NWSL Midweek - September 11, 2019

A pair of midweek games are on today, beginning with...

The Orlando Pride welcoming the Chicago Red Stars. Alyssa Naeher and Ashlyn Harris are the American keepers. Orlando's Claire Emslie had a yellow card for delaying the game in the 24th minute. In the 39th minute, Chicago's Katie Johnson took a yellow card for a foul. In the 64th minute, the Red Stars went down to ten women when Johnson received a second yellow card for a foul. Chicago struck late with a Casey Short goal at the death, set up by Sam Kerr. The final was 1-0, with Harris named woman of the match after going six for seven in saves despite the late goal.

The other game has the Portland Thorns FC bringing in the North Carolina Courage. Stephanie Labbe and Adrianna Franch protect the nets. North Carolina led off in the 15th minute with a Debinha goal, assisted by Crystal Dunn. The Courage added on with a Lynn Williams goal in the 21st minute, via Debinha. North Carolina extended the lead as Williams scored in the 24rd minute with the help of Merritt Mathias. Portland's Meghan Klingenberg took a yellow card for a 57th minute foul, as did teammate Lindsey Horan in the 58th minute. The Courage padded the lead with a Dunn goal, guided in by Jaelene Hinkle. North Carolina continued with a Williams goal to complete her hat trick, fueled by Debinha. The Courage's Hinkle had a yellow card for a 69th minute foul. North Carolina kept going with a Kristen Hamilton goal, made possible by Debinha. The final was 6-0, with Williams selected as woman of the match.

MLS Midweek - September 11, 2019

There's a handful of midweek games this week, beginning with...

New York City FC hosting Toronto FC. Quentin Westberg and Sean Johnson play in goal. New York City led off in the 6th minute with an Alexandru Mitrita goal. The Pigeons saw yellow cards for an Alexander Ring foul in the 23rd minute and dissent by Anton Tinnerholm in the 40th minute. Toronto tied it in the 40th minute with an Alejandro Pozuelo penalty kick goal. New York City took yellow cards for dissent by the keeper Johnson in the 77th minute and a foul by Valentin Castellanos in the 84th minute. The Reds picked up yellow cards for fouls by Nicolas Benezet in the 85th minute and Chris Mavinga in stoppage time. The final was 1-1, with the man of the match being Mitrita.

Westward to Colorado, where the Rapids welcome the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bingham and Clint Irwin are the veterans in goal. Jorgen Skjelvik of Los Angeles took a yellow card for a 38th minute foul. Daniel Steres of the Galaxy had a yellow card for a 79th minute foul. Colorado got going in the 79th minute on a Cole Bassett goal, set up by Jack Price. Los Angeles retied it in the 82nd minute with a Giancarlo Gonzalez goal, passed from Cristian Pavon. The Rapids regained the lead in the 85th minute with a Nicolas Mezquida penalty kick goal. In the 89th minute, Colorado's Price saw a yellow card for time wasting. In stoppage time, the Galaxy's Pavon and the Rapids' Andre Shinyashiki each received yellow cards for fouls. The final was 2-1, and in a losing effort, Bingham's 10-for-12 save performance was worthy of man of the match honors.

Backtracking to Houston, where the Dynamo bring in Minnesota United FC. Vito Mannone and Joe Willis protect the nets. Chase Gasper of Minnesota took a yellow card for a 26th minute foul. Houston began in the 37th minute with a Mauro Manotas goal, assisted by DaMarcus Beasley. The Dynamo added on with a Christian Ramirez goal in the 44th minute, helped along by Manotas. Houston's Memo Rodriguez received a yellow card for an 82nd minute foul. The final held at 2-0, with Ramirez selected as man of the match.

Finally, Real Salt Lake hosts the San Jose Earthquakes. Daniel Vega is mismatched with Nick Rimando in goal. Judson of San Jose had a yellow card for a 28th minute foul. Salt Lake's Kyle Beckerman picked up a yellow card for a 31st minute foul. Real saw a yellow card for a Brooks Lennon foul in the 60th minute. Salt Lake dented the scoreboard in the 75th minute, coming off of Lennon. The Earthquakes took yellow cards for fouls by Florian Jungwirth and Anibal Godoy in stoppage time. NWSL 2019 - Week 20

The NWSL homestretch is approaching, with four games on this weekend. We begin with...

Utah Royals FC hosting the Portland Thorns FC on Friday. Adrianna Franch and Nicole Barnhart protect the nets. Utah began in the 36th minute with a Becky Sauerbrunn goal, via Christen Press. Portland's Emily Sonnett received a yellow card in the 61st minute for her foul. The Royals' Rachel Corsie earned a yellow card for a 65th minute foul. In the 77th minute, the Thorns went down to ten women as Sonnett received a second yellow card for a foul, while Utah's Amy Rodriguez got a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct. In the 80th minute, Lindsey Horan of Portland picked up a yellow card for a foul. The final held at 1-0, with Sauerbrunn as the woman of the match.

