NHL 2022-23 - Day 46

After the Thanksgiving break, Friday rolls with 13 games. First up...

The Boston Bruins host the Carolina Hurricanes. Pyotr Kochetkov and Linus Ullmark are the goalies. Carolina led off in the first period with a Stefan Noesen power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov. The Hurricanes added on with a Jesperi Kotkaniemi power play goal, his second of the year, with assists provided by Seth Jarvis and Brett Pesce. Boston got on the board with a David Krejci goal, in the second period, his seventh of the season, via David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha. Jeremy Swayman replaced an injured Ullmark in the third period. The Bruins tied it in the third period with another Krejci goal, his second of the game and eighth of the year, guided in by Zacha and Nick Foligno. Boston won 3-2 in overtime with a Pastrnak goal, his fourteenth of the campaign, fueled by Brad Marchand on the power play. The three stars were Pastrnak, Krejci, and Zacha.

Down in DC, the Washington Capitals welcome the Calgary Flames. Jacob Markstrom and Darcy Kuemper tend the twines. Washington began in the first period with a T.J. Oshie goal, his third of the season, coming off of Erik Gustafsson and Alex Ovechkin. The Capitals added on in the second period with an Evgeny Kuznetsov goal, his third of the year, via Oshie and Sonny Milano. Washington extended the lead in the third period as Ovechkin scored his eleventh of the season on the power play, thanks to Conor Sheary and Milano. The final held at 3-0, with the three stars awarded to Kuemper (32 save shutout), Oshie, and Ovechkin, while Milano gets an honorable mention.

Out west, the Chicago Blackhawks bring in the Montreal Canadiens. Sam Montembeault and Arvid Soderblom are the backups in goal. Montreal opened in the first period with a Joel Edmundson goal, via Sean Monahan. Chicago tied it in the second period with a Caleb Jones goal, assisted by Jason Dickinson and Jujhar Khaira. The Canadiens retook the lead with a Nick Suzuki power play goal, his twelfth of the season, powered by Mike Matheson and Monahan. The Blackhawks tied it in the third period with a Taylor Raddysh power play goal, his fifth of the year, with assists provided by Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. The tie went to a shootout, where Cole Caufield, Suzuki, and Kirby Dach lifted the Canadiens to a 3-2 win over Toews, Andreas Athanasiou, and the Blackhawks. The three stars were Monahan, Suzuki, and Toews.

To Minnesota, as the Wild host the Toronto Maple Leafs. Matt Murray and Marc-Andre Fleury man the nets. Toronto started in the first period with a Mitchell Marner goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Timothy Liljegren and John Tavares. Minnesota tied it on a Kirill Kaprizov power play goal, his twelfth of the year, powered by Joel Eriksson Ek and Mats Zuccarello. The Maple Leafs took the lead back on a Zach Aston-Reese goal, his third of the season, via Pierre Engvall. The Wild tied it in the second period with a Matt Boldy goal, his eighth of the year, passed from Alex Goligoski and Jordan Greenway. Toronto retook the lead with a Calle Jarnkrok goal, his fifth of the season, made possible by Mark Giordano and Tavares. The Maple Leafs added on in the third period with a William Nylander goal, his twelfth of the year, helped along by Michael Bunting and Victor Mete. Minnesota got one back with a Zuccarello goal, his seventh of the season, with helpers from Kaprizov and Goligoski. This only made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars being Kaprizov, Zuccarello, and Tavares, while Goligoski gets an honorable mention.

