Major League Soccer 2016 - Week 26

Only six games as this week is during an international break. We begin with Thursday's lone game, featuring...

New York City FC hosting DC United. Bill Hamid and Josh Saunders are in goal. DC saw a yellow card for a thirty-third minute foul by Luciano Acosta. United started in the thirty-sixth minute with a Lloyd Sam goal, via Patrick Nyarko and Acosta. DC's Rob Vincent took a yellow card for a fifty-eighth minute foul. New York City tied it on a seventy-ninth minute David Villa goal. New York City took the lead on an eighty-fifth minute goal by Frank Lampard, assisted by Villa and Khiry Shelton. United retied it in stoppage time on a Lamar Neagle goal, set up by Julian Buescher. New York City regained the lead two minutes later on Lampard's second of the game, coming off of Shelton. The game ended 3-2, with Lampard the man of the match for his brace, including the winner.

On Saturday, the first of six games had the Vancouver Whitecaps FC welcoming the New York Red Bulls. Luis Robles and David Ousted play goal. New York's Alex Muyl had a yellow card for a twentieth minute foul. Vancouver saw Fraser Aird take a yellow card for his foul in the twenty-ninth minute. The Red Bulls got going in the fiftieth minute on a Bradley Wright-Phillips goal. Mike Grella of New York received a yellow card for his foul in the sixtieth minute. The Whitecaps saw a yellow card assessed to Andrew Jacobson in the eighty-eighth minute for a foul. The game ended at 1-0, with Wright-Phillips the man of the match for his winner.

East to New England, where the Revolution bring in the Colorado Rapids. Zac MacMath and Brad Knighton are the backups in goal. New England opened in the twelfth minute with a Juan Agudelo goal, assisted by Gershon Koffie and Lee Nguyen. Colorado saw yellow cards for Sam Cronin in the twenty-second minute, Dominique Badji in the twenty-ninth minute, and MacMath in the thirty-second minute, all for fouls. The Revolution added on in the forty-ninth minute on a Chris Tierney goal, passed from Diego Fagundez and Kelyn Rowe. The Rapids took a yellow card for a Bobby Burling foul in stoppage time. The game ended at 2-0, with Agudelo the man of the match for his winner.

Backtracking to Chicago, where the Fire host the Philadelphia Union. John McCarthy and Sean Johnson are in the six-yard boxes. Chicago was first to score when Philadelphia's Roland Alberg committed an own goal in the twenty-second minute. The Fire saw yellow cards for Joao Meira in the fifty-eighth minute, Razvan Cocis in the sixty-first minute, and Johan Kappelhof in the sixty-fourth minute, all for fouls. Chicago added on with a seventy-first minute Michael de Leeuw goal. Chicago extended the lead as Arturo Alvarez scored in the ninetieth minute, with the help of de Leeuw. The final stood at 3-0, with de Leeuw the man of the match with his goal and assist.

Down in Texas, FC Dallas welcomes the Portland Timbers. Jake Gleeson and Chris Seitz are the gloved men. Dallas struck first in the fourteenth minute with a Mauro Diaz penalty kick goal. Jack Jewsbury of Portland took a yellow card for a twenty-second minute foul. Dallas added on in first half stoppage time with a Victor Ulloa goal. Juan Esteban Ortiz of Dallas took a yellow card for a forty-sixth minute foul. The Timbers saw Liam Ridgewell booked on a yellow card for a fifty-second minute foul. Dallas extended the lead as Walker Zimmerman scored in the fifty-third minute, thanks to Diaz. Matt Hedges of Dallas had a yellow card for a fifty-fourth minute foul, as did teammate Maximiliano Urruti in the fifty-ninth minute. Portland got on the board with an eighty-seventh minute goal from Diego Valeri, courtesy of Zarek Valentin. Ned Grabavoy of the Timbers took a yellow card in second half stoppage time. The game ended at 3-1, with Diaz the man of the match.

Finally, the short week ends with the Los Angeles Galaxy bringing in the Columbus Crew SC. Steve Clark and Brian Rowe protect the nets. Los Angeles dented the scoreboard in the seventy-eighth minute on a Baggio Husidic goal, assisted by Sebastian Lletget. The Galaxy added on with an eighty-second minute Giovani dos Santos goal, guided in by Robbie Rogers. Columbus got on the board with an Adam Jahn stoppage time goal on the penalty kick. This only made it 2-1, the final, with the man of the match being Rowe (seven for eight in saves).

