2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs - Round 1 Day 11

Three games go today, beginning with...

The Nashville Predators hosting the Dallas Stars. Ben Bishop and Pekka Rinne guard the cages. Nashville opened in the first period with a Rocco Grimaldi goal, his third of the postseason, coming off of Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis. Dallas tied it on a Jason Dickinson goal, via Roope Hintz and Roman Polak. The Stars took the lead in the second period with an Alexander Radulov goal, his third of the playoffs, guided in by Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. Dallas added on with another Radulov goal, his second of the game and fourth of the postseason, assisted by Benn. The Predators got one back with a Ryan Johansen goal, courtesy of Filip Forsberg and Josi. The Stars replied with a Seguin goal, his second of the playoffs, with a lone helper by Benn, who earned a sock trick. Dallas extended the lead as Dickinson scored his second of the game, an unassisted goal. Nashville got one back with a Kyle Turris goal, made possible by Mikael Granlund. This produced the 5-3 final score for the Stars, with the three stars going to Radulov, Dickinson, and Benn, while Seguin and Josi get the honorable mentions. The Stars head home with a 3-2 series lead.

Over in St. Louis, the Blues welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Jordan Binnington are the masked men. St. Louis got going in the first period with a Jaden Schwartz goal, his second of the postseason, made possible by Brayden Schenn. The Blues added on in the second period with a Schwartz power play goal, his second of the game and third of the playoffs, powered by Tyler Bozak and Vince Dunn. St. Louis extended the lead as Schwartz finished a natural hat trick in the third period with his fourth of the postseason, thanks to Ryan O'Reilly and Alex Pietrangelo. Winnipeg got on the board with a Dustin Byfuglien goal, his second of the playoffs, via Kevin Hayes and Andrew Copp. The Jets got closer with a shorthanded Bryan Little goal, set up by Mathieu Perreault. They came up short, as the Blues held on to win 3-2, with the three stars awarded to Schwartz, Byfuglien, and O'Reilly. The Blues won the series 4-2 to earn their spot in the second round.

Back east, the Washington Capitals bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Petr Mrazek and Braden Holtby man the nets. Washington started in the first period with a Nicklas Backstrom power play goal, his fourth of the postseason, powered by John Carlson and Tom Wilson. The Capitals added on in the second period with a Backstrom goal, his second of the game and fifth of the playoffs, via Alex Ovechkin. Washington extended the lead as Brett Connolly scored, thanks to Ovechkin and Backstrom. The Capitals padded the lead in the third period on a Wilson power play goal, his second of the postseason, with assists provided by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Carlson. Washington kept going when Nic Dowd converted a penalty shot. The Capitals capped it at 6-0 with an Ovechkin power play goal, his third of the playoffs, with helpers from Kuznetsov and Backstrom. The three stars were handed to Backstrom, Ovechkin, and Holtby (30 save shutout), while Wilson, Carlson, and Kuznetov get the honorable mentions. The Capitals leave home again with a 3-2 series lead.

2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs - Round 1 Day 10

Just two games tonight, beginning with...

The Boston Bruins welcoming the Toronto Maple Leafs. Frederik Andersen and Tuukka Rask are set to start in goal. Toronto dented the scoreboard in the third period with an Auston Matthews goal, his fourth of the postseason, made possible by Jake Muzzin and Kasperi Kapanen. The Maple Leafs added on with a Kapanen goal, via Andreas Johnsson and Morgan Rielly. Boston got on the board with a David Krejci goal, his second of the playoffs, courtesy of David Pastrnak and Torey Krug. This only made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars being Kapanen, Andersen (28 for 29 in saves), and Matthews. The Maple Leafs head home again with a chance to advance as they hold a 3-2 series lead.