On Saturday, Sky Blue FC welcomes the North Carolina Courage. Stephanie Labbe and Kailen Sheridan are the keepers. North Carolina started with an early gift as Erica Skroski of Sky Blue deflected a cross into the net for an own goal. Sky Blue tied it in the 13th minute with a Carli Lloyd penalty kick goal. Chicago led off in the 7th minute with a Sam Kerr goal, assisted by Morgan Brian. Lindsay Agnew of Houston received a yellow card for a foul in the 40th minute. The Red Stars added on with a Kerr goal in the 44th minute, set up by Yuki Nagasato. Chicago extended the lead as Savannah McCaskill scored in the 65th minute, thanks to Casey Short. The Red Stars' Nagasato took a yellow card for a foul in the 90th minute. The final held at 3-0, and Kerr was awarded woman of the match honors.

MLS 2019 - Week 27

A short week of MLS action is on tap, with five games to be played. First up...

New York City FC hosts the New England Revolution. Matt Turner and Brad Stuver draw the starts in goal. New England led off in the 2nd minute with a Juan Fernando Caicedo goal, assisted by Andrew Farrell. The Revolution went down to ten men in the 9th minute after Antonio Mlinar Delamea received a straight red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity. Maximiliano Moralez of New York City picked up a yellow card for a 10th minute foul, as did teammates Sebastien Ibeagha in the 22nd minute and Keaton Parks in the 42nd minute. The Pigeons tied it in the 70th minute with a Jesus Medina goal, passed from Anton Tinnerholm and Alexander Ring. New England saw yellow cards for time wasting issued to Farrell in the 71st minute, Turner in the 74th minute, and Wilfried Zahibo in the 81st minute. Ring of New York City took a yellow card for an 88th minute foul. Juan Agudelo of the Revolution received a yellow card for an 89th minute foul. In stoppage time, Carles Gil of New England had a yellow card for dissent. The Pigeons took the lead with a Medina penalty kick goal in stoppage time. The final held at 2-1, with Medina named man of the match.

Later, FC Cincinnati welcomes Toronto FC. Quentin Westberg and Przemyslaw Tyton are in goal. Toronto began in the 10th minute with a Patrick Mullins goal, via Marco Delgado. The Reds added on in the 21st minute with a Nick DeLeon goal. Michael Bradley of Toronto had a yellow card for a 23rd minute foul. Orlando City had yellow cards for fouls by Higuita and Nani in first half stoppage time. Latif Blessing of the Black and Gold took a yellow card for a dive in the 59th minute. Oriol Rosell of the Lions earned a yellow card for a 60th minute foul. Los Angeles retied it in the 78th minute on a Diego Rossi goal, passed from Adama Diomande. Westward to Colorado, as the Rapids bring in the Seattle Sounders FC. Stefan Frei and Clint Irwin are the veterans in goal. The Rapids led off in the 14th minute with a Jonathan Lewis goal. Kemar Lawrence of New York took a yellow card for a 42nd minute foul. Rece Buckmaster of the Red Bulls had a yellow card for his 80h minute foul. In the 81st minute, Colorado's Nicolas Mezquida received a yellow card for a foul. The Rapids added on in the 87th minute with a Lewis goal, helped along by Diego Rubio. Colorado's Rubio picked up a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final was 2-0, with Lewis as the man of the match.

Into Ohio, where the Columbus Crew SC welcome the Chicago Fire. Kenneth Kronholm and Eloy Room are the less experienced goalies. Columbus began in the 27th minute with a Pedro Santos goal, assisted by Luis Argudo. We've got just a cross-Canada game this week, as the Montreal Impact host the Vancouver Whitecaps. Maxime Crepeau and Evan Bush are in goal. Vancouver started in the 17th minute with a Yordy Reyna goal, via Michaell Chirinos and Tosaint Ricketts. Montreal tied it on an own goal by the Whitecaps' Doneil Henry in the 35th minute. The Impact took the lead with a Maximiliano Urruti goal in the 37th minute, made possible by Bacary Sagna. Montreal's Urruti had a yellow card for persistent infringement in the 51st minute. The final was 2-1, with Urruti as the man of the match.

NYCFC tied it in the 43rd minute on a Moralez penalty kick goal. Kemar Lawrence of NYRB picked up a yellow card for a foul in first half stoppage time. NYCFC gained the lead on a Heber goal in the 53rd minute, coming off of Anton Tinnerholm and Moralez. Marc Rzatkowski of NYRB received a yellow card for an 85th minute foul. In second half stoppage time, Ronald Matarrita of NYCFC earned a yellow card for a foul and then a straight red card for violent conduct. The final remained at 2-1, with Heber as the man of the match.

