ovechkin and Kuznetsov. The Capitals extended the lead as Ovechkin scored his second of the game, with the help of Kuznetsov and Nick Jensen. The final held at 6-4, with the three stars awarded to Ovechkin, Carlson, and Kuznetsov, while Pettersson, Strome, Johansson, and Hughes get the honorable mentions.

Out west, the Minnesota Wild host the Colorado Avalanche. Alexandar Georgiev faces a lesser foe in Filip Gustavsson in goal. Colorado was first to score in the first period with a Ben Meyers goal, via Erik Johnson and Samuel Girard. Minnesota tied it on a Kirill Kaprizov goal, his second of the season, assisted by Calen Addison and Tyson Jost. The Avalanche retook the lead with a Girard goal, fueled by Nathan MacKinnon and Valeri Nichushkin. The Wild tied it again in the second period with a Joel Eriksson Ek power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Addison and Matt Boldy. Colorado pulled ahead on a Mikko Rantanen goal, guided in by MacKinnon and Cale Makar. The Avalanche added on in the third period with a Josh Manson goal, coming off of Andrew Cogliano and J.T. Compher. Minnesota shot back on a Kaprizov power play goal, his second of the game and third of the season, with assists provided by Addison and Mats Zuccarello. Colorado fired back with a MacKinnon power play goal, his second of the year, with helpers from Makar and Nichushkin. The Avalanche iced it at 6-3 with a Nichushkin empty net goal, going in unassisted. Down in Dallas, the Stars welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger protect the nets. Winnipeg drew first blood in the first period with a Mark Scheifele goal, his third of the season, coming off of Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers. Dallas tied it on a Tyler Seguin goal, via Ty Dellandrea and Mason Marchment. The Stars took the lead in the second period with a Jani Hakanpaa goal, assisted by Ryan Suter and Marchment. Dallas added on with a Joel Kiviranta goal, courtesy of Esa Lindell. The Stars extended the lead in the third period on a Miro Heiskanen power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson. This stood for a 4-1 win, with the three stars handed to Oettinger (23 for 24 in saves), Marchment, and Hakanpaa.

Finally, the Seattle Kraken bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen and Philipp Grubauer are between the pipes. Carolina cracked the scoresheet in the first period with a Seth Jarvis goal, his second of the season, via Sebastian Aho and Brady Skjei. The Hurricanes added on with an Aho power play goal in the second period, his second of the year, powered by Andrei Svechnikov and Brent Burns. Seattle got on the board with an Andre Burakovsky power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Jordan Eberle and Jared McCann. Carolina replied with a Svechnikov power play goal, his second of the year, helped along by Aho and Stefan Noesen. The Hurricanes extended the lead as Svechnikov scored his second of the game and third of the season, thanks to Martin Necas. Carolina finished it at 5-1 with a Jordan Martinook goal, with helpers from Noesen and Jaccob Slavin in the third period. The three stars were Svechnikov, Aho, and Noesen.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 7

It's Saturday, so that means a ton of games. There's 14 on this time, beginning with...

The Buffalo Sabres welcoming the Florida Panthers. Spencer Knight and Eric Comrie are in goal. Buffalo led off in the first period with an Alex Tuch goal, assisted by Henri Jokiharju and the goalie Comrie. Florida tied it on a Colin White goal, via Eetu Luostarinen and Anton Lundell. The Panthers took the lead with a Matthew Tkachuk goial, his second of the season, made possible by Gustav Forsling. The Sabres tied it again with a Zemgus Girgensons goal, courtesy of JJ Peterka and Rasmus Dahlin. Florida regained the lead in the second period with an Aaron Ekblad goal, coming off of Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart. The Panthers added on with a Brandon Montour power play goal, powered by Tkachuk and Barkov. Buffalo got one back with a Dahlin goal, his second of the year, with a lone assist by Tuch. This made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars being Tkachuk, Dahlin, and Tuch, while Barkov gets an honorable mention. 

Along to Philadelphia, as the Flyers bring in the Vancouver Canucks. Thatcher Demko and Carter Hart man the nets. Vancouver began in the first period with a Kyle Burroughs goal, fueled by Brock Boeser and Tanner Pearson. The Canucks added on with a Conor Garland goal, via Vasily Podkolzin and Luke Schenn. Philadelphia got on the board with a Tony DeAngelo power play goal in the second period, powered by James van Riemsdyk and Kevin Hayes. The Flyers tied it on a Scott Laughton shorthanded goal, set up by Travis Konecny. Philadelphia took the lead in the third period with a Konecny goal, his third of the season, coming off of Ivan Provorov and DeAngelo. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars being Konecny, DeAngelo, and Laughton.