Out west, the Calgary Flames bring in the Colorado Avalanche. Philipp Grubauer and Mike Smith are between the pipes. Colorado kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Gabriel Landeskog goal, coming off of Tyson Barrie and Nathan MacKinnon. The Avalanche added on with a Mikko Rantanen goal, his fourth of the postseason, helped along by Cale Makar and Colin Wilson. Calgary got on the board with a T.J. Brodie goal, his second of the playoffs, via Sam Bennett. Colorado replied in the second period with a Wilson goal, assisted by Rantanen. The Avalanche extended the lead as Wilson scored again on the power play, with the help of MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie. Colorado padded the lead in the third period with a Rantanen power play goal, his second of the game and fifth of the postseason, powered by Barrie and MacKinnon, both of whom earned sock tricks. The final stayed at 5-1, with the three stars awarded to Rantanen, Wilson, and MacKinnon, while Barrie gets an honorable mention. The Avalanche advance to the second round with a 4-1 series win.

2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs - Round 1 Day 9

Three games are on tonight, beginning with...

The Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Petr Mrazek man the nets. Carolina started in the first period with a Warren Foegele goal, his third of the postseason, courtesy of Jaccob Slavin and Justin Williams. Washington tied it in the second period with an Alex Ovechkin power play goal, his second of the playoffs, powered by Dmitry Orlov and Lars Eller. The Hurricanes took the lead on a Teuvo Teravainen goal, assisted by Nino Niederreiter and Sebastian Aho. This made it 2-1, the eventual final, with the three stars being Mrazek (30 for 31 in saves), Teravainen, and Foegele. The series heads north again tied at 2.

Northwest to Winnipeg, where the Jets welcome the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Connor Hellebuyck are the masked men. Winnipeg opened in the first period with an Adam Lowry goal, via Brandon Tanev and Andrew Copp. The Jets added on with a Kevin Hayes goal, his second of the postseason, fueled by Dustin Byfuglien. St. Louis got on the board with a Ryan O'Reilly power play goal in the third period, his second of the playoffs, powered by David Perron and Brayden Schenn. The Blues tied it on a Schenn goal, passed from Oskar Sundqvist and Jay Bouwmeester. St. Louis won 3-2 with a Jaden Schwartz goal, with a lone helper by Tyler Bozak. The three stars were Schenn, Schwartz, and Binnington (29 for 31 in saves). The Blues lead the series 3-2 as they head home.

Out in California, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Vegas Golden Knights. Marc-Andre Fleury and Martin Jones are the goalies. San Jose struck first in the first period with a Tomas Hertl goal, his third of the postseason, coming off of Erik Karlsson and Gustav Nyquist. The Sharks added on in with a Logan Couture goal, his third of the playoffs, via Timo Meier and Erik Karlsson. Vegas got on the board with a Reilly Smith power play goal, powered by Colin Miller and William Karlsson. San Jose replied with a Barclay Goodrow goal, helped along by Justin Braun and Joakim Ryan. The Golden Knights got one back with a Jonathan Marchessault power play goal, his second of the postseason, with helpers from Miller and William Karlsson. The Sharks answered on a Hertl power play goal, his second of the game and fourth of the playoffs, courtesy of Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton. San Jose iced it at 5-2 with a Pavelski empty net goal, his second of the postseason, set up by Evander Kane. The three stars were Hertl, Pavelski, and Erik Karlsson, while Miller and William Karlsson earned the honorable mentions.

2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs - Round 1 Day 8

We've got only three games tonight, beginning in...

