NHL 2018/19 - Day 132

Nine games for today, beginning with...

The Carolina Hurricanes hosting the New York Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist and Curtis McElhinney are set to start in goal. Carolina got going in the second period with a Jordan Martinook goal, his thirteenth of the season, made possible by Dougie Hamilton and Andrei Svechnikov. New York tied it with a Connor Brickley goal, via Filip Chytil and Tony DeAngelo. The Rangers took the lead in the third period with a Vladislav Namestnikov goal, his seventh of the year, guided in by Jimmy Vesey and Pavel Buchnevich. This stood for a 2-1 win, with the three stars given to Lundqvist (43 for 44 in saves), Namestnikov, and Brickley.

Up in New Jersey, the Devils welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins. Matt Murray and Keith Kinkaid are the alliterative goalies. New Jersey opened in the first period with a Jesper Bratt goal, his seventh of the season, passed from Marcus Johansson and Mirco Mueller. Pittsburgh tied it on a Zach Aston-Reese goal, his seventh of the year, courtesy of Sidney Crosby and Brian Dumoulin. The Devils took the lead back with a Johansson goal, his twelfth of the season, via Mueller and Bratt. The Penguins tied it again with a Nick Bjugstad power play goal, his seventh of the year, powered by Marcus Pettersson and Dominik Simon. Pittsburgh pulled ahead with a Bryan Rust goal in the second period, his seventeenth of the season, assisted by Jake Guentzel. The Penguins added on with a Chad Ruhwedel goal, coming off of Evgeni Malkin. New Jersey got one back in the third period with a Miles Wood goal, his seventh of the year, fueled by Damon Severson and Travis Zajac. This only made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars given to Johansson, Bratt, and Mueller.

Over in Philadelphia, the Flyers bring in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Louis Domingue and Carter Hart are the goalies. Tampa Bay started in the first period with a Mikhail Sergachev goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Steven Stamkos and Ondrej Palat. The Lightning added on with an Alex Killorn goal, his thirteenth of the year, assisted by Anthony Cirelli and Adam Erne. Tampa Bay extended the lead as J.T. Miller scored his tenth of the season, going in unassisted. Philadelphia got on the board in the third period with an Oskar Lindblom goal, his eleventh of the year, passed from Sean Couturier and Michael Raffl. The Lightning replied on a Yanni Gourde power play goal, his seventeenth of the season, powered by Miller and Ryan McDonagh. The Flyers got one back on a Travis Konecny goal, his eighteenth of the year, made possible by Couturier and Travis Sanheim. Tampa Bay iced it at 5-2 with a McDonagh empty net goal, his sixth of the campaign, going in unassisted. The three stars were Miller, Couturier, and McDonagh.

To the south, the Florida Panthers host the Buffalo Sabres. Linus Ullmark and James Reimer are in the creases. Buffalo dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Jack Eichel power play goal, his nineteenth of the season, powered by Sam Reinhart and Jeff Skinner. Florida tied it on a Jonathan Huberdeau goal, his fourteenth of the year, guided in by Frank Vatrano and Aleksander Barkov. The Panthers took the lead with a Jayce Hawryluk goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Vincent Trocheck and Evgenii Dadonov. Florida added on with a Barkov goal, his twenty-third of the year, passed from Huberdeau and Vatrano. The Panthers extended the lead as Huberdeau scored his second of the game and fifteenth of the season, thanks to Barkov. The Sabres got one back on a Vladimir Sobotka goal, his fourth of the year, via Zemgus Girgensons and Johan Larsson. This produced the 4-2 final, with the three stars awarded to Huberdeau, Barkov, and Vatrano.