The Red Wings added on with a Larkin goal, helped along by Andrew Copp and Filip Hronek. Detroit extended the lead in the third period as Dominik Kubalik scored, thanks to Raymond and Larkin. Pittsburgh added on in the third period with a Guentzel goal, his second of the season, passed from Kris Letang and Crosby. The Stars answered in the third period with a Robertson goal, with helpers from Hintz and Pavelski. Dallas extended the lead with a Mason Marchment empty net goal, his third of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars were Hintz, Robertson, and Heiskanen, while Pavelski gets an honorable mention.

Northwest to Edmonton, as the Oilers host the Calgary Flames. Dan Vladar and Jack Campbell draw the starts in goal. Calgary led off in the first period with a Mikael Backlund goal, assisted by Michael Stone and Blake Coleman. Edmonton tied it on a Cody Ceci goal, via Kailer Yamamoto and Leon Draisaitl. The Flames retook the lead with a Stone goal, helped along by Kevin Rooney. Calgary added on with a Nazem Kadri goal, coming off of Stone on the power play. The Flames extended the lead as Andrew Mangiapane scored, thanks to Kadri and Dillon Dube. The Oilers got one back in the second period with a Connor McDavid power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Evander Kane and Draisaitl. Edmonton got closer with a Ryan McLeod goal, courtesy of Ryan Murray. This only made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars being Stone, Kadri, and Draisaitl.

In Seattle, the Kraken welcome the Vegas Golden Knights. Adin Hill and Martin Jones are the backups in goal. Vegas began in the first period with a Keegan Kolesar goal, guided in by William Carrier. The Golden Knights added on with a Jonathan Marchessault power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Nicolas Roy and Alex Pietrangelo. Vegas extended the lead in the second period as Reilly Smith scored on the power play, thanks to Mark Stone and Jack Eichel. The Golden Knights padded the lead on a Marchessault goal, his second of the game and third of the year, via Chandler Stephenson and Shea Theodore. Vegas continued with a Theodore goal, guided in by Phil Kessel and Eichel. Philipp Grubauer took over for Jones in goal for the third period. Seattle got on the board in the third period with a Justin Schultz goal, courtesy of Andre Burakovsky and Matty Beniers. Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Chicago Blackhawks. Petr Mrazek and Kaapo Kahkonen have the green light to start in goal. San Jose struck first in the first period with a Nico Sturm goal, fueled by Erik Karlsson and Mario Ferraro. The Sharks added on with a Karlsson goal, assisted by Logan Couture and Steven Lorentz. Chicago got on the board in the second period with a Jonathan Toews goal, his second of the season, guided in by Tyler Johnson and Taylor Raddysh. The Blackhawks tied it on a Sam Lafferty shorthanded goal, set up by Jason Dickinson and Jack Johnson. Chicago pulled ahead with another Lafferty shorthanded goal, his second of the game, via Dickinson and Seth Jones. The Blackhawks extended the lead as Raddysh scored, thanks to Tyler Johnson. Chicago padded the lead on a Dickinson goal, made possible by Philipp Kurashev and Lafferty. NHL 2022-23 - Day 6

A light four-game Friday is up, beginning with...

The Detroit Red Wings hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Jake Allen and Ville Husso are the goalies. Detroit dented the scoreboard in the third period with an Elmer Soderblom goal, assisted by Michael Rasmussen and Oskar Sundqvist. The Red Wings added on with a Rasmussen empty net goal, set up by Andrew Copp and Dylan Larkin. Detroit finished it at 3-0 with an Olli Maatta empty net goal, courtesy of Rasmussen and Sundqvist. The three stars were Husso (29 save shutout), Rasmussen, and Sundqvist.

Along to Columbus, as the Blue Jackets welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Daniil Tarasov start in goal. Columbus led off in the first period with a Johnny Gaudreau goal, assisted by Justin Danforth and Boone Jenner. Tampa Bay tied it on a Corey Perry power play goal, powered by Vladislav Namestnikov and Mikhail Sergachev. The Lightning took the lead with a Steven Stamkos goal, his second of the season, via Alex Killorn and Haydn Fleury. The Lightning added on with a Cal Foote goal in the second period, made possible by Colton and Namestnikov. Tampa Bay extended the lead in the third period as Stamkos scored his second of the game and third of the year, with helpers from Sergachev and Killorn. This stood for a 5-2 win, with the three stars being Stamkos, Perry, and Colton, while Sergachev, Killorn, and Namestnikov get the honorable mentions. 