Next up, the Anaheim Ducks welcome the Ottawa Senators. Cam Talbot and Anthony Stolarz draw the starts in goal. Ottawa struck first in the first period with a Brady Tkachuk power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Drake Batherson and Thomas Chabot. The Senators added on with a Derick Brassard goal, his third of the year, guided in by Mathieu Joseph and Jake Sanderson. Ottawa extended the lead in the second period as Tim Stutzle scored his eighth of the season on the power play, thanks to Alex DeBrincat and Batherson. The Senators padded the lead on an Artem Zub goal, his second of the year, made possible by Brassard and Joseph. Ottawa continued in the third period with a Joseph power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Brassard and Shane Pinto. Anaheim got on the board with a Max Jones goal, his second of the year, fueled by Colton White and Nathan Beaulieu. Back east, the Philadelphia Flyers bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Carter Hart are the masked men. The Penguins added on with a Sidney Crosby goal, his eleventh of the year, courtesy of Marcus Pettersson and Kris Letang. Pittsburgh extended the lead as Ryan Poehling scored his third of the season in the second period, with the help of Blueger and Jeff Petry. The Penguins padded the lead on another Poehling goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, made possible by Blueger and Archibald. Felix Sandstrom replaced Hart in goal. Philadelphia got on the board in the third period with a Kevin Hayes goal, his sixth of the season, guided in by Nicolas Deslauriers and Travis Sanheim. The final stood at 4-1, with the three stars going to Poehling, Blueger, and Archibald.

In Buffalo, the Sabres host the New Jersey Devils. Akira Schmid and Craig Anderson get the starting nods in goal. New Jersey got going in the second period with a Jack Hughes goal, his eighth of the season, via Dawson Mercer and Erik Haula. The Devils added on with a Jesper Boqvist goal, his third of the year, guided in by Yegor Sharangovich. Buffalo got on the board with a Victor Olofsson goal, his eleventh of the season, passed from Casey Mittelstadt and Henri Jokiharju. New Jersey replied with a Tomas Tatar goal, his fifth of the year, fueled by Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt. This made it 3-1, the eventual final, with the three stars going to Schmid (33 for 34 in saves), Boqvist, and Tatar.

Westward to Detroit, as the Red Wings welcome the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka and Ville Husso are in the creases. Detroit was first to score in the first period with an Andrew Copp power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Lucas Raymond and Filip Hronek. The Red Wings added on in the second period with a Hronek power play goal, his sixth of the year, with assists provided by Jonatan Berggren and Tyler Bertuzzi. Arizona got on the board with a Nick Schmaltz goal, his second of the season, passed from Jakob Chychrun. Detroit fired back on a Jordan Oesterle goal, coming off of Bertuzzi and Raymond. The Coyotes pulled one back with a J.J. Moser goal, his second of the year, guided in by Clayton Keller and Schmaltz. Arizona tied it in the third period with a Chychrun goal, fueled by Shayne Gostisbehere and Schmaltz. The tie went to a shootout, where Dylan Larkin's lone tally gave the Red Wings a 4-3 win. The three stars were Hronek, Schmaltz, and Chychrun, while Bertuzzi and Raymond get the honorable mentions.

Down in Tampa Bay, the Lightning bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Andrei Vasilevskiy protect the nets. Tampa Bay drew first blood in the first period with a Brayden Point goal, his seventh of the season, made possible by Brandon Hagel and Nikita Kucherov. The Lightning added on with an Alex Killorn goal, his seventh of the year, guided in by Nick Paul and Steven Stamkos. Tampa Bay extended the lead as Point scored his second of the game and eighth of the season on the power play, thanks to Kucherov and Mikhail Sergachev. St. Louis got on the board with a Pavel Buchnevich power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou. The Blues got one back in the second period with a Kyrou goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Thomas and Buchnevich. The Lightning replied with a Hagel goal, his sixth of the year, passed from Kucherov and Point. Tampa Bay iced it at 5-2 with a Paul empty net goal, his ninth of the campaign, set up by Killorn and Stamkos. Back north, the Columbus Blue Jackets host the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin and Joonas Korpisalo are set to start in goal. New York started in the first period with an Oliver Wahlstrom goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Mathew Barzal and Simon Holmstrom. The Islanders added on with a Jean-Gabriel Pageau power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Noah Dobson and Barzal in the second period. Columbus got on the board with a Yegor Chinakhov power play goal, his fourth of the season, with assists provided by Johnny Gaudreau and Kent Johnson. The Blue Jackets tied it on a Johnson power play goal, his fifth of the year, fueled by Marcus Bjork and Gaudreau. New York replied in the third period with a Brock Nelson goal, his tenth of the campaign, going in unassisted. The final held at 3-2, with the three stars being Johnson, Barzal, and Gaudreau.