KHL 2016/17 - Day 13

Only two games on the slate today, beginning with...

Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk hosting Traktor Chelyabinsk. Vasily Demchenko and Alexander Sharychenkov are in goal. Chelyabinsk led off in the first period with an Alexander Chernikov goal, guided in by Yury Petrov. Khanty-Mansiysk tied it on an Andrei Ankudinov goal, assisted by Igor Radulov and Vitaly Shulakov. The tie went to a shootout, where Pavel Varfolomeyev scored twice for Ugra to top one tally by Traktor's Igor Mirnov for a 2-1 Ugra win. The three stars went to Varfolomeyev, Sharychenkov (27 for 28 in saves), and Demchenko (32 for 33 in saves).

The other game sees Severstal Cherepovets host Ak Bars Kazan. Emil Garipov and Jakub Kovar protect the nets. Cherepovets began in the first period with an Igor Skorokhodov goal, coming off of Igor Magogin and Vitaly Sitnikov. Kazan tied it in the second period with an Alexander Svitov power play goal, powered by Vasily Tokranov and Jiri Sekac. Ak Bars took the lead in the third period on a Mikhail Sidorov goal, fueled by Mikhail Zhukov and Sekac. Severstal tied it on a Pavel Chernov power play goal, made possible by Adam Masuhr and Dmitry Kagarlitsky. Kazan won 3-2 on an overtime penalty shot goal by Vladimir Tkachyov, after he was interfered with by Denis Yezhov. The three stars were Tkachyov, Sekac, and Sidorov.

KHL 2016/17 - Day 12

Six games on for today, beginning with...

Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg hosting Salavat Yulaev. Niklas Svedberg and Vladimir Sokhatsky. Yekaterinburg led off in the first period with an Alexander Torchenyuk power play goal, powered by Anatoly Golyshev and Artyom Gareyev. Ufa tied it on a Mikhail Vorobyov goal, guided in by Anton Lazarev and Kirill Kaprizov. Avtomobilist took the lead back with a Gareyev goal, passed from Golyshev. Salavat Yulaev retied it with a Teemu Hartikainen power play goal in the second period, with assists from Andreas Engqvist and Sami Lepisto. Yekaterinburg took the lead on a Torchenyuk goal, assisted by Nikolai Timashov and Golyshev, the latter getting a sock trick. Ufa tied it once more with an Igor Grigorenko goal, made possible by Zakhar Arzamastsev. The tie went to a shootout, where Avtomobilist prevailed on goals by Dmitry Monya and Tommi Kivisto, topping Kaprizov's lone tally. The three stars went to Torchenyuk, Golyshev, and Gareyev.

Westward to St. Petersburg, where SKA welcomes Lada Togliatti. Ilya Ezhov and Igor Shestyorkin draw the starts in goal. St. Petersburg opened in the first period with an Anton Belov goal, fueled by Evgeny Dadonov and Vadim Shipachyov. SKA added on with an Alexander Barabanov goal, guided in by Sergei Shirokov and Nikolai Prokhorkin. Togliatti got on the board with an Alexei Volgin power play goal, with a lone assist by Georgy Belousov. St. Petersburg replied in the second period with a Dadonov goal, made possible by Nikita Gusev and Maxim Chudinov. SKA extended the lead as Gusev scored in the third period, with the help of Chudinov and Dadonov. St. Petersburg finished it at 5-1 with a Barabanov goal, his second of the game, coming off of Prokhorkin and Shirokov. The three stars went to Barabanov, Dadonov, and Gusev, while Chudinov, Prokhorkin, and Shirokov get the honorable mentions.

In Moscow, Dynamo brings in Sibir Novosibirsk. Alexei Krasikov and Alexander Yeryomenko protect the nets. Moscow began in the first period with a power play goal by Artyom Podshendyalov, powered by Alexei Tsvetkov and Artyom Fyodorov. Dynamo added on with an Alexander Rybakov goal, via Mat Robinson. Moscow extended the lead as Ansel Galimov scored, thanks to Dmitry Markovin and Konstantin Gorovikov. Novosibirsk got on the board with a Konstantin Okulov goal, helped along by Oleg Gubin. Dynamo padded the lead with a Tsvetkov goal, courtesy of Podshendyalov and Fyodorov. This made it a 4-1 win, with the three stars given to Tsvetkov, Podshendyalov, and Fyodorov.