Northwest to Winnipeg, where the Jets bring in the New York Rangers. Jaroslav Halak and Connor Hellebuyck man the nets. Winnipeg began in the first period with a Mark Scheifele goal, assisted by Nikolaj Ehlers and Josh Morrissey. New York tied it in the third period with a Dryden Hunt goal, fueled by Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin. The Jets took the lead with a Sam Gagner goal, coming off of Saku Maenalanen and David Gustafsson. Winnipeg added on with a Scheifele power play goal, his second of the game, powered by Pierre-Luc Dubois and Ehlers. The Jets iced it at 4-1 with a Kyle Connor empty net goal, set up by Blake Wheeler. The three stars were Scheifele, Hellebuyck (40 for 41 in saves), and Ehlers. 

Finally, the San Jose Sharks host the Carolina Hurricanes. Antti Raanta and James Reimer are in the creases. San Jose kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Evgeny Svechnikov goal, assisted by Jaycob Megna and Erik Karlsson. Carolina tied it in the second period with a Martin Necas goal, his second of the season, fueled by Andrei Svechnikov. The Hurricanes took the lead in the third period with a Sebastian Aho goal, guided in by Brett Pesce and Teuvo Teravainen. This stood for a 2-1 win, with the three stars going to Aho, Raanta (18 for 19 in saves), and Necas.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 5

We've got 10 games on for the first big day of the season. First up...

The Buffalo Sabres host the Ottawa Senators. Anton Forsberg and Craig Anderson are the goalies. Ottawa opened in the first period with a Brady Tkachuk goal, assisted by Drake Batherson and Erik Brannstrom. Buffalo tied it in the second period with a JJ Peterka goal, coming off of Dylan Cozens. The Sabres took the lead with a Rasmus Dahlin goal, courtesy of Peyton Krebs and Kyle Okposo. Buffalo added on in the third period with a Victor Olofsson empty net goal, going in unassisted. The Sabres iced it at 4-1 with another Olofsson empty net goal, his second of the game, set up by Ilya Lyubushkin. The three stars were Olofsson, Dahlin, and Peterka.

Down in Philadelphia, the Flyers welcome the New Jersey Devils. Mackenzie Blackwood and Carter Hart man the nets. New Jersey began in the first period with an Alexander Holtz power play goal, powered by Jesper Bratt and Dawson Mercer. Philadelphia tied it on a Wade Allison goal, coming off of Ivan Provorov and Tony DeAngelo. The Flyers pulled ahead in the second period with a Travis Konecny goal, made possible by Kevin Hayes and Provorov. Philadelphia added on with a Morgan Frost goal, via Tanner Laczynski and James van Riemsdyk. The Flyers extended the lead in the third period as Konecny scored his second goal of the game on the power play, thanks to Hayes and DeAngelo. The Devils got one back with a Damon Severson goal, helped along by Bratt. Philadelphia iced it at 5-2 with a Frost empty net goal, his second of the game, going in unassisted. The three stars were Konecny, Frost, and Provorov, while DeAngelo, Hayes, and Bratt get the honorable mentions.

Across Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Penguins bring in the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka and Tristan Jarry are the masked men. Pittsburgh led off with a Sidney Crosby goal, coming off of Jake Guentzel and Kris Letang. The Penguins added on with a Jason Zucker goal, via Danton Heinen and Jeff Petry. Pittsburgh extended the lead on a Guentzel power play goal, powered by Bryan Rust and Crosby. Arizona got on the board in the second period with a Nick Ritchie power play goal, with assists provided by Shayne Gostisbehere and J.J. Moser. The Penguins fired back with an Evgeni Malkin power play goal, helped along by Crosby and Letang. The Coyotes pulled one back in the third period with another Ritchie power play goal, with helpers from Gostisbehere and Moser. Pittsburgh answered with a Rust goal, passed from Zucker and Marcus Pettersson. The Penguins padded the lead on a Kasperi Kapanen goal, courtesy of Heinen and Jeff Carter. The final stayed at 6-2, with the three stars handed to Crosby, Guentzel, and Ritchie, while Rust, Zucker, Heinen, Letang, Gostisbehere, and Moser get the honorable mentions.

