NHL 2022-23 - Day 92

A quieter day with three games on today, beginning with...

The Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the Winnipeg Jets. David Rittich and Dustin Tokarski are the backups in goal. Winnipeg started in the first period with a Blake Wheeler power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by Cole Perfetti. Pittsburgh tied it on a Drew O'Connor goal, his second of the year, coming off of Kasperi Kapanen. The Jets took the lead back in the second period with a Mark Scheifele goal, his twenty-fifth of the season, via Wheeler and Perfetti. Winnipeg added on with a Nikolaj Ehlers goal, his third of the year, courtesy of Kyle Connor and Dylan DeMelo. The Jets extended the lead in the third period as Scheifele scored his second of the game and twenty-sixth of the campaign, thanks to DeMelo and Perfetti. This made it 4-1, the final, with the three stars going to Scheifele, Perfetti, and Wheeler, while DeMelo gets an honorable mention. 

Out west, the Anaheim Ducks welcome the New Jersey Devils. Vitek Vanecek and John Gibson start in goal. New Jersey opened in the first period with a Dougie Hamilton goal, his tenth of the season, courtesy of Dawson Mercer and Michael McLeod. The Devils added on with a Jesper Bratt goal, his sixteenth of the year, coming off of Ryan Graves and Damon Severson. New Jersey extended the lead as Jack Hughes scored his twenty-seventh of the season on the power play, powered by Hamilton and Tomas Tatar. The Devils padded the lead in the second period on a Bratt goal, his second of the game and seventeenth of the year, passed from Hughes and Severson. Anaheim got on the board with an Adam Henrique goal, his thirteenth of the season, helped along by Troy Terry. New Jersey replied in the third period with a Jesper Boqvist goal, his fifth of the year, made possible by Severson. The Ducks answered with a Trevor Zegras power play goal, his thirteenth of the season, with assists provided by Henrique and Cam Fowler. The Devils countered with a Hughes goal, his second of the game and twenty-eighth of the year, guided in by Yegor Sharangovich. The final held at 6-2, with the three stars given to Hughes, Bratt, and Severson, while Hamilton, Boqvist, and Henrique get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Jack Campbell and Kaapo Kahkonen man the nets. Edmonton kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Connor McDavid power play goal, his thirty-sixth of the season, powered by Leon Draisaitl and Tyson Barrie. The Oilers added on with a Klim Kostin goal, his eighth of the year, passed from Zach Hyman and Vincent Desharnais. Edmonton extended the lead in the second period as McDavid scored his second of the game and thirty-seventh of the season, thanks to Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers padded the lead on a Nugent-Hopkins shorthanded goal, his twenty-first of the year, set up by Mattias Janmark. Edmonton continued with a Draisaitl goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, coming off of McDavid. The Oilers kept going in the third period with a Jesse Puljujarvi goal, his fourth of the year, helped along by Nugent-Hopkins. NHL 2022-23 - Day 91

There's 12 games on tonight, beginning with...

The Boston Bruins hosting the Seattle Kraken. Martin Jones and Linus Ullmark are the masked men. Seattle started in the first period with a Brandon Tanev goal, his eighth of the season, guided in by Daniel Sprong. The Kraken added on in the second period with an Eeli Tolvanen goal, his sixth of the year, via Oliver Bjorkstrand and Yanni Gourde. Seattle extended the lead in the third period as Jaden Schwartz scored an empty net goal, his tenth of the campaign, set up by Vince Dunn and Adam Larsson. The final was 3-0, with the three stars awarded to Jones (27 save shutout), Tanev, and Tolvanen.

Along to Buffalo, as the Sabres welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen man the nets. Winnipeg led off in the first period with a Dylan Samberg goal, his second of the season, assisted by Nate Schmidt. Buffalo tied it in the second period with a Victor Olofsson goal, his sixteenth of the year, via Casey Mittelstadt and Henri Jokiharju. The Jets took the lead back with a Josh Morrissey goal, his eighth of the season, guided in by Nikolaj Ehlers and Dylan DeMelo. The Sabres tied it in the third period on a Tyson Jost goal, his fourth of the year, passed from Olofsson and Rasmus Dahlin. Winnipeg regained the lead on a Kyle Connor goal, his twenty-first of the season, coming off of Ehlers. The Jets iced it at 4-2 with a Karson Kuhlman empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by Connor and Brenden Dillon. The three stars belonged to Connor, Olofsson, and Ehlers.

