NHL 2023-24 - Day 125

It's an eight game Tuesday slate. First up...

The Florida Panthers host the Ottawa Senators. Joonas Korpisalo and Sergei Bobrovsky get the starting nods in goal. Florida started in the first period with an Aaron Ekblad goal, his fourth of the season, via Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Reinhart. The Panthers added on with a Brandon Montour goal in the second period, his fourth of the year, going in unassisted. Ottawa got on the board with a Thomas Chabot goal, his third of the season, an unassisted goal. The Senators tied it on a Tim Stutzle goal, his fourteenth of the season, guided in by Claude Giroux and Chabot. Florida won 3-2 in overtime with an Anton Lundell goal, his eighth of the year, coming off of Matthews Tkachuk. The three stars were Chabot, Lundell, and Montour.

Up in New York, the Rangers welcome the Dallas Stars. Scott Wedgewood and Igor Shesterkin are in the blue paint. New York began in the first period with an Adam Fox goal, his ninth of the season, coming off of Artemi Panarin and Ryan Lindgren. The Rangers added on with a Kaapo Kakko goal, his seventh of the year, passed from Erik Gustafsson and K'Andre Miller. Dallas got on the board with a Miro Heiskanen power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Jamie Benn and Joe Pavelski. New York iced it at 3-1 in the third period with an empty net goal by Vincent Trocheck, his nineteenth of the year, set up by Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad. The three stars were Shesterkin (41 for 42 in saves), Kakko, and Fox.

Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins bring in the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin faces a lesser foe in Alex Nedeljkovic in goal. Pittsburgh led off in the first period with a Marcus Pettersson goal, his third of the season, courtesy of Rickard Rakell and Erik Karlsson. New York tied it on a Brock Nelson goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, assisted by Ryan Pulock and Adam Pelech. The Islanders took the lead with a Mathew Barzal goal, his seventeenth of the season, made possible by the goalie Sorokin. New York added on with a Simon Holmstrom goal, his thirteenth of the year, going in unassisted. The Penguins got one back with a Lars Eller goal, his tenth of the season, coming off of Chad Ruhwedel and Ryan Graves. The Islanders replied with a Mike Reilly goal in the third period, his fourth of the year, fueled by Nelson and Anders Lee. Pittsburgh fired back on a Valtteri Puustinen goal, his second of the season, helped along by Kris Letang and Reilly Smith. The Penguins tied it on a Drew O'Connor goal, his seventh of the year, guided in by Evgeni Malkin. The Islanders won 5-4 in overtime with a Pelech goal, passed from Barzal and Bo Horvat. Back in DC, the Washington Capitals host the New Jersey Devils. Nico Daws and Charlie Lindgren patrol the creases. New Jersey tied it on an Alexander Holtz goal, his thirteenth of the year, coming off of Simon Nemec. The Capitals retook the lead in the second period with a McMichael goal, his second of the game and tenth of the season, going in unassisted. Washington added on in the third period with a Dylan Strome goal, his twenty-first of the year, via Alex Ovechkin and Sonny Milano. The Capitals extended the lead as Ovechkin scored his fifteenth of the season, thanks to Strome. Washington padded the lead on a Michael Sgarbossa goal, assisted by John Carlson and Max Pacioretty. The Devils got one back with an Erik Haula goal, his twelfth of the year, passed from Tyler Toffoli and Brendan Smith. The Capitals finished it at 6-2 with an Ovechkin power play goal, his second of the game and sixteenth of the campaign, with assists provided by Strome and T.J. Oshie. Northwest to Winnipeg, as the Jets host the Minnesota Wild. Marc-Andre Fleury and Laurent Brossoit draw the starts in goal. Miller goal, his twenty-eighth of the season, assisted by Brock Boeser and Quinn Hughes. Colorado tied it in the second period with a Ryan Johansen goal, his twelfth of the year, via Jack Johnson and Devon Toews. The Avalanche took the lead in the third period with another Johansen goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the season, made possible by Zach Parise. Colorado iced it at 3-1 with an empty net goal by Artturi Lehkonen, his seventh of the year, set up by Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. Next up, the Vegas Golden Knights bring in the Nashville Predators. Kevin Lankinen and Adin Hill patrol the creases. Vegas tied it on an Alex Pietrangelo goal, his third of the year, assisted by Alec Martinez and Chandler Stephenson. The Predators took the lead with a Cody Glass goal, his second of the season, passed from Josi and Yakov Trenin. Nashville added on in the second period with a Tommy Novak goal, his twelfth of the year, courtesy of McDonagh and Alexandre Carrier. Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Elvis Merzlikins and Cam Talbot are the veterans in goal. The Kings added on with a Pierre-Luc Dubois power play goal in the second period, his twelfth of the year, powered by Brandt Clarke and the goalie Talbot. Columbus got on the board with an Adam Boqvist goal, via Boone Jenner and Jack Roslovic. Los Angeles shot back with another Dubois goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the season, coming off of Byfield and Alex Turcotte. The Kings extended the lead as Kevin Fiala scored his fourteenth of the year on the power play in the third period, with the help of Drew Doughty and Adrian Kempe. Los Angeles padded the lead on a Doughty goal, his twelfth of the campaign, passed from Trevor Moore and Phillip Danault. The final was 5-1, and the three stars were Dubois, Byfield, and Doughty.

