2015-16 NHL Season - Day 87

Eight games on tonight, with a fairly early end to the night. We begin in...

Boston, as the Bruins host the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Tuukka Rask tend the twines. Washington struck first in the first period on an Andre Burakovsky goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Evgeny Kuznetsov and Aaron Ness. The Capitals added on with a Kuznetsov power play goal in the second period, his thirteenth of the year, powered by Nicklas Backstrom and Matt Niskanen. Boston got on the board with a Loui Eriksson goal, his fourteenth of the season, guided in by Brett Connolly and Patrice Bergeron. Washington replied in the third period with a Marcus Johansson goal, his tenth of the year, fueled by Dmitry Orlov and Nate Schmidt. The Bruins answered with a Bergeron power play goal, his fifteenth of the campaign, with assists provided by Ryan Spooner and Torey Krug. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars going to Kuznetsov, Bergeron, and Johansson.

Over in Buffalo, the Sabres welcome the Florida Panthers. Roberto Luongo and Linus Ullmark are in the creases. Florida opened in the first period on a Jaromir Jagr goal, his fourteenth of the season, guided in by Jonathan Huberdeau. Buffalo tied it on a Ryan O'Reilly power play goal in the second period, his sixteenth of the year, powered by Jack Eichel and Jamie McGinn. The Panthers took the lead back on a Derek MacKenzie goal, his fourth of the campaign, helped along by Corban Knight and Alex Petrovic. Florida added on in the third period with a Knight goal, his second of the season, via Quinton Howden and MacKenzie. The Panthers extended the lead as Huberdeau scored his fifth of the year, thanks to Aleksander Barkov. Florida iced it at 5-1 with a Brandon Pirri empty net goal, his ninth of the campaign, set up by Willie Mitchell. The three stars went to MacKenzie, Knight, and Huberdeau, while Luongo (31 for 32 in saves) gets an honorable mention.

In New York City, the Rangers host the Dallas Stars. Antti Niemi and Henrik Lundqvist protect the nets. New York was first to score in the first period on a Derek Stepan goal, his seventh of the season, courtesy of Rick Nash and Jayson Megna. Dallas tied it with a John Klingberg goal, his sixth of the year, coming off of Jason Spezza and Alex Goligoski. The Rangers retook the lead with an unassisted Keith Yandle goal, his second of the season. New York added on in the second period with a Derick Brassard goal, his fourteenth of the year, made possible by J.T. Miller. The Rangers extended the lead as Stepan scored his second of the game and eighth of the season in the third period, a shorthanded goal set up by Nash and Dan Girardi. New York padded the lead with a Viktor Stalberg goal, his fifth of the year, passed from Oscar Lindberg and Kevin Klein. The Stars got one back on an Antoine Roussel goal, his seventh of the campaign, helped along by Patrick Sharp and Spezza. The Rangers made it 6-2 with a Megna goal, assisted by Nash, who got a sock trick, and Klein. The three stars went to Stepan, Nash, and Megna, while Klein and Spezza get the honorable mentions.

West to Pittsburgh, where the Penguins bring in the Chicago Blackhawks. Corey Crawford and Marc-Andre Fleury guard the cages. Chicago got going in the second period on an Artemi Panarin goal, his twelfth of the season, courtesy of Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith. The Blackhawks added on with a Jonathan Toews goal, his fourteenth of the year, assisted by Brent Seabrook and Andrew Shaw. Pittsburgh got on the board in the third period with a Sidney Crosby goal, his twelfth of the season, passed from David Perron and Kris Letang. The Penguins tied it with a Letang goal, his fourth of the year, made possible by Crosby. Chicago won 3-2 with a Panarin goal in overtime, his second of the game and thirteenth of the campaign, fueled by Kane and Seabrook. The three stars belonged to Panarin, Crosby, and Letang, while Kane and Seabrook get the honorable mentions.

Into Ohio, with the Columbus Blue Jackets hosting the Minnesota Wild. Devan Dubnyk faces a lesser foe in Anton Forsberg. Minnesota led off in the first period with a Zach Parise goal, his twelfth of the season, via Mikael Granlund and Ryan Suter. Columbus tied it in the second period on a Cam Atkinson goal, his twelfth of the year, guided in by Scott Hartnell and Cody Goloubef. The Wild retook the lead on a Parise goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the campaign, helped along by Granlund and Suter. Minnesota added on as Parise finished his hat trick on an empty net goal in the third period, his fourteenth of the season going in unassisted. The Blue Jackets pulled back on a Nick Foligno goal, his sixth of the year, assisted by Boone Jenner and Alexander Wennberg. The Wild iced it with an unassisted empty net goal by Granlund, his fourth of the campaign. The three stars were awarded to Parise, Granlund, and Suter.

Back east, the Philadelphia Flyers welcome the Montreal Canadiens. Ben Scrivens and Michal Neuvirth are the backups in goal. Philadelphia started in the first period on a Brayden Schenn goal, his ninth of the season, courtesy of Sean Couturier. Montreal tied it on an Alex Galchenyuk goal, his tenth of the year, passed from Mark Barberio and Daniel Carr. The Flyers took the lead back with a Shayne Gostisbehere goal in the second period, his seventh of the season, fueled by R.J. Umberger and Scott Laughton. Philadelphia added on with a Wayne Simmonds power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Gostisbehere and Schenn. The Canadiens pulled back on a Brendan Gallagher goal, his eleventh of the season, via Alexei Emelin and Max Pacioretty. The Flyers replied in the third period with a Couturier goal, his seventh of the year, helped along by Nick Schultz and Schenn. Montreal got one back with a Carr goal, his fifth of the campaign, with helpers provided by David Desharnais and Lars Eller. The three stars were handed to Schenn, Couturier, and Gostisbehere, while Carr gets an honorable mention.

South to Nashville, where the Predators host the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Pekka Rinne are between the pipes. Winnipeg began in the first period on a Drew Stafford power play goal, his thirteenth of the season, with a lone assist from Tyler Myers. The Jets added on with a second period Stafford power play goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the year, powered by Toby Enstrom and Mark Scheifele. Winnipeg extended the lead as Ben Chiarot scored an unassisted goal in the third period. Nashville got on the board with a Colin Wilson goal, his fourth of the season, passed from Roman Josi. The Jets iced it at 4-1 with an Alex Burmistrov empty net goal, his fourth of the year, set up by Andrew Ladd and Myers. The three stars were given to Stafford, Hellebuyck (43 for 44 in saves), and Myers.

Finally, in Alberta, the Calgary Flames bring in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ben Bishop and Karri Ramo are set to start in goal. Calgary drew first blood in the first period on a Matt Stajan goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by Mark Giordano and T.J. Brodie. The Flames added on with a David Jones goal in the second period, his eighth of the year, with a lone assist from Giordano. Tampa Bay got on the board with a Steven Stamkos goal, his seventeenth of the campaign, helped along by Anton Stralman and Valtteri Filppula. Calgary iced it at 3-1 with a Lance Bouma empty net goal, set up by Dennis Wideman and Kris Russell. The three stars went to Ramo (30 for 31 in saves), Giordano, and Jones.
