Instead of splitting the posts this week, we're putting them all together. With eight games early, two games late, and the traditional night game, the second post would be really small, and probably not the most convenient source. Therefore, we begin the day's games in...
Buffalo, as the Bills host the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee led off with a first quarter Chris Johnson 16 yard touchdown run, and Rob Bironas kicked in the extra point. Buffalo tied the game as Ryan Fitzpatrick passed 3 yards to Fred Jackson for a touchdown, and Rian Lindell's PAT was the equalizer. The Titans took the lead as Johnson ran in an 86 yard touchdown, and Bironas was good with the extra point. The Bills tied it when Brad Smith returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, and Lindell made the extra point to again tie the game. Tennessee took the lead again in the second quarter as Jamie Harper ran 1 yard for a touchdown, and Bironas made another extra point. Buffalo got some back as Lindell kicked in a 31 yard field goal. The Bills got closer as Lindell made a 42 yard field goal. The Titans extended the lead in the third quarter as Harper ran in another 1 yard touchdown, and Bironas made another extra point. Buffalo shot back as Fitzpatrick passed 15 yards to Donald Jones, and Lindell was once again true with the extra point. The Bills took the lead with Fitzpatrick passing 27 yards to Stevie Johnson, and Lindell handled the extra point. Tennessee took the lead back in the fourth quarter as Matt Hasselbeck connected with Nate Washington for a 15 yard touchdown, and Bironas kicked the go-ahead extra point. This stood for a 35-34 win, and both teams are now 3-4.
West to Indianapolis, as the Colts host the Cleveland Browns. Indianapolis began in the first quarter with a 3 yard touchdown run by Andrew Luck, and Adam Vinatieri was there with the extra point. Cleveland pulled back as Brandon Weeden passed 14 yards to Greg Little in the second quarter for a touchdown, but they botched the extra point and the two-point attempt failed. The Colts added on as Luck ran 5 yards for another touchdown, and Vinatieri made the extra point again. The Browns got closer in the third quarter as Weeden found Josh Gordon for a 33 yard touchdown pass, and Phil Dawson was able to make the extra point this time around. Indianapolis padded the lead with a 38 yard field goal by Vinatieri. This made it 17-13, a final, with Indianapolis going to 3-3 and the Browns falling to 1-6.
Down in Houston, the Texans welcome the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore was first to score in the first quarter as Justin Tucker knocked in a 51 yard field goal. Houston answered as Connor Barwin sacked Joe Flacco in the end zone for a safety. The Texans took the lead with Matt Schaub finding Kevin Walter for a 25 yard touchdown pass, and Shayne Graham was true with the extra point. Houston extended the lead in the second quarter as Johnathan Joseph picked off Flacco and took the ball 52 yards for a touchdown, with Graham icing the play with the extra point. The Texans kept going as Schaub passed 1 yard to Owen Daniels for a touchdown, and Graham again made the PAT. Houston added on with a 33 yard Graham field goal. The Texans got more as Graham was good with a 29 yard field goal. The Ravens finally did something right as Flacco passed 15 yards to Tandon Doss in the third quarter for a touchdown, with Tucker supplying the extra point. Houston shot back on a 1 yard Arian Foster touchdown rush, and Graham kicked in the extra point. Baltimore got some more in the fourth quarter as Tucker was true with a 54 yard field goal. The Texans extended the lead as Foster ran in a 2 yard touchdown, and Graham supplied the extra point. This ended the drubbing at 43-13, with the Texans going to 6-1 and the Ravens falling to 5-2.