Toronto, as the Maple Leafs host the Boston Bruins. Tuukka Rask and Frederik Andersen guard the cages. Boston led off in the first period with a Charlie McAvoy power play goal, powered by Charlie Coyle and Matt Grzelcyk. The Bruins added on with a Brad Marchand goal, his second of the postseason, assisted by McAvoy and Danton Heinen. Toronto got on the board with a Zach Hyman goal, passed from Morgan Rielly and John Tavares. The Maple Leafs tied it again with an Auston Matthews goal, his second of the playoffs, coming off of Andreas Johnsson and Ron Hainsey in the second period. Boston regained the lead on a David Pastrnak goal, guided in by Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. The Bruins extended the lead as Pastrnak scored on the power play, with the help of Marchand. Boston padded the lead with an unassisted Zdeno Chara goal in the third period. Toronto chipped back on a Matthews power play goal, his second of the night and third of the postseason, with assists provided Mitchell Marner and Rielly. The Maple Leafs got closer with a Travis Dermott goal, fueled by Jake Gardiner and Connor Brown. The Bruins capped it at 6-4 with a Joakim Nordstrom empty net goal, set up by David Krejci. The three stars were Marchand, Pastrnak, and Matthews, while McAvoy and Rielly get the honorable mentions. The series returns to Boston tied at 2.

Down in Dallas, the Stars welcome the Nashville Predators. Pekka Rinne and Ben Bishop tend the twines. The Stars added on with an Alexander Radulov power play goal, his second of the postseason, assisted by Esa Lindell and Justin Dowling. Dallas extended the lead as Andrew Cogliano scored, thanks to Blake Comeau and Lindell. The Stars padded the lead on a Mats Zuccarello power play goal, his third of the playoffs, coming off of Klingberg and Jason Spezza. Juuse Saros replaced Rinne in goal. Dallas kept going in the second period on a Hintz goal, his second of the game, helped along by Klingberg, who earned a sock trick. Nashville got on the board in the third period with a Roman Josi goal, his second of the postseason, courtesy of Ryan Johansen and Ryan Ellis. This only made it 5-1, the final, with the three stars handed to Hintz, Klingberg, and Bishop (34 for 35 in saves), while Lindell gets an honorable mention. The series shifts back to Nashville tied at 2.

Finally, the Colorado Avalanche bring in the Calgary Flames. Mike Smith and Philipp Grubauer occupy the creases. Calgary got going in the second period with an Elias Lindholm power play goal, powered by Mark Giordano. The Flames added on in the third period with a Derek Ryan goal, assisted by Juuso Valimaki and Matthew Tkachuk. Colorado got on the board with a J.T. Compher goal, his second of the postseason, passed from Matt Calvert and Matt Nieto. The Avalanche tied it with a Mikko Rantanen power play goal, his second of the playoffs, via Nathan MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie. Colorado won 3-2 in overtime with another Rantanen goal, his second of the game and third of the postseason, coming off of Carl Soderberg and Gabriel Landeskog. The three stars were Rantanen, Grubauer (35 for 37 in saves), and Compher. The Avalanche lead the series 3-1, with a chance to win it back in Calgary.

MLS Midweek April 17, 2019

Just one game at midweek, as the Vancouver Whitecaps FC host Los Angeles FC. Tyler Miller and Maxime Crepeau are in goal. Vancouver's Doneil Henry took a yellow card for a 19th minute foul. The Whitecaps led off in the 27th minute with a Hwang In-Beom goal. Victor Giro of Vancouver received a yellow card for a 39th minute foul. Danilo Silva of Los Angeles took a yellow card in the 53rd minute for his foul. In the 72nd minute, Hwang of the Whitecaps picked up a yellow card for a foul. In the 80th minute, the Black and Gold's Mohamed El-Munir had a yellow card for a foul. The final held at 1-0, with Hwang being the man of the match for the lone goal.

NWSL Midweek - Courage v. Pride

The midweek game early in the season sees the North Carolina Courage hosting the Orlando Pride. Ashlyn Harris and Stephanie Labbe are the veteran keepers. North Carolina opened the scoring in the 45th minute on a Lynn Williams goal, set up by Crystal Dunn. In first half stoppage time, the Courage's Denise O'Sullivan took a yellow card for a foul. North Carolina added on with a Jessica McDonald goal in the 55th minute, coming off of Williams. In the 64th minute, McCall Zerboni of the Courage received a yellow card for a foul. North Carolina extended the lead as Dunn scored in the 70th minute. The Courage padded the lead as Dunn scored again in the 77th minute. Orlando's Marta received a yellow card for dissent in the 85th minute. North Carolina continued with a Julia Spetsmark goal in the 88th minute. The game ended 5-0, with the woman of the match being Dunn.