In Montreal, the Canadiens bring in the Nashville Predators. Yaroslav Askarov and Sam Montembeault are the little-known goalies. Montreal tied it on a Jake Evans goal, his second of the year, guided in by David Savard and Joel Edmundson. The Canadiens took the lead with a Kirby Dach goal, his seventh of the season, with helpers from Jesse Ylonen and Jonathan Drouin. The Predators retied it in the second period with a Filip Forsberg goal, his eighteenth of the year, fueled by Matt Duchene and Juuso Parssinen. Montreal regained the lead with a Cole Caufield power play goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, powered by Nick Suzuki and Drouin. The Canadiens added on with another Caufield power play goal, his second of the game and twenty-fifth of the year, coming off of Dach and Drouin. New York tied it in the third period with a K'Andre Miller goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Vincent Trocheck and Adam Fox. The Rangers won 2-1 in overtime with a Fox goal, his ninth of the campaign, via Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad. The three stars were Fox, Shesterkin (24 for 25 in saves), and Miller.

Over in Columbus, the Blue Jackets host the Carolina Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen and Joonas Korpisalo are the goalies. Carolina struck first in the first period with a Brett Pesce goal, his third of the season, via Teuvo Teravainen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. The Hurricanes extended the lead in the third period as Pesce scored his second of the game and fourth of the season, thanks to Sebastian Aho. Carolina padded the lead on a Slavin goal, his third of the year, with a lone helper by Aho. The Blue Jackets got one back with a Johnny Gaudreau goal, his twelfth of the season, courtesy of Patrik Laine and Adam Boqvist. Minnesota tied it in the third period with a Frederick Gaudreau shorthanded goal, his tenth of the year, set up by Joel Eriksson Ek. The Wild added on with a Sam Steel goal, his eighth of the season, via Mats Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov. Minnesota iced it at 3-1 with a Kaprizov empty net goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, coming off of Zuccarello and Jon Merill. Out west, the St. Louis Blues bring in the Calgary Flames. Dan Vladar and Thomas Greiss are the backups in goal. Calgary dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Walker Duehr goal, coming off of Nazem Kadri and Trevor Lewis. St. Louis tied it in the third period on a Jake Neighbours goal, his second of the season, assisted by Noel Acciari and Ivan Barbashev. The Flames took the lead back with a Dillon Dube goal, his ninth of the year, via Elias Lindholm and Tyler Toffoli. Calgary added on with a Blake Coleman goal, his eighth of the season, going in unassisted. The Flames iced it at 4-1 with a Dube empty net goal, his second of the game and tenth of the year, set up by Lindholm and Toffoli. The final stayed at 4-1, with the three stars given to Dube, Lindholm, and Toffoli.

Up in Chicago, the Blackhawks host the Colorado Avalanche. Pavel Francouz and Petr Mrazek are in the blue paint. Chicago drew first blood in the first period with a Sam Lafferty goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Colin Blackwell. Colorado tied it on an Evan Rodrigues goal, his tenth of the year, via Nathan MacKinnon. The Blackhawks took the lead in the second period with an Andreas Athanasiou goal, his ninth of the season, made possible by Isaak Phillips and the goalie Mrazek. The Avalanche tied it on a Cale Makar goal, his eleventh of the year, courtesy of Mikko Rantanen and MacKinnon. Chicago took the lead in the third period with a Taylor Raddysh goal, his eleventh of the season, guided in by Tyler Johnson and Jonathan Toews. The Flyers took the lead back with a Travis Konecny goal, his twenty-second of the season, made possible by Joel Farabee. Philadelphia added on in the third period with a Tippett goal, his thirteenth of the year, guided in by James van Riemsdyk. The Flyers extended the lead on a Konecny shorthanded goal, his second of the game and twenty-third of the season, set up by Laughton and Ivan Provorov. The Sharks tied it on a Nico Sturm goal in the second period, his tenth of the year, with helpers from Nick Bonino and Oskar Lindblom. The Sharks took the lead in the third period with a Matt Nieto goal, his eighth of the season, made possible by Logan Couture and Alexander Barabanov. There's four games tonight, beginning with...