In Canada, the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Washington Capitals. Charlie Lindgren and Ilya Samsonov are set to start in goal. Toronto started in the first period with a John Tavares power play goal, powered by Morgan Rielly and Mitchell Marner. Washington tied it on a Nic Dowd goal, via Erik Gustafsson and Trevor van Riemsdyk. The Capitals took the lead with a Marcus Johansson goal, courtesy of T.J. Oshie and Lars Eller. The Maple Leafs tied it in the second period with a Calle Jarnkrok goal, assisted by Alexander Kerfoot and Rielly. Toronto pulled ahead in the third period with an Auston Matthews goal, coming off of Mark Giordano and Rasmus Sandin. This held for a 3-2 win, with the three stars handed to Rielly, Matthews, and Giordano.

Back stateside, the New York Islanders welcome the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Ilya Sorokin are the Russian goalies. Florida got going in the second period with an Eetu Luostarinen goal, made possible by Radko Gudas and Colin White. New York tied it in the third period with a Noah Dobson power play goal, powered by Brock Nelson and Mathew Barzal. The Panthers retook the lead with a Patric Hornqvist goal, coming off of Ryan Lomberg. Florida iced it at 3-1 with a Matthew Tkachuk empty net goal, going in unassisted. The three stars were Hornqvist, Bobrovsky (31 for 32 in saves), and Luostarinen.

Over in Minnesota, the Wild bring in the New York Rangers. Igor Shesterkin and Marc-Andre Fleury guard the cages. New York struck first in the first period with a Chris Kreider power play goal, powered by Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin. The Rangers added on with an Adam Fox goal, assisted by Alexis Lafreniere and Panarin. New York extended the lead as Panarin scored, thanks to Lafreniere and Vincent Trocheck. Minnesota got on the board in the second period with a Mats Zuccarello power play goal, with assists provided by Kirill Kaprizov and Marcus Foligno. The Rangers replied with a Filip Chytil goal, via Fox and Barclay Goodrow. New York padded the lead on a Trocheck goal, fueled by Panarin. The Wild got one back with a Matt Boldy goal, guided in by Jacob Middleton. The Rangers replied with a Kaapo Kakko goal, an unassisted goal. The Wild replied with Boldy's second goal of the game, with helpers from Matt Dumba. New York fired back with a Kreider goal, his second of the game, passed from K'Andre Miller and Zibanejad. This made it 7-3, the final, with the three stars given to Kreider, Boldy, and Panarin, while Fox, Trocheck, Zibanejad, and Lafreniere get the honorable mentions.

South to Nashville, as the Predators host the Dallas Stars. Jake Oettinger and Juuse Saros tend the twines. Dallas was first to score in the first period with a Mason Marchment goal, guided in by Tyler Seguin. The Stars added on with a Marchment power play goal, his second of the game, powered by Nils Lundkvist and Seguin. Dallas extended the lead in the second period as Joe Pavelski scored, thanks to Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson. The Stars padded the lead in the third period with a Wyatt Johnston goal, coming off of Seguin and Ryan Suter on the power play. Nashville got on the board with a Ryan Johansen goal, assisted by Eeli Tolvanen. The final held at 4-1, with the three stars belonging to Marchment, Seguin, and Johnston.

Northwest to Calgary, as the Flames welcome the Colorado Avalanche. Pavel Francouz and Jacob Markstrom are in the creases. Colorado kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Bowen Byram goal, assisted by Devon Toews and Nathan MacKinnon. Calgary tied it on a Brett Ritchie goal, via Milan Lucic and MacKenzie Weegar. The Flames took the lead with a Dillon Dube shorthanded goal, set up by Andrew Mangiapane. Calgary added on with a Rasmus Andersson goal, coming off of Weegar. The Flames extended the lead in the third period as Tyler Toffoli scored on the power play, powered by Nazem Kadri and Andersson. Calgary padded the lead on an Elias Lindholm power play goal, with an assist provided by Jonathan Huberdeau. The Avalanche got one back with a MacKinnon goal, fueled by the goalie Francouz. Colorado got closer with a Valeri Nichushkin power play goal, his third of the season, with helpers from Mikko Rantanen and Artturi Lehkonen. This was as close as it got, with the three stars of the 5-3 game being Andersson, MacKinnon, and Weegar.

Back south, the Vegas Golden Knights bring in the Chicago Blackhawks. Alex Stalock is mismatched with Logan Thompson in goal. Vegas dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Paul Cotter goal, via Zach Whitecloud. This held up for a 1-0 win, with the three stars awarded to Thompson (27 save shutout), Cotter, and Stalock (36 for 37 in saves).