Moving along to Yaroslavl, where Lokomotiv hosts Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Andrei Kareyev is mismatched with Alexei Murygin in goal. Yaroslavl struck first in the first period with a Yegor Averin goal, assisted by Mikhail Pashnin and Andrei Loktionov. The game ended 1-0 for Lokomotiv, with the three stars awarded to Averin, Murygin (10 save shutout), and Kareyev (26 for 27 in saves).

Backtracking to Podolsk, where Vityaz welcomes Avangard Omsk. Oleg Shilin and Harri Sateri guard the cages. Omsk started in the first period with an Alexander Perezhogin goal, passed from Valentin Pyanov and Anton Burdasov. Avangard added on with a Burdasov goal in the second period, coming off of Pyanov and Ivan Fishchenko. Podolsk got on the board with an Alexei Kopeikin goal, assisted by Alexei Semenov and Mario Kempe on the power play. Omsk replied in the third period on an Ilya Mikheyev goal, with a lone helper by Denis Parshin. Vityaz pulled back on an unassisted Maxim Afinogenov power play goal. This only made it 3-2, with the three stars given to Burdasov, Pyanov, and Mikheyev.

Finally, Medvescak Zagreb brings in Spartak Moscow. Markus Svensson and Danny Taylor are in the creases. Moscow got going in the third period with a Lukas Radil power play goal, powered by Vyacheslav Leshchenko and Vadim Berdnikov. This proved enough for a 1-0 Spartak win, with the three stars awarded to Svensson (32 save shutout), Radil, and Taylor (29 for 30 in saves).

KHL 2016/17 - Day 11

There's four games on today, but the first one holds a special importance. We begin with...

Amur Khabarovsk hosting Kunlun Red Star Beijing. Andrei Makarov and Juha Metsola are in goal for this historic event. Beijing opened in the first period on a Sean Collins power play goal, powered by Tomas Marcinko and Martin Bakos. Khabarovsk tied it in the third period with a Kristian Kuusela goal, via Teemu Ramstedt on the power play. Kunlun Red Star regained the lead on a Tuukka Mantyla goal, helped along by Brett Bellemore. This stood for a 2-1 win, with the three stars going to Mantyla, Collins, and Makarov (32 for 33 in saves).

Out west, Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk welcomes Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Vasily Koshechkin and Alexander Sharychenkov are the goalies. Magnitogorsk started in the first period with a Sergei Tereshchenko goal, via Denis Kazionov and Denis Platonov. Khanty-Mansiysk tied it on a second period Pavel Varfolomeyev goal, assisted by Denis Gorbunov and Evgeny Lapenkov. Ugra took the lead with a Varfolomeyev goal in the third period, passed from Lapenkov and Gorbunov. This stood for a 2-1 win, with the three stars given to Sharychenkov (40 for 41 in saves), Varfolomeyev, and Lapenkov, while Gorbunov gets an honorable mention.

Further along, Severstal Cherepovets brings in Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. Ivan Lisutin and Jakub Kovar draw the starts in goal. Nizhnekamsk got going in the third period with a Richard Gynge goal, coming off of Dan Sexton and Igor Polygalov. Neftekhimik iced it at 2-0 with an unassisted Sexton empty net goal. The three stars were Lisutin (32 save shutout), Sexton, and Gynge.

Finally, CSKA Moscow hosts Ak Bars Kazan. Emil Garipov and Ilya Sorokin are the masked men. Moscow struck first in the first period with an Alexander Popov power play goal, powered by Denis Denisov and Bogdan Kiselevich. Kazan tied it on a Justin Azevedo goal, courtesy of Vladimir Tkachyov. Ak Bars took the lead with a Mikhail Zhukov goal in the second period, made possible by Vasily Tokranov and Azevedo. CSKA tied it again in the third period on a Kirill Petrov goal, fueled by Denisov and Popov. Moscow took the lead with a Denisov power play goal, assisted by Maxim Mamin and Igor Ozhiganov. CSKA iced it at 4-2 with an unassisted empty net goal by Ivan Telegin. The three stars went to Denisov, Popov, and Azevedo.