Out west again, the Vegas Golden Knights welcome the Seattle Kraken. Philipp Grubauer and Adin Hill are the backups in goal. The Kraken added on with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his sixth of the year, passed from Larsson and Jaden Schwartz. Vegas got on the board with a Nicolas Roy power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by William Karlsson and Shea Theodore. The Golden Knights tied it on a Phil Kessel goal, his fourth of the year, via Theodore. Seattle retook the lead with a Burakovsky goal, his second of the game and seventh of the season, assisted by Jamie Oleksiak and Justin Schultz. The Kraken extended the lead as Jordan Eberle scored his sixth of the year, thanks to Matty Beniers. This was it for the scoring in the 4-2 game, with the three stars being Burakovsky, Larsson, and Theodore.

Backtracking to Dallas, as the Stars bring in the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger guard the cages. Winnipeg led off in the first period with a Cole Perfetti goal, his fourth of the season, guided in by Blake Wheeler and Nate Schmidt. Dallas tied it on a Wyatt Johnston goal, his fifth of the year, made possible by Jamie Benn and Ty Dellandrea. The Jets retook the lead with a Jansen Harkins goal, coming off of Adam Lowry and Brenden Dillon. The Stars tied it again with a Jamie Benn power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen. Winnipeg regained the lead in the second period with a Lowry goal, his fourth of the year, courtesy of Axel Jonsson-Fjallby and Dylan DeMelo. The Jets added on in the third period with a Kyle Connor goal, his seventh of the season, fueled by Pierre-Luc Dubois and DeMelo. Dallas got one back with a Robertson goal, his seventeenth of the year, assisted by Heiskanen and Tyler Seguin. The Stars tied it on a Robertson goal, his second of the game and eighteenth of the season, with helpers from Seguin and Joe Pavelski. Winnipeg won 5-4 in overtime with a Josh Morrissey goal, his fourth of the year, helped along by Wheeler. The three stars were Lowry, Robertson, and Wheeler, while DeMelo, Benn, Seguin, and Heiskanen get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks host the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and James Reimer are the veterans in goal. Los Angeles began in the first period with a Jaret Anderson-Dolan goal, made possible by Blake Lizotte and Drew Doughty. San Jose tied it on a Kevin Labanc goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Timo Meier and Tomas Hertl. The Kings retook the lead with a Phillip Danault power play goal, his seventh of the year, powered by Viktor Arvidsson and Sean Durzi. Los Angeles added on in the second period with an Arvidsson goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Kevin Fiala and Durzi. The Sharks got one back with an Alexander Barabanov goal, his third of the year, going in unassisted. The Kings answered in the third period with a Rasmus Kupari goal, his second of the season, passed from Anderson-Dolan and Arthur Kaliyev. Los Angeles iced it at 5-2 with an empty net goal by Anze Kopitar, his fourth of the year, set up by Adrian Kempe. The three stars were Anderson-Dolan, Arvidsson, and Durzi.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 45

A massive day before Thanksgiving features 15 games. First up...

The Buffalo Sabres host the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen are in goal. Buffalo led off in the first period with a Jeff Skinner goal, his eighth of the season, via Alex Tuch. St. Louis tied it in the second period with a Pavel Buchnevich power play goal, his fifth of the year, powered by Jordan Kyrou and Robert Thomas. The Sabres took the lead back with a Dylan Cozens goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Vinnie Hinostroza and JJ Peterka. Buffalo added on with a Victor Olofsson power play goal, his tenth of the year, assisted by Owen Power and Casey Mittelstadt. The Sabres extended the lead as Skinner scored his second of the game and ninth of the season on the power play, thanks to Tuch. Buffalo padded the lead on a Jack Quinn goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. The Sabres continued with another Quinn goal, his second of the game and third of the season, an unassisted tally. The Blues got one back with a Brayden Schenn goal, his sixth of the year, helped along by Noel Acciari and Ivan Barbashev. The final was 6-2, and the three stars were Skinner, Quinn, and Tuch.