The Buffalo Sabres hosting the Philadelphia Flyers. Samuel Ersson and Craig Anderson are set to start in goal. Philadelphia led off in the first period with a Zack MacEwen goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by Patrick Brown and Nicolas Deslauriers. The Flyers added on with a Joel Farabee goal, his ninth of the year, via Travis Sanheim and Travis Konecny. Philadelphia extended the lead as Noah Cates scored his fifth of the season, thanks to Konecny and Farabee. New York led off in the first period with a Jimmy Vesey goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Alexis Lafreniere and Jacob Trouba. The Rangers added on with a Julien Gauthier goal in the second period, his sixth of the year, via Adam Fox and Barclay Goodrow. New Jersey got on the board with an unassisted Jack Hughes goal, his twenty-fifth of the season. New York fired back with a Chris Kreider goal, his nineteenth of the year, made possible by K'Andre Miller and Mika Zibanejad. The Devils got one back in the third period with a Jesper Bratt power play goal, his fifteenth of the season, powered by Nico Hischier and Hughes. New Jersey tied it on a Hughes goal, his second of the game and twenty-sixth of the year, assisted by Dawson Mercer and Ryan Graves. Out west, the Edmonton Oilers host the Colorado Avalanche. Alexandar Georgiev and Stuart Skinner are between the pipes. Edmonton drew first blood in the first period with a Zach Hyman power play goal, his nineteenth of the season, powered by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers added on with a Hyman power play goal in the second period, his second of the game and twentieth of the year, with assists provided by Tyson Barrie and Draisaitl. Colorado got on the board in the third period with a Nathan MacKinnon goal, his tenth of the season, guided in by Cale Makar and Evan Rodrigues. The Avalanche tied it on a Brad Hunt goal, via Rodrigues and Samuel Girard. Colorado won 3-2 in overtime with a Makar goal, his tenth of the year, coming off of MacKinnon and the goalie Georgiev. The three stars belonged to Makar, Hyman, and MacKinnon, while Draisaitl and Rodrigues get the honorable mentions.

Down in Vegas, the Golden Knights welcome the Los Angeles Kings. Pheonix Copley and Logan Thompson are in the blue paint. Los Angeles kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Kevin Fiala goal, his eleventh of the season, coming off of Blake Lizotte and Gabriel Vilardi. The Kings added on in the second period with a shorthanded Matt Roy goal, his fifth of the year, set up by Rasmus Kupari and Anze Kopitar. Los Angeles extended the lead as Fiala scored his second of the game and twelfth of the season, thanks to Sean Durzi and Vilardi. Adin Hill replaced Thompson in goal. The Kings padded the lead in the third period on a Viktor Arvidsson goal, his eleventh of the year, courtesy of Sean Walker and Phillip Danault. Vegas got on the board with a Jonathan Marchessault goal, his fifteenth of the season, passed from Nicolas Roy and Phil Kessel. Los Angeles answered with a Fiala empty net goal to complete his hat trick on his thirteenth of the year, courtesy of Lizotte and Vilardi. This made it 5-1, with the three stars going to Fiala, Vilardi, and Lizotte.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Boston Bruins. Linus Ullmark and James Reimer guard the cages. Boston was first to score in the first period with a Brad Marchand goal, his twelfth of the season, courtesy of Charlie McAvoy and Patrice Bergeron. The Bruins added on with a Craig Smith goal, his second of the year, via Nick Foligno and Charlie Coyle. San Jose got on the board with a Logan Couture goal, his fifteenth of the season, coming off of Alexander Barabanov and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. The Sharks tied it in the second period with a Mario Ferraro goal, his second of the year, assisted by Matt Benning and Matt Nieto. Boston took the lead back with a David Pastrnak power play goal, his twenty-eighth of the season, powered by Marchand and McAvoy. The Bruins extended the lead as Pastrnak scored his second of the game and twenty-ninth of the year, with helpers from Bergeron and Marchand. The final held at 4-2, with the three stars being Pastrnak, Marchand, and Bergeron, while McAvoy gets an honorable mention.