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the Seattle Kraken. Martin Jones and Jonathan Quick are the veteran goalies. Seattle drew first blood in the first period with a Jaden Schwartz power play goal, powered by Jordan Eberle and Andre Burakovsky. Los Angeles tied it on an Alex Iafallo power play goal, going in unassisted. The Kraken regained the lead in the second period with a Brandon Tanev goal, via Will Borgen. Seattle added on with an Alexander Wennberg goal, helped along by Matty Beniers and Oliver Bjorkstrand. The Kraken finished it at 4-1 with an Adam Larsson shorthanded empty net goal, an unassisted tally. The three stars were Jones (26 for 27 in saves), Tanev, and Wennberg.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 4

The season kicks it up a notch on Wednesday with six games. First up...

The Carolina Hurricanes host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Daniil Tarasov and Frederik Andersen are the goalies. Columbus got going in the second period with a Patrik Laine goal, assisted by Zach Werenski. Carolina tied it on a Seth Jarvis goal, going in unassisted. The Hurricanes took the lead with a Brady Skjei goal, coming off of Martin Necas and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Carolina added on with a Necas goal in the third period, helped along by Derek Stepan and Jordan Martinook. The Hurricanes extended the lead as Andrei Svechnikov scored, thanks to Necas and Paul Stastny. The final stood at 4-1, with the three stars going to Necas, Andersen (31 for 32 in saves), and Skjei.

In Montreal, the Canadiens welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs. Matt Murray and Jake Allen protect the nets. Toronto led off in the first period with a Michael Bunting goal, coming off of Mitchell Marner and T.J. Brodie. Montreal tied it in the second period with a Cole Caufield goal, via Nick Suzuki and David Savard. The Maple Leafs retook the lead with a Denis Malgin goal, assisted by John Tavares and William Nylander. The Canadiens tied it on another Caufield goal, going in unassisted. Montreal pulled ahead in the third period with a Sean Monahan goal, helped along by Jordan Harris and Kirby Dach. Toronto tied it on a Nylander goal, courtesy of Tavares and Morgan Rielly. The Canadiens reclaimed the lead with a Josh Anderson goal, fueled by Suzuki. This stood for a 4-3 win, with the three stars going to Caufield, Suzuki, and Nylander, while Tavares gets an honorable mention.

Stateside again to DC, as the Washington Capitals bring in the Boston Bruins. Linus Ullmark and Darcy Kuemper are the masked men. Boston began in the first period with a Patrice Bergeron power play goal, powered by David Pastrnak and David Krejci. The Bruins added on with a Pastrnak goal, via Krejci and Connor Clifton. Boston extended the lead in the second period as Taylor Hall scored, with the help of Pastrnak and Mike Reilly. Washington got on the board with an Anthony Mantha goal, courtesy of Dylan Strome and Erik Gustafsson. The Capitals got closer with a Conor Sheary goal, fueled by Nic Dowd. The Bruins replied in the third period with a Krejci goal, made possible by Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha. Boston iced it at 5-2 with a Hampus Lindholm empty net goal, going in unassisted. The three stars were Pastrnak, Krejci, and Hall. 

Out in Colorado, the Avalanche host the Chicago Blackhawks. Petr Mrazek and Alexandar Georgiev are between the pipes. Colorado struck first in the first period with an Andrew Cogliano goal, assisted by Nathan MacKinnon and Devon Toews. Chicago tied it with a Jonathan Toews power play goal, powered by Philipp Kurashev and Andreas Athanasiou. The Avalanche retook the lead with a Valeri Nichushkin power play goal, with assists provided by Mikko Rantanen and Artturi Lehkonen. Colorado added on with a Lehkonen goal, coming off of Rantanen and MacKinnon on the power play. The Avalanche extended the lead as Lehkonen scored another power play goal, thanks to Rantanen and Cale Makar. The Blackhawks pulled one back with a Max Domi power play goal in the third period, guided in by Tyler Johnson and Patrick Kane. Colorado fired back with a power play goal by Nichushkin, his second of the game, helped along by Makar and Rantanen. The final stood at 5-2, with the three stars awarded to Rantanen, Lehkonen, and Nichushkin, while MacKinnon and Makar get the honorable mentions.