Back north a bit, the St. Louis Rams bring in the Green Bay Packers. St. Louis struck first in the first quarter with a Greg Zuerlein field goal of 50 yards. Green Bay took the lead as Aaron Rodgers passed 3 yards to Jordy Nelson for a touchdown, and Mason Crosby booted in the extra point. The Packers padded the lead as Crosby made a 47 yard field goal. The Rams replied in the second quarter as Zuerlein made a 43 yard field goal. Green Bay extended the lead in the third quarter as Rodgers passed 5 yards to Randall Cobb for a touchdown, and Crosby kicked in the PAT. The Packers added on in the fourth quarter as Crosby booted a 23 yard field goal. St. Louis got some back as Steven Jackson ran 6 yards for a touchdown, and Zuerlein was there with the extra point. Green Bay struck again on another Rodgers touchdown pass to Cobb, this time for 36 yards, and Crosby iced the drive with an extra point. The Packers secured victory with a Crosby 48 yard field goal. The Rams got some back as Sam Bradford passed 3 yards to Austin Pettis for a touchdown, and Zuerlein was good with the extra point, producing the 30-20 final. Green Bay goes to 4-3 and the Rams drop to 3-4.
Southeast to Florida, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers welcome the New Orleans Saints. Tampa Bay started with a first quarter Josh Freeman 13 yard touchdown pass to Tiquan Underwood, and Connor Barth was there with the extra point. The Buccaneers added on as Doug Martin ripped off a 36 yard touchdown run, and Barth again made the extra point. New Orleans got on the board as Drew Brees passed 17 yards to Marques Colston for a touchdown, and Garrett Hartley kicked in the extra point. Tampa Bay padded the lead as Freeman passed 17 yards to Vincent Jackson in the second quarter for a touchdown, and Barth was true with the PAT. The Saints shot back as Brees passed 9 yards to Darren Sproles for a touchdown, and Hartley kicked in the extra point. New Orleans tied it as Brees passed 48 yards to Joseph Morgan for a touchdown, and Hartley had the equalizer with the extra point. The Saints took the lead when Brees passed 20 yards to David Thomas for a touchdown, and Hartley was good with the extra point. New Orleans extended the lead in the fourth quarter with a 5 yard Pierre Thomas touchdown run, and Hartley was true with the extra point. The Buccaneers pulled back with Freeman passing 3 yards for a touchdown to Dallas Clark, and Barth again handled the extra point. They got no closer, losing 35-28, and both teams are now 2-4.
Up the coast a tad, the Carolina Panthers bring in the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas began in the second quarter as Dan Bailey made a 19 yard field goal. Carolina took the lead as Cam Newton passed 5 yards to Brandon LaFell for a touchdown, and Justin Medlock booted the extra point. The Cowboys took the lead in the third quarter as Tony Romo passed 26 yards to Miles Austin for a touchdown, and Bailey was there with the extra point. Dallas extended the lead as Bailey made a 49 yard field goal. The Panthers took the lead when Mike Tolbert ran 2 yards for a touchdown, and Medlock kicked in the go-ahead PAT in the fourth quarter. The Cowboys edged ahead on a Bailey field goal of 28 yards. Dallas extended the lead on a Bailey field goal of 38 yards. This made it 19-14, the final, with Dallas going to 3-3 and the Panthers dropping to 1-5.
Northwest to Minnesota, with the Vikings hosting the Arizona Cardinals. Minnesota opened in the first quarter as Adrian Peterson ran 13 yards for a touchdown, and Blair Walsh handled the extra point. Arizona tied it in the second quarter with a LaRod Stevens-Howling 3 yard touchdown run, and Jay Feely made the PAT. The Vikings took the lead back as Christian Ponder fond Percy Harvin for a 3 yard touchdown connection, and Walsh knocked in the extra point. Minnesota extended the lead as Harrison Smith picked off John Skelton in the third quarter and returned the ball 31 yards for a touchdown, allowing Walsh another extra point. The Cardinals pulled closer as Skelton found Andre Roberts for 6 yards and a touchdown, and Feely was good with the extra point. It wasn't enough to avoid a 21-14 loss, with Minnesota moving to 5-2 and Arizona dropping to 4-3.