NWSL Standalone: Boston Breakers v. Houston Dash - 8/31/16

Just before the schedule gets crazy over the next week or so, the Breakers and Dash meet up for a single game to get all the teams level on games played. Lydia Williams and Jami Kranich protect the nets. Find the game here. Morgan Brian of Houston intercepted a Louise Schillgard pass in the second minute. Brooke Elby of the Breakers blocked a Rachel Daly shot on a pass from Kealia Ohai on the counterattack. The Dash struck first in the third minute on an Ohai goal, assisted by Carli Lloyd, giving them a 1-0 lead. Cami Privett stole the ball and cleared it for Houston after Natasha Dowie lost control for Boston in the fourth minute. Whitney Engen of Boston broke up a pass from Ohai to Lloyd in the sixth minute. Christen Westphal of the Breakers booted a ball out of bounds for a corner kick for Houston, producing a shot. Kristie Mewis started the Boston counterattack in the seventh minute, but they didn't get a shot off. Dowie took a pass for Boston and shot wide left of the Dash keeper Williams' goal. Elby broke up a Houston attack by stealing Lloyd's pass for Brian in the ninth minute. Engen served a ball to Dowie in the tenth minute, but it went too long and the Breakers saw their attack end as Williams grabbed it. Westphal and Ghoutia Karchouni of Boston weren't able to produce a cross against Becca Moros and Denise O'Sullivan of Houston in the twelfth minute. Moros blocked and Privett cleared a shot from Mewis in the thirteenth minute. In the fourteenth minute, Moros found Daly in the box, and she beat Kranich, but Elby tracked it down and poked it away for a corner kick by Andressa. Mewis cleared the service safely away. Brian's centering pass to Ohai was cleared away by Engen in the sixteenth minute after a long spell of Houston possession. Ohai found Brian on the run in the seventeenth minute, and she made her way into the box before shooting wide right. Brittany Ratcliffe had a cross in the nineteenth minute for the Breakers, blocked by Ellie Brush of the Dash. Daly put a ball into the box, which Boston keeper Kranich had little trouble grabbing in the twenty-first minute. Lloyd ripped a shot in the twenty-third minute, saved by Kranich. A cross from Poliana found Ohai in the twenty-fifth minute, and she managed a deflected shot that Kranich covered. Karchouni and Engen managed to end a Houston possession as Lloyd tried to create a shot in the twenty-sixth minute. Privett headed out a Schillgard cross in the twenty-seventh minute. Mewis, Dowie, Westphal, and Schillgard all combined for a chance in the twenty-eighth minute, but Williams caught the curling ball for the save. The Breakers produced another chance as Mewis shot wide left after taking a pass from Elby, who has switched sides with the early substitution of Kylie Strom in for Westphal. Mewis nearly blocked a Williams clearance after Privett sent the ball a bit lazily back to the Houston keeper in the thirty-second minute. In the thirty-third minute, the Dash went up 2-0 as Daly flicked a ball up to Ohai, who ran from the midfield line and curled a ball into the net for her second goal of the game. Kassey Kallman was unable to catch up defensively. The Breakers saw Dowie head a ball wide right in the thirty-fourth minute. Dowie and Angela Salem both had shots blocked. In the thirty-sixth minute, Salem tried to go through most of the Houston defense before O'Sullivan stopped her progress cleanly for Houston. Privett kept the ball away from Dowie in the thirty-ninth minute, starting a Dash counterattack. Andressa cleared a Schillgard pass to Dowie in the fortieth minute as the Breakers build a bit more possession. Daly took a pass from Poliana in the forty-second minute, then dropping back to Lloyd, whose heavy touch forced Engen to make a play, and she got a bit of a bump but kept the ball away from Ohai. Kallman blocked a Daly cross after Andressa found the Houston forward, and Daly had danced around Kranich