Down in Florida, the Panthers welcome the Boston Bruins. Jeremy Swayman and Spencer Knight patrol the creases. Florida opened in the first period with a Sam Reinhart power play goal, his sixth of the season, powered by Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov. Boston tied it on a Charlie McAvoy power play goal, his second of the year, with assists provided by Jake DeBrusk. The Panthers took the lead in the second period with an Anton Lundell goal, his second of the season, via Nick Cousins and Reinhart. Florida added on with a Barkov power play goal, his fifth of the year, with helpers from Brandon Montour and Aaron Ekblad. The Panthers extended the lead as Tkachuk scored his ninth of the season on the power play, thanks to Barkov and Ekblad. Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins host the Calgary Flames. Dan Vladar is mismatched with Tristan Jarry in goal. Pittsburgh started in the first period with a Jan Rutta goal, his third of the season, coming off of Jeff Carter and Danton Heinen. Calgary tied it in the second period with a Dillon Dube goal, his third of the year, via Chris Tanev and Dennis Gilbert. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Rickard Rakell, Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin lifted the Penguins 2-1 over Jonathan Huberdeau, Rasmus Andersson and the Flames. The three stars were Jarry (33 for 34 in saves), Vladar (38 for 39 in saves), and Malkin.

Montreal iced it at 3-1 with an empty net goal by Sean Monahan, his fifth of the campaign, going in unassisted. The three stars were Montembeault (29 for 30 in saves), Savard, and Xhekaj.

Northwest to Minnesota, as the Wild host the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck faces a lesser foe in Filip Gustavsson in goal. Minnesota struck first in the first period with a Mason Shaw goal, his third of the season, assisted by Matt Dumba and Nic Petan. The Wild added on in the second period with a Calen Addison goal, via Jon Merrill and Matt Boldy. Minnesota extended the lead as Marcus Foligno scored his second of the year, thanks to Dumba and Joel Eriksson Ek. Winnipeg got on the board with a Kyle Connor goal, his sixth of the season, fueled by Josh Morrissey and Michael Eyssimont. The Wild shot back on a Kirill Kaprizov power play goal in the third period, his eleventh of the year, powered by Mats Zuccarello and Boldy. East to New York, as the Islanders bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Jack Campbell and Ilya Sorokin are the masked men. The Islanders added on with a Pageau power play goal, his second of the game and fifth of the year, powered by Mathew Barzal and Anders Lee. New York extended the lead as Sebastian Aho scored his second of the season, thanks to Oliver Wahlstrom and Casey Cizikas. Just two games on this Tuesday, beginning with...

The Montreal Canadiens hosting the Buffalo Sabres. Craig Anderson and Jake Allen are the veteran goalies. Buffalo kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Rasmus Dahlin goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Tage Thompson and Jeff Skinner. The Sabres added on with a J.J. Peterka goal, his fourth of the year, via Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn. Buffalo extended the lead on an Alex Tuch power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by Dahlin and Skinner. Montreal got on the board with a Cole Caufield goal, his twelfth of the year, assisted by Kaiden Guhle and David Savard. The Sabres fired back in the second period with a Skinner goal, his sixth of the season, passed from Thompson and Tuch. The Canadiens got one back with a Sean Monahan goal, his fourth of the year, courtesy of Evgenii Dadonov and Chris Wideman. Buffalo fired back in the third period with a Henri Jokiharju goal, guided in by Tuch and Thompson. There's 10 games on this Monday as the league begins to line up for Thanksgiving week. First up...

The Philadelphia Flyers host the Calgary Flames. Jacob Markstrom and Carter Hart protect the nets. Calgary began in the first period with a Jonathan Huberdeau goal, his third of the season, via Blake Coleman. The Flames added on with a Dillon Dube goal, his second of the year, assisted by Coleman and MacKenzie Weegar. Philadelphia got on the board with a Tanner Laczynski goal, passed from Kevin Hayes and Noah Cates. Calgary shot back in the second period with a Rasmus Andersson goal, his second of the season, guided in by Noah Hanifin and Andrew Mangiapane. The Flyers got one back in the third period with a Joel Farabee goal, his fourth of the year, going in unassisted. The Flames fired back on a Coleman empty net unassisted goal, his third of the season. Calgary iced it at 5-2 with a Trevor Lewis empty net goal, his fourth of the year, set up by Chris Tanev and Milan Lucic. The three stars were Coleman, Andersson, and Dube.