In Canada, the Montreal Canadiens welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky and Carey Price tend the twines. Montreal led off in the first period with a Max Domi goal, his twentieth of the season, via Mike Reilly. The Canadiens added on with a Paul Byron goal, his eleventh of the year, guided in by Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Shea Weber. Columbus got on the board in the second period with a Josh Anderson goal, his twenty-first of the season, helped along by Boone Jenner. The Blue Jackets tied it in the third period with a Nick Foligno goal, his fifteenth of the year, fueled by Anderson and Jenner. Montreal retook the lead on a Tomas Tatar goal, his nineteenth of the campaign, made possible by Jordie Benn and Kotkaniemi. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars given to Kotkaniemi, Anderson, and Jenner.

Back stateside, the St. Louis Blues bring in the Toronto Maple Leafs. Frederik Andersen and Jordan Binnington are the masked men. St. Louis began in the first period with a Jaden Schwartz goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Tyler Bozak and Alexander Steen. The Blues added on with a Colton Parayko power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Schwartz and Bozak. Toronto got on the board with a Zach Hyman goal in the third period, his eleventh of the season, going in unassisted. The Maple Leafs tied it on an Auston Matthews goal, his twenty-eighth of the year, via Nikita Zaitsev and Kasperi Kapanen. St. Louis won 3-2 in overtime with an unassisted Ryan O'Reilly goal, his twenty-third of the campaign. The three stars were Schwartz, Bozak, and O'Reilly.

North to Minnesota, where the Wild host the Anaheim Ducks. Ryan Miller and Devan Dubnyk man the creases. Anaheim cracked the scoresheet in the second period with a Jakob Silfverberg power play goal, his sixteenth of the season, powered by Devin Shore and Max Jones. The Ducks added on with a Corey Perry goal in the third period, his second of the year, via Ryan Getzlaf. Anaheim extended the lead as Ryan Kesler scored his fifth of the season, an unassisted goal. The Ducks iced it at 4-0 with a Hampus Lindholm empty net goal, his fifth of the year, set up by Adan Henrique. The three stars were given to Miller (31 save shutout), Silfverberg, and Perry.

Far south, the Dallas Stars welcome the Nashville Predators. Pekka Rinne and Anton Khudobin occupy the blue paint. Nashville drew first blood in the first period with a Brian Boyle goal, his fifteenth of the season, coming off of Roman Josi and Calle Jarnkrok. Dallas tied it in the second period with a Jason Spezza goal, his seventh of the year, guided in by Mattias Janmark and Jason Dickinson. The Predators retook the lead with a Rocco Grimaldi goal, his fifth of the season, helped along by Ryan Hartman and Ryan Ellis. The Stars tied it again with an Esa Lindell power play goal, his ninth of the year, powered by Spezza and John Klingberg. Dallas took the lead with a Tyler Seguin goal, his twenty-fifth of the season, courtesy of Roope Hintz and Lindell. Nashville retied it with a Filip Forsberg goal, his twenty-first of the year, with a lone helper from Ellis. The Predators pulled ahead on a Josi goal in the third period, his twelfth of the season, made possible by Kyle Turris and Ellis, the latter earning a sock trick. Nashville iced it at 5-3 with an unassisted empty net goal by Josi, his second of the game and thirteenth of the year. The three stars were Josi, Ellis, and Spezza, while Lindell gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the Edmonton Oilers bring in the Arizona Coyotes. Darcy Kuemper and Mikko Koskinen are between the pipes. Arizona kicked off the scoring in the second period with a Josh Archibald goal, his eighth of the season, via Derek Stepan and Jakob Chychrun. Edmonton tied it on an Adam Larsson goal in the third period, his third of the year, assisted by Leon Draisaitl and Zack Kassian. The Coyotes retook the lead on a Vinnie Hinostroza goal, his tenth of the season, coming off of Niklas Hjalmarsson and Mario Kempe. The Oilers tied it on a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins goal, his nineteenth of the year, guided in by Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse. The tie went to a shootout, where Hinostroza and Alex Galchenyuk tallied to beat Draisaitl and the Oilers 3-2. The three stars were Hinostroza, Draisaitl, and Archibald.