in the forty-fourth minute to create the chance. Ohai managed a cross after a Moros pass in stoppage time, and Lloyd sent it just wide right. The game went into halftime at 2-0 for the Dash. Impressing for Houston are the LB Moros, DM Brian, LW Lloyd, ACM O'Sullivan, RW Andressa, LF Ohai, and RF Daly, while the Breakers have seen their best play from CB Engen, DM Karchouni, RW Mewis, and RF Schillgard. In the forty-sixth minute, Ohai found Daly, who poked the ball just wide left on Houston's first chance of the second half. Brush headed a Schillgard cross in the forty-seventh minute. Mewis and Ratcliffe combined for another chance, shooting on goal, but Williams saved it and Brian cleared it for the Dash. Privett blocked Ratcliffe's forty-ninth minute cross to Mewis, denying another Breakers chance. On the counterattack, Lloyd had a shot blocked by Boston's defense. Ohai set up Andressa in the fiftieth minute for a shot, which went wide right. Privett intercepted Mewis' pass for Ratcliffe in the fifty-second minute. Ohai had a shot bounce off the post in the fifty-second minute, and then Strom blocked O'Sullivan's shot, and Ohai's was blocked by Engen before the Dash earned a corner kick. Andressa's set piece curled over the throng of players and out for a goal kick by Kranich. Houston had a series of passes in the fifty-fourth minute ending with a flubbed shot from Moros on a Lloyd pass. Strom won a corner kick for the Breakers off of Brian, and Karchouni's fifty-sixth minute service went long. Lloyd's pass for O'Sullivan in the fifty-eighth minute was just a bit behind as the game calms down a bit. Engen cleared an Ohai cross in the fifty-ninth minute. Karchouni found Dowie in the sixtieth minute, but Williams was up to the task in saving Dowie's shot. Ohai and Lloyd connected again, but the shot was saved by Kranich, after another strong Houston passing sequence. In the sixty-second minute, Lloyd buried a shot from way out, after receiving the pass from Andressa. The shot went over Kranich, making it 3-0 Houston. Lloyd took another shot in the sixty-sixth minute, firing low and wide left this time. In the sixty-eighth minute, Andressa sent a shot over the bar. Ohai and Brian each had efforts deflected in the sixty-ninth minute, by Kallman and Engen. Andressa and O'Sullivan created a chance, but Daly got caught offside, so the shot and save by Kranich were negated by the whistle. Kallman stole a pass from O'Sullivan to Daly in the seventy-fourth minute, even as it seems the Dash are just kicking the ball around now without much challenge from the Breakers. Daly got beat by Kranich on a high-bouncing ball in the box. Daly's cross was a bit too fast for Houston sub Janine Beckie to get on in the seventy-seventh minute. Engen cleared a cross from Ohai to Lloyd in the seventy-eighth minute. Dowie won a corner kick for the Breakers in the eightieth minute. Mewis served this in, but Poliana blocked it out. The Breakers earned a corner kick in the eighty-third minute after Poliana let Strom get behind her. Mewis took this set piece, but it was cleared by Houston. Salem cleared a cross from Chioma Ubogagu. Stephanie Verdoia of Boston blocked a shot by Amber Brooks in the eighty-fifth minute. Mewis managed a long shot that Williams saved off her leg. Brush poked a ball away from Dowie after a forward pass from the Breakers in the eighty-sixth minute. The game slowed down in the later minutes. Elby did well in the eighty-ninth minute to block Lloyd's cross and Ubogagu's settling attempt. Dowie fired a shot wide left in the ninetieth minute. Dowie got Boston on the board with a goal in stoppage time after a pass from Kyah Simon, cutting the score to 3-1. Dowie nearly had another, but she was offside, and Williams handled it anyway. Ratcliffe nearly had one for the Breakers, but Williams was there. The game ended at 3-1, with Ohai the Outsider Sports Woman of the Match. Dowie made a good impression in the second half for the Breakers.