Way out west, the Rocky Mountain Derby sees Real Salt Lake welcome the Colorado Rapids. Tim Howard and Nick Rimando are the American keepers. Brooks Lennon of Salt Lake received a yellow card for an 8th minute foul. Colorado saw yellow cards for fouls by Diego Rubio in the 48th minute and Keegan Rosenberry in the 73rd minute. Real's Kyle Beckerman picked up a yellow card for a 74th minute foul. The Rapids had yellow cards for a Kellyn Acosta foul in the 80th minute and dissent by Lalas Abubakar in the 87th minute. Colorado went down to ten men when Kei Kamara saw a straight red card for a foul in the 89th minute. Salt Lake saved it for late, going ahead on a Joao Plata penalty kick goal in stoppage time. Real added on with a Jefferson Savarino goal three minutes later, set up by Albert Rusnak. The final was 2-0, with the man of the match being Rimando for his five-save clean sheet.

Saturday ends with the San Jose Earthquakes bringing in the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Maxime Crepeau and Daniel Vega man the nets. Vancouver struck first in the 6th minute with a Jakob Nerwinski goal, assisted by Theo Bair. San Jose tied it in the 7th minute on a Judson goal, via Chris Wondolowski and Cristian Espinoza. The Earthquakes' Florian Jungwirth had a yellow card for dissent in the 31st minute. San Jose took the lead in the 34th minute on a Wondolowski goal, fueled by Jungwirth and Magnus Eriksson. The Earthquakes' Marcos Lopez saw a yellow card for persistent infringement in the 72nd minute. San Jose added on with an Andres Rios goal in the 73rd minute, guided in by Eriksson. The final was 3-1, with Wondolowski picked as man of the match.

On Sunday, FC Cincinnati hosts the Columbus Crew SC. Eloy Room and Przemyslaw Tyton draw the starts in goal. Columbus was first to score in the 22nd minute with a Gyasi Zardes, helped along by Luis Diaz and Pedro Santos. Cincinnati saw a yellow card for a 23rd minute Andrew Gutman foul. Connor Maloney of the Crew had a yellow card for time wasting in the 31st minute, while the Orange and Blue's Maikel van der Werff was booked for a foul. Columbus added on in the 33rd minute with another Zardes goal, via Harrison Afful. In the 43rd minute, the Crew's Afful saw a yellow card for time wasting. Columbus extended the lead in first half stoppage time as Diaz scored, thanks to Santos. Mathieu Deplagne of Cincinnati picked up a yellow card for a 57th minute foul. The Crew's Artur got a yellow card for a 62nd minute foul. The Orange and Blue got on the board in the 89th minute with a Kekuta Manneh goal, passed from Emmanuel Ledesma. In second half stoppage time, yellow cards were issued to Columbus' Jonathan Mensah and Cincinnati's Victor Ulloa and Ledesma, all for fouls. The final was 3-1, with the man of the match being Zardes.

To Texas, where FC Dallas welcomes the Houston Dynamo. Joe Willis and Jesse Gonzalez are between the sticks. Houston saw yellow cards for an Alberth Elis dive in the 15th minute and a Jose Bizama foul in the 23rd minute. Dallas drew first blood on a 24th minute Reto Ziegler penalty kick goal. Dominique Badji of the Toros took a yellow card for a 28th minute foul. Dallas added on with a Jesus Ferreira goal, set up by Zdenek Ondrasek in the 29th minute. Ferreira of the Toros picked up a yellow card for a 33rd minute foul. Dallas extended the lead as Ondrasek scored in the 56th minute, with the help of Ryan Hollingshead and Michael Barrios. The Toros padded the lead as Ondrasek scored again in the 64th minute, thanks to Badji. The Dynamo got on the board with an 80th minute Memo Rodriguez goal, helped along by Mauro Manotas and Elis. Dallas finished it at 5-1 with a Barrios goal in stoppage time. The man of the match honors went to Ondrasek.

Finally, El Trafico is on with Los Angeles FC bringing in the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bingham and Tyler Miller guard the woodwork. The Galaxy kicked off the scoring in the 2nd minute with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal, assisted by Cristian Pavon. LAFC tied it in the 12th minute on a Latif Blessing goal. The Galaxy retook the lead with an Ibrahimovic goal in the 15th minute, set up by Favio Alvarez. The Galaxy added on with a Pavon goal in the 16th minute, made possible by Alvarez. Jorgen Skjelvik of the Galaxy earned a yellow card for a 28th minute foul. LAFC got one back in first half stoppage time on another Blessing goal. Giancarlo Gonzalez of the Galaxy received a yellow card for a 51st minute foul. LAFC tied it as Carlos Vela scored, with the help of Mark-Anthony Kaye. The Galaxy's Alvarez took a yellow card for an 81st minute foul, and teammate Servando Carrasco was booked for a foul in the 84th minute while Ibrahimovic also earned a yellow card for dissent. The final remained at 3-3, with the man of the match being Blessing.