The Maple Leafs took the lead with an Auston Matthews goal, his ninth of the season, coming off of Timothy Liljegren and Rasmus Sandin. The Islanders tied it in the third period with a Josh Bailey goal, his fourth of the year, going in unassisted. New York won 3-2 in overtime with an Anthony Beauvillier goal, his fourth of the campaign, passed from Brock Nelson and Dobson. The three stars were Dobson, Beauvillier, and Bailey. 

Over in Winnipeg, the Jets welcome the Carolina Hurricanes. Pyotr Kochetkov and David Rittich are in the blue paint. Winnipeg struck first in the first period with a Pierre-Luc Dubois goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by Blake Wheeler and Cole Perfetti. The Jets added on in the second period with a Michael Eyssimont goal, made possible by David Gustafsson and Jansen Harkins. Winnipeg extended the lead in the third period as Josh Morrissey scored his second of the year, thanks to Wheeler and Dubois. Carolina got on the board with a Jaccob Slavin goal, courtesy of Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho. The Hurricanes got closer with a Svechnikov goal, his thirteenth of the season, fueled by Brent Burns and Aho. Carolina tied it as Martin Necas scored his ninth of the year, with the help of Seth Jarvis and Aho. The Jets won 4-3 in overtime with another Morrissey goal, his second of the game and third of the campaign, helped along by Dubois. The three stars were Morrissey, Dubois, and Wheeler, while Aho and Svechnikov get the honorable mentions. 

Back stateside, the St. Louis Blues bring in the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Jordan Binnington are between the pipes. St. Louis kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Noel Acciari goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Brayden Schenn. Anaheim tied it on a Cam Fowler goal, his second of the year, via Isac Lundestrom. The Blues took the lead back in the third period with a Justin Faulk power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou. St. Louis iced it at 3-1 with an Acciari empty net goal, his second of the game and fifth of the year, set up by Pavel Buchnevich. The three stars were Acciari, Binnington (27 for 28 in saves), and Faulk. 

To the east, the Nashville Predators host the Arizona Coyotes. Connor Ingram is mismatched with Juuse Saros in goal. Nashville was first to score in the first period with a Mikael Granlund power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi. Arizona tied it in the second period with a Lawson Crouse goal, his seventh of the year, guided in by Nick Bjugstad and Matias Maccelli. The Coyotes took the lead on a Bjugstad goal, his second of the season, coming off of Nick Ritchie and J.J. Moser. The Predators retied it in the third period with a Josi power play goal, his fourth of the year, with assists provided by Ryan Johansen and Granlund. Nashville pulled ahead with a Matt Duchene goal, his fifth of the season, with a lone helper by Colton Sissons. Arizona tied it on a shorthanded and unassisted Bjugstad goal, his second of the game and third of the year. Down in Dallas, the Stars welcome the Colorado Avalanche. Alexandar Georgiev and Jake Oettinger tend the twines. Colorado drew first blood in the first period with a Cale Makar power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Mikko Rantanen and Artturi Lehkonen. Dallas tied it in the second period with a Jason Robertson goal, his thirteenth of the year, guided in by Ty Dellandrea. The Avalanche retook the lead in the third period with an Alex Newhook goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Evan Rodrigues and Andreas Englund. The Stars tied it again with a Robertson goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the year, made possible by Roope Hintz and Colin Miller. The tie went to a shootout, where Rantanen's lone tally in the shootout lifted the Avalanche to a 3-2 win. The three stars were Rantanen, Robertson, and Oettinger (34 for 36 in saves).