Up in Edmonton, the Oilers welcome the Vancouver Canucks. Thatcher Demko and Jack Campbell guard the cages. Vancouver started in the first period with an Elias Pettersson unassisted goal. The Canucks added on with a J.T. Miller goal, via Brock Boeser and Quinn Hughes. Vancouver extended the lead in the second period as Andrei Kuzmenko scored on the power play, with the help of Miller and Bo Horvat. Edmonton got on the board with a Leon Draisaitl power play goal, courtesy of Connor McDavid and Tyson Barrie. The Oilers got closer with a McDavid power play goal, with helpers from Draisaitl and Zach Hyman. Edmonton tied it with a Darnell Nurse shorthanded goal, set up by Draisaitl. The Oilers gained the lead in the third period with another McDavid goal, his second of the game, guided in by Hyman. Edmonton iced it at 5-3 with a McDavid power play empty net goal to complete his hat trick, fueled by Evander Kane and Nurse. The three stars went to McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nurse, while Miller and Hyman were the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Anaheim Ducks bring in the Seattle Kraken. Philipp Grubauer and John Gibson are in the creases. Anaheim opened in the first period with a Troy Terry goal, assisted by Mason McTavish and Ryan Strome. Seattle tied it on a Jared McCann power play goal, powered by Matty Beniers and Justin Schultz. The Kraken took the lead in the second period with an Andre Burakovsky power play goal, with assists provided by Vince Dunn. Seattle added on with an Oliver Bjorkstrand power play goal, helped along by Schultz and Ryan Donato. The Ducks got one back with a Strome power play goal, coming off of McTavish and Trevor Zegras. The Kraken answered in the third period with a Beniers goal, via Jaden Schwartz and Carson Soucy. Anaheim pulled one back on a Frank Vatrano goal, made possible by Strome and John Klingberg. The Ducks tied it with a Zegras power play goal, with helpers from Terry and Klingberg. Anaheim won 5-4 in overtime on a Terry goal, his second of the game, set up by Gibson. The three stars were Terry, Strome, and Zegras, while Beniers, McTavish, Klingberg, and Schultz get the honorable mentions.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 3

The first day of NHL action in North America is here, with a pair of games on. First up...

The New York Rangers welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Igor Shesterkin tend the twines. New York got going in the second period on a Mika Zibanejad shorthanded goal, set up by Jacob Trouba and K'Andre Miller. Tampa Bay tied it on a Steven Stamkos power play goal, powered by Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point. The Rangers retook the lead in the third period on another Zibanejad goal in the third period, a power play goal, via Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider. New York added on with a Barclay Goodrow goal, assisted by Ryan Lindgren and Ryan Carpenter. The final stood at 3-1, with the three stars going to Zibanejad, Shesterkin (25 for 26 in saves), and Goodrow.

Out west, the Los Angeles Kings bring in the Vegas Golden Knights. Logan Thompson and Jonathan Quick make the starts in goal. Los Angeles struck first in the first period with a Gabriel Vilardi goal, courtesy of Quinton Byfield and Alex Iafallo. Vegas tied it in the second period on a Jonathan Marchessault goal, fueled by William Karlsson. The Golden Knights took the lead in the third period with a Jack Eichel goal, guided in by Chandler Stephenson and Reilly Smith. The Kings tied it on an Adrian Kempe goal, assisted by Anze Kopitar and Sean Durzi. Vegas retook the lead with a Karlsson goal, helped along by Alex Pietrangelo and Nicolas Roy. Los Angeles retied it on an Arthur Kaliyev goal, made possible by Trevor Moore and Vilardi. The Golden Knights reclaimed the lead with a Mark Stone goal, via Stephenson and Pietrangelo. The final held at 4-3, with the three stars given to Karlsson, Stephenson, and Pietrangelo, while Vilardi gets the honorable mention.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 2

We're back again from Prague, as the San Jose Sharks get their turn to play as host against the Nashville Predators. Kevin Lankinen and Kaapo Kahkonen are the backups in goal. San Jose started in the first period with a Luke Kunin power play goal, powered by Oskar Lindblom and Mario Ferraro. Nashville tied it on a Nino Niederreiter goal, his second of the season, assisted by Ryan Johansen and Roman Josi in the second period. The Sharks pulled ahead again with a Logan Couture goal, via Steven Lorentz and Ferraro. The Predators retied it on a Filip Forsberg goal, coming off of Matt Duchene and Mikael Granlund. Nashville took the lead with a Niederreiter goal, his second of the game and third of the year, passed from Eeli Tolvanen and Ryan McDonagh. This held for the eventual 3-2 final score, with the three stars handed to Niederreiter, Ferraro, and Forsberg.