KHL 2016/17 - Day 10

There's six games on the schedule for today, beginning with...

Amur Khabarovsk hosting Admiral Vladivostok. Ivan Nalimov and Juha Metsola are in goal. Khabarovsk started in the first period with a Kristian Kuusela goal, fueled by Kirill Kapustin. Vladivostok tied it on a Vladimir Tkachyov power play goal, powered by Andrei Sigaryov and Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev. Amur took the lead back in the second period with a Kapustin goal, assisted by Artyom Zub and Tomas Zohorna. Khabarovsk added on with a Jan Kolar power play goal, with assists provided by Teemu Ramstedt and Maxim Kondratyev. Igor Bobkov replaced Nalimov in goal. Amur took the win 3-1, with the three stars being Kapustin, Metsola (25 for 26 in saves), and Kolar.

West to Yekaterinburg, where Avtomobilist welcomes Traktor Chelyabinsk. Vasily Demchenko and Igor Ustinsky are in the blue paint. Chelyabinsk was first to score in the first period with a Yury Petrov goal, courtesy of Alexander Chernikov. Yekaterinburg tied it on a Dmitry Megalinsky goal in the second period, helped along by Tommi Kivisto and Alexei Simakov. The game went to overtime, where Traktor won on an unassisted Kirill Koltsov goal for a 2-1 final. The three stars were Koltsov, Petrov, and Demchenko (30 for 31 in saves).

Out to Slovakia, where Slovan Bratislava brings in the Sochi Leopards. Konstantin Barulin and Barry Brust are the veteran goalies. Bratislava opened in the first period with a power play goal by Patrik Luza, powered by Tomas Zigo. Slovan added on with an Ivan Svarny power play goal, guided in by Marek Viedensky. Sochi got on the board in the third period with a Ben Maxwell power play goal, made possible by Oscar Fantenberg and Eric O'Dell. Bratislava iced it at 3-1 with a Pavol Skalicky empty net goal, set up by Patrik Lusnak and Andrej Meszaros. The three stars went to Brust (38 for 39 in saves), Svarny, and Luza.

Backtracking to Moscow, where Dynamo hosts Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Mikhail Biryukov and Alexander Lazushin are the masked men. Moscow led off in the first period with a Yakov Rylov goal, assisted by Ansel Galimov and Artyom Fyodorov. Dynamo added on with a Mat Robinson power play goal, powered by Alexei Sopin. Moscow extended the lead as Alexei Tereshchenko scored, thanks to Maxim Karpov. Dynamo padded the lead with a shorthanded Semyon Kokuyov goal, set up by Rylov. Moscow kept going in the third period with a power play goal by Sopin, coming off of Alexander Rybakov and Alexander Osipov. The game ended at 5-0, with Rylov, Sopin, and Kokuyov earning the three stars.

Further along, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl welcomes Avangard Omsk. Dominik Furch and Alexander Sudnitsin guard the cages. Omsk got going in the second period with an Alexander Kucheryavenko goal, coming off of Erik Gustafsson and Andrei Kuteikin on the power play. Yaroslavl tied it with a Staffan Kronwall goal, assisted by Brandon Kozun on the power play. Lokomotiv took the lead in the third period with a Patrik Hersley goal, via Kozun and Andrei Loktionov on the power play. Avangard tied it again with an Alexander Perezhogin goal, guided in by Gustafsson and Kuteikin. Yaroslavl won 3-2 with a Yegor Korshkov goal in overtime, going in unassisted. The three stars belonged to Kozun, Gustafsson, and Kuteikin.

Finally, Medvescak Zagreb brings in Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. Ilya Proskuryakov faces a lesser foe in Niko Hovinen in goal. Nizhny Novgorod began in the first period with an Evgeny Grachyov goal, going in unassisted. Torpedo added on with an Evgeny Mozer goal, helped along by Vladimir Galuzin and Alexei Potapov. Nizhny Novgorod extended the lead on a power play goal by Maxim Osipov, powered by Ivan Vishnevsky and Galuzin. Torpedo padded the lead as Sam Lofquist scored, thanks to Galuzin, who got a sock trick, and Potapov. Zagreb got on the board with a power play goal by Colby Genoway, via Derek Smith and Francis Pare. Nizhny Novgorod replied in the third period with a Dmitry Semin goal, with a lone assist by Galuzin. Torpedo struck again on a Grachyov goal, with helpers from Kirill Urakov and Osipov. The game ended 6-1, with the three stars going to Galuzin, Grachyov, and Osipov, while Potapov gets an honorable mention.

KHL 2016/17 - Day 9

Only four games for today, beginning with...

Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk hosting Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Niklas Svedberg and Vladislav Fokin protect the nets. Khanty-Mansiysk got going with a Pavel Medvedev power play goal in the second period, powered by Roman Lyuduchin. Ufa tied it on a power play goal by Zakhar Arzamastsev, courtesy of Anton Lazarov and Kirill Kaprizov. Ugra took the lead back with another Medvedev goal, assisted by Lyuduchin. Salavat Yulaev went ahead in the third period with an Igor Grigorenko goal, guided in by Andreas Engqvist and Sami Lepisto. Ufa took the lead on a Denis Kulyash goal, via Evgeny Bodrov. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars being Medvedev, Kulyash, and Lyuduchin.

Next up, Severstal Cherepovets welcomes Lada Togliatti. Ilya Ezhov and Jakub Kovar man the creases. Togliatti led off in the first period with a Georgy Belousov goal, assisted by Anton Shenfeld and Viktor Komarov. Lada added on with another Belousov goal, made possible by Shenfeld and Dmitry Sinitsyn. Togliatti extended the lead in the second period as Alexander Bumagin scored, thanks to Nikita Filatov and Mikael Johansson. Cherepovets got on the board with a Dmitry Kagarlitsky goal, with a lone assist by Evgeny Mons. Severstal tied it with a Mons goal, passed from Kagarlitsky. Cherepovets tied it with Kagarlitsky's second goal of the game, fueled by Clay Wilson and Mons. The tie went to a shootout, where two goals from Maxim Trunyov and one more from Daniil Vovchenko weren't enough for Severstal, as Lada's Filatov scored three times before Belousov ended the game with his tally for a 4-3 win. The three stars went to Belousov, Kagarlitsky, and Filatov, while Mons and Shenfeld get the honorable mentions.

Into Moscow, where CSKA brings in Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. Ville Kolppanen is mismatched with Viktor Fasth in goal. Moscow dented the scoreboard in the second period with an Artyom Blazhiyevsky goal, assisted by Igor Ozhiganov. CSKA added on with a Bud Holloway power play goal, powered by Jonas Enlund and Kirill Petrov. Moscow extended the lead as Holloway scored again, thanks to Petrov and Andrei Svetlakov on the power play. CSKA padded the lead with a Denis Denisov goal in the third period, with a lone assist by Bogdan Kiselevich. Nizhnekamsk got on the board with an Igor Polygalov goal, coming off of Andrei Sergeyev and Dmitry Makarov. This only made it 4-1, the final, with the three stars going to Holloway, Petrov, and Fasth (26 for 27 in saves).

Finally, SKA St. Petersburg hosts Ak Bars Kazan. Emil Garipov and Igor Shestyorkin draw the starts in goal. St. Petersburg began with a first period goal by Vadim Shipachyov, assisted by Evgeny Dadonov and Nikita Gusev. Kazan tied it on a Jiri Sekac power play goal, powered by Justin Azevedo and Vasily Tokranov. Ak Bars took the lead with a Tokranov goal, fueled by Anton Glinkin and Atte Ohtamaa. Kazan added on with an Andrei Popov goal, guided in by Glinkin and Ohtamaa on the power play. Ak Bars extended the lead as Vladimit Tkachyov scored a power play goal, with the help of Roman Abrosimov and Artyom Lukoyanov. Evgeny Ivannikov took over for Shestyorkin in goal. Kazan padded the lead on a Maxim Lazarev goal in the second period, with helpers from Alexander Svitov and Dmitry Obukhov. SKA got one back with a Sergei Shirokov power play goal, helped along by Pavel Datsyuk and Ilya Kovalchuk. St. Petersburg got closer with a Gusev power play goal, coming off of Maxim Chudinov and Dadonov. SKA chipped closer with a third period power play goal by Datsyuk, made possible by Shirokov and Kovalchuk. St. Petersburg tied it as Datsyuk scored with five seconds left on the clock, thanks to Vyacheslav Voynov and Kovalchuk, the latter getting a sock trick. In the shootout, Gusev was topped by Tkachyov and Lukoyanov, giving Ak Bars a thrilling 6-5 win. The three stars were awarded to Lukoyanov, Kovalchuk, and Datsyuk, while Gusev, Tokranov, Glinkin, Ohtamaa, Shirokov, Dadonov, and Tkachyov get honorable mentions.