The Sharks took the lead back in the second period with a Timo Meier goal, his ninth of the year, via Erik Karlsson. San Jose added on with a Matt Nieto goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Benning and Alexander Barabanov. The Sharks extended the lead as Tomas Hertl scored his fifth of the year on the power play, powered by Karlsson and Logan Couture. San Jose iced it at 5-1 in the third period with a Couture empty net goal, his tenth of the campaign, set up by Jaycob Megna and Kunin. Finally, the Vancouver Canucks host the Vegas Golden Knights. Logan Thompson and Thatcher Demko are the masked men. The Canucks added on with an Elias Pettersson goal, his tenth of the year, coming off of Ilya Mikheyev and Kuzmenko. The Columbus Blue Jackets welcome the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Daniil Tarasov are the goalies. Florida opened in the first period with a Matthew Tkachuk goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Gustav Forsling. Columbus tied it on an unassisted Yegor Chinakhov goal, his third of the year. The Blue Jackets took the lead in the second period with a Kent Johnson power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Johnny Gaudreau and Marcus Bjork. The Panthers tied it again with an Aaron Ekblad goal, his second of the year, via Forsling and Nick Cousins. Columbus took the lead with a Sean Kuraly shorthanded goal in the third period, his sixth of the season, set up by Eric Robinson and Andrew Peeke. The Blue Jackets added on with a Gaudreau goal, his seventh of the year, passed from Gutsav Nyquist. Columbus extended the lead as Boone Jenner scored his eighth of the season on the power play, with the help of Gaudreau and Emil Bemstrom. Florida got one back with a Colin White goal, his fifth of the year, with helpers from Cousins and Josh Mahura. The Devils added on with a Nathan Bastian goal, his third of the season, coming off of Miles Wood and Michael McLeod. New Jersey extended the lead in the second period as Jesper Boqvist scored his second of the year, thanks to Yegor Sharangovich and Jonas Siegenthaler. Cam Talbot replaced Forsberg in goal. Ottawa got on the board with a Derick Brassard goal, his second of the season, made possible by Erik Brannstrom and Claude Giroux. The Devils replied with a shorthanded Sharangovich goal, his fifth of the year, set up by Nico Hischier. St. Louis extended the lead as Buchnevich scored his second of the game and fourth of the season in the second period, thanks to Thomas and Jordan Kyrou. The Blues padded the lead on a Schenn goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Buchnevich and Faulk. Anaheim got on the board with a Cam Fowler power play goal, powered by Adam Henrique. St. Louis replied with a Torey Krug power play goal, his fourth of the season, with assists provided by Kyrou and Buchnevich. Anthony Stolarz relieved Gibson in the third period. The Ducks got one back with a Henrique power play goal, his sixth of the year, guided in by Fowler and Mason McTavish. The Blues replied with a Thomas goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Kyrou. The final was 6-2, and the three stars were awarded to Buchnevich, Kyrou, and Thomas, while Schenn, Henrique, and Fowler get the honorable mentions.

East to Nashville, as the Predators host the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Juuse Saros tend the twines. Nashville cracked the scoresheet in the first period with a Filip Forsberg power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Mattias Ekholm and Jusso Parssinen. Tampa Bay tied it on a Nikita Kucherov power play goal in the second period, his tenth of the year, coming off of Brayden Point and Mikhail Sergachev. The Predators took the lead in the third period with a Nino Niederreiter goal, his ninth of the season, going in unassisted. The Lightning tied it again on an Alex Killorn goal, his sixth of the year, made possible by Ian Cole and Nikita Kucherov. Tampa Bay won 3-2 in overtime with a Steven Stamkos power play goal, his tenth of the campaign, with assists provided by Kucherov and Point. The three stars were Kucherov, Point, and Stamkos.

Further south to Dallas, as the Stars welcome the New York Islanders. Semyon Varlamov and Jake Oettinger are the masked men. New York got going in the second period with a Mathew Barzal goal, coming off of Alexander Romanov and Oliver Wahlstrom. Dallas tied it on a Radek Faksa goal, his second of the season, via Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. The Islanders added on with a Barzal power play goal, his second of the game, powered by Brock Nelson and Anders Lee. The Stars tied it again on a Mason Marchment goal, his sixth of the year, courtesy of Benn and Colin Miller. Dallas took the lead with a Benn goal, his eighth of the season, made possible by Marchment and Seguin. The Stars extended the lead as Jason Robertson scored his twelfth of the year, with the help of Joe Pavelski. Dallas iced it at 5-2 with a Jani Hakanpaa empty net goal, his third of the campaign, set up by the goalie Oettinger and Pavelski. The three stars went to Benn, Marchment, and Barzal, while Seguin and Pavelski get the honorable mentions.

