Montreal's Dominic Oduro scored in the fifth minute to open the game, assisted by Laurent Ciman. In the twenty-second minute, New York City's Javier Calle took a yellow card for a foul. The Impact added on in the thirty-second minute with an Ignacio Piatti goal, coming off of Andres Romero. New York City's Jefferson Mena had a yellow card for a forty-third minute foul. Montreal saw a yellow card given to Marco Donadel in first half stoppage time for a foul. New York City's Jason Hernandez took a yellow card for a foul in the fifty-third minute. New York City got on the board with a sixty-eighth minute penalty kick goal by David Villa. The Impact's Romero took a yellow card for dissent in the seventy-fifth minute. Montreal answered as Piatti scored on a penalty kick in the eighty-fourth minute. In the eighty-fifth minute, New York City pulled right back on a Thomas McNamara goal, passed from Angelino and Villa.
