NHL 2018/19 - Day 47

We've got five games on this Sunday as the league begins to adjust its schedule for Thanksgiving. First up is a matinee in...

Brooklyn, where the New York Islanders host the Dallas Stars. Ben Bishop and Thomas Greiss make the starts in goal. New York led off in the first period with an Anthony Beauvillier goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Leo Komarov and Ryan Pulock. Dallas tied it on an Esa Lindell goal in the second period, his second of the year, via Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. The Stars took the lead with a Roope Hintz goal, courtesy of Jason Spezza. Dallas added on with another Lindell goal, his second of the game and third of the season, assisted by Julius Honka and Jason Dickinson. Robin Lehner replaced Greiss in goal. The Stars extended the lead as Seguin scored his sixth of the year, thanks to Alexander Radulov and Benn. The Islanders got one back in the third period with a Scott Mayfield goal, his third of the season, with a lone assist by Mathew Barzal. Dallas replied with a Radulov goal, his seventh of the year, passed from Gavin Bayreuther and Spezza. The Stars padded the lead on another Radulov goal, his second of the game and eighth of the season, with helpers from Benn and Seguin, the former earning a sock trick. The final remained at 6-2, with the three stars awarded to Radulov, Lindell, and Seguin, while Benn and Spezza get the honorable mentions.

Down in Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes welcome the New Jersey Devils. Cory Schneider and Curtis McElhinney are set to start in goal. Carolina began in the first period with a Justin Williams goal, his second of the season, via Jordan Staal and Brock McGinn. The Hurricanes added on with a Micheal Ferland goal, his tenth of the year, assisted by Teuvo Teravainen and Dougie Hamilton. New Jersey got on the board with a Pavel Zacha goal, his second of the season, guided in by Jesper Bratt. This was it for the scoring, with the Hurricanes winning 2-1. The three stars were McElhinney (33 for 34 in saves), Ferland, and Williams.

West to Chicago, as the Blackhawks host the Minnesota Wild. Alex Stalock is mismatched with Corey Crawford in goal. Chicago opened in the first period with a Jonathan Toews power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by Patrick Kane and Henri Jokiharju. The Blackhawks added on with a Brandon Saad goal, his sixth of the year, coming off of Alexandre Fortin and Gustav Forsling. Minnesota got on the board with a Zach Parise power play goal in the second period, his ninth of the season, with assists provided by Mikko Koivu and Matt Dumba. Chicago iced it at 3-1 in the third period with a Dominik Kahun empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by Toews and Kane. The three stars were Toews, Crawford (39 for 40 in saves), and Kane.

In Canada, the Edmonton Oilers bring in the Vegas Golden Knights. Marc-Andre Fleury and Cam Talbot are the masked men. Edmonton started in the first period with a Connor McDavid goal, his twelfth of the season, assisted by Matt Benning and Drake Caggiula. Vegas tied it on a William Karlsson goal, his fifth of the year, passed from Shea Theodore and Reilly Smith. The Oilers took the lead back with an Alex Chiasson power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Golden Knights tied it again in the second period with a shorthanded and unassisted Cody Eakin goal, his eighth of the year. Vegas took the lead with a Max Pacioretty goal, his third of the season, helped along by Alex Tuch and Theodore. The Golden Knights added on with a Jonathan Marchessault power play goal, his ninth of the year, with assists from Colin Miller and Smith. Vegas extended the lead as Marchessault scored again in the third period, his second of the game and tenth of the season, with the help of Miller and Karlsson. The Golden Knights padded the lead as Smith scored his fourth of the year, thanks to Marchessault and Miller, the latter earning a sock trick. Edmonton got one back with a Draisaitl goal, his twelfth of the season, via Caggiula. The final remained at 6-3, with the three stars awarded to Marchessault, Miller, and Smith, while Theodore, Karlsson, Draisaitl, and Caggiula took the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Anaheim Ducks host the Colorado Avalanche. Philipp Grubauer and Ryan Miller are the backups in goal. Anaheim struck first in the first period with a Brandon Montour goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Pontus Aberg and Nick Ritchie. Colorado tied it with a Sven Andrighetto goal in the second period, his second of the year, coming off of Patrik Nemeth and Vladislav Kamenev. The Ducks took the lead back with a Ryan Getzlaf power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Adam Henrique and Montour. Anaheim added on with an Ondrej Kase goal, made possible by Montour and Getzlaf. The Avalanche got one back with a Nathan MacKinnon power play goal, his thirteenth of the year, with assists provided by Tyson Barrie and Mikko Rantanen. Colorado tied it in the third period with another MacKinnon goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the season, helped along by Rantanen and Erik Johnson. The Avalanche won 4-3 in overtime with a Rantanen power play goal, his eighth of the year, guided in by MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog. The three stars were MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Montour, while Getzlaf takes an honorable mention.