Way north to Minnesota, where the Wild bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Pyotr Kochetkov and Filip Gustavsson are the backups in goal. Carolina led off in the first period with a Sebastian Aho goal, his ninth of the season, via Martin Necas and Stefan Noesen. Minnesota tied it on a Sam Steel goal in the third period, his third of the year, courtesy of Jared Spurgeon and Kirill Kaprizov. The Wild won 2-1 in overtime with an Alex Goligoski goal, assisted by Steel and Frederick Gaudreau. The three stars belonged to Steel, Goligoski, and Gustavsson (20 for 21 in saves).

In Canada once more, the Edmonton Oilers host the Vegas Golden Knights. Adin Hill and Stuart Skinner will patrol the creases. Edmonton began in the first period with a Warren Foegele goal, his third of the season, courtesy of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ryan Murray. Vegas tied it on a Keegan Kolesar goal, his third of the year, via Shea Theodore and Brett Howden. The Golden Knights took the lead in the second period on a Mark Stone penalty shot goal, his sixth of the season. The Oilers tied it on a Leon Draisaitl goal, his tenth of the year, passed from Darnell Nurse and Nugent-Hopkins. Edmonton pulled ahead in the third period with a Zach Hyman power play goal, his ninth of the season, powered by Connor McDavid and Nugent-Hopkins. Vegas tied it again with a Stone goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, coming off of Theodore and Jack Eichel. The Oilers won 4-3 in overtime with a McDavid goal, his sixteenth of the campaign, passed from Nurse and Draisaitl.

To Seattle, where the Kraken welcome the Los Angeles Kings. Cal Petersen and Martin Jones are in the blue paint. Seattle opened in the first period with a Jared McCann goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Matty Beniers and Jordan Eberle. Los Angeles tied it in the second period on a Phillip Danault goal, his sixth of the year, via Viktor Arvidsson and Alexander Edler. The Kings took the lead in the third period with a Trevor Moore shorthanded goal, his sixth of the season, set up by Danault and Matt Roy. The Kraken retied it on a Daniel Sprong power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Justin Schultz and Beniers. Seattle won 3-2 in overtime with an Eberle goal, his fifth of the campaign, fueled by Schultz. The three stars were Eberle, Schultz, and Danault.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the New York Rangers. Igor Shesterkin and James Reimer get the starts in goal. New York dented the scoreboard in the third period with a Julien Gauthier goal, his third of the season, via Jacob Trouba and K'Andre Miller. The Rangers added on with an Adam Fox empty net goal, his sixth of the year, set up by Mika Zibanejad and Jimmy Vesey. San Jose got on the board with a Logan Couture goal, his ninth of the season, courtesy of Tomas Hertl and Timo Meier. The final was 2-1, with the three stars being Shesterkin (22 for 23 in saves), Reimer (41 for 42 in saves), and Gauthier.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 40

The lone game tonight sees the Vancouver Canucks host the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Thatcher Demko man the nets. Vancouver got going in the second period with an Elias Pettersson goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Andrei Kuzmenko and Ilya Mikheyev. The Canucks added on with a Brock Boeser power play goal, powered by J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes. Los Angeles got on the board with a Blake Lizotte goal, his fifth of the year, assisted by Sean Walker and Alexander Edler. Vancouver fired back on a Pettersson goal, his second of the game and ninth of the season, made possible by Kuzmenko and Hughes. The Canucks extended the lead as Boeser scored his second of the game, thanks to Sheldon Dries. The final held at 4-1, with the three stars being Pettersson, Boeser, and Hughes, while Kuzmenko gets an honorable mention.