2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs - Round 1 Day 7

Four games on again tonight, beginning with...

The Columbus Blue Jackets hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Sergei Bobrovsky tend the twines. Columbus opened in the first period with an Alexandre Texier power play goal, powered by Seth Jones and Pierre-Luc Dubois. The Blue Jackets added on with a Dubois goal, assisted by Oliver Bjorkstrand and Adam Clendening. Tampa Bay got on the board with a Steven Stamkos goal, made possible by Nikita Kucherov and Anthony Cirelli. Columbus shot back in the second period with a Jones goal, his second of the postseason, coming off of Cam Atkinson and Matt Duchene. The Lightning replied with a Cedric Paquette goal, passed from Braydon Coburn and Jan Rutta. Tampa Bay tied it on a Brayden Point power play goal, with assists provided by Stamkos and Kucherov. The Blue Jackets regained the lead on a Bjorkstrand goal, his second of the playoffs, helped along by Scott Harrington and Dubois. Columbus extended the lead on an unassisted Artemi Panarin empty net goal, his second of the postseason. The Blue Jackets padded the lead as Texier scored his second of the game into an empty net goal, thanks to Zach Werenski and Nick Foligno. Columbus iced it at 7-3 with a Duchene empty net goal, his third of the playoffs, set up by David Savard and Harrington. The three stars were Texier, Dubois, and and Bjorkstrand, while Duchene, Jones, Harrington, Stamkos, and Kucherov get the honorable mentions. The Blue Jackets advance to the second round on a 4-0 series sweep, where either the Boston Bruins or Toronto Maple Leafs will meet them.

Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins welcome the New York Islanders. Robin Lehner and Matt Murray are the masked men. Pittsburgh started in the first period on a Jake Guentzel goal, via Sidney Crosby and Jared McCann. New York tied it on a Jordan Eberle goal, his fourth of the postseason, fueled by Mathew Barzal and Scott Mayfield. The Islanders took the lead with a Brock Nelson goal, his third of the playoffs, coming off of Josh Bailey and Tom Kuhnhackl. New York iced it at 3-1 in the third period with a Bailey empty net goal, his third of the postseason, set up by Valtteri Filppula. The three stars belonged to Lehner (32 for 33 in saves), Bailey, and Nelson. The Islanders swept the Penguins 4-0, and will wait for the Washington Capitals or Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.

Southwest to St. Louis, as the Blues bring in the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Jordan Binnington man the creases. The Jets won 2-1 in overtime with a Connor goal, his third of the postseason, coming off of Scheifele and Wheeler. The three stars were Connor, Hellebuyck (31 for 32 in saves), and Scheifele, while Wheeler gets an honorable mention. Heading back to Winnipeg, the series is tied at 2.

Finally, the Vegas Golden Knights host the San Jose Sharks. Martin Jones and Marc-Andre Fleury protect the nets. Vegas kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Max Pacioretty goal, his third of the postseason, made possible by Mark Stone. The Golden Knights added on with a Shea Theodore goal, assisted by Reilly Smith and Pacioretty. Aaron Dell relieved Jones in the second period. Vegas extended the lead in the second period on a Pacioretty power play goal, his second of the game and fourth of the playoffs, powered by Stone and Theodore. The Golden Knights padded the lead in the third period as Alex Tuch scored, thanks to Nate Schmidt and Pacioretty. Vegas capped it at 5-0 with a Jonathan Marchessault power play goal, powered by Schmidt and Smith. The three stars were Pacioretty, Theodore, and Fleury (28 save shutout), while Schmidt, Stone, and Smith get the honorable mentions. The Golden Knights leave home ahead 3-1 in the series.