Ending the first wave of games, the New York Giants bring in the Washington Redskins. Washington got going with a first quarter Kai Forbath 20 yard field goal. New York took the lead in the second quarter as Andre Brown ran 1 yard for a touchdown, and Lawrence Tynes booted the extra point. The Redskins took the lead back on a 26 yard touchdown pass from Robert Griffin III to Santana Moss, and Forbath was true with the extra point. The Giants retied the game as Tynes made a 27 yard field goal. Washington took the lead back when Forbath knocked in a 43 yard field goal. New York evened the score again as Tynes made a 39 yard field goal. The Giants took the lead in the fourth quarter on an Ahmad Bradshaw 1 yard touchdown rush, and Tynes was good with the PAT. The Redskins pulled closer on a Forbath field goal from 45 yards out. Washington took the lead as Griffin found Moss again, this time for a 30 yard touchdown connection, and Forbath made the extra point. New York shot back as Eli Manning passed 77 yards to Victor Cruz for a touchdown, and Tynes tacked on the extra point. They made it hold for a thrilling 27-23 win, improving the Giants to 5-2 while the Redskins fell to 3-4.
Out west, the Oakland Raiders host the Jacksonville Jaguars. Oakland led off with a first quarter Sebastian Janikowski 21 yard field goal. Jacksonville pulled ahead as Blaine Gabbert passed 42 yards to Cecil Shorts, and Josh Scobee was there with the extra point. The Jaguars padded the lead in the second quarter as Rashad Jennings ran 5 yards for a touchdown, and Scobee tacked on the extra point. Jacksonville struck again as Scobee made a 50 yard field goal. The Raiders replied with a Janikowski 33 yard field goal. The Jaguars added on in the third quarter as Scobee made a 40 yard field goal. Oakland pulled closer on an 8 yard touchdown pass from Carson Palmer to Denarius Moore, and Janikowski handled the PAT. Jacksonville extended their lead in the fourth quarter as Scobee made a 45 yard field goal. The Raiders replied as Janikowski made a 31 yard field goal. Oakland tied it as Palmer ran 1 yard for a touchdown, and Janikowski tacked on the equalizing extra point. The Raiders won 26-23 in overtime as Janikowski made a 40 yard field goal to end the game. Oakland is now 2-4 and Jacksonville falls to 1-5.
Back east, the New England Patriots play host to the New York Jets. New York began with a first quarter 1 yard touchdown run by Shonn Greene, and Nick Folk made the extra point. New England tied the game as Devin McCourty returned the ensuing kickoff 104 yards for a touchdown, and Stephen Gostkowski's extra point was the equalizer. The Patriots padded the lead as Tom Brady passed 17 yards to Rob Gronkowski for a touchdown, and Gostkowski again made the extra point. New England added on in the second quarter as Mark Sanchez fumbled the ball out of the end zone for a safety. The Jets shot back as Folk made a 54 yard field goal. New York pulled closer in the third quarter on a Folk 21 yard field goal. The Patriots padded the lead as Brady found Gronkowski for a 2 yard touchdown, and Gostkowski made another PAT. The Jets chipped away in the fourth quarter as Sanchez found Dustin Keller for a 7 yard touchdown pass, and Folk booted in the extra point. New York tied it with a 43 yard field goal from Folk. The Jets got the lead as Folk made another 43 yard field goal. New England tied it as Gostkowski kicked a 43 yard field goal of his own. The Patriots regained the lead in the fifth quarter as Gostkowski was true from 48 yards out. This held for a 29-26 win, moving New England to 4-3 while the Jets fell to 3-4.
Finally, the night game comes from Cincinnati, as the Bengals host the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh started with a first quarter Shaun Suisham 42 yard field goal. Cincinnati took the lead as Cedric Peerman ran 5 yards for a touchdown, and Mike Nugent handled the extra point. The Bengals added on in the second quarter as Andy Dalton found A.J. Green for 8 yards and a touchdown, and Nugent tacked on another extra point. The Steelers got some back as Suisham made a 47 yard field goal. Pittsburgh pulled closer with Ben Roethlisberger passing 9 yards to Heath Miller, and they tied the game as those two connected again for the two-point conversion. Cincinnati retook the lead in the third quarter as Nugent was true with a 48 yard field goal. The Steelers retied it on a Suisham 42 yard field goal. Pittsburgh took the lead in the fourth quarter as Chris Rainey ran 11 yards for a touchdown, and Suisham again booted the PAT. This was it for the scoring, with the final being 24-17, moving Pittsburgh to 3-3 while the Bengals drop to 3-4.