NHL 2023-24 - Day 124

It's a busy Monday with 10 games on, most of them matinees. First up...

The Buffalo Sabres host the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen are the masked men. Buffalo opened in the first period with a Jordan Greenway goal, his ninth of the season, via Dylan Cozens. Anaheim tied it on an Adam Henrique goal, his sixteenth of the year, made possible by Max Jones and Ross Johnston. The Sabres retook the lead in the second period with a Tage Thompson power play goal, his sixteenth of the season, powered by Rasmus Dahlin and Cozens. The Ducks tied it again with a Frank Vatrano goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, passed from Mason McTavish and Troy Terry. Anaheim took the lead with another Vatrano goal, his second of the game and twenty-sixth of the season, coming off of McTavish and Terry. Buffalo retied it on a Zach Benson goal, his sixth of the year, guided in by Henri Jokiharju and JJ Peterka. The Ducks regained the lead with a Terry goal, his sixteenth of the season, fueled by McTavish. To St. Louis, as the Blues bring in the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ilya Samsonov and Joel Hofer draw the starts in goal. Toronto got going in the second period with a Matthew Knies goal, his tenth of the season, assisted by Auston Matthews and Mitchell Marner. St. Louis tied it on a Brandon Saad power play goal, his fifteenth of the year, powered by Colton Parayko and Oskar Sundqvist. The Maple Leafs retook the lead in the third period with a Matthews power play goal, his forty-ninth of the season, helped along by Marner. Toronto added on with a shorthanded William Nylander goal, his twenty-ninth of the year, going in unassisted. St. Louis pulled ahead with a Krug goal, his second of the season, passed from Neighbours and Matthew Kessel. The Blues added on with a Jordan Kyrou power play goal, his eighteenth of the year, with assists provided by Neighbours and Thomas. St. Louis extended the lead as Buchnevich scored his eighteenth of the season on the power play, with the help of Thomas and Kyrou. Edmonton got one back with a Corey Perry goal in the third period, his fifth of the year, helped along by Brett Kulak and McDavid. The Blues iced it at 6-3 with a Brandon Saad empty net goal, his fourteenth of the campaign, going in unassisted. The three stars were handed to Neighbours, Thomas, and McDavid, while Buchnevich, Krug, and Kyrou get the honorable mentions.

Up in Chicago, the Blackhawks host the Pittsburgh Penguins. Alex Nedeljkovic and Arvid Soderblom are the backups in goal. Pittsburgh cracked the scoresheet in the first period with a Sidney Crosby goal, his twenty-ninth of the season, via Marcus Pettersson and Rickard Rakell. The Penguins added on with a Reilly Smith goal, his tenth of the year, passed from Drew O'Connor. Chicago got on the board in the second period with a Philipp Kurashev goal, his ninth of the season, coming off of Connor Bedard and Nick Foligno. Pittsburgh shot back in the third period with another Crosby goal, his second of the game and thirtieth of the year, assisted by Rakell and Pettersson. The Penguins iced it at 4-1 with a Bryan Rust empty net goal, his fifteenth of the campaign, set up by Kris Letang. The three stars were Crosby, Rakell, and Pettersson.

