NWSL 2018 Week 16 Midweek

Three games on at midweek this time, beginning with...

The North Carolina Courage hosting the Washington Spirit. Aubrey Bledsoe and Katelyn Rowland protect the nets. North Carolina began in the twelfth minute with a Debinha goal, after a deflected pass from Lynn Williams. The Courage's Denise O'Sullivan took a yellow card for a fifty-third minute foul. North Carolina added on in the sixtieth minute as Jessica McDonald's deflected shot arced into the goal, with an assist credited to Crystal Dunn. The final held at 2-0, with Debinha as the woman of the match. Also good for the Courage were McDonald, Dunn, Williams, and Abby Erceg, while the Spirit's best were Caprice Dydasco, Taylor Smith, Tori Huster, and Rebecca Quinn.

Down in Houston, the Dash welcome the Orlando Pride. Ashlyn Harris and Jane Campbell are the American keepers. The game went into a weather delay in the thirteenth minute. After the restart, Houston led off in the seventeenth minute with a Rachel Daly goal, set up by Kealia Ohai. The Dash added on in the fiftieth minute with another Daly goal on a rebound. Orlando got on the board with a Sydney Leroux goal in the fifty-fifth minute, coming off of Shelina Zadorsky. The Pride saw yellow cards for dissent by Chioma Ubogagu in the eightieth minute and Zadorsky's foul in the eighty-seventh minute. Haley Hanson of Houston took a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The Dash replied with a Thembi Kgatlana goal four minutes later, helped along by Allysha Chapman. Orlando went down to ten women a minute after that as Marta's violent conduct earned a straight red card. The game ended 3-1, with the woman of the match being Daly. Also strong for the Dash were Clare Polkinghorne, Ohai, and Sofia Huerta, while the Pride's best were Carson Pickett, Zadorsky, Camila, Dani Weatherholt, and Leroux.

Finally, the Seattle Reign FC bring in Utah Royals FC. Abby Smith and Lydia Williams are the keepers. Utah took a yellow card for a Sam Johnson foul in the twelfth minute, as did teammate Rachel Corsie in first half stoppage time for her foul. Seattle's Allie Long received a yellow card for a foul a minute after Corsie's. Seattle got going in the fifty-fourth minute with a Megan Rapinoe goal, assisted by Steph Catley on the corner kick. In the sixty-sixth minute, Gunnhildur Jonsdottir took a yellow card for her foul. The Reign held on to win 1-0, with Rapinoe named woman of the match. Also strong for the Reign were Theresa Nielsen, Jess Fishlock, and Allie Long, while the Royals saw good games from Desiree Scott, Jonsdottir, and Amy Rodriguez.