To Calgary, where the Flames welcome the San Jose Sharks. Mackenzie Blackwood and Dustin Wolf patrol the creases. Calgary opened in the first period with a Nazem Kadri goal, his seventeenth of the season, assisted by Martin Pospisil. San Jose tied it in the second period with a Mikael Granlund goal, his sixth of the year, passed from Filip Zadina. The Sharks took the lead with a Justin Bailey goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by Zadina. San Jose added on with a Luke Kunin power play goal, his seventh of the year, powered by William Eklund and Kyle Burroughs. The Flames got one back with a Mikael Backlund goal, his twelfth of the season, coming off of Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin. San Jose responded in the third period with a Zadina goal, his sixth of the year, courtesy of Nico Sturm and Bailey. The Sharks extended the lead as Zadina scored his second of the game and seventh of the season, thanks to Bailey and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. The Sharks padded the lead with another Kunin goal, his second of the game and eighth of the year, helped along by . Calgary got one back with an Andrei Kuzmenko goal, his eleventh of the season, guided in by Tanev and Jonathan Huberdeau. The final held at 6-3, with the three stars going to Zadina, Bailey, and Kunin, while Tanev gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Detroit Red Wings. Alex Lyon and Thatcher Demko are in goal. Vancouver started in the first period with a J.T. Miller goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, going in unassisted. The Canucks added on with an Elias Lindholm goal, his twelfth of the year, coming off of Elias Pettersson. Vancouver extended the lead in the second period as Nikita Zadorov scored his second of the season, thanks to Pettersson and Nils Hoglander. Detroit got on the board with a J.T. Compher goal, his twelfth of the year, guided in by Patrick Kane and Christian Fischer. The Canucks shot back with a Lindholm goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the season, made possible by Pettersson. This stood for a 4-1 win, with the three stars being Lindholm, Pettersson, and Demko (27 for 28 in saves).

NHL 2023-24 - Day 119

It's a three-game Wednesday. First up...

The Pittsburgh Penguins host the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Tristan Jarry guard the cages. Florida got going in the second period with a Matthew Tkachuk goal, his eighteenth of the season, coming off of Evan Rodrigues and Gustav Forsling. The Panthers added on a Jonah Gadjovich goal, his second of the year, made possible by Brandon Montour and Kevin Stenlund. Florida extended the lead on an Aaron Ekblad power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Tkachuk and Rodrigues. The Panthers padded the lead with an Anton Lundell goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Tkachuk and Nick Cousins. Pittsburgh got on the board with a Bryan Rust goal, his fourteenth of the season, via Jake Guentzel and Chad Ruhwedel. Florida shot back with a Lundell goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year, assisted by Eetu Luostarinen. The Penguins got one back with a John Ludvig goal, helped along by Drew O'Connor and Lars Eller. The final stood from here at 5-2, with the three stars given to Tkachuk, Lundell, and Rodrigues.

Next up, the Winnipeg Jets welcome the San Jose Sharks. Kaapo Kahkonen is mismatched with Connor Hellebuyck in goal. Winnipeg opened in the first period with a Morgan Barron goal, his ninth of the season, via Adam Lowry and Neal Pionk. The final stood at 1-0, with the three stars handed to Hellebuyck (18 save shutout), Barron, and Kahkonen (39 for 40 in saves).

Finally, the Arizona Coyotes bring in the Minnesota Wild. Marc-Andre Fleury and Connor Ingram are the masked men. Minnesota started in the first period with a Joel Eriksson Ek goal power play goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, powered by Matt Boldy and Kirill Kaprizov. The Wild added on in the second period with a Jonas Brodin goal, his third of the year, guided in by Connor Dewar. Arizona got on the board with a Logan Cooley goal, his seventh of the season, via Jack McBain and Juuso Valimaki. Minnesota answered with a Boldy goal, his nineteenth of the year, assisted by Eriksson Ek. The final was 3-1, and the three stars were Boldy, Eriksson Ek, and Fleury (25 for 26 in saves).
